Hi, We Are Friends!

2012-07-23T11:17:00.001-07:00

Official confirmation from mau5trap has landed! Via the soundcloud page:

With pioneering electronic music artist deadmau5 at the helm the mau5trap label have never been ones to do things by the book, and the new ‘We Are Friends’ compilation showcases their fresh and forward thinking attitude in abundance. Priding themselves on being committed to uncovering and supporting fresh talent, the compilation gathers together nine tracks that have been collected via demo submissions and participants in the revelatory mau5hax concept from earlier this year.

The compilation features a diverse collection of tracks from established artists and relative unknowns alike, spanning from Moda founding member and interstellar frequency creator Tom Staar to brand new talents like Buddygirrl and Henry Gould. The result is an exploratory nine-track album of unique music. From progressive house to gritty electro, dubstep mutations to glitch hop, this is another bold statement from a label intent on staying ahead of the pack and continuing to revolutionize dance music.
First up we have Tom Staar fresh from remixing Example setting the tone with ‘Home’ and most recently big in the record boxes of Alesso, Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso with Toms remix of 'African Drop' by Rob Marmot & My Digital Enemy; carving the skeleton of the track out of shimmering looped synths, deep atmospheres and a driving rhythm section, a drawn out euphoric build is whipped into a bouncy synth-led banger. James Njie returns to the label for the first time since last year’s ‘Meowingtons Hax’ compilation showcasing a newly refined take on his progressive sound on ‘Room Modes’ while Tom Neville contributes ‘Vision Flash’, a more minimalistic but no less muscular track.

Graduating from engineering duties at mau5hax, Heat Maxwell unveils his own production ‘Uprising’ showcasing a rugged, warping electro sound that is guaranteed to make a mark while Born Freak’s ‘Cocktail Bar’, a track that was originally sent over as a demo, proved too good to let go, joining the action here with its expansive synths and retro-tinged vibe.

Standout Mau5hax winners Henry Gould, River Accorsi and Buddygirrl all feature too, bringing their individual styles to the table. The trio were all brought to the label’s attention when they took part in mau5trap’s mau5hax session in Miami earlier this year after submitting winning tracks. The 12 hour production session saw them get to work in the studio aided by a host of the mau5trap roster, with everything being streamed live through deadmau5’s website.

Glitch hop group Kairo Kingdom completes the package with grimy production ‘The Sound Of Now’.

This compilation epitomizes what mau5trap is all about, showing their ability to step into the unknown and still do what they do best – breaking all the rules.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE BELOW

So it seems we might possibly have a little bit of a tidbit of new mau5trap news. James Njie, who was previously featured on the Meowingtons Hax Tour Trax compilation, posted this to his official Facebook page earlier today. As the status says, July 30th is the release window of this (compilation?). This is also supported by a status the official mau5trap page posted on July 16th.

Since James has let this slip, perhaps mau5trap themselves are close to releasing news of this too as well. Only time will tell. The mau5trap twitter has also been tweeting the tag '#wearefriends'. Any new info that pops up, I will post here and update this.

UPDATE: A BBC Radio 1 rip is now available on youtube!

And a release date: Sept. 2nd! Who's pumped?

ORIGINAL POST BELOW:

It looks like this might be closer to release than previously thought. If anyone has proof of this and if it's legitimate or not, please submit it to us.

This was apparently tweeted by the mau5trap team and then promptly deleted with the caption "Soon...". If anyone screencapped said tweet, again, please submit it to us and we'll include it in this post!

In actual release news, the Veldt EP is now out on iTunes and Beatport!

Listening Is Back

2012-04-19T14:54:00.003-07:00

Sorry for the absence guys n gals, life has kept the three of us busy and we've missed tons of mau5 news of which you most likely already know. Over the next few days I plan to make that up to you by posting whatever has been missed. :) As you can see with this video posted not even an hour ago, we finally get a cool view of the mau5 nest (that's not even the proper term is it?). Anyone recognize those mice at 0:59? For those wondering, no, neither of the tracks played are the exclusive Pete Tong is teasing us with. The first track is Blast Wave (Original Mix) by Al Bizzare and the second is Brass Rail (Original Mix) by Micky Slim. You'll be sure to hear the new track when it shows up on the net tomorrow, and we'll have it here. To hold you over, please enjoy an unofficial Strobe remix that's been on my repeat for awhile now.

