Patrick McHenry and challenger Daniel Johnson agreed on almost nothing during a political forum featuring the two 10th Congressional District candidates and candidates in two statewide races recently.
The candidate forum revealed some interesting views of Johnson's.

He supports raising taxes.

He is in favor of more power for big liberal labor unions.

If elected, he will support the liberal leadership in the House when he casts his first vote for Nancy Pelosi.

He supported the $200 BILLION bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

He continues to affirm that liberal one-term senator from GA, Max Cleland, is his mentor.

He concedes that he has a lot of friends that are [trial] lawyers and that they have donated to his campaign (about 1/3 of Johnson's donors are trial lawyers--most of whom do not reside in the 10th District).

Either he doesn't know how to research federal programs to find out which are effective, or he won't admit when one isn't. There is absolutely no research to prove that Head Start is an effective program. There is clear testimony on record that in general, Head Start doesn't meet its program goals. Of course, it isn't politically correct to say that. The best thing that could happen for the education of our children is for all the money to be pulled out of the Dept. of Education and put into local programs with local accountability.

He supports raising taxes on oil companies to fund research for alternative energies. He does not support drilling for oil or natural gas within NC or of its coast.

My favorite quote from the debate?? Johnson said the district needs “people in Washington who will work together” to find solutions to challenges instead of “clinging to some ideology.”

Clinging to what ideology?? The belief in smaller government and lower taxes? The belief that all life is sacred? The belief that parents know better how to make choices for their children's education? The belief that the 2nd Amendment means what it says? Maybe, like Obama, Johnson thinks we are bitter and just cling to our guns and religion here in Western NC. After all, he is taking a LOT of money from groups that only want to fund candidates that are willing to fight for their liberal ideals. I guess Johnson thinks clinging to THEIR ideology is okay.

We need to keep Patrick McHenry in Congress. He represents OUR values. He fights for US.

patrick mchenry

Patrick McHenry: Fighting for Veterans!

Congressman Patrick McHenry--Leading the way once again to make sure the needs of veterans are adequately cared for. The Community Based Outpatient Clinic will provide health care services for 3,600 veterans in Rutherford, Cleveland and Polk Counties.

With a staff of 25 including three primary care physicians, two psychiatrists and one psychologist, the clinic will provide both primary care and mental health services to veterans.

"I applaud the decision of the VA to make another investment in improving the quality of health care available to our veterans. We must always strive to honor the commitment made to the brave men and women who so nobly serve our country," McHenry said in a press release.

For more information, contact Jerry Thomas, the Public Affairs Officer with the Asheville CBOC, at (828) 296-4446.

patrick mchenry

FACT CHECK: Johnson has a problem with the truth

This came to my e-mail.

FACT CHECK:
Johnson has a problem with the truth

HICKORY – The McHenry for Congress campaign criticized trial lawyer Daniel Johnson for making demonstrably false claims during last Thursday's candidates' forum at Cleveland Community College.

JOHNSON CLAIM: "Patrick, I didn't attack you for voting against the bailout."

TRUTH: On July 24th, Daniel Johnson issued a press release attacking Patrick McHenry for voting against H.R. 3221, the legislation which gave the Treasury Secretary a blank check to begin the taxpayer-funded bailouts of Wall Street financial institutions including Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, who are now under federal investigation. The bill provided no oversight role for Congress and no accountability to taxpayers. Johnson has taken campaign contributions from the finance industry as well as Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank and New York Congressman Charlie Rangel (his largest individual contributor), who wrote the bailout legislation that Johnson supported.

JOHNSON CLAIM: "I don't want to raise your taxes."

TRUTH: Daniel Johnson clearly believes tax increases on middle class families and small business employers must be on the table. Johnson has refused to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, which separates politicians who employ campaign rhetoric about low taxes from leaders give their word to never support a tax increase. Higher taxes on those who can least afford it would devastate the fragile economy of Western North Carolina and dramatically increase unemployment.

JOHNSON CLAIM: "I don't believe in amnesty."

