A western-themed horror film entitled “The Prospector’s Curse” has wrapped production near the remote town of Ponty Pool, Ontario. Set during the Klondike Gold Rush of the 1890’s, the darkly comedic short is Written and Directed by Josh Heisie (‘Mail Order Bride’), Produced by Bruno Marino (‘Anything Goes’) and is currently in Post Production in Toronto, Canada.

The talent lineup for “The Prospector’s Curse” includes David Roberts (‘Curious and Unusual Deaths’), Johnny Quinn (‘Mind’s Eye: The Series’), Amanda Ives (‘I Hate Toronto: A Love Story’) and Robert Nolan (‘Worm’).

Rounding out the creative team are Director of Photography Michael Jari Davidson (‘SICK’), and Special Effects Makeup Artist Carlos Henriques (‘Red: Werewolf Hunter’) of The Butcher Shop.

Synopsis
Theodore “Tubby” Ellsworth and Jack smith are two criminals on the run, lost in the untamed wilderness. When they stumble across a mutilated Prospector, dying on Indian ground, they promise to give him a Christian burial. The fugitives break their oath and steal the old man’s gold…but that night, the Prospector’s corpse returns to make them pay!

"The Evil Visitor" Novel

Synopsis:
Northern Kuwait, 1991. The first Persian Gulf War.

Peter Donovan, a US Army lieutenant leads a group of soldiers into an ambush in the Iraqi desert. The fight begins and the enemies get massacred. Hearing a terrible child cry, trying to help, he encounters a terrifying force in a grave beneath the sands of the desert where he has unknowingly pocketed an amulet that contains enormous power. Evil takes him to death's door, yet he is able to escape.

Years later, Peter, now a civilian and a small town sheriff, unwittingly opens a door for that ancient evil with a what many consider to be a child's game, the Ouija Board. Donovan enlists the help of Father Josh Carter, a Catholic priest beset by his own doubts, in his effort to fight this paranormal threat.

Will evil destroy them? Will they be able to save those they love or will evil triumph and send them all to hell?

Drunken Zombie International Horror Film Festival Open For Submissions

The fifth annual Drunken Zombie Film Festival is now open for submissions! We are celebrating our 5th year of showing independent horror films to a horror audience that is hungry to see something outside of the studio system that can tap into the horror life line and bring them a great experience they have been craving. We show all types of horror films and not just zombie films which some take our name to imply. So whatever type of horror film you have feel free to submit.

Our submission process is easy. Head over to the website, www.drunkenzombiefilmfestival.com, fill out the online submission form, and mail it off with your movie. It's that easy. No entry fees. No complex rules. If you want your horror film seen by an audience that is craving the next great horror film then this is the festival for you. We are looking for feature films, short films, music videos, trailers, etc. Anything you got we'll take a look at. The deadline for submissions is August 31st, 2012. Vicious Circle Aims to ‘Wound’ Audiences with a Gore-Filled Supernatural Tale of Revenge

Acid Head: The Buzzard Nuts County Slaughter - coming your way soon!

The latest movie from Tony 'Tex' Watt "Acid Head: The Buzzard Nuts County Slaughter" is finding it's way to availability in the very near future, Watt's recent work as a director includes "Vixen Highway 2006" and "Frankpimp". The movie features the director Tony 'Tex' Watt himself, and his preferred heroin and frequent workpartner Vivita playing the lead as Pheromone Labonza and Acid Head. Others starring are Lewis Mercer, Lana Tailor, Elvin Domenic, Paul Nicholls, Adam Schickedanz and many others, and in a cunning cameo as the sneaky reporter Biff Bangs, the only European actor in the film; Kim Sønderholm.

On using the latter, director Tony 'Tex' Watt said: "When our movie about a killer goth-girl needed a main greek chorus-type performer [the character who tells the viewer what is going on], to embody the form of news anchor: Biff Bangs... I, as the Writer/Director needed an internationally appealing actor who was both authoritative and able to carry some of the comedic hyperbole, with dry humor [As Sean Connery did in the early 007 movies]. Versatile actor/filmmaker Kim Sønderholm came to mind as the first choice, as I admired his acting prowess in such films as "Craig", "Tour de Force", "Bleed with Me"; as well as his comedic turn in the 2011 TV series "Goodbye Light". Sønderholm embodied to myself, a brilliant character actor, who was very hard working and tenacious. Working with him, showed me that this charismatic and popular performer was exactly what I perceived, as well as being very humorous and humble."

