Nintendo leads the ranking of gaming companies, based on software revenues. Gaming has become big business, especially during the last decade: the industry grew at double digit rates until last year. The top 10 companies now have a combined revenue of over 24 billion USD, in a market estimated to be worth well over 50 billion USD, which is slightly less than in 2008 (-5%). Despite the economic crisis, the online gaming segment is still booming, resulting in fast growth of the leading companies in this market.

Leaders

Nintendo is the largest gaming company in the world. Bringing gaming to new audiences with the Wii, Nintendo reached a peak in gaming revenue in 2008. In 2009, software revenues were a little lower (-6.2%), as was the case for most top 10 companies. The largest American game publishers, Activision Blizzard (#2) and EA (#3), saw revenues decline with -7.4% and -12.7% respectively. Sony and Microsoft, both competing with Nintendo on the game console market, are far behind with less than a third of Nintendo's software revenues.
Seven companies in the 2010 list have gaming software revenues above US$1 billion.

Fast growing companies

Growth of gaming revenues mainly took place in Asia, the top 5 fastest growing companies are all from Asia. Out of these five, four are online computer game companies. NCSoft and Nexon are the leading South Korean companies, NetEase and Perfect World are headquartered in China.

Trends

As the fast growth top 10 shows, online gaming is becoming more popular. For 2009, the market share of online games is estimated at one sixth of the total video game market. This share is rising quickly, as are the companies in this field. It took the most successful companies only a few years to make hundreds of millions USD. Chinese Shanda Interactive is the largest pure-play online gaming company with sales of over US$ 700 million. US based Zynga, the maker of FarmVille, made an estimated $270 million in 2009. Traditional game makers are aware of the online goldmine, and are publishing their own online titles.

Like elsewhere in the software industry, the motto in the gaming industry is: acquire or be acquired, resulting in a continuous flow of company transactions:
- Playfish, a successful European maker of social network games, was taken over by Electronic Arts in 2009.
- Koei and Tecmo merged in 2009. Revenues rose, but not enough to move up the ranking.
- Square Enix got into the top 10 after acquiring Eidos in April 2009.

Conclusion

The gaming industry has quickly grown in the past, and we expect it to keep growing faster than the software industry average. As the world population grows richer, progressively more money is available for entertainment, which provides a sound revenue driver for the gaming industry.

people who have fear of failure often have difficulty in pushing themselves forward, to achieve their goals. this usually occurs because of a mindset that tells them they would fail at whatever they do.

DEALING WITH FEAR OF FAILURE: A simple technique you can use to overcome fear of failure is to use something called progressive collapse. this involves first thinking about all the bad things that would happen if you didn't do something.

Then ask yourself what would happen after that, and after that, and after that, keep going until you could find the extreme of the worst that could possibly happen. often you would find out that the worst thing you thought of was not so bad after all and most of the time it won't even happen.

Another method you can use is do things you are purposely afraid of. usually when people have a fear of failure it becomes a habit. and consequently they give in to fear without even thinking about it. if you recognise this habit in yourself, you will be able to identify times when you are purposefully avoiding doing something because of the fear you associate with it.

however by purposefully going ahead and doing the things you fear eventually you would break that habit.
the more you give into fear, the more fear would control and restrain your life. the more you resist fear, the less fear would control your life, and more liberated you would feel.

Have You Ever Considered Working Online?

Kelly Richards from Brooklyn, NY never thought that she would, until curiosity got the best of her and she filled out a simple online form. Before she knew it, she discovered her secret to beating the recession, and being able to provide for her family while at home with her three children.

Online giant Google, worth over 100 billion dollars is the most used search engine and internet market place. Using Google and the other search engines to make money online has been a eye-opener for Kelly. There are plenty of scams on the internet claiming you can make $50,000 a month, but that is exactly what they are scams. From my conversation with Kelly, "I am making a good salary from home, which is amazing, under a year ago I was jobless in a horrible economy. I thank God every day that I filled out that form."

