Not sure whether I identified it right, noticed these on the road side. They were pretty big. And ugly in a way. And not edible.

Shikra with prey, a photo by Mayur Kotlikar on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
I took this picture last year, 31st Dec to be precise :D
While I was getting ready for work, I heard squeaking of this bird. I rushed to the roof top to see for myself what the commotion was for only to witness this chap with a prey.
Moments later, his partner joined in, but I could not take their picture together.
I have seen female Shikra, picking up snails every now & then during Monsoon and also seen a kill. But this is the first time I saw and heard them communicating.
Its pretty amazing to see these fine birds adapting quite quickly to urban areas.

Male Koel Bird Been Cornered

Male Koel Bird Been Cornered, a photo by Mayur Kotlikar on Flickr.

The entire series is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mayurkotlikar/tags/koel/
This picture is from the initial fighting between to male Koel birds.
This picture is one from the series of pictures I was able to take during territorial fight, which I witnessed over Saturday.
All though I am not sure who was the original resident bird, but the left one did surely loose.
When the left male Asian Koel bird was fighting, I could see the other larger male dominating slowly and cornering the relatively smaller one.
In fact the one on the left, collapsed after 20 mins. of fight, barely able to grab the branch on the way down.
It was stressed out and must have gone through lot trauma but I don’t know why exactly its beak had such color (did he made more injuries to other bird).
My knowledge about birds is very limited, so that all I can observe and conclude.

The victorious bird, did gave a few gestures of victory when it was over.

During Diwali, when my wife was wearing henna or "temporary" tattoo, we were experimenting with a few close ups.
This is one of them.
Only after reviewing this image after many days, I realized that I missed to include the tip of fingers. And by that time, the henna was all gone.

What we were trying to accomplish is to show two deer’s kissing :)
This hand gesture, when used against a light source projecting shadow would make more send though.
The jewelry might be distracting, but mind you, all that glitters is not gold.

The top yellow crispy looking flakes are flattened black gram.
Its mixed up with generous quantities of finely chopped onion, tomatoes & chilly !

It is topped with squeezing lemon over and mixed. The paper seen in the picture is the plate in which its served, talk about recycling eh?

Its named Chana Chor Garam