TRUTH: On September 3rd in an interview on WJRI 1340 AM, Daniel Johnson stated his support for a "guest worker program." These are the very same political code words that President Bush and the Democrat-run Congress used when they tried to grant amnesty to 18 million illegal immigrants. Patrick McHenry helped defeat that amnesty bill in Congress in 2007.

JOHNSON CLAIM: "My opponent has consistently stood against providing health insurance for children."

TRUTH: Johnson is seemingly referring to the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). The claim is absolutely untrue. On December 19, 2007 Patrick McHenry voted for the Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP Extension Act of 2007 (S. 2499). This legislation provided the $40 billion that is currently funding the SCHIP program. McHenry voted against a version of that legislation that included a massive tax increase; meaning that Daniel Johnson has now put himself on the record supporting higher taxes.

patrick mchenry

What are Daniel Johnson's Core Beliefs?

One donation Daniel accepted gives a huge eye opener.

According to the FEC, National Cmte for an Effective Congress gave $3000 to Johnson. Who is the National Cmte for an Effective Congress?

According to OpenSecrets:
The National Committee for an Effective Congress (NCEC) is one of the nation’s most politically active independent liberal groups, pooling contributions from across the country to help elect progressive candidates to Congress. Founded in 1948 by Eleanor Roosevelt, NCEC backs candidates who support freedom of choice [ABORTION], separation of church and state, gun control, equal rights, and environmental protection. It advises candidates on virtually all aspects of campaigning, and worked closely with Democrats to have congressional district lines redrawn to their advantage following the 2000 census. (emphasis mine)
What does NCEC say about itself??

today NCEC is a vital force in American Politics. NCEC supports progressive candidates who fight for the issues we believe in, like freedom of choice [ABORTION], separation of church and state, gun control, equal rights, and environmental protection. (emphasis mine)
Daniel Johnson and his supporters have an agenda, and it is not the same as the issues that are important to Western North Carolina. Abortion on demand, no posting of the Ten Commandments anywhere, take away our right to bear arms as preserved in the Bill of Rights, and screw the economy and the people as long as you protect the environment and rare weeds. Basically, Daniel Johnson stands ready to FIGHT to destroy the Constitution and the core values we hold dear here in western NC.

Thank God for the true conservative we have in Congressman Patrick McHenry! We can depend on him to represent US, not liberal values and activists.

patrick mchenry

Patrick McHenry: A Real Voice for Western NC

Conservative Congressman Patrick McHenry has spoken clearly regarding his stand for the workers of Western North Carolina.
Congressman Patrick McHenry joined local employers at a rally and seminar in opposition to the so-called Employee Free Choice Act, otherwise known as “card-check” legislation. The event was hosted by the Catawba County Chamber of Commerce.

Card-check eliminates the right to secret ballot elections for workers deciding whether to unionize in the workplace. Labor unions would now only have to get signatures on a card from a majority of employees to form a union.

“Eliminating the democratic process in the workplace is a serious violation of worker’s rights and a threat to their wages,” Congressman McHenry stated.

The measure is criticized for putting workers at greater risk for harassment and intimidation by union organizers.
On the other hand, liberal trial lawyer Daniel Johnson once again reveals who he really is, and to whom he is really faithful! In a candidate forum in Lincoln County recently, Johnson said he supports the [deceptively named] Employee Free Choice Act:

Even Democrat George McGovern opposes the Employee <del>Free Choice</del> at Risk of Harrassment Act (EFCA)

In comments linked here and in this ad that he sponsored, George McGovern explains why the Labor Unions are wrong to agressively push the EFCA.

Instead of standing with Western North Carolina voters, Daniel Johnson is standing with Barack Obama, who would be all too willing to have the federal government control all businesses and redistribute wealth in a socialist push for his view of democracy "fixed."
“We’re ready to play offense for organized labor. It’s time we had a president who didn’t choke saying the word ‘union.’ A president who strengthens our unions by letting them do what they do best: organize our workers. . . . I will make it the law of the land when I’m president of the United States. . . . ” ~ Barack Obama

Daniel Johnson. I continue to believe that action is needed to stabilize our financial markets but this is not the right approach. For American taxpayers, $850 billion is an enormous price to pay for an experimental plan that can not promise market stability or fundamental reforms to avoid future turmoil.

