Regarding the Nanny scam, here is the latest impersonation of Max Travel. To make sure everyone who reads this blog understands, Max Travel Ltd (the real one) has absolutely nothing to do with anyone who pretends to be our agency and/or who offers you travel documents and visas for a fee. We decline all responsibility as to any losses you may incur if you send these crooks your money.

It is imperative that you NOT FOLLOW UP your enquiries as you will loose your money!!!!!!!

UPDATE ON THE NANNY SCAM

There is an organisation in the UK which you can contact if you have either been in contact with the crooks that perpetuate this scam or if you have actually been defrauded from your money.

The organisation is called: Action Fraud and they are linked to the British Government. This is what they do:

"Action Fraud is the UK’s national fraud reporting centre.

We provide a central point of contact for information about fraud. People are scammed, ripped off or conned everyday and we want this to stop. We believe that we can beat fraud if we talk about it.

The service is run by the National Fraud Authority – the government agency that helps to co-ordinate the fight against fraud in the UK.

Our online fraud reporting service is available 24 hours a day, enabling you to report a fraud and find help and support. We also provide help and advice over the phone through the Action Fraud contact centre. You can talk to our fraud specialists by calling 0300 123 2040.

Reports taken are passed to the police who may contact you for further information. Action Fraud does not investigate the cases and cannot advise you on the progress of a case."

We sent Western Union a letter laying out the Nanny Scam and offering them proof that some of their clients are crooks. This is their response received today:

Western Union Money Transfer service is designed for people to send money to people they know and should not be used to send money to unknown parties.

Western Union does not offer any type of purchase protection or escrow service and is not responsible for the non-receipt or quality of goods or services that are paid for using the Western Union Money Transfer service. Our obligation and commitment to our consumers is fulfilled when a Western Union agent pays a transaction to the designated recipient.

Western Union is committed to protecting the interests of our customers and can only do so when our system is used properly. As you believe you may be a victim of fraud, you should contact local law enforcement, and file a report. We apologize for any inconvenience regarding this incident.

Contact the nearest western union agent and make payment the Accountant Manager information below:"

"Upon receipt of the above, modalities to process your traveling document will commence immediately. We want you to note that processing of your traveling document will only take five(5) working days and the delivery of it will take just one day (Express Delivery). Do get back to us with the following bank detail so we can comfirm your payment..

Update on the Nanny Scam - Skyhook Travels Agency

We have received numerous emails checking the validity of a nanny position in London. This is the same scam we have previously reported on but with new names and email addresses. The travel agency they pretend to own, "Skyhook Travels Agency" does not exist; it is a fake. Do not send these people any money - they are crooks! What will happen if you apply is that they will ask you to wire money, usually £200 to £400 for "arrangements". Once you have paid these thieves, you will never hear from them again and you will not get your money back.

If you have paid them and you have used Western Union to do so, please email their fraud department at wursloncrc@westernunion.com and copy to info@maxtravel.co.uk Let them know what has happenned and ask them to contact me as I have lots of similar stories from many unsuspecting ladies all over the world.

Steps to take if you have been caught by the Nanny Scam

Hello ****,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I’m sorry to hear that you have paid them money and I doubt that you will ever hear from them again. However, I think you can act in a positive way to try and get your money back although it may take time.

The first thing you should do is to quickly go to your local police station with copies of all emails and payment details and lodge a formal fraud event with them. There is probably not much they can do but unless this is registered with them (same thing as if your passport was stolen) they will for sure get away with this.

Once registered with the police and you have a Case or Reference Number of some kind, contact the company through which you have paid the money. This is probably Western Union? If this was a local office, report the police reference to them and lodge a formal request to be reimbursed; again, try to get a reference number.

Once you have done both these things, please contact me again with this information as I have contacts in London with the Western Union fraud department. (If the payment company is different I will contact their fraud department). This is important because when I contacted them before about this they said that unless I could present a specific event of financial theft, there was nothing they could do. I will also need to know all account details and names that these crooks gave you as well as their email correspondence between them and you.

As I said, this may take time and patience but in the long run, with your help and my contacts, we may be able to persuade the payment company to reimburse you and if possible close these people’s accounts.

And lastly, if you have any friends who are in a similar position, please warn them. One way to do this is to write a comment via my blog on this subject.

Please note that our company identity is being used by certain persons to steal arrangement fees for UK visas and travel. Our company registration details are being used. We have absolutely nothing to do with this and strongly advise you to contact us via this group should you have any concerns. Here is an example of an email that pertains to be ligitimate; it is not. The email comes from "maxtravelinter@live.com" which has nothing to do with us.

Here is a text of the email scam:

"Max Travel Managment wishes to thank you for contacting us regarding the arrangement of your traveling documents to the London once again. We promise to Offer you the best which you will be glad you did. It was Indicated in your e-mail that you have been told by your Host Family "Mr. Grave Mouries" who asked you to contact us. We promise never to disappoint you as we have never disappointed him either. We would request that you provide us with the following so that the documentation will start immediately. We would get your flight ticket, medical insurance, tax clearance, work permit and other documents within 3 days as soon as we receive these informations from you .

This person is calling himself Daniel Robert and he does not work for Max Travel Ltd. This person is requesting flights to and from African locations and is using stolen credit card details.
