My experience as post graduate internal medicine in Madras Medical College

I took RNT udaipur in my first counselling and KGMC Lucknow in my second counselling. you have to join the department during second counselling compulsorily. I spent around a month in KGMC Lucknow.

Then I took Madras Medical College in my home town and came back.
Some differences between north and south that I experienced in this brief period were
A) The concept was very different in the north. They maintained hierarchy of Consultants , senior residents , JR 3,2,1 very strictly.
B) In the north , house surgeons actually don't do much( except few places like Delhi, Mumbai)
It's pretty much the JR 1 who has to do what a house surgeon would do down south.
C) you cannot study much during JR1,2,3 in the north. Work would be considerably more.
D) Down south, house surgeons would do the blood sampling, occasional injections , catheterization, discharge summary.
E) not much clinical teaching though.

Apart from this, regarding clinical rotations, I had a better exposure in all departments in MMC . 6 months in 1 st year and 6 months in 2 ND year was spent in various departments.

Duties were hectic during first year, not much in second year and none in third year. This is in contrast to many places where a 3 ed year PG would be tied down with work and presentations just till before the exam.

They were not very strict in thesis verification.
Case exposure wise, I think it was one of my best experiences, I could see a wide variety of cases. Pretty much everything I read in my book, I was able to see such a patient. Rare cases were common in Madras Medical College!

Department was very cool depending on the unit you were alotted. There is no rotation of units. You are stuck with the same unit for 3 years. In my case I had wonderful batch mates and seniors, so I enjoyed my 3 years. I don't think others would share the same story though.

For all you guys preparing for MCI or NEET PG.....
I would give you this advice
Chose what you like, chose in a good place and enjoy your 3 years. It's important to have a conducive atmosphere to learn and enjoy valuable time of your life.

Internship in India- Tamil nadu Permanent Registration

Hello friends,
I am going to give you the procedure to apply for Tamil Nadu Permanent Registration ( as for FMGE)
The only difference for normal students and FMGE students is that FMGE student's application will be verified once with MCI, it will take more time. Whereas the normal tamil nadu students or transfer candidates will get it faster.

1. Go to their home page - http://www.tnmedicalcouncil.org/

2. You can download the form from the website itself (or)
You can go directly to the council and collect all the necessary documents.

3. In the application form, they will mention That a self addressed envelope is required ,Stamp for rs.22 etc,

(DONT WORRY, you will get everything in the council itself)
The form, self addressed envelope, the small acknowledgement card, the stamps, the challan etc will be available in the council itself.

What you need to take the first time

1. Attested xerox of 10th, 12th, internship completion certificate, NBE marksheet, previous state medical provisional(if you have it), Degree certificate (translations etc), final year transcript (marksheet) etc. Plus a requisition letter.

2. There is no need to carry the originals the first time or the cash of Rs.2500 the first time.

It's location has been changed to a new venue since last year.

The basement area, The place where you see students sitting in the far corner is the place where you get stamps, where you have to pay Challan etc.

View from state medical council. It is situated just opposite to megamart.

You have to go to first floor for the registration purposes.

After You apply -

1. You will receive an acknowledgement letter, a copy of the letter which they would send to MCI.

2. After that they would call you when your degree is verified by the MCI ( a process that may take 2 months).

3. They would request you to come on a particular day.

When you go for the Second Time

1. Carry the originals - all the originals.

2. You will get a challan , Pay it down in the basement area which i pointed out in the photo earlier. You will receive a candidates copy, and council copy.

Give them the council copy and a requisition letter.

3. Requisition letter in this format

handwritten in A 4 Sheet.

4. Either wait till 3.30 pm, or go back home and come back.

Collect your registration certificate.

The small id card will be sent by post to your address.

I got a mail from Mr.Suraj, one of the subscribers of www.clearmci.blogspot.in, regarding the new process of getting your permanent and provisional certificate online.

From what he has told me,

1. It has taken approximately only 10 working days!
(that is by far the coolest thing i have heard in three years since i started this blog)

2. You will get an sms in your phone regarding your application prior to a mail.

3. You will receive an email giving you an login id and password and you can download your permanent certificate.

This is the mail sent to him by MCI

Internship in India - MCI Permanent registration

Permanent Registration

Date applied on - 28th august 2012

Date received - 11th jan 2013

MCI numbers - 011 2536,7033 , 35,36

Registration department - 124 (extension) they may pick up rarely!

