श्रीलंकेविरुद्धच्या पहिल्या क्रिकेट कसोटी सामन्यामध्ये शतक झळकाविणारा सलामीवीर शिखर धवनला हाताच्या दुखापतीमुळे उर्वरित सामन्यांमधून माघार घ्यावी लागली. यामुळे तीन सामन्यांच्या मालिकेमध्ये 0-1 अशा पिछाडीवर असणाऱ्या भारतीय संघाला धक्का बसला आहे. दुसरा नियमित सलामीवीर मुरली विजयही दुखापतीमुळे यापूर्वीच मालिकेतून बाहेर पडला आहे.

पहिल्या सामन्यात पहिल्याच दिवशी क्षेत्ररक्षण करताना धवनच्या उजव्या हाताला फ्रॅक्‍चर झाले होते. सुरवातीला झालेल्या निदानापेक्षा ही दुखापत गंभीर निघाली. त्यामुळे धवनला विश्रांती देण्याचा निर्णय भारतीय क्रिकेट नियामक मंडळाने (बीसीसीआय) आज (सोमवार) जाहीर केला. विशेष म्हणजे, अष्टपैलू स्टुअर्ट बिन्नी दुसऱ्या कसोटीपूर्वी संघात दाखल होईल, असे ‘बीसीसीआय‘ने कालच जाहीर केले होते. श्रीलंकेविरुद्धच्या दुसऱ्या कसोटी सामन्यास 20 ऑगस्टपासून सुरवात होत आहे. श्रीलंकेचा माजी कर्णधार आणि अनुभवी फलंदाज कुमार संगाकारा या सामन्यानंतर आंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेटमधून निवृत्त होणार आहे.

other`s legs,the bday parties,the bday bums etc al which they enjoyed so much till now.All they want is a good placement and a ’1st-class’ tag attached to their memo.

नोट्स, प्रॅक्टिकल्स, सबमिशन, त्यांच्या तारखा, लेक्चर्सचे टाईम-टेबल, परीक्षेचे टाईम-टेबल, गेल्या परीक्षेतील मार्क्‍स हे सारे नावडते विषय एकीकडे आणि दुसरीकडे मित्र-मैत्रिणींचे वाढदिवस, उधारीचे हिशेब, फस्र्ट डे फस्र्ट शोचे प्लॅनिंग..काय डोक्यात ठेवावे अन् काय नाही..? कसे काय मॅनेज करणार.? तुमची सगळी कामं वेळच्या वेळी करून देणारी एक भन्नाट गोष्ट..

होमवर्क या प्रकारापासून शाळेनंतर सुटका झाली, असं वाटत असतानाच ट्युशनच्या पहिल्या आठवड्याच्या शेवटी फिजिक्सच्या सरांनी सांगितलं, ‘सोमवारी पहिल्या चॅप्टरच्या नोट्स आहे तशा लिहून आणा.’

आम्ही बुचकाळ्यात पडणार याची त्यांना बहुदा खात्री होती. आमच्या भांबावलेल्या चेहर्‍याकडे पाहत ते म्हणाले, ‘तुम्हालाच सांगतोय. शाळा संपली तरी होमवर्क मात्र संपलेला नाही. उद्याच्या रविवारी दोन-चार तास काढा. पहिला चॅप्टर वाचा. काढलेल्या नोट्स पुन्हा लिहा, नव्या वहीत. सोमवारी सकाळी पहिल्या पंधरा मिनिटांत सगळ्यांच्या होमवर्कच्या वह्या मी तपासणार आहे. होमवर्क केला नसेल तर ट्युशनला येऊ नका. चला आता. पुढची बॅच वाट पाहतेय.’

1. No PlanAs the old saying goes, if you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there. Solution?

Have a personal investment plan or policy that addresses the following:

Goals and objectives - Find out what you're trying to accomplish. Accumulating $100,000 for a child's college education or $2 million for retirement at age 60 are appropriate goals. Beating the market is not a goal.
Risks - What risks are relevant to you or your portfolio? If you are a 30-year-old saving for retirement, volatility isn't (or shouldn't be) a meaningful risk. 2. Too Short of a Time Horizon
If you are saving for retirement 30 years hence, what the stock market does this year or next shouldn't be the biggest concern. Even if you are just entering retirement at age 70, your life expectancy is likely 15 to 20 years. If you expect to leave some assets to your heirs, then your time horizon is even longer. Of course, if you are saving for your daughter's college education and she's a junior in high school, then your time horizon is appropriately short and your asset allocation should reflect that fact. Most investors are too focused on the short term.

3. Too Much Attention Given to Financial MediaThere is almost nothing on financial news shows that can help you achieve your goals. Turn them off. There are few newsletters that can provide you with anything of value. Even if there were, how do you identify them in advance?

