Microsoft Office 365 hits iTunes Store

Microsoft’s Windows and Office are world-renowned product though so much of hate going around those products. Now Microsoft Office 365 is launched for iOS. This package includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

Wait, don’t just jump in and download the application. It is available for only Office 365 subscribers or you need to purchase it after installing the app (via in app billing feature). Screens are very much stripped down and can clearly see that its been designed for iPhone in mind. I would say go ahead and use the web app for iPad users.

It is said that the basic subscription is around 10 GBP. Usually apple takes 30% of the cut from the sales in the app market. Or may be Microsoft may have signed a better agreement as things are going smooth between Apple and Microsoft these days. You may remember even Apple announced that the default search engine for Siri would be Bing in future.

Currently it’s available only for US but within couple of days we can get it to Sri Lankan iTunes store too.

Facebook adopts hashtags

Hashtag is a known word among Twitter, Instagram users. Usually hashtags will help you see the relevant categories. Hashtags start with # and a relevant work. So no wonder why people named it hashtag.

Now the elder brother Facebook too jumping into hashtag feature. Last friday Facebook announced that they’ll be rolling out this feature to users. So not all the users will get this feature at a time.

Keep an eye out to see whether feature is available to your Facebook account too.

Tamil Keyboard with iOS 7

Many Tamil native users are often frustrated with iOS due to the system wide unavailability of the Tamil keyboard. To type in Tamil you need to use third-party applications such as Sellinam and then copy paste to where you wanted it to come.

Even Android doesn’t have a native Tamil keyboard but they have an open API for developers to develop any keyboard they wish. As the result there are so many free Tamil keyboards started to show up which catered the user’s requirement to type directly in Tamil.

Forget the iOS and Android comparison, the good news is that, with iOS 7 users will get native Tamil Keyboard. Thanks to Apple for bringing the Tamil support to next level.

Most of the geeks out there must have enjoyed the power of Apple Siri and Google Now. It seems now Dialog Telecom also venturing into something similar to that but into SMS.

When I first heard about it, I wanna try it out myself. I sent out a query asking “Who won the 1996 cricket world cup?” and the answer didn’t come through for about 10 minutes. So it is not something automated, mostly a manual process by human machines?