Approximate time taken ( for different statuses)
1.Payment verified by accounts ( i paid in person in delhi) - 4 days later
2. MBBS degree verified - 1 month ( entire September)
3. 12th mark verified - 2. 5 months( after pestering a lot in DPI building - DGE)

It approximately took 2-3weeks after 12th mark sheet verification to generate the certificate.

4. Dispatched and received on 11.1.13 in Chennai post office.
5. Delivered - 15th Jan 2013 ( happy Pongal!)

Problems encountered in between
1. Fluctuating status - From approved application to under verification, from degree verified to not verified, etc
2. Not picking up calls.
3. To send 50 rs. DD for verification again ( rarely a cause of delay, many people i know never gave 50.rs DD for permanent registration but was required for provisional)

Solution- Don't panic. Keep cool and keep trying patiently. Main thing is to keep pestering them once or twice in a week.Make sure your process is not held up in School board 12th verification process.

I shall be updating the Tamil Nadu medical council permanent registration process shortly.

MCI Screening test- NEET PG an FMGE perspective

Hello friends,
I was busy preparing and giving this infamous NEET exams.I shall tell you the experience and the mistakes i did so that you can avoid it in your life.

1. Start Early

First and foremost, always start your preparation early. In India , people start their pg preparations around 2nd or 3rd year MBBS. They would have attended 2 or more coaching classes before they join for a coaching during internship and get ranks immediately once they finish internship.
While WE ( majority of us FMGE) probably start our coaching only during MCI screening test times.

Advantages of NEET

Conducted by NATBOARD ( popularly and lovingly referred to as nut-board by many because i think they would have screwed up many students life this time!)
This is the same board which conducted MCI Screening test . So guess What, no difference in preparation for PG and MCI screening test, only the degree of your preparation varies ie:- In case you are thorough even with small subjects (ortho, anesthesia, derma, psychiatry , radio ) you would probably ace in NEET PG.
No more shading , no more OMR. Process of writing exam is simpler. Just for those of you who are in stone age and wondering what the hell is this "computer?" only you guys are going to find it a bit difficult.
Number of seats would increase.

Disadvantages of NEET

MCI screening test was just about passing. So not difficult to get 150/300, but NEET PG is competition. Getting rank is way more difficult.
The scaling system is not easily understandable, and hence unpredictable. For instance a person getting 200/240 in an easy paper will be same as 160/240 in a tough paper. Hard to understand right? that is what i am going trough Right now!

My Experience and my mistakes

I finished my internship in august, but started my coaching classes in bhatia earlier. But i missed few classes due to my internship postings. Overall i got 2.5 months to prepare for NEET pg, since exams got preponed by over a month. ( Normally they conduct AIPGMEE in last sunday of JAN) but this time they conducted in Nov-23th to Dec 6th. Sundays are holidays for NEET PG.

They conducted a DNB exam on 17th - 20th november. The NBE conducts DNB exam just during the time of AIIMS. Everyone who wrote DNB have some advantage as questions get repeated in NEET PG.

Problems faced

Since i did not have my MCI permanent registration yet, and it was required in the documents required to be brought in the test day. Few tensions in getting this matter resolved. Finally understood that it was not required. Attested photocopy of NBE screening test result with the original and MCI acknowledgment number of having submitted was enough.
Preparation time was very less. Had to leave short subjects. Proved costly during exam.

My overall expectations

I have extrapolated my rank to be around 3000, based on my calculations of my mark. If the seats are increased, i am expecting MD pulmonary medicine (thoracic medicine ) at my rank. Which i shall take in my first counselling and wait , to see if i can get second counselling MD gen med. As i said, it depends on scaling of the question paper.

All of you guys try and write DNB exam as questions get repeated in NEET PG. During the 10 days of test, very few questions get randomly repeated.

NDA Disclosure:- BE careful guys, dont get into Trouble. This Will be the END of an ERA for Mudit Khanna and Amit ashish as no more question paper recall can come out.