Think about it - if anyone really had profitable stock tips, trading advice or a secret formula to make big bucks, would they blab it on TV or sell it to you for $49 per month? Solution? Spend less time watching financial shows on TV and reading newsletters. Spend more time creating - and sticking to - your investment plan.

4. Not Rebalancing Rebalancing is the process of returning your portfolio to its target asset allocation as outlined in your investment plan. Rebalancing is difficult because it forces you to sell the asset class that is performing well and buy more of your worst performing asset classes. This contrarian action is very difficult for many investors.

In addition, rebalancing is unprofitable right up to that point where it pays off spectacularly (think

U.S.

However, a portfolio allowed to drift with market returns guarantees that asset classes will be overweighted at market peaks and underweighted at market lows - a formula for poor performance. 5. Overconfidence in the Ability of ManagersFrom numerous studies, including Burton Malkiel's 1995 study entitled, "Returns From Investing In Equity Mutual Funds", we know that most managers will underperform their benchmarks. We also know that there's no consistent way to select - in advance - those managers that will outperform. We also know that very, very few individuals can profitably time the market over the long term. So why are so many investors confident of their abilities to time the market and select outperforming managers?

Fidelity guru Peter Lynch once observed, "There are no market timers in the 'Forbes' 400'." Investors' misplaced overconfidence in their ability to market-time and select outperforming managers leads directly to our next common investment mistake. 6. Not Enough Indexing
There is not enough time to recite many of the studies that prove that most managers and mutual funds underperform their benchmarks. Over the long-term, low-cost index funds are typically upper second-quartile performers, or better than 65-75% of actively managed funds.

Despite all the evidence in favor of indexing, the desire to invest with active managers remains strong. John Bogle, the founder of Vanguard, says it's because, "Hope springs eternal. Indexing is sort of dull. It flies in the face of the American way [that] 'I can do better.'"
Index all or a large portion (70-80%) of all your traditional asset classes. If you can't resist the excitement of pursuing the next great performer, set aside a portion (20-30%) of each asset class to allocate to active managers. This may satisfy your desire to pursue outperformance without devastating your portfolio.

7. Chasing PerformanceMany investors select asset classes, strategies, managers and funds based on recent strong performance. The feeling that "I'm missing out on great returns" has probably led to more bad investment decisions than any other single factor. If a particular asset class, strategy or fund has done extremely well for three or four years, we know one thing with certainty: We should have invested three or four years ago. Now, however, the particular cycle that led to this great performance may be nearing its end. The smart money is moving out, and the dumb money is pouring in. Stick with your investment plan and rebalance, which is the polar opposite of chasing performance.

Nine things you shouldn’t keep in your wallet

Wallet, phone, keys. That's the check I go through every day before leaving the house, and it's one replicated all across the nation.

It goes without saying that a wallet or purse is vital for many of us. But some of us keep things in there which are not so smart. Here are the nine things you should never keep in your wallet.

1) Your PIN

My wallet has a fair bit of plastic in there. There are a couple of debit cards for different current accounts, as well as a credit card. And they all have different PINs that I need to keep on top of.

As a result, it can be very tempting to keep those PINs written down in your wallet, just in case your mind goes blank when you get to the front of the queue at the ATM. According to a study by MyVoucherCodes earlier this year, around 13% of us do this.

Of course the problem with this is that should a thief manage to get away with your wallet, not only do they have your cards, but also the codes to get their hands on all of your cash!

2) Passwords

Along similar lines, it can be tempting to keep your passwords for your online banking accounts, or even just your emails, in your wallet.

Again, this is asking for trouble as it's basically giving the thief access to your cash, hurdle free! It can be just as bad with email passwords, because the thief may be able to use them to find out all sorts of information about you, and potentially even steal your identity.

3) Your address
Even at my most forgetful best, I've never been quite so bad that I needed to carry around a scrap of paper with my address on it to remind me of where I live.

However, carrying things with your address on, such as certain loyalty cards, can be a risky move, particularly if your keys are in there as well! Not only will the thief know where you live (and that you aren't there) they'll also have an easy way in!

4) Receipts

This is one I'm particularly bad with. Receipts may have all of your card details on them, so even if you've left your cards at home, a thief may still be able to make use of them.

And receipts for high value goods — a computer for example — are important to file away at home rather than carry them around with you, as it can be a nightmare to get a refund or replacement if something goes wrong and you no longer have the receipt!

5) All your cards

You should only ever have as many cards as you are likely to need about your person at any one time. Besides, some cards are not actually designed to be carried around with you at all times.