Want to produce like the Mau5trap team?

2012-03-11T16:13:00.000-07:00

Interested in learning how to produce like the big boys and girls signed to Mau5trap? Just want to jam out with some of your favorite artists? Check this out, from their website;

On March 23rd, Mau5hax will be an 8-hour music production session featuring mau5trap artists collaborating together with fans to create some new tracks in a Miami studio in real-time, and it will all be streaming live online for the world to experience. Get an exclusive inside look at the creative process and artistry behind one of the most influential labels in the industry.

Who it might be aimed at;

If you're an aspiring DJ/producer interested in participating in this music production session with mau5trap and Beatport, we'd like to hear from you. mau5trap and Beatport will select 5 aspiring DJ/producers to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity.

There are a little bit of exceptions..

Only apply if you have some production experience (we want evidence!) and can be in Miami on the day. Sorry, we can’t pay to get you there but we will put you up the day before and on the day of the hack. We’ll feed you too. The tracks created will be given away the following day, so you need to be cool with that too (see Terms & Conditions). We’re looking for 5 people to make the most of this opportunity, please fill in the form and send us a link to your productions. The people selected will be emailed a week before the event (14th March) and announced on http://www.facebook.com/mau5trap. Please don’t blow your cash to come to this, we’ll give priority to people who live close enough on this occasion. The cut-off for entry is 23:59 GMT 13th March.

So you have a couple of days left to sign up, as sign up ends at midnight on Tuesday. But this is a great little program for aspiring producers and DJ's to come along, learn something, share some ideas, and just have a good time and meet some mau5trap talent's. Joel said he's looking forward to this, and if it goes well, he hopes to bring it on the road a bit, make it a semi-annual kind of thing. :)

Good luck, and have fun,
DJP

Cool beat, no?

Two elusive songs, put together. Anyone else feel glimmers of hope?

Not sure what this skit is but included it anyway.

EDIT: Something he put up since the post. Melody at the beginning is from Close Encounters Of The Third Kind? Forgive me if I'm wrong.

Also of note, my DVD of Deadmau5' toronto show of Meowington's Hax arrived the other day...well worth it if you missed the huge american tour. You can find the PAL version here, or the NTSC version here.

LED Mau5head 2.0 and the grammys

2012-02-13T09:01:00.000-08:00

This short performance with the Foo Fighters was broadcast during the Grammys. Also of interest is that LED mau5head 2.0 is coming soon, and was previewed at the Grammys. (?)
It was not this accessory that is causing the most hype, however, as he proceeded to wear a t-shirt with Skrillex's phone number on before the awards.

Oh you, trollmau5.

Deadmau5 didn't win any awards this year, but fair play to Skrillex who won 3 awards, Best Dance/Electronica Album, Best Dance Recording and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.

Return of the Mpire

2012-01-31T08:31:00.000-08:00

Moguai's new album 'Mpire' is now out!

Not many producers get handpicked by deadmau5 to conjure a full length artist album for his prestigious mau5trap imprint; so for German specialist Moguai to get the nod twice in as many years is one hefty testament to the sheer quality, imagination and originality of his musical output.

Now, and less than two years since the critically lauded release of his first ever mau5trap album We Ar Lyve back in April 2010, Moguai returns to the fray, and on the form of his life, for the agonizingly-awaited worldwide release of his latest long-player project – Mpire.

Available to buy from 30th January 2012, the album itself is an exquisite piece of craftsmanship; artistically inventive, masterfully honed, perfectly coordinated and not an ounce short of what we’ve come to expect from this outstanding producer, working so consistently at the top of his game. With the juggernaut first single (also titled Mpire) released earlier this month and already flying high at #1 in the overall Beatport chart, Moguai now looks set to further silence competitors and wow critics with this stunning new set of fresh, forward-thinking soundscapes, skilfully and thematically tied by an innovative touch that only he can attain.

