Passed away peacefully January 19, 2012 at the age of 102, after a long and happy life. She was born December 16, 1909 in Summerland, B.C. Predeceased by her husband, Frank in 2005; she is survived by her daughter, Lorna Meikle and son, Douglas (Trudy); grandchildren, Anna-Lisa (John), Catherine (Lonnie), Graham (Nao), Eric (Teri); great-grandchildren Sasha and Audrey.

A Memorial Service to be held Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 1:00 pm at MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson at Vancouver Street, with Reverend Don Hatfield officiating. A reception will follow.

Sylvia passed away peacefully at The Priory on February 5, 2012. After thirty-five years she was reunited with her husband on their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary. The younger daughter of Murdoch and Alberta Morrow, Sylvia was born in the family home at Glen Lake on September 4, 1927. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Michael in 1977 and son Peter in 2010 as well as her sister Margaret Howell and Michael’s siblings and spouses Peter Coleman, Dorothy and John Main, Norah Hardy and Frank Songhurst. She is survived by her daughter Trisha Turner, grand-daughters Ashley and Carmen Rogers, great-grandchildren Michelle and Cole as well as sister in-law and brother in-law Clare Songhurst and Ed Hardy and many nieces and nephews. After their marriage in 1955 Sylvia and Michael left for Prince George due to Michael’s employment with the PGE Railway. In 1959 they settled in Coquitlam and after a decade home raising her family she embarked on a rewarding career with the Coquitlam School District. As was echoed at her retirement she was “The Best School Secretary”. In 2003, after a forty-eight year absence, Sylvia returned to Victoria and enjoyed almost six years residing at The Victorian on McKenzie before declining health necessitated her moving into Care. Born March 30, 1931 in Guelph, ON. Passed away peacefully on February 6, 2012 in Victoria, BC. Predeceased by her husband Dr. David Barnes in 2005. Lovingly remembered by her son Drew (Karla) Barnes, and sister Leona Hamilton. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in Nursing. After a satisfying career, her passion for design led to the completion of a Masters Degree in Landscape Architechture from the University of Guelph.

Passed away peacefully at Broadmead Lodge on February 1, 2012 in her 79^th year. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Born in Preeceville, Saskatchewan on April 19, 1932 she was predeceased by her parents, Hilda and Arne Jenshus, and sister Elsie Jean Jenshus. She leaves her loving husband of 55 years, Norman; children Wendy Skinner (Ken), Brady Gustafson (Maria), Shirley Leggett (Rick), Nancy Hashka (Lloyd), and Carolyn Schaddelee (Jack); and beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also survived by her brother Leonard (Fran) and family.

Ian McMillin passed away on January 31, 2012 in Victoria, BC. He was born October 19, 1950 in Victoria, BC. Ian is survived by his wife Debbie; his children Wayne (Sherry), Angela (Mackenzie), and Tamara (Dylan); his two grandchildren Rachel and Emily; as well as his three brothers Douglas, Ronald, and Michael. Ian worked as an accountant for 33 years for British Columbia Buildings Corporation. Upon retiring in 2010, he enjoyed his days spending time with his family, playing with his granddaughters, and offering his assistance to numerous others in whatever way he could. He also enjoyed auctions, history, and travel. A private family celebration will be held.

The world is a sadder place today due to the passing of Lynn M. Jackson, also known as Sparkle the Clown.

For over 30 years Sparkle was an entertainer of children and adults alike. Through her original music, magic show and balloon artistry, Sparkle was a consummate thespian. With her musical partner Kenan Sweezy, she performed at The Islands Folk Festival, Folk Life in Seattle, Hillside Mall, Clown Fest at Galey’s Farm, and elsewhere. Lynn was born in 1946, at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables Florida when it was a military hospital. She grew up in Louisville Kentucky, moved to Canada and met Norman Jackson in Edmonton. Norm and Lynn have been married for 32 years. For 2l of those years they owned Selkirk Guest House B&B in Victoria, BC. Lynn is survived by her children Rachel Cooper, and Dave and Douglas Jackson, heartdaughter Laura; eight grandchildren; mother – 88 year old Tilly; brothers Robb and Charlie; sisters Lisa and Barbara.

Lynn had Cancer for 4 years and passed away in Victoria Hospice February 6, 2012. A Bahai service at Royal Oak Burial Park in the Woodlands section will take place on February 8, 2012 at 2:00pm. Costumes are optional. Donations in memory may be made to the Cancer Agency or Victoria Hospice.

