Keme Hawkins, Ph.D. and Robyn Donaldson, J.D. are international yogis, teachers, content creators, lightworkers, travelers, artists, sisters in spirit and best friends of nearly 20 years!

Mawu Angels is the art production arm of Robyn’s Healthy Living. Mawu Angels produces and houses our digital education and art projects. We're working to produce digital content that anyone can access from anywhere in the world.

Keme Hawkins, Ph.D.
Keme’s interest in the arts began in her childhood with short fiction stories and continued throughout her college and graduate career. As an instructor, she has taught composition, literature, and African-American musical history at the university level for 7 years.

Keme’s academic studies in film, art, music and performance were based in the rich mysticism of African derived religious traditions. This research would take her through a Portuguese immersion course in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and form the cornerstone of her Master’s Thesis and Doctoral Dissertation.

After graduating from Emory University with her Doctorate in English,
Keme decided to leave academia, but stay in Atlanta due to its booming film scene. She wanted to pursue her passion for the arts through filmmaking. Two feature screenplays later, one that has already wrapped production and awaiting its premiere, Keme is now creating a web series!

Robyn Donaldson, J.D.

Robyn’s love for travel and culture has taken her around the world.

It was through her explorations and studies of Yoga, Ayurveda and Meditation that she’s visited many sacred sites in Bali, India, Hong Kong, Sicily and Ibiza, Spain (and captured some amazing footage and stories too!).

Whether it was studying yoga in a local village in Ubud, Bali; teaching English to students of all ages in Jakarta, Indonesia; witnessing a 9 day Navratri celebration in Kerala, India; or visiting the home of Mata Amritanandamayi (or Amma, the hugging saint) at Amritapuri in southern India; Robyn is in LOVE with experiencing spirituality through travel, art and culture!

After Robyn graduated law school, she entered international business and later was a staffer on President Barack Obama's historical presidential campaign in 2008. She continued to work for the president's Organizing for America.

In between that time, Robyn decided to deepen her yoga practice. She completed her first 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training in Hatha. Later, she started to study with Shiva Rea, completing her 500 hour Prana Vinyasa Teacher Training.

Consistent monthly support from our patrons allows us to do what we love. It gives us more time to create and improve upon content that we’re already creating.

We are incredibly thankful for YouTube, social media networks and website blogs. They’re all great; we’ll still keep nurturing those networks too. But, Patreon gives us the ability to deliver content exactly to the audience who wants it the most---our patrons.

WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO?

OUR CREATION COSTS:
The following items are costs associated with keeping everything functioning and thriving--from The Yoga House in Atlanta to the digital space with Robyn’s Healthy Living and Mawu Angels.

We earn our living/or pay for these costs through running these various businesses while also doing other contract and freelancing work.

These endeavors can be VERY EXPENSIVE, especially over time, but we’re still SO driven and passionate about sharing this content and we know teaching is one of our callings!

We’ve found “that thing” which speaks to our heart. “Would we do it for free?” YES...and we HAVE done MANY things for free, sometimes it’s necessary to keep our businesses and creations afloat, however, with patrons help we can do even more!

With EXTRA support from engaged patrons (particularly those people who are looking for more diverse images, experiences and points of view online), we could deliver even MORE, higher quality content and events directly to you and even more people around the world!

Robyn’s Healthy Living, our sister site focuses on practical mind-body-spirit solutions through yoga classes, Ayurveda lifestyle and food education, self-care techniques, customized online programs and consultations.

OUR STORY

Mawu Angels was conceived in 2010. It came into being as a result of deepening our spiritual practice. We've known each other for 17 years and have built a friendship and sisterhood of the traveling pants.

Both of our spiritual practices deepened when we both experienced several major life changing events: deaths within our families; being caretakers to ailing relatives with major health issues, doing 'the work' around issues related to generational family traumas, the tragic loss of young friends; feeling the push to change career paths, and move completely out of our comfort zones, literally and figuratively!

It was through these life experiences that our spiritual understanding, spiritual growth and spiritual seeking intensified, ultimately leading us to study and meet some very influential spiritual teachers and embrace a life path and daily practice of mind-body-spirit balance and awareness.

OUR INTENTION

The intention for this work is to empower Kindred Spirits to release any blocks, any resistance, any obstacles in the way of their heart’s offerings...their heart’s song or life purpose.

We hear the phrase “mind, body, spirit” connection all the time and how important it is to stay healthy and balanced. But, how do we apply this to our daily lifestyle and choices?