“The U.S. Treasury has bailed out a number of financial institutions and yet the problem persists. While reasonable people can come to different conclusions, I believe this is evidence that the strategy of taxpayer-funded bailouts is not the most effective course of action. Why then must we continue to pursue the same basic approach that Secretary Paulson has employed with little success?

“Should another round of bailouts not bring lasting stability to our markets, I sincerely hope that we try the approach that I am advocating. We can utilize strategies to fix our markets without requiring taxpayers to bankroll the government’s knee-jerk reaction to take unprecedented ownership of the markets.

“I will continue to encourage the Securities and Exchange Commission to address the root causes of the liquidity problems that have stopped our credit markets from working. I will support initiatives that will allow for a capital infusion into our markets to help create jobs and grow our economy. And perhaps the most important move to restore long-term stability, this Congress must reform failed government institutions, starting with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.”

patrick mchenry

Congressman McHenry Looking Out For Us

The current financial crisis is extremely complicated, and while I have very strong concerns about the bailout, I don't pretend to be an expert on it all. All I can say is, "Thank God someone is looking out for us!"

NC Lawmakers Skeptical of Mortgage Debt Bailout

Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., said a major concern was the amount of taxpayer money needed to finance the bailout. Analysts said over the weekend that the plan might end up costing taxpayers less than $700 billion – and possibly make money – if the government is eventually able to sell enough of the poorly performing mortgage securities for a profit.

"Ultimately, my responsibility is to the American taxpayer - who will be the underwriter of this dramatic proposal," McHenry, a member of the financial services committee, said in a statement.

KEEP FIGHTING FOR US PATRICK!

Food for Thought: Before D.C. In 1999, Johnson, who recently moved from Raleigh to run for Congress in the 10th District, gave Bradley $250 in support of his ultra-liberal 2000 campaign for President.

Contributor: JOHNSON, DANIEL HICKORY,NC 28601
Occupation: UNITED STATES NAVY/NAVAL OFFICER
Date: 11/10/99
Amount: $250
Recipient: Bradley, Bill (D)
(Source: Center for Responsive Politics, http://www.opensecrets.org/)

"Daniel Johnson's political philosophy is coming into focus and the picture is very troubling. Johnson supported Bill Bradley's vision for America: tax increases, gun control, abortion on demand, and massive increases in government spending. Bradley ran as the extreme liberal alternative to Al Gore for goodness sakes," Daves stated.

Equally revealing is a look at who is funding Daniel Johnson's campaign. Job-killing trial lawyers are Johnson's largest group of donors. According to the nonpartisan National Journal, trial lawyers are the largest special interest group in America.

Johnson's largest individual campaign contributor is scandal-ridden New York Congressman Charlie Rangel. As House Ways and Means Committee Chairman, Charlie Rangel is the country's leading advocate for tax increases. Ironically, Rangel's most recent scandal involves allegations of tax evasion. In a disturbing move, Johnson reciprocated Rangel's financial generosity with his support for Rangel's massive taxpayer-funded bailout of predatory mortgage lenders. (Kocieniewski, David, "Rangel Failed to Report $75,000 in Income," The New York Times, September 5, 2008)

Demonstrating his lifelong commitment to liberal leadership in America, Daniel Johnson is now working to elect Barack Obama, who was rated the most liberal Senator in the United States by the nonpartisan National Journal. The Democrat ticket of Obama and Johnson promises tax increases and indefinitely high gas prices.

"What do Bill Bradley, Charlie Rangel, Barack Obama, and Daniel Johnson all have in common? The answer: liberal policies aimed at destroying the economy of Western North Carolina." Daves said.

patrick mchenry

New Letter From Congressman Patrick McHenry

I received this from Congressman McHenry. But for a President, the decisions of great consequence are not made on a stage. They happen in private moments where character and judgment matter most. That's when you need John McCain at the wheel. John McCain and Sarah Palin can guide us through these challenging times and help right the ship of American prosperity and greatness.