Idea for the film originally came in 2009, when Award winning Canadian horror author and TV host (Flatline, Post-Mortem, Nightmare in Canada: Canadian Horror on Film) Edo van Belkom's son Luke started filming "Acid Head: The High School Horror" based on a loose script plot the young van Belkom co-wrote with actor/filmmaker Tony 'Tex' Watt. The script's projected budget was originally too high; so Watt decided to shoot an improvised sequel, first, based on situations deriving from his previous script.

I've been hearing about Rage ever since it played at the 2010 International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival (winner of best horror feature film) at the Madcap Theater in Tempe Arizona. I was unable to make it to one of its screenings at the time, but thankfully I recently had an opportunity to watch this low budget indie horror film. This flick was written, produced, photographed, edited and directed by Chris R. Witherspoon (Middle Man). Whew! As if that wasn't enough, the talented up-and-coming filmmaker also co-stars as the homicidal motorcyclist in which most of the film revolves around.

Set in the beautiful city of Portland Oregon and its suburbs, we are introduced early on to our main character named Dennis Twist (Rick Crawford). He exchanges pleasantries with his neighbor and kisses his wife Crystal (Audrey Walker) good-bye before heading off to town for a secret rendezvous. Once he arrives to his destination, he meets up with his mistress Dana (Anna Lodej) and lets her know that he is breaking up with her because he loves his wife and feels badly that he's cheating on her.

Soon afterward, he accidentally provokes the wrath of a leather-clad, dark-helmeted motorcyclist and has constant encounters with the villain the rest of the day. Things start off slowly and innocently enough as there is some minor taunting at stop lights, but things get progressively tense and more violent. Twist's vehicle gets scratched and his brake-line gets cut. On a couple of occasions during the day-long game of cat and mouse, he gets the shit beat out of him – most notably in a well-executed scene in a restroom stall. Throughout all of this mayhem, he suspects it could be Dana’s criminal ex-boyfriend, but isn’t sure – and he chooses not to say anything, so that he doesn’t risk his wife finding out about her.

This indie horror-suspense-thriller was heavily influenced by the 1971 Steven Spielberg masterpiece film Duel, and the influence is apparent - the film plays out with similar cat-and mouse games played between the villain and the imperfect hero. Also, the main character talks to himself through some of the hairy situations similar to what Dennis Weaver did in Duel. There’s even a straight-up shout-out during a scene in which a couple of characters in a car repair shop talk about the classic film. I also love the fact that, much like Duel, we never get to see the bikers face - the villain is simply shrouded by a cloud of intrigue and mystery.

It's obvious that Witherspoon squeezed every little bit of his small budget into the film - and it shows as the production values are high. The locales are absolutely breathtaking, the movie is nicely photographed and the music adds to the tension-filled vibe of the film. The gut-wrenching conclusion includes a twist ending that I did not see coming at all. Also, for all you gore hounds out there, the climax has exactly what you're looking for as it gets pretty gruesome and gory. Overall, Rage is an entertaining throwback horror movie with equal parts tension, suspense, terror and action. Witherspoon is entertaining offers for the distribution of this kick ass movie, so make sure to lookout for it in the near future.

Horror short film 'Teddy' now available from Slasher Studios

Hey Maximum Horror buddies! Check out the new 12 minute horror short film Teddy. It was co-written by up-and-coming filmmakers Steve Goltz and Kevin Sommerfield. The short was directed by Goltz while Sommerfield also served as the film's executive producer as well as acted the part of Aaron. This short tells the tale of four college kids that are out for a joyride during a camping trip in the backwoods of Wisconsin. The drunk kids run over and kill a motorist that was that was trying to flag them down for help. Teddy witnesses this horrific event as he sat on the side of the road, so with his trusty teddy bear in one hand, he sets off on a blood-soaked revenge rampage - picking off the dumb kids one-by-one.

Needless to say, I found Teddy to be extremely entertaining as it brought back fond memories from when I was a kid during the 1980's. The film stars Keegan Bergen, Kirk Gilbert, Mike Goltz, Kevin Sommerfield, Dana Terpinas and Nikita Vora. It was shot in Wisconsin earlier this year and was produced by Slasher Studios at the School of Theater and Film at Arizona State University - Go Sun Devils! Night of the Little Dead is an eleven minute horror short that was written and directed by Ezekiel Zabrowski and released by the good folks over at Ghost Works LLC. I originally heard about this little gem on the Drunken Zombie Podcast (Episode #147) after it played at the Drunken Zombie Film Festival in Peoria, Illinois.

The short film boasts an exceptional cast led by horror film legend Bill Moseley (The Devil's Rejects, Halloween), stand-up comic/actor Penn Jillette (Penn and Teller) and Adam Savage (Myth Busters).
