Penn State failed miserably in sad Sandusky case

I was following Sandusky - Penn State story when I chanced upon the article below. Joe Paterno, the Penn State coach is a revered coach. He has been coaching Penn State since I was in the US (early 80s) and he is one of the successful football coaches in NCAA.

It was sad to see his career ended this way.

Note to my MCOBA Cagers head coach (Azran) and myself: We need to learn from this episode.

"Abusive coaches will test the waters, but if you put up any sort of resistance, they'll back off." Remember that you can say no to an adult, because this is one game a coach should not be playing.

MCOBA Cagers are playing in the ongoing NCBL (National Community Basketball League). This is our the second year we are playing in this league. Last year we didn't make it to the second round. This year, Alhamdulillah, we managed to improve ourselves a step better by qualifying for the second round.

It has been a tremendous and challenging 8 years since we first started (31 August 2003). Now my time is coming to the end due to unavoidable circumstances. Not the best ending but I'm thankful (syukur alhamdulillah) for the excellent closing. Abang's batch and team created history by becoming the MSSPk District Champion (which my team failed to be during my playing years), regain the PHT (my team did as well in 1981) and Abang became the MVP (no award during my playing time).
My sincere thanks to all Quest-4-Glory supporters, to the trust and hope given to my family as well.
I'm hoping to write a full report of my story, how it began and to the tumultuous ending.
I was looking for an appropriate video and stumbled into this one. Not appropriate but it will do for now. Enjoy, I did.

Cagers won their first game against SMSTMFP, Kelantan 43 - 18. They started badly, again. Missed their shots and made unforced mistakes. They lost the first quarter 6 - 8.
Luckily they managed to regroup in the second quarter and played good defense to hold Faris scoreless in the 2nd quarter. They Cagers build a big lead at the half.
Some starters were rested at the start of third quarter. The second team took over and maintain the pressure. Razzin played well to control the offensive board.
Overall Cagers need to start better and pressure the opponent. Next game against SEMASHUR..
Update:
Cagers won against SEMASHUR 45 -21. The first game jitters are gone. Cagers took off flying at the jumpball. They pressured SEMASHUR into making mistakes and execute their offence superbly. Abang and Hisyam began hitting the threes. They allowed SEMASHUR to only 1 point in the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter, Cagers continued the good play to frustrate SEMASHUR further. They lead by 25 points at the half. Second team took over at the second half and managed to play as well as the first team.
Cagers were group champ and grouped together with SMS Kuching and SEMSAS in the second round
Update:
Cagers continued the good start against Kuching. Danial exerted himself early to send a warning to Kuching. Abang and Hisyam continued hitting the threes. Iqbal did the damages inside quietly. Apes was flying in from the left for easy lay ups. They overwhelmed the defending champion early. Cagers led by 25 point at the half. The second team took over again in the second half. This time they couldn't match the scoring power of the first team. However they managed to match SMS Kuching basket per basket. Final score Cagers won 44-22.
Next game against SEMSAS.
Update
Cagers started sluggishly after playing the best game in the tournament against defending champion SMS Kuching last night. They just couldn't get going, luckily they defended well. They led 7 - 6 after 1st quarter. The Cagers couldn't shake of the sluggishness and continued their slumber in the 2nd quarter. They managed to lead 20 - 16 at the half. The captain struggled to inject some life into the team. The pep talk during half time didn't seem to be effective. Cagers managed to nurse a slim lead 34 - 28 after 3rd quarter. 2 mins left in the fourth quarter, Cagers led 41 - 32. A miscommunication between the manager and the players. The manager persuaded the coach to leave the Cagers' bench, after replacing the first team with the second team. The second team couldn't handle the pressure without the coach on the bench. They crumbled and SEMSAS scored the last 12 points within the last 2 minutes to win 44 - 41.

Cagers advising each other during the last timeout against SEMSAS, a minute and a half to go.

It was the worst game for the Cagers in the tournament after being left coachless in the last minute....Luckily they've won with a big margin against SMS Kuching so they can afford to lose this game with a small margin and still top the group.
SEMIFINAL
Cagers started cautiously against SEMASHUR after playing the worst game earlier in the morning against SEMSAS. Hisyam and Iqbal played well in the first to keep the Cagers ahead 23 - 17. Danial took over in the second quarter to keep the lead 43 - 25. Cagers struggled when the second team played in the 3rd quarter, despite a tremendous effort from Razzin. The lead narrowed to 58 - 42 after 3rd quarter. Razzin continued his superb rebounding to keep the Cagers on front The second team managed to keep SEMASHUR at bay to win 81 - 56.
FINAL
Cagers (Hisyam, Apes, Iqbal, Abang and Danial) started well against SDAR Iqbal dominated the inside game against the bigger SDAR players with his fakes and turning. Cagers hit 3 3-pointers in the quarter (2 by abang and 1 from Hisyam). Cagers led 15 - 10 after the 1st quarter. Cagers struggled in the second quarter. The main players were in foul-troubles trying to contain the SDAR players. Abang managed to hit 1 3-pointer in the quarter. Cagers led 28 - 23 at the half.
SDAR began closing in during the 3rd quarter. Luckily for Cagers, they managed to hit another 3 3-pointers (2 by Abang and 1 from Hisyam) in the quarter to keep SDAR at bay Cagers led narrowly 42 - 41 after the 3rd quarter. SDAR managed to regain the lead temporarily in the 4th quarter. All of sudden the Cagers started to hit 3-pointers to frustrate SDAR whenever they took the lead or closing in. The Cagers managed to hit 6 more 3-pointers in the quarter (4 by Abang and 2 from Hisyam), including 4 consecutively. SDAR couldn't answer the 3-points barrage from the Cagers. SDAR used their size well to keep the score close by scoring inside freely when 2 main Cagers, Razzin and Danial, fouled out. Abang was playing with 4 fouls in the last 5 minutes. Final score Cagers 65 SDAR 58.
Cagers created a record by hitting a total of 13 3-pointers in the game (more than the Lakers in their game against Mavericks). The most ever by Cagers in the history, with Abang hitting 9 of them and Hisyam 4. It was a good final game. Abang was chosen the MVP for the tournament.

