Four new nations in Maxithlon!

We are glad to welcome four new nations that will join Maxithlon competitions at the beginning of the upcoming 31st season. Israel will be part of Europe, while the Philippines, Japan and Malaysia will belong to the third continent "Asia - Africa - Pacific". We wish the new managers from these nations the best of luck.

Maxithlon 3.0: update on the situation

Maxithlon 3.0 has been released with some difficulties: moving the website to the new server was extremely time-intensive, resulting in a shorter time to be devoted to bug fixing. On Friday a bug affecting youth training emerged and was readily tackled by the developers. Malfunctioning analysis was challenging and took some time also because of some contingent personal issues. Monday morning (GMT), as soon as practicable after the competitions, the youth training algorithm was restored and missed training sessions were recovered. Other minor bugs pointed out by the community are being addressed in these days. Additionally website performance is being improved, both on the server and client side, as workload and query usage data are collected. Besides the announced and evident news, many small improvements came with Maxithlon 3.0 : - "fans" parameter available in market search. - staff members are now able to label their posts as "official" (in any federation). This could help users to understand when a post is written in behalf of the staff or as a personal opinion. - coaches' nationality could be any among those of Maxithlon nations. - as already stated long ago the old Maxithlon XML pages are now disabled. Further information on how to deal with the new ones are available in Maxi-XML Developer federation. Moreover we inform you that moving to the new server allowed the developers to solve the long-standing problem regarding athlete's personal ranking update: this feature is now properly working. Lastly we apologize for any inconveniences that occurred to our users during the transition to the new release of Maxithlon.

3.0 release confirmed

We can confirm that the server move and the release of version 3.0 of Maxithlon are taking place on November 10 and 11. The total downtime during the two days will be about 12 hours. We kindly request you all to anticipate each relevant operation (transfers, NL enrollments, ...) in order to avoid problems related to the downtime.

Postponing of 3.0 release

Despite what we communicated to you all some days ago, the Server change and the contextual upgrade to Maxithlon 3.0 will not take place during the next week but will be postponed to the 10th or 11th of November. Obviously you will be provided with more detailed news and updates. This postponing derives from the fact that the new Server has still not been prepared by our Server farm and we are therefore obliged to find a new date during the following week to undertake the tasks of closing the old server and moving to the new one.

Standard time

On Sunday morning, Maxithlon Time will switch back to Standard time (without the daylight savings time), the same as the Central European time zone. This means that the hour between 02:00 and 03:00 occurs twice. Please remember this while managing your club to avoid unpleasant problems.

Halloween of change?

We inform our users that we are nearing the finish line both for Maxithlon 3.0 release and the server change. Both events will probably take place between October 31 and November 1. Further information will follow when we know the date the hardware set up is confirmed to be ready. We kindly ask you to anticipate your operations to avoid inconveniences due to any lack of service during these two days.

The second survey is over

The second survey that was opened in the International Federation about the Coaches is now over. Unlike the previous survey, the option "No changes" has won, getting up to 57% of the votes against 43% of you that were favorable to lower the number of Coaches to 8 but exchanging that for a better chance to customize the Coaches themselves, paying them a doubled wage. It is therefore evident that nothing will change from the current system of Coaches and training, as the Community has decided. We hope that you've appreciated this kind of approach that we decided to use in order to define the best possible way Maxithlon's development should proceed; permitting the Users to really decide the outcome, which is something that has never happened in any other browser game. We also hope to propose this system for future ideas.

An update from the Developers...

It doesn't seem like we have been busy for a long time, but we would like to clear up that impression, at least for the most important themes related to Maxithlon's development. Maxithlon 3.0 Many of you are surely thinking about where this project has gone. Actually the project is alive and well, even if it's development has suffered a slowdown due to several reasons, some of a personal nature. In addition to the new graphic version that will replace the former one and a substantial review of Maxithlon's code, we are working on a new set of faces, much more defined than the former ones, and we are also working on other graphics upgrades of the website. Due to the fact that we are designing everything from scratch, it will necessarily take some time to get it technically right. Mobile version Within a few months, Maxithlon 3.0 will also be presenting the first optimized version of Maxithlon for smartphones and tablets. During the initial phase it will be possible to access only a few of the functionalities, like the athletes' list, the athletes' details and other similar generic pages. Over time, if this is important to most of our users, we will be working harder on this new project. http://s2.postimage.org/4520p46m0/2011_10_08_122528.png Server Unfortunately some weeks ago we suffered a quite heavy downtime that affected all the structure that accomodates Maxithlon's server. We have managed to repair some of the affected services, postponing lots of transfers, but there is nothing else we can do but apologize to all of our users for any problems this downtime has caused, even if it hasn't been our fault. Even if the performance of the former server was acceptable, in order to ensure a normal usability of the site, we are planning Maxithlon's move to another server, still hosted in the same structure, in November 2011. We remind all of you that, in case of serious downtime that may affect our server, the only way we can inform you is by using our Social Newtwork pages, such as Twitter and Facebook, which we remind all of you to subscribe to. Maxitrainer Together with renewing our invitation to subscribe to a Maxitrainer account in order to support our developments and projects, we remind you that DaoPay is no longer available in the UK due to some legislative actions that we have decided not to join in, and that Moneybookers has been de-activated some days ago, due to increasing costs. While considering the Italian VAT (=taxes) increase in the middle of September (from 20% to 21%), we have decided to absorb this rise without increasing the Maxitrainer fee, which will remain the same.

Coaches' changes

During the course of the survey on coaches we've verified that the main concerns on the part of users were on the increase in salaries and, with the simultaneous decrease in the number of coaches, and a decreased efficiency in training of athletes assigned to each coach since each coach will be assigned more athletes. Not having had a clear indication from the survey that we have proposed in recent weeks, we would therefore like to take this opportunity to propose a new survey. The new survey will have a more limited duration, and some adjustments to "scenario A". As for the salaries, we have studied how to best control the increase by changing some of the parameters in the formula for calculating salary. According to our calculations, the new salary would be roughly as follows: 1) Only primary skill (and of course the specialty) -> 12/12/12 -> -> 14-14-14 -> -> 16-16-16 -> -> 18-18-18 -> -> 20-20-20 -> 2) In a secondary skill -> 12-10-12-12 -> -> 14-12-14-14 -> -> 16-14-18-18 -> -> 18-16-18-18 -> -> 20-18-20-20 -> It should be noted, of course, that these numbers are approximate and as such may be higher or lower based on various parameters (such as the coach) and serve only to give you an example of what the economic proposal will actually be in Scenario A. As for the loss of efficiency based on the number of athletes followed by the coach, this will be decreased slightly to accommodate the resulting increased load that each coach may suffer. We would like to take this news to indicate that these changes regarding the coach specifications are not entirely due to an excessive influx of money or other factors that we have read from your comments, but rather simply to make the coach system more attractive by adding to the game more strategic options that each user will have available. This would help to improve, in our opinion, the overall management aspect of Maxithlon. The exact timing of implementation of these changes has not yet been identified, but in the case of selection of the scenario A, these changes will be spread over a period of approximately 3 seasons.