For those of you who are wondering what NDA is , it is Non disclosure agreement which you have to agree prior to taking the NEET PG and DNB test. You are not allowed to discuss the questions which you have received.

People in small groups are bound to discuss though. But don't do anything stupid to post questions online. At-least if you do be intelligent enough and don't get caught!

NEET PG - Submission of Provisional/Permanent certificates

NEET PG is according to me the greatest controversial topic of 2012!

PROBLEMS everyone faced

1. Only Axis bank provided challans , the que in the banks were longer than one's at Tirupathi!

2. Online site got jammed - centers were not available.

3. Then suddenly the next day, new centers would be opened but those who have applied won't be able to reschedule back!

4. Now coming to new controversy stirred up yesterday - The verification of original MCI provisional or permanent documentation.

( i think only FMGE students will be affected most, as our beloved MCI takes its own sweet time to provide our permanent registration!)

	In terms of the eligibility criteria for appearing in NEET-PG scheduled for 23rd November – 6th December 2012 all applicant candidates are hereby informed that they are required to produce their original certificate of provisional /permanent registration with the State Medical Council (SMC)/ Medical Council of India (MCI) at the test centre before appearing in the NEET-PG (on the date of their scheduled test day). This is in addition to the production of an original and Valid ID as PAN CARD/Voters Regn. ID Card/Aadhar Card/Passport/Driving License on test day as indicated in information bulletin.
	Candidates are required to bring the original SMC/MCI certificate along with a clear photocopy of the same. This photocopy shall be retained at the test centre after verifying the original certificate.
	Candidates who do not produce their provisional /permanent registration certificate with State Medical Council /Medical Council of India will not be allowed to appear in the NEET-PG under any circumstances. In case the certificate of provisional registration has been deposited with the MCI/SMC, an acknowledgement/receipt of the same with photocopy of certificate is required to be produced.
	Candidates who have incorrectly filled in their status of registration with the State Medical Council /Medical Council of India at the time of registration for NEET-PG may be debarred from appearing in future examinations.
Test Day Documentary Requirements: (1) Provisional / Permanent Certificate of Registration of MCI/SMC in original (plus a photocopy) in addition, (2) one original & valid ID document namely PAN CARD/Voters Regn. ID Card/Aadhar Card/Passport/Driving License and (3) Admit Card with attested photo of candidate.

Hello friends,
I know exam (sept 30th 2012) exam is nearing, and everyone would be tensed.

These are a some of the TIPS i would like to share.

GENERAL TIPS:-

1. It's normal that some of you would feel that you have not prepared enough. It's alright to feel scared a little. Everybody has these feelings.

Minimum preparation - Anatomy , physio, biochem, micro, patho, pharmac, ophthal, SPM, medicine, surgery, obg

2. Sleep Well, Eat well. Sometimes, you are too tensed to take these small things seriously.

3. Don't enjoy too much on the contrary also!

4. Don't forget to get your stuff ready - passport, admission card ( in case you have it !!!! don;t get tensed, you will receive it in last week usually) good pen plus an extra one . Be casual, they will take videos as a part of verification.

5. Plan for eating in break in between, because you won't be rushing to eat food in canteen in your center if your paper goes horribly in the morning session.

Specific TIPS

1. Don't cheat in exam. And worse still :- don't get caught cheating!

2. Relax if mind goes blank, you will start remembering once you start relaxing.

3. Subjects to concentrate on

Well here friends, there is a hell lot of difference between PG and MCI screening test. Read below

MCI screening test - Subjects

Preparation ( before exam)

Concentrate on basic subjects , (Minimum preparation - Anatomy , physio, biochem, micro, patho, pharmac, ophthal, SPM, medicine, surgery, obg )

Leave the short subjects if you haven't prepared for any ( derma, psychi, radio etc)

REVISION is the key. Without revision, chances of passing drops ( unless you have memory like an elephant/ or photogenic memory)

1 day of revision is worth 4 days of reading new stuff.

Should have nice resources -

1. Coaching class notes( your own or anyones)

2. Question papers for practise

3. Broadband internet connection to verify

4. Don't see videos ( USMLE/Najeeb) when you have exams very near.

5. One Should never make a mistake in repeat questions. Should score maximum in repeated questions.