"John McCain and I may have disagreed on immigration policy in the past. But for Western North Carolina, the choice in this election is clear. I will work with John McCain and Sarah Palin to challenge the Democrat-controlled Congress to reform government and make it work again for middle class families.

"My opponent says he wants to 'find his place' in Washington. I have a different perspective. I know why I am in Congress, and it's to fight for you. During my four years in Congress, I have challenged both political parties to do what's right by Western North Carolina.

"But this election is not really about me. And it's not about my opponent either. This election is about the hard working people of Western North Carolina who are struggling right now. The fact of the matter is that Western North Carolina can not afford the liberal policies of Barack Obama and Daniel Johnson. The Obama-Johnson plan for higher taxes and indefinitely high gas and home heating prices will only plunge us further into this economic recession."

patrick mchenry

Congressman McHenry Supports McCain ticket

McHenry and McCain now on same page
Originally posted here by ryanteaguebeckwith on September 5, 2008 - 11:18am.

U.S. Rep. Cooperative Extension offered examples of numerous high impact programs in agriculture, horticulture, economic development and nutrition education from Burke, Caldwell, Catawba and surrounding counties.

Chuck Moseley, Cooperative Extension’s State Advisory Representative for the Unifour invited Congressman McHenry to meet with Extension’s advisory members, district and county directors and county extension agents. Greg Craver, Burke County Advisory Chair welcomed guests and introduced Dr. Deborah Crandall, West Central District Director, North Carolina Cooperative Extension and Joy Staton, Volunteer Systems Leaders in the Personal and Organizational Development for North Carolina Cooperative Extension at N.C. State University.

Cooperative Extension programs impacts spotlighted included Caldwell County collaborative projects in soil erosion and storm water drainage and Burke County programs in 4-H and youth development, the Master Gardner’s community gardens, agricultural education in livestock selection, forestry and wildlife habitat establishment; and in nutrition and financial literacy for families. Catawba County, a partner in Extension’s six county Foothills Fresh project, demonstrated impacts of promoting local farms, local foods, and local fun in Alexander, Burke, Cleveland, Gaston, and Lincoln counties. A Cleveland County Extension program assistant reported on the benefits of the federally funded Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program.

Congressman McHenry said he liked seeing what was happening in the district and valued the impacts on people and the economy through Cooperative Extension’s traditional programs, as well as other more recent programs.

<img style="BORDER-RIGHT: 0px; At present, the group consists of 111 local retired servicemen and is headed by Dale Punch of Lincolnton, Past 5th Division Commander of the American Legion.

"From getting the VA clinic built to passing the new GI Bill, the veterans of Western North Carolina have no greater friend than Patrick McHenry,"Punch stated.

Efforts to bring the VA clinic to the 10th District date back to 1992. However, it had gotten stuck in the bureaucratic red tape of Washington.

Upon arriving in Congress in 2005, Patrick McHenry built bipartisan support for a renewed look at the project and met with then-Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson to make the case for moving forward with the clinic.

On June 4 of this year, the Community Based Outpatient Clinic began serving patients in Hickory.

For his work, Congressman McHenry was honored by the North Carolina Chapters of the American Legion and Marine Corps League.

On June 19, 2008, Congressman McHenry helped pass a modernized and more generous GI Bill. The new GI Bill provides qualified veterans with the equivalent of four years of college education at a state university.

McHenry was an original co-sponsor of one version of the new G.I. Bill, which included a provision to allow service members to transfer their benefits to their spouses and children. That provision, a priority for local veterans, was incorporated into the bill which passed the House.

"I'm humbled to have the support of so many brave and honorable American patriots. I'll never stop fighting for the veterans of Western North Carolina. They deserve nothing less," Congressman McHenry said.

The names of the Veterans for McHenry Coalition members are [listed here].

Punch concluded, "I couldn't be more pleased by the outpouring of support from so many local veterans for Patrick McHenry. It's only August and we already have more than 100 coalition members. It's a testament to Patrick McHenry's hard work and results on behalf of Western North Carolina veterans."