Christian ruled unfit to continue Project Fame against his wishes

Project Fame West Africa has announced the withdrawal of Christian Owusu from the competition on health grounds. The Ghanaian was said to have had a collision with one of the other contestants while rehearsing for last weekend’s performance. He became dizzy and lost his eyesight. He was rushed to the hospital and subsequently regained his sight. He was subjected to a thorough medical examination and CT scan. The academy medical team after reviewing the test results advised a 6-week rest. Dr Wale Adeboje, head of the medical team said “Christian has been diagnosed not to be fully fit for the rest of the show, although he is now in good health, we have recommended that he stops all forms of rigorous activities for the next 6 weeks so that he can adequately recuperate.” Christian left Lagos for Ghana on Thursday 9^th September and is already back with his family.
Meanwhile Christian has since arrived in Ghana unwillingly, saying that he wish he was allowed to continue in the competition. According to him, after regaining his eyesight, he told the organizer’s of the show that he was fit to continue but they wouldn’t allow him to go any further.

Nana Addo was too short

The Deputy Coordinator of the National Youth Council, Prince Derrick Adjei says Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo may not have been acknowledged during the Oguaa Afahye festival by President J.E.A. Mills because he was probably drowned in the crowd owing to his height and stature.

Organizers of this year’s Oguaa Fetu Afahye in the Central Region have been accused of sidelining the NPP flag-bearer during the course of the festival even though Nana Addo was invited by the chiefs.

President Mills is also reported to have ignored Nana Addo when he was greeting the people. He refused even to mention Nana’s name when reading his speech.

Other members of the ruling government, including regional minister Ama Benyiwa-Doe, also refused to recognise the flag-bearer of the largest opposition party, while the President’s special aide Nii Lantey Vanderpuije is reported to have stopped Nana Addo on his way to greet the chiefs, claiming the government was in charge of the festival.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme Monday, Mr Adjei rationalised the apparent state protocol breach, saying whatever took place would not have happened if Nana had stayed within his limits and had not wanted to be accorded a status he did not deserve.

He explained that President Mills is the only President of Ghana and that nobody should attempt to outstage him, especially by a leader of one of the many political parties in the country.

Mr Adjei claimed that some supporters who accompanied Nana Addo were smelling of alcohol and so were stopped from going to certain places they were not supposed to go.

He added that it is the government’s prerogative to acknowledge people and that there is no hard and fast rule about whose name should appear in speeches.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s spokesperson and Member of Parliament for Bimbila, Dominic Nitiwul, took offence with Mr Adjei’s comments, insisting that it was an insult to the about 46% of supporters who voted for Nana in the 2008 elections.

Mr Nitiwul claimed that despite all that had happened, Nana was not disconcerted about his being snubbed by the President and his officials during the festival.

Rather, Nana Addo is thankful and grateful to the chiefs and people of the Central Region for acknowledging and supporting him by inviting him to attend the festival, said Mr Nitiwul.

He added that though Nana Addo is not upset, he is worried about the display of arrogance by some government officials and their effrontery to turn a festival organised by the indigenous people into a government controlled programme.

He said “whether the NDC acknowledges him [Nana] or not, whether Nii Lantey Vanderpuije stopped him from greeting the chiefs, that would not stop Nana from being loved by the people of the Central Region and 2012 would surely show”.

The MP concluded that if he were President Mills, he would be worried about the cheers Nana reviewed from the people as against what he [the President] had.

Caroline Mcwilliams is dead. She was suffering from multiple myeloma. Her family has confirmed that she died in her home. The actress is widely known for her roles as Marcy Hill on the series of the 80’s named ‘Benson’. It starred Robert Guiillaume.
She was born in Seattle and was raised in Rhode island. She earned a bachelor’s degree at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and she got her big break in television in the year 1969 when she got the offer of casting in Guiding Light on a regular basis.

She also worked in theater and that included her role in “Cat on the Hot tin roof” in the year 1975. She was married to actor Michael Keaton from 1982-1990 and they have a one son together who is now 26 years old.

Sex scares young actresses

Sex is gradually becoming the bane of Ghana’s growing movie industry as it has become an impediment between young professional actresses and their career.

According to sources in the movie industry, sex has become one of major problems affecting the smooth progress of the industry as every year, more and more young actresses have to go through the sex ordeal before they can get a role to play.

