Glenn Beck is named by TIME "one of the 100 most influential people in the world" quixotically praised by another member of the list, Sarah Palin:

Who'd have thought a history buff with a quirky sense of humor and a chalkboard could make for such riveting television?

Really. Palin compared Beck to the high school government teacher so many wish they'd had, charting and connecting ideas with chalk-dusted fingers -- kicking it old school -- instead of becoming just another talking-heads show host.

His love of the Founding Fathers inspires others to learn and respect our nation's history.

Excruciatingly Palin described Beck as "America's professor of common sense":

Though he sometimes dismisses himself as an aw-shucks guy or just a 'rodeo clown,' he's really an inspiring patriot who was once at the bottom but now makes a much needed difference from the very, very top.

FoxNews "Real American Stories" - featuring faux naturalist Sarah Palin - advertized an interview with LL Cool J, among other celebrities.

However the rapper hit back on Twitter claiming they were lying.

Fox retorted

... as it appears that Mr. Smith does not want to be associated with a program that could serve as an inspiration to others, we are cutting his interview from the special and wish him the best with his fledgling acting career

Apart from the ominous tone, Fox P.R. showed it's usual 'color' in using his real name for the riposte. The Daily Kos also observed:

According to everyone from Variety to The Washington Post, the series "Sarah Palin's Alaska" has been picked up for a reported $1 million-plus per episode.

Variety says Palin's project with reality TV rainmaker Mark Burnett

will center on interesting characters, traditions and attractions in the 49th state -- with the ex-VP candidate as a guide.

That sounds a little like the treatment of "Into The Wild". The main character dies of starvation in the end.

The Sunday episode of the Fox animated comedy “Family Guy” drawing the repeated wrath of Sarah Palin about down-syndrome references has an interesting twist, or perhaps a deliberate drum-roll-cymbal-crash.

One person who supports the “Family Guy” staff is Andrea Fay Friedman, the 39-year-old actor who plays Ellen, the celebrated down-syndrome character, in that episode. Satirically, like the character, Ms. Friedman actually does suffer from Down syndrome!

Former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has signed on as a contributor to the Fox News Channel. The network confirmed that Palin will appear on the network on a regular basis as part of a multi-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed, but probably worth every one of those 30 silver coins.

This comes on the heels of further 2008 campaign sniping reraised by the book "Game Change":

Mind-blowingly Rachel Maddow's MSNBC show dug into some curious filings in Alaska last September by Bristol Palin. The paperwork established Palin as the organizer of a new company called BSMP LLC.

BSMP is, apparently, based on Palin's initials. We assume "LLC" is purely legal form.

HuffPo repeated verbatim from Maddow's report (which they bylined "Take your daughter to work" day):

[Palin's Lawyer] finally got back to us late this evening. He told us in an E-mail, quote, "The code for BSMP, LLC pertains to several areas but includes public relations. Bristol Palin provides public relations services and is currently an ambassador for the Candie`s Foundation.
The Candie`s Foundation is a pro-abstinence organization. Bristol Palin has essentially set herself up to be paid as an incorporated entity as opposed to being paid as an individual and that`s sort of a common choice people make when they have money coming in from various sources like this.
So BSMP, LLC, may just be a pretty smart financial decision by a very astute 19-year-old, or Bristol Palin is about to launch a lobbying and consultancy firm to run her mom`s 2012 presidential campaign. Theoretically possible, but probably not.

Sarah Palin's much vaunted "no coverage" speech at a Wisconsin Right to Life rally on Friday evening, resulted in, well, expected blogger coverage regardless. Not surprisingly there was another classic Palindrome about the current design of certain US mint coins.

Despite the comfortable subject matter Palin's remarks appeared to divert into some incongruous diatribe about the latest dollar coins in circulation:

In addition to the suggestion that government officials would consider hastening the death of the infirm or handicapped, she began her remarks with a puzzling commentary on the design of newly minted dollar coins.

Noting that there had been a lot of “change” of late, Palin recalled a recent conversation with a friend about how the phrase “In God We Trust” had been moved to the edge of the new coins.

“Who calls a shot like that?” she demanded. “Who makes a decision like that?”