DIGG IT!

<img style="BORDER-RIGHT: 0px; Or even a mere debate about energy. The Democratic leadership is stonewalling any measure that might possibly relax the Congressional ban on offshore drilling.”

Congressman McHenry intends to devote the next five weeks to traveling throughout Western North Carolina meeting with constituents to hear their stories of how the energy crisis is impacting their lives.

Throughout August, McHenry will hold a town hall meeting in all 10 counties comprising the 10th District to discuss America’s energy crisis and how we can solve it.

Details of the town hall meetings will be released next week.
**********************

House Dems turn out the lights but GOP keeps talking

House Democrats pulled out all the stops to win a hard fought legislative victory yesterday – prevailing on a dramatic 213-212 nail-biter vote on the “adjournment resolution,” authorizing a five-week summer recess.

DIGG IT!

patrick mchenry

Congressman Patrick McHenry's Liberal Democrat Opponent Supports $3.5 Billion Tax Increase and Liberal NY Rep. Charles Rangel

Liberal Democrat Daniel Johnson shows his ignorance of simple economic policy when he praised the bill crafted by his biggest donor: liberal Rep. Chuck Rangel from New York.

In a fashion typical of liberal press releases, Johnson distorts the facts and misrepresents Patrick McHenry's solid conservative vote on H.R. 3221. Of course, he is helped by his liberal allies just with the name of the bill alone--this bill is more a bailout for unethical lenders than it is a foreclosure prevention bill.

from Johnson's press release at http://www.danieljohnson08.org/release_details.asp?id=65

DISTORTION:

Daniel Johnson, candidate for North Carolina's 10th Congressional District, rebuked Congressman Patrick McHenry's vote against a comprehensive, bipartisan response to the current mortgage crisis. The American Housing Rescue and Foreclosure Prevention Act (HR 3221) passed with support from Republicans and Democrats alike.

THE TRUTH:

Far from a real bipartisan bill--this bill passed 272 to 152--well below the veto-proof 2/3 majority. You can see vote totals here: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2008/roll519.xml There have been many truly bipartisan bills that conservative Congressman Patrick McHenry has supported. But I can guarantee you that not one of them had a liberal sponsor list like H.R. 3221. Take a look at the sponsor/cosponsor list for H.R. 3221 along with their current rating from The American Conservative Union:

Rep Nancy Pelosi - 0%
Rep Xavier Becerra - 0%
Rep James E.Clyburn - 0%
Rep Rosa L. DeLauro - 0%
Rep John D. Dingell - 0%
Rep Rahm Emanuel - 0%
Rep Bart Gordon - 20%
Rep Steny H. Velazquez - 0%
Rep Henry A. Waxman - 0%

It's pretty pathetic when the "top three conservatives" have scores of 16%, 20%, and 33%! Interestingly enough, 1/4 of the list comes from California, and 13 of the 19 have a score of ZERO!

DISTORTION:

[McHenry] voted against tightening mortgage disclosure requirements to make mortgage loan terms more understandable to aspiring homeowners

THE TRUTH:

Congressman McHenry proposed a bill currently before the House--the Mortgage Disclosure Simplification Act of 2007--which would simplify mortgage loan terms for all buyers. Congressman McHenry has taken the lead to fight for homebuyers, but unfortunately, liberal Rep Waxman won't allow the bill out of committee. The reason??? Congressman McHenry's bill doesn't include a bunch of PORK that rescues unethical irresponsible lenders like the bill Waxman just cosponsored with Pelosi.

Apparently, Daniel Johnson is more comfortable supporting the disgusting liberal bills that Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman want than the simple conservative bills that just get the job done.

Western North Carolina voters need to keep Congressman Patrick McHenry in Washington! He really fights for OUR values!

DISTORTION:

"For most Western North Carolina families their most important asset is their home," said Johnson, "We need a leader in Washington who represents homeowners, not subprime lenders."