A celebration of Lynn’s life will take place at Norway House on February 17^th, from 3:00pm – 10:00pm. Please bring musical instruments. Sparkles costumes will be silently auctioned with proceeds to Victoria Hospice. Condolences to the family may be offered below.

Lord, as we stumble through this life help us to create more laughter than tears, dispense more happiness than gloom, spread more cheer than despair. Never let us become so indifferent that we will fail to see the wonder in the eyes of a child or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged. Never let us forget that our total effort is to cheer people, make them happy and forget at least for a moment, all the unpleasant things in their lives. Passed away peacefully on February 1, 2012 at the age of 87 years. Born in Toronto on July 10 1924.

Predeceased by her loving husband Hugh Tyson and grandson Alec. Lovingly remembered by her sister Patricia Anne Hume (Patterson); her children and grandchildren Kathie Csomany (Ron) Stephen, Nicholas, Susan (Richard Pawley), Ian, Tony (Ayami), Tony’s daughter Alissa, Tim (Linda) Meghan, Matthew, Jerry (Eva) Elizabeth, John, Alastair, Thomas, Pam Carbery (Brent) Hugh, Emma, Jaimie (Jina); 3 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Peggy was a fun loving vivacious woman who loved her family, enjoyed her friendships and lived life to the fullest. Peggy served in the Wrens during the Second World War and after many wonderful years raising her family worked with disabled children in the Victoria School District. She was very active in her church and community in both Toronto and Victoria. Her wicked sense of humour, love of travel, golf, bridge, gardening, camping and Long Beach is how she will be remembered.

Visitation will be held at McCALL BROS., Johnson & Vancouver Streets, on Wednesday February 8, 2012 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. Funeral Service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Thursday February 9^th at 3:00pm. Reception to take place in the Chapter Room of the Cathedral following the service. March 22, 1920 – February 1, 2012

Eve, a 3rd generation Victoria resident, was born in the family home “Yaxley” in the Fairfield area and resided there for 88 years before moving to Somerset House in 2008.  She was the only child of William Henry and Gertrude Louise (née Blackwell) Lettice.

Eve was also known as Peggy, Evelyn, and “Lettice” during her school years. She attended Poplars School and was a graduate of St. Margaret’s School, Victoria College, and St. Margaret’s Business School.  Eve began employment at HMC Dockyard in December 1941, three days before the Pearl Harbour incident, at a time when there were only 9 ladies in clerical or steno positions. That situation rapidly changed in 1942.  After 36 1/2 years of employment at the Dockyard, HMCS Naden, and HMCS Malahat, Eve retired in 1978.

Eve always enjoyed sporting activities, including tennis, swimming, curling, golf, and figure skating.  She was a National Figure Skating judge and was an active golfer at Uplands Golf Club for 50 years. In her retirement, travel took her all over the world and gave her many unforgettable and cherished experiences.  At home, Eve delighted in her vegetable and flower gardens and enjoyed the affection and high regard of her Fairfield neighbours.

Eve wished to thank Dr. Houston, Gordon Banta, Marilyn Jessen, Royal Jubilee Hospital, and Dr. DeMott for all their attention, love and support.

October 9, 1917 – January 29, 2012

It’s with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mother Florence in Victoria, B.C. She passed away peacefully and quite quickly at age 94. Florence was predeceased by Kirk Falconer, her husband of 44 years; Earl Hawkins, her partner of 12 years; her sister Alma (Jim) Cartlidge; and her daughter Deborah Jane Falconer. She is survived by her two daughters Karen (Joe Acquafredda) Falconer and Kim (Chris) Nixon; son Tom (Linda) Falconer; granddaughters Erin Falconer, Kelly Falconer, Sheena Nixon and Jade Nixon; grandson Bryce Nixon; and by her many adored neighbours and friends. Mom was a fun-loving fascinating woman and enjoyed everyone’s friendship to the fullest. We will always cherish the memories of our mother, grandmother and friend. Mom will be missed by us all. Our special thanks go to the Ladies of Sidney Senior Care and in particular to Mercy Sagolili for their kind comfort and care. At mom’s request there will be no funeral service, but the family will hold a celebration of her life at a date to be announced later this winter.