Diligently incorporating elements of house, techno and electro, this work – two careful years in the making – has Moguai’s signature sound stamped all over it. Whether it’s the luxuriously complex, driving harmonies of Dynamo and Heimaterde, the progressive artistry of Lyme and Tommy Trash collaboration In ‘N’ Out, or the relentlessly pounding tech-bedlam that is N.E.O, this stunning album delivers more than it’s fair share of peak-timers to satisfy the cravings of dancefloor junkies worldwide.

But it’s the spellbinding euphoria of tracks such as Invisible, Styrum and Out of Nowhere that elevate this album to that next level of innovative flair – one that so many artists struggle to achieve. Gentle, hypnotizing and evoking emotions of tranquillity throughout with their mesmerising synth progressions, these welcome moments of calm within an otherwise club-focused collection captivate the soul and carry the listener on a delicate journey through the ethereal. Just one listen and we begin to understand why the Mau5 himself insisted so strongly upon another Moguai LP instalment.

With some perfectly fitting collaborations and three exclusive offerings to round off proceedings (one each for Beatport, iTunes and Spotify) this album will no doubt be a mainstay in the collections of electronic music lovers young and old for years to come. In true testament to the infamous German composers that came before him, Moguai has created a masterpiece of a symphony that is as diverse as it is ingenious.

- Mpire Minimix (Soundcloud)

You can buy the album at 3 different digital outlets (neat huh?), and each place you buy it from has it's own bonus track.

Meanwhile on the mau5trap page, a teasing status has been put up to make us guess, but we all already know which EP that is, right? ;)

EDIT: It seems mau5trap had another trick up it's sleeve!

Late February will be when we can buy this release, but tomorrow we can get a sneak peak. I'll be sure to edit that in when the time comes.

Feed Me More...

2012-01-24T18:55:00.000-08:00

So there is new Feed Me on the way. A release date, or whether or not this is being released on mau5trap is yet to be confirmed, but news of new Feed Me is good news! Along with the announcement tweet of new material, there is also a new North American tour underway.

EDIT:

UFK's video of the Feed Me & Gemini collab confirms a release date of Feb 6th, and a mau5trap release.

All is quiet on the mau5trap front, except that Moguai's new track Mpire is charting at #1 on Beatport! Nothing unusual for a mau5trap release I might add.

Supposedely soon we will see news of a Maths (EP?) release and a Professional Griefers EP release, as always, when those are out, we'll let you know. :)

Cthulhu Dreams

Cthulhu2 by fuckmylife

You never want to wake up Cthulhu, but at least he's dreaming now, getting that REM sleep, you know? Contrary to what the soundcloud description says, it's not actually released (yet, just check out the catalogue number), but we will have a link up here to when it is released. In the mean time, the soundcloud has a download option! I also think this isn't the full version (I could be completely wrong), but my reasoning is that the full version of Cthulhu Sleeps is exactly 10 minutes long, while this is 4:13. Like I said, this could be the full version, but I'm hoping there is more in store for us.

Noisia - Stigma (mau5trap)

2011-12-25T10:08:00.000-08:00

Well it was definitely nice last christmas when we got Feed Me's Big Adventure released on beatport, but this year mau5trap are spoiling us again. A remix of Noisia's Stigma by Neosignal has been released on Beatport.

The genre says Dubstep, but you can replace that with "Awesome" or whatever adjective of your choice, I'm not sure dubstep defines it.

Merry Christmas,

2011/2012 and the mau5

2011-12-24T11:00:00.000-08:00

We apologize for the lack of updates. It is most surprising that this post comes on Christmas eve, but indeed a new post is in order (I hear you, shoutbox)...And what better time than the end of 2011 to both recap on 2011 and look forward to 2012.

As a recent blog post (which has been staring me in the face for too long, sorry!) showed, January will bring the Mau5's residence at the XS, Las Vegas. Expect an onslaught of unhooked shows around that time, and I envy any one of you who lives in Las Vegas.

March will bring the first time in quite a few years that the Mau5 will not be playing at UMF (Ultra Music Festival). He has been outspoken about the lack of progress with regards to the festival, and that the results are always the same.