For example, I used to have a balance transfer credit card. I knew I was never going to do any spending on it — I had a separate credit card for purchases after all. So why would I need to carry that card around with me?

Not only is carrying more than a couple of cards unnecessary, but it will also cause an awful lot of hassle trying to cancel them all if they disappear!

6) Too much cash

When I had my wallet stolen years ago, the thieves went on a spending spree with my cards. Thankfully, the money they spent was returned to me by my bank at the time.

That won't happen if the money they are spending is in cash rather than on your plastic. So only carry as much as you are likely to need.

7) Glasses

On a night out, chances are I'll ditch the specs and wear contact lenses instead. However, experience has taught me that it's a good idea to keep my glasses on me, just in case of an emergency.

I don't have a wallet big enough to fit my glasses in, but plenty of purses are more than big enough for a glasses case. But if you are going to keep some specs on the off chance you need them, make sure it's a spare or older pair — the last thing you need, if your bag is stolen, is to have to shell out to replace your best and most expensive pair! (This advice goes for those of you with designer sunglasses, too!)

8) Chequebook

The humble cheque may have been granted a temporary reprieve from the scrapyard, but the reason it's dying is that it's incredibly rare that anyone ever needs to write one, beyond paying for the milkman or window cleaner.

With that in mind, why would you bother carrying it around with you all the time? It will likely have a stack of your personal details on there, from your address to your account number, so it's a goldmine for an enterprising thief.

Leave it at home!

9) Passport

If you're young and spritely-looking, then you may need to show ID on occasion. But given that many of us will already have our driver's licence in our wallet or purse already, there's no need to lug your passport around too, unless you're headed to the airport.

It's not exactly a cheap thing to replace either (as I've learnt from experience when the DVLA lost mine), with an adult passport costing £77.50 for standard service and £112.50 for the one-week Fast Track service.

पालकांची तक्रार असते की, मुलांना शाळेत शिकवलेलं समजत नाही. कधीकधी मुलंच घरी येऊन सांगतात की, आम्हाला अमुक समजलं नाही, म्हणून लिहिता आलं नाही. पेपर चुकीचा सोडवला की, मग मुलं कबूल करतात की, आम्हाला हे समजलंच नव्हतं. असं का होतं? विशिष्ट विषयाच्या बाबतीत होतं की, सर्वच विषयांच्या बाबतीत होतं? हे आपण समजून घेतलं, तर मुलांना मदत करू शकू.

समजा शाळेत एखादी गणित किंवा विज्ञानाची संकल्पना शिकवली, तर काय काय घडू शकतं?

- एखादी नवी संकल्पना शिकवली की, ती लगेच समजली आणि पक्की लक्षात राहिली, असं नेहमी होत नाही.

- शिक्षकांनी शिकवल्यावर ते समजलेलं असतं किंवा अजिबात समजलेलं नसतं. पूर्ण डोक्यावरून गेलेलं असतं.

- किंवा वर्गात असताना समजल्यासारखं वाटतं; पण नंतर काहीच आठवत नाही.

- वर्गात फारसं समजलेलं नव्हतं; पण नंतर वही / पुस्तक वाचल्यावर अर्थ नीट समजत गेला.

यापैकी एखादी प्रक्रिया घडते.

याचा अर्थ असा की, केवळ शिक्षकांचं शिकवणं पुरेसं नसतं. त्यावर उजळणी झाली पाहिजे. शिकवलेलं पुन्हा एकदा वाचलं पाहिजे. त्यातला काही भाग लिहून काढला पाहिजे किंवा मग मनातल्या मनात आठवून पाहिला पाहिजे. ही प्रक्रिया घडली, तर शिकवलेल्या अभ्यासाचं आकलन झालं, असं म्हणता येतं आणि आकलन हा तर पाया आहे. आकलन झालं तरच मूल परीक्षेत ते लिहू शकेल. अन्यथा त्याला घोकंपट्टीच्या आडवळणाने जावं लागतं.

काही केल्या याला/तिला कळत नाही, असं पालक किंवा शिक्षक म्हणतात. तेव्हा यातल्या एखाद्या पायरीवर मूल अडून राहिलेलं असतं. ती पायरी ओळखणं हे काम घरी शांतपणाने केलं पाहिजे. नेमकी अडचण कुठे आहे हे कळायला हवं. ती अडचण समजली आणि ती दूर केली, तर मुलांना सोपं जातं.

कळत नाही/समजत नाहीचा धोशा लावला, तर मूल तेच मनात घेऊन बसतं. ते बाहेर काढणं अवघड. वाईट गोष्ट अशी की, याला/हिला समजत नाही, असा शिक्काच बसतो, ते होऊ देऊ नये.