THE TRUTH:

Wrong Mr. Johnson. We HAVE a leader in Washington who represents homeowners and ALL hard-working taxpayers in the 10th District of North Carolina! Congressman Patrick McHenry has a PROVEN RECORD of voting FOR us, NOT the liberal tax and spenders like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Rangel. Your time working for liberal Max Cleland (whose pathetic lifetime rating from The American Conservative Union of 16% and dismal lifetime score of 0% from the National Right to Life allowed him to get beaten by conservative Senator Saxby Chambliss in 2002) and your time living in Chapel Hill and Raleigh has seriously affected your perception of values if you think that the voters of the 10th District want someone with liberal values like Pelosi and Rangel to represent them!

The more you talk, the more we are seeing the REAL Daniel Johnson. You want Washington to force oil companies to build new refineries, totally ignoring the fact that it is the liberal policies of Clinton and others like him that pandered to liberal kook wacko environmentalists (that actually believe rare weeds are more important than people) that kept them from building more refineries in the first place, and now you reveal that you think wasteful spending that rewards unethical lenders and costs taxpayers a $3.5 BILLION tax increase is a good idea. You actually think that the voters of the 10th District want a rubber stamp voter for Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Rangel and their liberal, wasteful cronies??!!

DISTORTION:
The legislation that McHenry opposed also encourages homeownership among our nation's veterans by increasing the VA home loan limit and by allowing military personnel returning from deployment three to nine months before a lender can begin foreclosure proceedings.

THE TRUTH:

Patrick McHenry has been a REAL friend to veterans. Johnson supports liberal Democrats that just give vets lip service. If Johnson really supported veterans like conservative Congressman McHenry, he wouldn't be pushing absolutely crazy liberal legislation that provides slush funds and rewards for unethical irresponsible lenders.

Veterans have made REAL sacrifices in service to our country, and they want fiscally responsible spending and reform. They aren't so desperate that they grasp for a symbolic concession even if it includes sewage with it.

Veterans in the 10th District know the truth--Patrick McHenry led the fight to finish the battle Cass Ballenger started to bring the Community Based Outpatient Clinic to Hickory. He also pushed hard for a REAL update to the G.I. bill.

Veterans know that Patrick McHenry has consistently voted to have their needs met both while they are actively serving our country, and here at home once that service as ended.

Patrick McHenry consistently supports legislation so America keeps her word to our veterans, and he does it without tax and spend liberal pork-barrel spending laden votes.

Bills Sponsored/Cosponsored by Congressman Patrick McHenry that Give Real Support to Veterans
- H. R. 5825

Last, but not least from this disgusting press release by Johnson...

NOT JUST A DISTORTION OF THE FACTS BY JOHNSON--BUT AN OUTRIGHT LIE:
Congressman McHenry, who sits on the Financial Services committee, was in position to take action before problems in the mortgage industry rose to a crisis level. His failure to fulfill his duties both before and after this crisis arose has damaged the pocketbooks of all American families.

THE TRUTH:

Congressman McHenry has a PROVEN RECORD of consistentcy and trustworthiness for doing the right thing and protecting the pocketbook of all American families.

Daniel Johnson actually believes that the liberal policies of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Rangel are GOOD for the hard-working taxpayers of America! I read his words with stunned disbelief. I hate to say it, but Daniel Johnson is deliberately deceiving the people of Western North Carolina. He is trying to make himself appear like a nice clean cut guy. I commend his service to our country, but gee... either something scrambled his brains after he moved away from the 10th District, or he is just not what he claims to be.

DIGG IT!

patrick mchenry

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://mchenryrocks.blogspot.com/2008/07/congressman-patrick-mchenrys-liberal.html" title="Congressman Patrick McHenry's Liberal Democrat Opponent Supports $3.5 Billion Tax Increase and Liberal NY Rep. The bill passed 272-152, with 45 Republicans voting yes. It is expected to pass the Senate this week.

Should you exercise your veto, the House vote [on Wednesday] indicates we have sufficient votes to sustain it, the letter stated. This could result in revised legislation that eliminates some, if not all, of the extraneous and wasteful provisions, leaving a bill that could gain broad bipartisan support.