She added: “It’s a disturbing trend.”

Which 'friend' might that be?

It looks like SarahPAC news feeds have found another questionable "smaller government" war cry:

The decision to put "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the edges of presidential dollar coins has received little attention from the press, but was reversed in 2007, before President Barack Obama took office. Sens. Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Robert Byrd (D-WV) sponsored legislation to move the motto back to the front face of the coins.

"IN SARAH WE TRUST" would look good.

Update:

As Fox News anchor Bret Baier noted: President Bush, that's who.

Baier quoted from Politico's write up on the banquet which commented on the not-so-hidden subtext of Palin's speech: "Unsaid but implied was that the new Democratic White House was behind such a move to secularize the nation's currency." Baier added: "In actuality the coin's design was commissioned in 2005, when Republicans controlled congress, and then was approved by then President Bush."

Nice try Sarah. Stick to "Death Panels."

Sarah Palin Goes Rogue In New York

Sarah Palin and her Tea Parties drove the moderate from a race but catastrophically lost the New York House seat in the 23rd congressional district last night, that hadn't voted for anything else in 100 years.

The commentators quickly pointed out the irony:

Doug Hoffman lost his election last night. He was supported by a plurality of talk radio entertainers, and a majority of former half-term governors of Alaska, but it wasn't enough. An obscure quirk of constitutional law says you also need votes from voters.

With their help, and a million dollars from the Club for Growth, Doug Hoffman lost a part of New York State that had voted Republican since the best way to get from Albany to Buffalo was by canal.

Not bad for a first try.

“Watch it be spun as a defeat for Sarah Palin and the hateful extreme right-wing of the Republican party,” National Review's Kathryn Jean Lopez blogged; posted at 11.56pm no less!

The race for New York’s 23rd District is not over, just postponed until 2010. The issues of this election have always centered on the economy – on the need for fiscal restraint, smaller government, and policies that encourage jobs. In 2010, these issues will be even more crucial to the electorate. I commend Doug Hoffman and all the other under-dog candidates who have the courage to put themselves out there and run against the odds.

Times of London confirms Palin "humorless"

Sarah Palin’s much anticipated "Asian" speech, delivered in Hong Kong to the CLSA Asia Pacific Markets Forums, marked her first ever visit to East Asia.

So said a report at the Times.

They also, in a show of British reserve, remarked

It was a rare foreign outing for the former Vice-Presidential candidate...

"Rare." We should say so. "Previously Non-Existant" would be more accurate.

The article continued that

(she) began with a monologue that invoked the spirit of Margaret Thatcher, sounded “unmistakably” like a pitch for the 2012 presidency and was described by several members of the audience as “long, humorless and George W Bush-like”.

More humorously, reports are that audience members walked out of Ms Palin’s speech citing “more important things to do."

Alaskan blogger Mudflats trawled for various commentaries and found the perfect:

She started the speech with the Alaskan fishing industry, which I think is a safe topic for her,”

Perfect. Perfect.

Matt Latimer’s - one of Dubya’s speechwriters during the president’s final months in office - new book “Speechless: Tales of a White House Survivor” calls out some pretty outrageous claims about W's opinion of his follow-up GOP contenders, Sarah Palin and John McCain.

Supposedly, as itemized in the October issue of GQ magazine, George exclaimed on Palin:

This woman is being put into a position she is not even remotely prepared for,” he said. “She hasn’t spent one day on the national level. Neither has her family. Let’s wait and see how she looks five days out.”

"Five days..." That was generous.

Bush went on to remark about McCain's apparent inability to draw campaign crowds but the best quote seems to be from then political adviser, Barry Jackson, bluntly calling McCain a “stupid prick.”

Mudflats blogs that "Before (he) knew she was unqualified, he also apparently thought that she was the Governor of Guam, the only position to which she still may be electable" based on Bush's

I’m trying to remember if I’ve met her before. I’m sure I must have.” His eyes twinkled, then he asked, “What is she, the governor of Guam?”

Prescient.

Of course, as Politicalticker immediately posted, a Bush assistant and campaign aide discounted all such claims and Latimer as a source.
