This is an illustration I designed back in 2012 to celebrate an exciting time for London as we hosted the Olympics and had the Queens Diamond Jubilee. I felt like posting this up because this style of illustration has become popular and is something I may get back into at some point.

Hey, First I just wanted to say thanks to the people who have bought my designs recently it really inspires me to keep going with this!

Also I've re-edited a few of my designs to make them more vibrant and colourful. First is my Teemo from the game League of Legends. I removed the sepia tone to make the colour pop more.

Second is my Link from The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker. It was originally on a dark background and with quite dull colours, I have also re-worked some of the shading.

Teemo!

As it was recently Halloween I was inspired to draw the devil himself: Teemo! This little guy is from the game League of Legends. He's one of the most hated characters in the game, mostly because he can turn invisible, shoot you with poison darts and leaves invisible deadly mushrooms all over the map, but I still think he's cute!

Here's Link from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker game. I played this game so much as a kid and it was one of the best gaming experiences I've had. I loved the art style, sound design and entire mood of the game and as they've re-released it in HD I thought I'd draw it.

I also made a quick pattern out of some Zelda Rupees, the currency in the game. They were taken out of my original illustration but I'd though I'd use them for something.

HI, I LOVE TEA AND KITTENS - 2011

Back in 2011 I was inspired by some of the curious Twitter bios of the illustrators I follow. I noticed that a lot of them had an obsession with two things, tea and kittens! I thought it was a little odd to boldly declare your love of tea in what is essentially the 'first impression' of your online presence. These are the six illustrations that became the series "Hi, I love Tea & Kittens" (All made with permission from the illustrators used).

Caving in to the .gif Craze

The other day I made this animated version of my 'Half Full' illustration.

I studied animation for a short time while at college and everything seemed so complicated and long-winded, but this process was simple and quick and I even enjoyed doing it. I made the .gif using Photoshop's animation feature and will probably make some more gif's if any of my drawings look like they would benefit from some movement.

Merry Christmas everyone!

This is the design for the Christmas cards that I am giving to my family this year. I wanted to avoid clichés, Jesus and Polar bears and focus on something more personal to us as a family. We are very traditional at Christmas and always get together at my Mum's and have a big roast dinner. Every year she lays out some crisps and nuts to eat while dinner cooks and every year my Nan will tell off my Granddad for eating them and say "You won't want your dinner!". It's one of the fond memories I have of getting together and sharing food with my family that I felt was appropriate for the cards. It always makes me laugh and it's the funny small things that I am thankful for this year, not just the presents.

Enjoy the holidays with your families and make sure you appreciate the people around you. (You'll miss them more than your new iPad!)

I was going to post something Christmasy but then thought that it's still a little early for that, so instead here's a simple little illustration that I made today.

I spend a lot of time thinking about the artistic decisions that I've made/not made and feeling either positive or negative about them. It can feel like a bit of a journey sometimes but in reality nothing has changed apart from my perception of the same work. Your perception can change but unless you fill that glass or drink it there's no real change happening. Just something to think about...

There's always outrage when the turn out at votes is poor. I think we all understand how important the vote is, and how lucky we are to have that opportunity when so many don't. However, it is easy to see why some people don't vote, when none of the options seem very appealing and none of the politicians seem to be on our side...

But then the press isn't going to report when a politician says something good will happen and it does because that's just boring.

In recent years the tech boom and rise of tablets and e-readers has created a battle ground between old and new forms of media. I find it interesting to see how e-reader devices are finding their place in the publishing industry, as they are convenient but people just really love paper books. Personally I don't think one media will replace the other, just that a compromise will eventually happen with some publications being more suited to paper and others to pixels.

Awesome Colour Information Tool

The use of colour in illustration can be an important communication tool but understanding it can be really difficult. It takes time to figure out which colours contrast and compliment each other and what shades to use. When I am illustrating I find that selecting the right colours can take up more time than creating the actual drawing.

Luckily, I discovered a website that can help me (and maybe you) out. The website is called ColorHexa.com and calls itself a 'color encylopedia'. It has all kinds of information that is extra helpful for digital artists and designers. Not only does it list hexadecimal colours but also their CYMK and RGB equivalents. Below is an example of the kind of information available:

One of my favourite sections of the website however is the "List of colors by name". Some colours have really interesting names and it can be a useful tool for selection. One colour that I liked was simply called "Awesome". I was struggling to find an image or logo that would fit as my twitter identity and so I chose to just have a square icon of the colour awesome and now I feel kind of attached to it.

So be sure to check out the website if you need some more information about a colour or just want a little bit of inspiration. If you have any other similar websites, techniques or tools please share them with me!

The Dark Side Of Tech?

The growth of social media and the technology industry in the last few years has meant that more and more things are becoming digital. These days the only time I'm not looking at a screen is when I'm asleep. We get more and more social on a global level and less and less social at a basic street level. I have to admit I'm guilty of this too. I am glued to my phone. But by staying in constant contact with my friends and 'followers' through a device, am I missing out on some interesting new encounters with the people around me?

Saying that, I'm probably not about to start smashing up my phone and talking to old ladies on the bus...

Hey guys, Happy Halloween!

I never really went trick or treating as a child, it's not the sort of thing my parents are in to. I did however go to a few Halloween parties as a teenager and cracked my head open once. At the time we said it was spooky that I would get injured on Halloween, but I'm pretty sure it was simply the alcohol.

Anyway, whether you're going out tonight begging for candy dressed as zombie Hitler, staying in bed and watching Paranormal activity 2 or closing the shutters and pretending you're not home...I hope you have a spooktacular night.
