Howth Hillwalkers

Sunday, woke up, not sure what to do, decided to get up out of bed, go into town with my camera and decide what to do then, decided to take the dart to Howth. It was after all a beautiful day. I was brought up to the summit by a good friend Ruth to take photos of the lighthouse and on heading back from the hill I took this sneaky photo of hill walkers in front of us! I dunno I know its dark and what not but I actually really like it for some weird reason, maybe its my mood today or something.

Ok I am trying my best not to put up snow pictures but as I have said I do love the snow and since we seldom see it in Ireland I went a little mad with the camera!

As I have said I love what the snow did to Dublin. Suddenly even Lower Baggot Street, the road where I work, was made look beautiful. Enough Said.

Snow Tracks

Well I have a few more photos from the snow to go this week, I love snow and I have to be honest when it was falling and fresh on the ground it really did make Dublin a much prettier city.

This is another photo from the Smithfield area in town looking up the Luas Tram Tracks, something a little more industrial about this I like.

On Sunday, I was invited to a photowalk with Vodafone as a start to their “Cheer up Ireland” campaign along with 14 other photographers, unfortunately the snow did not show as forecast and instead a thaw had begun from early morning. But we still ended up in Phoenix Park and built a huge snowman and we were certainly cheered up.

This shot was taken from the ferris wheel in Smithfield, looking down on a Luas leaving the tram station.

Winter Wonderland

So this weekend we are being warned of a big snow storm thats about to hit Ireland, well at 8am this morning I looked outside and it was bucketing the white stuff down, so I charged my cameras battery fully up and went out to take some shots. By the time all this was done the snow had stopped but Dublin looks gorgeous at present.

This is a shot of the Grand Canal, taken on Leeson Street bridge, yes its a canal! and has been frozen solid the past week, the difference is now it snowed the canal is now white and stunningly beautiful! I dont plan on skating on it though just yet.

Highlight of 2009

Well its 2010, and to anyone who is still checking this page every so often, firstly thank you for doing so and secondly may I wish you all a very happy new year.

So since I am not on my normal computer for processing images I have no idea what this image will look like, I was going through some of my archived photos trying to find the best thing photography wise that happened for me in 2009, and without a shadow of a doubt, it has to be the 2 opportunities I had to go to Mondello Park to photograph both cars and bikes. Fair play, if you pardon the pun, to John Fair for enabling this to happen. I also had a load of other pictures from last year that are also very dear to my heart but Mondello really sticks out as the biggest highlight.

Anyhow as I say happy new year and yes, for 2010, I do plan on taking AND posting more pictures then the crappy year that was 2009.

Michelle Doherty and Vodafone 360

Woohoo in a first for McAWilliams.com I have an exclusive to show!!!

Well at long last I can put this image up taken a few weeks ago in Fossets Circus when they were in Dundrum. I was invited there by Vodafone to photograph Michelle Doherty an Irish TV presenter and all round nice woman taking part in the circus as part of Vodafones 360 experience of cultural heroes. All around the world celebrities were asked to take part in something they had never done before and out of character. Michelle did what I can only call the rope which is where she climbs up a rope and a person at the bottom spun her around like crazy it was a fascinating thing to watch and from what I have been told, the video goes live today on the vodafone 360 website as part of the cultural heroes section.

Fair play Michelle and thank you Vodafone for allowing me to enjoy the experience too.

Bray On Ice

I was very fortunate to have been asked by the organisers of Bray on ice to take pictures for them during the week. I went down on Wednesday and Thursday evening and was amazed at the work that people had put into this. The ice rink will be open until 10th January 2010 except for christmas day, and if you do happen to live around the area you should try to get down.

I wish them the best of luck over the next month and a bit.



Reflections on the Liffey

So last Sunday I went into town with plans to take some photos of things without people in them, my reason for this? well of late I have felt a lot of the images I have been posting seem to be of people. 
Dont get me wrong people are amazing subjects to take photos of, but I was finding myself getting into a rut of sorts and felt this was all I was able to take pictures of, so Sunday was a challenge.
I failed! but I do love this image taken of the bridge near Capel Street, the reflections of the pedestrians really caught my eye, I do hope you like it too!