Those actresses who wouldn’t engage in such an act have to abandon their acting dreams for different careers, hence the domination of the industry by a few faces.

Some movie producers and directors, our sources disclosed, “have been exporting their bedroom amorous tricks with their wives onto the movie field by demanding sex from these potential young actresses before giving them roles to play.”

“They always tell the girls that big stars in various movie industries around the world also had sex with their bosses before they were able to climb to where they are now.”

The worst of it all is that, after having sex with some of the girls, the producers and directors at times renege on their promises, giving several excuses for their inability to fulfill those promises.

While professionally trained actresses are often thrown out because they would not give in to the demands of their ‘bosses’, their colleagues who have not had any form of professional training are quick to surrender because they want to be seen on TV at all cost.

When contacted, Mr. Nii Odoi Mensah, President of the Ghana Actors’ Guild, confirmed the story. He said the issue had come to the Guild’s notice but it was difficult to track down the perpetrators especially as the ladies involved would not like to come out publicly to talk about it.

“In every organization, we have such few bad nuts who would engage in all kinds of activities. It is not nice and I must emphasize that, those involved should stop.

A young, beautiful girl once complained to me that a producer wanted to have her in bed before he gives her a role to play but she refused and that was the end for her.”

Mr. Odoi Mensah continued that the problem was one of the contributory factors to the dominance of many school dropouts in the movie industry. “If you look at our industry now, it is full of many school dropouts because of these anomalies.

When you look at Nigeria’s industry, it is full of professionals and university graduates,” he said.

He therefore called on producers and directors to help bring sanity into the industry, stressing that it is not right to have sex with a lady before giving her a role in a movie, or make young actresses and actors pay for audition and location fees

Koranteng is Miss Universe Ghana

Ms. Jennifer Victoria Koranteng, a 22-year old Theatre Arts and Psychology graduate of the University of Ghana, is to represent the country at this year's Miss Universe show scheduled for August in Bahamas.

This followed her selection during the Pageant competition held in Accra on Friday night.

She beat four other contestants to win the Miss Universe Ghana 2009 title after excelling in four categories of grueling task performance. This included individual presentation, physical fitness or swimsuit appearance, interview and questions on national and world affairs, and composure and grace.

The other contestants were Daphne Grace Allotey, first runners-up and Suzana Darko, second runner up and Angela Effum and Matilda Hammond.

Miss Koranteng, who displayed exceptional smartness, intelligence and confidence, said she would rely on those qualities to win the world title for Ghana in August.

She will leave Ghana for Bahamas in July to enable her undergo a training session to prepare her for the show.

The Miss Universe Pageant, dedicated to advancing the professional, personal and humanitarian goals of young women, is a partnership of Donald J. Trump, a United States of America real estate developer and billionaire and NBC Universal Incorporated of the USA.

STC officials to face criminal charges...

Criminal charges are to be preferred against officials of Intercity STC (ISTC) Coaches Limited, the country's premier transport company, whose actions resulted in ISTC incurring huge financial losses.

The report of a committee exposed financial malfeasance at ISTC, resulting in the company incurring millions of Ghana cedis in losses.

"Findings in the report that border on criminality will be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office for the necessary action," the Minister of Transport, Mr Mike Allen Harnmah, told the Daily Graphic in Accra following the report that exposed the 'rot' at the company.

He said the government had contracted the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) to develop a revival plan to revamp the operations of ISTC in an effort to lift the comp-any out of its present predicament:

The plan, he added, was expected to be presented to the ministry by August 17, 2010, although the management and board of ISTC w.ere also working together to develop a comprehensive and a strategic business plan.

Giving highlights of what the plan was to capture, the .minister said it would involve ideas that would seek to inject fresh capital to revamp the operations of the company and introduce cost-cutting measures to streamline activities at ISTC.

Mr Hammah, who described the company's financial standing as "precarious", said it made gross profit but recorded negative net profit due to what he described as "high operating cost", underscoring the need for cost-cutting mechanisms to enhance efficiency.

He expressed the belief that the company would enjoy a Unique and competitive advantage in the transport industry in the country, given its preference by majority of the travelling public across the country.