We’re motivated to share these beautiful and sacred healing techniques and practices because they have worked in our lives and the lives of students and clients at The Yoga House (as pictured) and around the world.

These arts support anyone who is interested in cultivating a deeper mind, body and spirit connection (or as Ayurveda calls it the “tripod of life”) in a practical, sustainable way. We want to share with you, what we’ve learned (and continue to learn) on our travels and spiritual journeys.

Having studied with teachers like Doreen Virtue, Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma), Shiva Rea, Maria Garre, Dr. Wayne Dyer and Louise Hay has inspired us to nurture and cultivate not only our physical bodies, but our mental and spiritual bodies. OUR PASSIONS

TRAVEL
Our study and practice of the ancient and sacred healing arts of yoga and Ayurveda has taken us around the world to places like California, India, Bali, Hong Kong, South Africa and Brazil.

And we are always sure to capture phenomenal moments, people and experiences along the way in the hopes that we may transmit the healing inspiration of curiosity, exploration and adventure.

Art is an excellent tool to help us open our hearts learn a new perspective and journey into another emotional and mental landscape. We use photography and film to share our experiences and create experiences for viewers to be uplifted and transported into higher consciousness.

We have many more spiritual pilgrimages planned for the future, where we hope to capture and share more transformational experiences and healing modalities.

YOGA
Most people are familiar with yoga, but Ayurveda is just beginning to become more popular in the mainstream. Ayurveda, the sister science to yoga, is a lifestyle practice of keeping the mind, body and soul balanced through an awareness of nature’s elements (earth, water, fire, air and space). All of these elements reside within us, as well as within nature.

AYURVEDA
Ayurveda teaches us how to balance these elements internally as they change externally with the seasons’ of nature. Our focus as it pertains to Ayurveda is to educate and share information on Ayurvedic foods, lifestyle changes, yoga poses, breath work, and more!

When the “Tripod of Life” is strengthened and we’re in connection with all three of these energetic bodies, we start to naturally flow and live in balance, harmony and unison with nature.

Keme’s interest in the arts began in her childhood with short fiction stories and continued throughout her college and graduate career. As an instructor, she has taught composition, literature, and African-American musical history at the university level for 7 years. She was even chosen to represent Emory University in Paris, France at the Toni Morrison Society biennial conference in 2011.

Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, India

Keme continues to hone her storytelling craft through courses from Screenwriting U and Shonda Rhimes’ Masterclass program (Random fact: Robyn and Shonda Rhimes graduated from the same high school!! Small world!). In addition to taking on production assistant internships, she also works as a ghost writer for screenplay and book projects.

Keme, who is also a certified Angel Therapy Practitioner through Doreen Virtue, has a deep interest in mystical technologies of divination and manifestation as healing work. This has also led her to study the divine magic of Hermetics, the soul’s journey in Theosophy, and the path to enlightenment in Buddhist Philosophy and Hindu yogic traditions. And she has a strong affinity for sacred sites around the world that are aligned with the cosmos.

Understanding the impact black musical traditions (undergirded in political and spiritual practices) has driven her to travel around the world, looking for more spiritual connections between various cultures.

A little more about Robyn...
Robyn’s love for travel and culture has taken her around the world. When Robyn was in law school, she studied International Human Rights and International Business, which gave her opportunities to spend the summer in London, Rome and Cape Town, South Africa.

During her time living in Cape Town, Robyn began to re-connect with the healing qualities of nature and art. She spent time with many local South African musicians, painters and hip-hop artists, who left a strong impression on her. They sparked her inner artist and taught her about the power of healing through art.

After her time in South Africa, Robyn became fascinated with visiting sacred sites and taking spiritual pilgrimages, seeing how the divine showed up in different cultures. She enjoyed witnessing how devotion (bhakti yoga) is expressed through rituals, holidays, ceremonies, music, culture, food and service in various parts of the world.

Raised Catholic, Robyn had a deep spiritual connection to Mother Mary. Robyn was born on the Immaculate Conception and also experienced a visitation from Mother Mary when she was a child. Robyn took one of her first spiritual pilgrimages to Lourdes, France where Mother Mary first appeared to Sister Teresa in a grotto.

Whether it was teaching English to students of all ages in Jakarta, Indonesia; studying yoga in a local village in Ubud, Bali; witnessing a 9 day Navratri celebration in Kerala, India; or visiting the home of Mata Amritanandamayi (or Amma, the hugging saint) at Amritapuri in southern India; or studying angels with Doreen and Charles Virtue in Laguna Beach, CA, Robyn is in LOVE with experiencing spirituality through travel, art and culture!
