Library closed during winter break

The library will completely closed during the winter break, December 21 to January 4. You will not be able to clear your library fines or obligations during that time. You will be able to reach a librarian for reference help, but the librarian will not be able to help you with fines or fees. You will need to clear your fines or fees before December 21 or after January 4.

Please be aware that outstanding fines or fees may bar you from being able to register.

Illegal P2P file sharing

Are you using the UH network to download and/or share music, movies, TV shows, or software using P2P software such as BitTorrent, Limewire, eDonkey? Do you have legal permission to do so? If the answer is "NO" or if you're not sure, STOP IMMEDIATELY! Downloading or sharing copyrighted information (music, movies, TV shows, software, etc.) without permission is ILLEGAL.

The University of Hawaii (UH) will investigate any copyright violation allegations. Copyright infringers may be liable for up to $150,000 per item infringed upon, plus attorney fees and possible criminal penalties in addition to any UH disciplinary sanctions.

Google Docs

The library's computers do not have MS Word installed. These computers are specifically purposed for accessing the Internet. If you need to do some word processing and do not want to go to Ka Lama Computer Lab or The Learning Center, try Google Docs. You will need to set up a Google account.

Once you have a Google Docs account you can:

Create basic documents from scratch or start from a template.
You can easily do all the basics, including making bulleted lists, sorting by columns, adding tables, images, comments, formulas, changing fonts and more. And it's free.

Upload your existing files.
Google Docs accepts most popular file formats, including DOC, XLS, ODT, ODS, RTF, CSV, PPT, etc. So go ahead and upload your existing files.

Familiar desktop feel makes editing a breeze.
Just click the toolbar buttons to bold, underline, indent, change font or number format, change cell background color and so on.

WebVoyáge

WebVoyáge, the Voyager online catalog web interface, has been completely redesigned. The new interface offers library patrons improved functionalities based on usability studies and the input of numerous focus groups conducted over the last couple of years. The new WebVoyáge “look and feel” with a modern easy-to-use layout.

In addition to the improved look and feel, the new interface incorporates design elements that make WebVoyáge more accessible, as outlined in the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative and U.S. Federal Section 508 standards. Ex Libris worked in close collaboration with the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) as part of the IBHE Web Accessibility Consortium, using the iCITA HTML Best Practices guidelines for accessible design.

MCC chef and instructor, Dean Louie has put together an awesome display of cooking implements and books from the MCC Library cookery collection. Chef Louie is also a graduate student in the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa Library and Information Science Program. He is doing an internship at the MCC Library this summer.

If you had not realized it, MCC Library has a wonderful cookery collection. The collection supports the college's culinary arts program.

$10 or more - you will recieve a Celebration card to send to your honoree

The library is hosting MCC music professor and composer Robert Wehrman's paintings this summer. Polymath Dr. Bob is also the author of the newly published book The unnatural act : rock, rhythm, and blues in the Nam, a memoir about the a soldier's experiences in country during the Viet-Nam War.

Psychology of Color: Blue

Ask people their favorite color and a clear majority will say blue. Much of the world is blue (skies, seas). Seeing the color blue actually causes the body to produce chemicals that are calming.... Over the ages blue has become associated with steadfastness, dependability, wisdom and loyalty (note how many uniforms are blue). People tend to be more productive in a blue room because they are calm and focused on the task at hand. Some studies are showing that weight lifters can lift more weight in a blue gym - in fact, nearly all sports are enhanced in blue surroundings.