Eleven of the 33 Republicans on the House Financial Services Committee voted for the bill, including Reps. Deborah Pryce (Ohio), Michael Castle (Del.), Peter King (N.Y.), Steven LaTourette (Ohio), Judy Biggert (Ill.), Christopher Shays (Conn.), Gary Miller (Calif.), Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va.), John Campbell (Calif.), Adam Putnam (Fla.) and Dean Heller (Nev.). Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite (R-Fla.) did not vote.

At the beginning of the week, Bush had vowed to veto the bill, which attempts to rescue ailing mortgage giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Bush had said the measure's $4 billion allocation for the so-called Community Development Block Grants was unacceptable and that it helped lenders more than homeowners. Bush reconsidered Wednesday following a conversation with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, who urged Bush to sign the bill.

The president would not sign this bill if we had a lot of extra time on our hands, but we don't, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said Wednesday.

The GOP letter states, It truly is unfortunate that we could not reach a compromise on a bipartisan bill that would ensure [government sponsored enterprise (GSE)] safety and soundness and fiscal discipline, because right now we should be doing everything within our power to stabilize the GSEs and our housing markets to avoid the need for an even bigger taxpayer bailout down the road.

The letter was signed by Financial Services Ranking Member Spencer Bachus (Ala.), Reps. Patrick McHenry (N.C.), Tom Price (Ga.), Peter Roskam (Ill.), Randy Neugebauer (Texas), Michele Bachmann (Minn.),Tom Feeney (Fla.), Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Thaddeus McCotter (Mich), Scott Garrett (N.J.), Walter Jones (N.C.), Donald Manzullo (Ill.), Ed Royce (Calif.) and Kenny Marchant (Texas).

Thank you for fighting for us, Congressman McHenry! The hard working people of Western North Carolina can not afford to finance the irresponsible bailout of predatory lenders!

DIGG IT!

patrick mchenry

More Evidence That We Need to Keep Patrick McHenry in Congress!

Hat tip: Carolina Politics Online

Charlie Rangel Big Donor to Liberal Democrat Candidate for Congress Daniel Johnson

Rangel Pays Big for Trial Lawyer Johnson’s Support of Higher Taxes on Middle Class Families N.Y. Congressman under investigation for ethics violation

RALEIGH-North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Linda Daves today called attention to the Federal Election Commission quarterly report of 10th District Democrat Congressional candidate and trial lawyer, Daniel Johnson. Johnson’s report reveals that his biggest individual campaign contributor is New York Congressman Charlie Rangel, who has given $7,000 to Johnson.

Mr. Rangel is the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee which is responsible for establishing tax policy in this country. As a freshman Democrat Congressman, Daniel Johnson can be expected to reciprocate Chairman Rangel’s financial generosity with votes in support of his tax agenda, which includes higher taxes on small businesses, middle class families, and retirement pensions.

“The last thing the families of Western North Carolina need is for Charlie Rangel and Daniel Johnson to enact job-killing tax hikes on small business employers and middle class workers. Western North Carolina simply can not afford trial lawyer Daniel Johnson’s liberal policies,” Chairman Daves stated.

Additionally, Chairman Daves noted that Chairman Rangel recently admitted that he may have violated House ethics rules when he used his official stationery to solicit private donations for a foundation he is building in honor of himself. Rangel is accused of soliciting financial contributions from businesses with a large stake in the tax policies that his committee writes. Even the liberal advocacy group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, is calling for an investigation of Chairman Rangel’s misconduct. (Retter, Daphne, “Begging Rangel Cops to a Mail Dysfunction” New York Post, July 16, 2008)

“By choosing to support corrupt D.C. politicians like Charlie Rangel, Daniel Johnson is already making it painfully clear that he does not represent the values of Western North Carolina families,” Chairman Daves concluded.

Congressman Patrick McHenry has CONSISTENTLY fought against the liberal tax policies of Charlie Rangel! Recently named Hero of the Taxpayer by the nation’s leading taxpayer advocacy group, Americans for Tax Reform, voters in the Tenth Congressional District can count on Congressman Patrick McHenry to keep doing the right thing for Western North Carolina in Washington, D.C.

