Materials used:
Felt sheet (Red) - for transporting.
Elastic strip band (the black strip) - keeps the markers in place.
Cotton string- to stitch the elastic strip band on to felt sheet.
Leather string (Braided) - to tie together.

I believe this was the last thing I made in 2011 for my sister.
Since I started crocheting, I have always made round things. But actually, you can also make square things too. Just takes a bit of time to attach the pieces together. Luckily I found some foamy packaging for the inside, which was perfect for the pins.
I thought I made an Angel Cake, but it was a Neapolitan Cake, they are very similar. But both look equally nice. This is for inspiration for pin cushions. If you can crochet and always make round things, try square next time!~

The cutest cactus monster I have seen since Final Fantasy's Cactuar.
This is Jr. Cactus from Maplestory Adventures.
He has a cute bun on his head which stays in place with his spikes and he wears orange flowered pants.
If that's not cute, then I don't know what is.
Actually, I don't know if its a boy or girl, but it's still cute!

Ok, I used sculpey because I had alot leftover. It did crack a bit and collected alot of dust as you can see in the images, but this was just for fun. I might end up making other monsters but we'll see. ^ _ ^

Mokujin can mimick any other tekken character. He's a block of wood with a soul. ^ _ ^

Tutorial: How to make swirly cream by hand (no tools necessary!) with Fimo Airdry

After making the massive cream, I decided to make a smaller one, just to see how it turns out. Although I already did a tutorial on how to make swirly cream (I was experimenting and still am), I thought I do another one, instead with Fimo Airdry, mainly because it has different properties compared to oven-baked Sculpey or Fimo. I think Airdry is the way forward. The type of sculpting material you use makes a massive difference to your outcome. You can buy Fimo Airdry in any Arty/Craft shops.

What you'll need:
Fimo Airdry
Your hands (people with smaller hands might find this easier)

1. This is what Fimo Airdry looks like when it has just been taken out of its packet.

2. To begin with, simply roll it into a ball. (You can see that it is smooth and dust free!)

3. Now you want to pinch the ball, till you get a thin edge.

4. Gradully work your way around the ball, curving the edges slightly.

5. Sculpt until satisfied with the edges.

6. You might see that there are some gaps or cracks, but don't worry, just dab drops of water and it will fix it.

7. Top view. I made 5 edges because thats how many my fingers could fit through, but you can make more or less.

8. To make it look more realistic, finish the top with a tip that falls back in on itself for a "just squeezed out" cream look.

9. (After water is added) When a tiny bit of water is added, it smoothes out any unwanted cracks/gaps.

10. Top view finished look.

(I will leave the other tutorial on my blog, although I admit, it was a failure, it shows that experimenting and practicing alot will get you to where you want to be.)

My thoughts on:

Sculpting with oven-baked Fimo/Sculpey and why airdry is probably a better option:
Both are pretty similar, although Sculpey tends to be more on the 'too soft' side to be able to stay in position.
It is almost impossible to get rid of dust while sculpting with oven-baked fimo or sculpey. (You can see this dust building in my previous tutorial on the swirly cream made from sculpey. Makes me want to cry T_T)
Overall, Fimo is probably better than Sculpey because it has more of a 'elastic' feel when sculpting it.
While sculpting with Fimo airdry, you can simply wipe the dust off with your fingers and the shape is still intact. It is also lighter than oven-baked fimo and dries rock hard. A bit of water will sort out any cracks and you can sculpt till satisfied.
Well, I have not tried Super sculpey, which may be the better Sculpey to use, if you do choose to sculpt with Sculpey. But when and if I do, I will give my thoughts on it.

Hope this info helps give you an idea when you next decide to sculpt things. ^__^

Massive swirly cream in my hand~

I made a massive cream ^ ___ ^ looks edible but actually its made from Fimo light!
This was my second time using Fimo light airdry and I have to say, it is probably the best type of Fimo I have used. When moulding it into shape, it feels effortless, like when you are building sandcastles. Fimo wasn't lying when they say it's light and it feels soft too! I'll probably be making other things with this type of fimo and I recommend it to anyone else who likes moulding with Fimo to try it!

100x Miniature Heart balloons~

This was an engagement present for a cousin. It was also a commision, glad they loved it. It was specially made for them! The tiny heart balloons reminded me of candles. ^ - ^ commisions can be fun.

Miniature Strawberry and cream Birthday cake with balloons~

This was purely made for 'fun' but was also to test what it would look like if I were to make a cake with cream and fruits. I remade the balloons with wire to give it a more clean look. The cream was the same ones shown in the previous posted blog about making it by hand, although I probably need more practice.
Well, I'll probably be making more cakes just because they are really fun to make! ^ - ^

Tutorial: How to make fimo/sculpey swirly cream by hand.

