To have ALS-“Lou Gehrigs Disease” is to know that nerve by nerve, your body will slowly shut down…taking away the ability to walk, talk and eventually breathe.

The devastation of ALS also spreads to families and friends who helplessly watch loved ones struggle against the progression of this disease.

That’s one of the reasons why the Max’s Ride is so important to patients in our community who are suffering from ALS.

*With your support patients, families and caregivers will receive services from the ALS Association at No Cost! This year Max’s Ride was able to provide sponsorship for a “Care for the Caregiver” seminar and provide funding to allow additional persons to travel to Washington D.C for National ALS Advocacy Day.
*With your support equipment will be available and loaned out to persons with ALS to make mobility and communication a little easier.
*With your support we will help patients and families as they confront the cruel realities of this “beast”.

Please consider a gift of hope by making a tax-deductible contribution of $25, $50, $100 or more today! Click on the secure PayPal Donate Now button to make an online donation or send your donation to:

As Veterans Day approaches I wanted to take a moment to THANK all of our Veterans, Active Military Personnel and your families for the dedication, service and sacrifice you’ve given to protect the freedoms of the United States of America!

I am truly honored that through the years many of our riders, sponsors, volunteers and donors have been Veterans and Active Military Personnel. All of us associated with Max’s Ride for ALS Research and Patient Services will continue to play our role in raising awareness of the Military connection in the increased number of ALS diagnosis among our Veterans.

Our fight to strike out “The Beast” of ALS is far from over but we will continue the battle in honor and in memory of those who are no longer able.

George S. Patton ~ It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.

We thank God for so many!
Take Care, Be Safe & Thank You Veterans!

I hope you are all staying cool in this CRAZY heat! With their permission, I wanted to share these two e-mails from two families that were able to attend the National ALS Advocacy Day in Washington D.C. this year, over Mother’s Day weekend. They were able to attend, due in large part because of the donations raised at the 2010 Max’s Ride IV. Please read below:

Thank you SO much for making it possible for my husband Roy and myself to attend the ALS Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C. Roy has ALS and is a veteran. Going to Washington, D.C. was a wonderful experience for both of us – hearing about the research being done, meeting so many new friends who are also suffering from this horrible disease, and meeting with legislators, many of whom were very sympathetic and will hopefully further our cause. Without your generous support, this would not have been possible. So thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and bless you in all your endeavors.

Sincerely,
Jeanne B

I want to send a huge thank you and a big hug for the biggest blessing that you gave me. That blessing was to share my story of my sister Elizabeth Ann Nelson. What an incredible experience it was to share my story with everyone. I made a portfolio that I carried with me everywhere and I took that with me. Losing her in January was very hard for my family but with your help you gave me the courage to keep her story alive and to share it with so many people. Although this trip was filled with tears my sister’s memory will continue to be in my heart and now in the heart of others and how this disease strickens so many people. I learned so much over there and having the opportunity to speak with members of congress knows that as we work together to find this cure we will continue to fight and never give up. This trip made such a huge impact in my life. Her two sons and her husband that she left behind were crying when I told them I was going to get this experience to share her story. Leaving on mothers day had such a huge impact also a day they will always miss with their mom. Thank you again for everything and know that anyone that goes on this trip such as myself puts a fire in our gut that we have to keep fighting everyday to find a cure.

God Bless You Whitney and again thank you.

This is FANTASTIC, Whitney!!!! Thank you so much for the tireless energy and countless hours you put into this event for the ALS community. No words can express our gratitude. You and your spectacular group of volunteers never cease to amaze me. Thank you doesn’t seem like enough, but Thank You. I do hope that we made you and your group of volunteers proud last week in Washington D.C. , I know my heart was over flowing with pride and hope, when we walked from office to office in on Capitol Hill pleading our case and telling our stories. Our PALS and CALS were so powerful and were so thankful and proud to be there representing their brothers and sisters who have fought and those who continue to fight this horrific disease. Of the 12 meetings we had with our Senators and Congressmen these are the ones who said they would positively support and sign the Dear Colleague letter to the Appropriations Committee to approve the $15 million from the Department of Defense for ALS Research and $10 million to continue the National Registry Program to help compile national information on people who are living with ALS to try and help find a cause and cure;

Congressman Charlie Gonzalez
Congressman Lloyd Doggett
Congressman Henry Cuellar

Strong Possibility they will sign on are;

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson
Congressman Lamar Smith
Congressman Michael Conaway

Without Max’s Ride our patients voices could not be heard in the fashion it was this year. This was the first we have ever take 2 families and a living sibling to tell their stories to this many Representatives in our history of attending this conference. Because we had such a large and powerful group we were able to deliver the message to the Houston delegation as well. The Greater Houston chapter was unable to attend this year and we were able to pick up their slack and let our voices be heard in their offices as well. South Texas was all over the halls of congress making noise!! Needless to say, our PALS have got be to exhausted, my hats off to them and you, Whitney. Thank you to Max’s Ride for making this trip to advocate for our military men and women who are 2 1/2 more likely to be diagnosed with ALS, just for defending our country. We must stop the madness of this disease and you are helping us do that……..again, Thank You doesn’t seem like enough……..