DIGG IT!

patrick mchenry

Democrat Candidate for Congress Out of Touch with Western NC Values

Still catching up on the news that happened while I was out of town.

From NCGOP Press Release

RALEIGH—In light of Liberal trial lawyer Daniel Johnson's fundraiser today hosted by scandal-plagued Governor Mike Easley, North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Linda Daves called on Johnson to repudiate the Governor's recent junket to Italy that cost North Carolina taxpayers over $170,000.

News reports confirm that Governor Easley, who remains unpopular in Western North Carolina, lavishly spent taxpayer dollars on first-class airline flights, a three-night stay at a ritzy Venice hotel, and a stretch Mercedes-Benz limousine that cost taxpayers $52,000 alone.

On May 21, 2008, Johnson held a fundraiser in Washington, D.C. hosted by the leaders of Democrat-controlled Congress and attended by liberal D.C. lobbyists.

Election reports reveal that Johnson's campaign is being primarily funded by the job-killing special interest lobby of his fellow liberal trial lawyers. A full one-third of Johnson's contributors are trial lawyers.

Chairman Linda Daves, North Carolina Republican Party, made the following statement:

“Let me get this straight. Liberal trial lawyer Daniel Johnson reads one day that Governor Easley wasted $170,000 on a taxpayer-funded European junket and the next day Johnson asks the Governor to host a campaign fundraiser for him? That raises serious questions about Johnson's judgment.”

Daves continued, “Johnson has two options. He can either unequivocally denounce Governor Easley's deplorable conduct or he can sit silently and endorse such abuse of tax dollars and the public trust.

“Liberal trial lawyer Daniel Johnson's decision to align himself with the leaders of the Democrat-controlled Congress, liberal Washington special interests, and corrupt Raleigh Democrats is clear evidence that he does not represent the values of Western North Carolina.”

Johnson apparently doesn't care about the message he is sending to the hard-working taxpayers of the 10th District of NC when he hob nobs with people like Mike Easley. Disgusting.

Thank God we have a REAL conservative and a hard working leader in Congressman Patrick McHenry! He represents OUR values.

DIGG IT!

patrick mchenry

Patrick McHenry Named “Hero of the Taxpayer”

McHenry Named “Hero of the Taxpayer”

WASHINGTON – Congressman Patrick McHenry recently received the “Hero of the Taxpayer” award by the nation’s leading taxpayer advocacy group, Americans for Tax Reform (ATR).

“Commitment and dedication to taxpayer’s interests, has been imperative in the fight against excessive taxation in the 1st session of the 100th Congress,” said Grover Norquist, President of ATR. “These Congressional ratings allow taxpayers to see, when it comes to their hard-earned money, exactly who the heroes and the ‘villains’ are in Congress. It is clear that Patrick McHenry has proven to be a hero.”

ATR double-rates the “Taxpayer Protection Pledge” in all its Congressional scorecards. The Pledge is a written promise offered to every incumbent and candidate opposing “any and all tax increases.” Patrick McHenry signed the Pledge when he first ran for Congress in 2004.

“I have never voted for a tax increase on Western North Carolina families and never will. With a federal budget that is expected to grow to $3.1 trillion next year, there is no reason why the federal government can’t meet its obligations, and then some, without raising taxes,” Congressman McHenry stated.

Way to go, Congressman McHenry!! I'll catch up more later.

Patrick McHenry:Fighting for Energy Independence & Lower Gas Prices

Why are gas prices rising? Supply is not keeping pace with demand.

» In 2007, global oil production fell by 126,000 barrels a day but consumption grew by 1 million barrels a day.

» Global demand is rising largely because of the emerging middle class in China and India . By 2020, China will match the current U.S. oil consumption rate of 20 million barrels a day.

» But the Democrat-controlled Congress is blocking the use of American energy resources, forcing the U.S. to import 59% of our oil.

Patrick McHenry is fighting to overturn federal bans on the exploration and production of America ’s abundant energy resources.

» One day, America will be powered by alternative sources of energy – and Patrick McHenry is working to make that happen.