In June, the Mau5 will be visiting Ireland for at least two shows, one in Dublin and the other Belfast. This christmas, wish upon a star for a full UK tour.

And we also await a new album...the long talked about "studio" album which features new content. Deadmau5 has recently had work done on his new house, and this will presumably allow him to produce music more easily.

If 2012 seems a little void, you wouldn't be wrong - but I predict to see a really polished tour or album out of the Mau5 at the very least this year.

Because 2011 didn't disappoint. The Meowingtons Hax tour didn't fail to impress, and it synergised a fantastic light show with great live music. We even saw live shows taken to quite literal new heights.

Professional Griefers, nee Deer Bus has exploded in popularity, and it is not even released. It appeared at Minecon and we had a sneak peak at some vocals, but it appears that the true face behind the final vocals has arrived - can you identify this man?

Personally, 2011 brought LED Festival, my first Deadmau5 concert. A great atmosphere and a great show.

The shows themselves would be lights without music - HR 8938 Cephei was a fantastic song that had strong overtones of the old progressive deadmau5 style while boasting new definition. Where (Are) My Keys was also a great showstarter that showed new style from the mau5.

In terms of Mau5trap, 2011 saw new releases from a horde of artists, new and old. DNB mainstays Noisia had 2 surprise releases with Tommy's Theme and Could This Be. Newcomers Raised By Wolves showed their talent in The Call. After gaining popularity with SOFI Needs a Ladder, SOFI has had her own releases, Locked and Loaded parts 1 and 2.

Locked and Loaded Part 2 is available on Beatport now and includes the song Bring Out the Devil, originally produced with Skrillex.

I'm just going to give my regular shoutout to Mike Duz, who I was pleased to hear got some recognition from mau5trap with his free release of his remix of Oxygen by Moguai. He's been working heartily on remixes recently, also creating a mockup remix of Professional Griefers. Props to him.

As for Mau5itup, we appreciate our readers, and promise moar updates this 2012. We also hope to improve the site and make it better. Please be sure to like us on Facebook (almost 1000 likes...) and follow us on Twitter.

Happy Holidays and a Happy new year,

So who wants to see more older stuff?! I know I do. Especially Creep. :)

Now that I have time, here's a more detailed and updated post.

Click the image above to reach the pre-ordering page for the NEW deadmau5 live dvd. It will feature footage filmed tomorrow at the toronto show in the Rogers Center itself. 30 minutes of footage will be stream on live.deadmau5.com. The catch is, you need to subscribe to the stream on the website, so enter your name and e-mail and you'll be able to watch it when it goes live.

Ever wanted a sneak peek into the way the visuals for the live shows work?

Last, but not least, there has a been a release of mau5 remixes floating around, put out by not Ultra, nor mau5trap, but by the London-based label 'Cubrik'. It releases on Nov 21st, and it's legitimacy still seems up in the air, so if you have any info, be sure to let us know. The full album boasts 21 remixes in total and is available to pre-order from HMV and eBay? Weird, right?

Moguai - Oxygen EP / Top 100 DJs

2011-10-26T11:43:00.000-07:00

Just dropping by to confirm that the EP for Moguai's Oxygen will be coming out on the 7th November on Mau5trap. This includes the remix by Mike Duz, who I've blogged about at least twice, including on a remix of Maths he was thinking about.

Here's the remix of Oxygen for reference.

Moguai - Oxygen (Mike Duz Remix) [mau5trap] (out 7 November 2011) by Mike Duz

The EP will also include remixes by Moguai himself and Jacob Plant.

If you haven't looked already, the Mau5 took 4th in 2011's Top 100 DJ poll, remaining unmoved since last year. Ex Mau5trap artist Skrillex took 19th, a high spot for a new producer. Claiming his position as 4th, Deadmau5 lamented the definition the magazine gives to the term "DJ", complaining that he is by no means a disk jockey. We can agree with that. "Top 100 EDM Producers poll" doesn't quite have the same ring to it, though...

Check out the standings in the Top 100 DJs poll here.

Lest I reiterate Saikotic's last post, just a reminder that part 1 of SOFI's new EP is up on Beatport, along with a slew of other releases such as Noisia's "Tommy's Theme".