You've probably seen those tools that squeeze out really cute swirly creams but costs a bit much to buy. I have been trying to look for tutorials in how to make it manually but found none so far. So I thought I try working out how to make it with things that are already at home.

It may take practise to get right, but it saves money and can look just as cute!

What you will need:

1. Fimo/Sculpey/anything you can mould with.
2. A toothpick

(This is my other tutorial on making swirly cream by hand (no tools necessary) with Fimo Airdry, please take a look: http://may-made.blogspot.com/2011/11/tutorial-how-to-make-swirly-cream-by.html)

1. Roll out a pea size fimo/sculpey.

2. With your toothpick, mark the ball roughly at a 45degree angle.

3. Continue towork your way around the ball and it should end up like this.

From another view, you can slowly see it taking shape.

4. Now use your toothpick to mark above the 45dgree angles you just did.

After that, it will look like a dumpling...but its not finished yet!

5. After marking out the lines, go over them with your toothpick, curving it slightly, work on it until satisfied.

For the twisty bit at the top of the cream, simply pinch it and twist upwards.

7. This is how it should look when finished.

You can leave the cream as it is or add a cute strawberry on top like what I did.

For a tasty finish, add some shine on the strawberry. Just use clear nail varnish as usual.

Crocheted Taokaka! From Blazblue~

Technically, I used 2 different methods to make this.

Crocheted: head, ears, body, overall shape of the outfit, hood and arms.

Needle felted: eyes, mouth/teeth, paws, buttons, pigtails, zip pull.

This was an interesting character to make.

I tried to be as accurate as possible. Hope you like it~ ^ - ^

The reference was taken from the short animations called "Blazblue Continuum Shift: Teach Me, Miss Litchi!", look it up on youtube if you are interested.

I will be making mascots/characters here and there, in my spare time.
I am open to suggestions and also commissions, if anyone needs a mascot to go with their cosplay outfit but don't have the time or unsure how to make one, I would be glad to help~

Felted bunnies floating in the River of Wool~

It feels good to try something new. Originally, it was just going to be one bunny floating on a leaf, but then I found an unfinished crocheted ball and attached them together. Somehow it worked well together, so now the leaf is used as a shelter and the crochet part lets the bunnies sit inside perfectly. =D

A little secret from May to You

This is my first tutorial shared with you on how to make a wooden effect furniture out of fimo. I discovered this by accident while mixing chalks with fimo, so technically, it must be a secret?!
Anyways its really easy to do, so give it a try:

This is what you'll need:

1. A peachy colour fimo, light brown chalk, dark brown chalk, something to scrape the chalk with and a tool to cut the wire when putting fimo parts together.

2. Roll out some fimo in to a nice ball.

3. Flatten it down like a pizza.

4. Scrape some light brown chalk on the surface.

5. Smoosh the chalk together with the fimo. You can see it's already appearing abit more like wood.

6. Don't be afraid to add more chalk on and just keep mixing until you're happy with the result.

7. You can leave it looking like this, but if you want more colours add the darker brown chalk.

8. Scrape the dark brown chalk on the surface.

9. Roll it into a ball. You can see that its starting to get those wavy wooden effects. (The trick is to not roll it too much otherwise it ends up as one colour)

To make the furniture, roll out some log shapes and flat circles. You can probably do better than me.

Here is the finish thing. I wanted mine to look a bit more like antique furniture so the legs are swirly. =)

and this is what it looks like underneath. If you want a shiny finish to your wood, you can polish it with some transparent nail varnish (if you don't mind using it on the fimo).

I actually blended the fimo abit too much, but the main thing was to show you how to get that wooden affect. Hope I explained that well enough. =)

Here is an example of what it should of looked like. But hey, nothing ever goes perfect, you just need to experiment all the time.

Miniature Professor Layton!

Since the exhibition, I decided to try some fanart.
As a Professor Layton fan, I was going to get the Rolvotech figurine of him, but after dissapointment of the shipment being delayed for months, I decided to make my own version in miniature style. Luke will probably made later. So Layton will be lonely for a while...In the mean time, watch out for Luke...when I actually get round to making him...

This is a miniature collection called 'I remember when...' which was exhibited at Shoreditch townhall in Aug-Sep 2010 for an exhibition based on 'dreams'.

The idea behind it was to recapture/recreate childhood memories, preserved in jars. The dolls are around half a thumb size...so they were very fiddly and fragile. It was a crazy time trying to put it all together, so I'm glad to share it with everyone.