He expressed concern over the sudden loss of confidence in the company by sections of the public following the poor nature of its operations, coupled with poor customer service, among other operational difficulties.

The minister was of the view that injecting fresh capital into the company was subject to approval by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) which had an 80 per cent stake in ISTC, since it was a stakeholder.

"The government's interest now is to bolster the company to make it more efficient for the travelling public," he said.

To that end, Mr Hammah stated that the ministry was exploring the possibility of seeking private sector participation in the company, in view of some 200 buses that were expected to be imported into the country as a first tranche for distribution to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Limited.

He added that procuring additional buses for ISTC would be subject to how the company performed after the plan had been implemented.

"ISTC has a lot of landed property and all that is needed is for a blueprint to turn the affairs of the Company around," Mr Hammah added.

The August 12, 2010 edition of the Daily Graphic published the findings of a committee of enquiry that exposed financial malfeasance at ISTC, in which an estimated GH¢81 million collected from passengers as clearance fees from 2000 to 2009 could not be accounted for.

The clearance fees were paid by passengers to and from Abidjan, Cotonou and Ouagadougou, in addition to the normal fares charged by ISTC, to facilitate their smooth and quick movement through the many borders and barriers on the company's international routes.

Though the fees had been collected in the name of the company, there was no record of receipts, nor could the money be accounted for by the management

EEEH Sammy B returns to Big Brother Africa

Big Brother Africa is back and this time, so are the housemates. The Big Brother All-stars launch on Sunday saw a reunion of housemates from all four previous seasons of the hit reality TV show, come back for a chance to win the $200,000 prize money.

As speculated throughout the days leading to the big reveal Ghana’s rep from Season 1 of the show, Sammy B got the nod to represent the country in the all-star version. Many Ghanaians believe Sammy B has been their best rep since the show begun, and many more are convinced that he could have gone even further if he had not injured himself in the series. Sammy’s leg injury perhaps made him a burden to the other housemates during the tasks and maybe boring to watch. So what has changed now and can Sammy win Big Brother for Ghana?

Well, Sammy goes into the Big Brother House at a time when the love and admiration for Ghana is at a high following the exploits of the Ghana Black Stars at the just ended 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. IT SOUND'S FUNNY BUT THIS IS THE REAL ORDEAL OF THE WOMAN WHO STOLE A PHONE IN UK....

TV3, producers of Ghana’s Most Beautiful has stripped the reigning queen of her title following reports that she was allegedly involved in a phone theft in the UK. In a press release, the TV station said it regrets to announce that in the light of certain recent revelations, involving Miss Nasara Mariam Abdul Rauf, it is officially parting ways with her.

According to the release signed by Syed Ahmad Zaidi, CEO of TV3, the title would be passed on to the first runner up.

“The decision has come after a series of investigations and internal discussions. The Crown will automatically pass on to Miss Lamisi Sam Awinongya, the 1st runner up of Ghana’s Most Beautiful 2009.”

“It has not been easy for TV3 to arrive at such a course of action. This has however become necessary in order to maintain the integrity of and uphold the noble ideas of the TV3 Ghana’s Most Beautiful brand.”

Miss Nasara, will, however, retain all the prizes that she received for winning the pageant, including the car.

Engineers are more successful than doctors and lawyers at
transforming income into wealth, according to a new survey
by American wealth reseacher Thomas Stanley.
The survey, conducted by the University of Georgia Survey
Research Institute, was published in Stop Acting Rich…And Start
Living Like a Real Millionaire. The book is the latest in a series
by Stanley that explores the minds and behaviors of the wealthiest
Americans. In it, Stanley attributes engineers’ wealth-building
capacity to a thrifty nature.
“Engineers in general are a frugal group,” writes Stanley. “They
are less likely to favor expensive status-denoting products and
brands than other groups. For many of them, substance, design
and endurance are more important factors in selecting a product,
even a home, than showy style and status connotations.”
Interviews were conducted with more than 1,500 respondents,
representing more than 5,000 households from neighborhoods
with a high estimated incidence of millionaires, whom Stanley
defines as having $1 million in investments, excluding their homes.