Cagers lost the final tune up against NAVY by 14 points. However the coach was satisfied with their performance despite the loss. They played against the tough Sailors and managed to give a good fight despite the big difference in age and size.

Several players are recovering from minor injuries and overall the team is ready to quest for glory again......

As the 2011 KK Champion, 9 Cagers plus 3 Tsung Wah boys were selected to play for KK in the MSSPk tournament.

KK District lost to Kinta Selatan 29 - 42, Lost to Batang Padang 31 - 42. Lost to defending champion Kinta Utara 34 - 35.

The games were played 7 mins non stop per quarter (just like the Nationals in Seremban). It was a good experience for them and hopefully they will learn from their mistakes.

MSSPk 2011

9 Cagers are selected to represent KK District in the MSSPk tournament this year. They are:
Abang, Hisyam, Iqbal, Danial, Openg, Apes, Nabil Pian, Razzin and Sharimi.

The tournament will be in Grik starting this weekend.

This would give the Cagers 2011 good exposure and practice match for their ultimate challenge: To regain the PHT. It is still the tournament for them.

Cagers will be going for their FIRST KK District championship in Sg. Siput, insyaallah.

First game is at 8:30 am today vs SM Tsung Wah (Private) and 2:30 against SM Shing Chung.

Update: 30 March 2011

Cagers are at the brink of their first KK District Championship! They have defeated Tsung Wah Suwa 53 - 25 and Shing Chung 41 - 32. They only need to win against Tsung Wah esok. Shing Chung has beaten Tsung Wah by 8 points in the morning.

Update: 31 March 2011

Cagers 2011 did what previous Cagers failed to do, they are the KK Champion after beating Tsung Wah Secondary 35 - 27. Cagers first MSSD KK District Champion, finally....

Now, they have to do what previous 13 Cagers did, win the PHT! All the best boys. Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the sky!

Friendly vs Sam Min, Teluk Intan

Cagers lost their friendly game against SMJK (C) Sam min, Teluk Intan 48 - 71 on friday 25 March. It was a good exposure and experience playing against the full court pressure. The Cagers learnt a few lessons during the game: how to execute a good pick and roll, handle the full court pressure and playing without a proper coach (The coach was in KL, attending a personal business).

They will be playing in their MSSD this coming week, hopefully they will manage to win the ever elusive District Championship! Good luck boys.....

Received the Piala Hamdan 2011 schedule from Medi 84 (thanks a lot, Medi).

Cagers were grouped together with SEMASHUR and SMSTMFP. This is the 3rd consecutive year we are grouped together with SEMASHUR. Cagers lost in 2009, won twice in 2010. This year would be interesting. For the first time in Q4G history, we have a good average height of Cagers 2011. Most of them are taller than me ( I must have shrunk with age!). They have 4 of them can touch the Ring! Previously we have 2 at the most (correct me if I'm wrong).

Now they have to prove their potential on the court. All the best Cagers 2011

Notes from KK, part 2

The Cagers are behind schedule in training due to the raining seasons in KK, however they would not have much trouble qualifying in the coming north zone, insyaallah.

If ANY oldboys were to disturb the training program, the coach is willing to discuss in the nearby squash court. Bring your own gloves, ya. Be aware!!!

I'm just writing down all the comments from KK for my own record. Please don't hate me.....

HKSBP North Zone 2011

This year's HKSBP North Zone will be in SMS Bagan Datoh from 9 - 11 March 2011. Went to recce the place on the way back from KK. There is nothing there in Bagan Datoh. It's going to be a hot tournament, weather wise.

Must be brand new courts, two of them!

Annual CNY Camp

The Cagers will be having their annual CNY camp. This time it will be in KK. The Cagers will go back home on Friday, 28th January. They will report back on Sunday, 30th January.

Cagers' trainings are way behind schedule, hopefully this CNY will make it up.

Hopefully the Cagers will do the annual Keris run on their own this year. All the best and enjoy the camp, guys. We will be there in spirit and just a phone call away.

The KK District X-Country Champion 2011 - the Malay College

Cagers 2011 participated in the recent MSSPk KK District X-Country 2011 at SM Bukit Mercu. U18 category, Iqbal came in 1st followed by Md. Syafiq Ihsan in 5th and Zulnurain in 6th. U 15 category, Syahmi Munir came in 1st, Nabil Aiman 6th and Syahmi in 10th. Overall MCKK became the district Champion. Congrats Cikgu Badri, the New PK Koku, on his first KK District Champion and we pray there will be more to come.

Not bad for the Cagers, running at 65% of the ability. Be prepare when they will be running at 100% :-). 6 Cagers represented in the U15 category and 3 in the U18 category.

Malaysia International High School Basketball Tournament 2010

The schedule

Cagers will be participating in the Malaysia International high Schoolasketball Tournament 2010 in Port Dickson from 29 - 31 December 2010. 4 teams will be playing, 2 from Malaysia and one each from Indonesia and Singapore. Cagers will be sending the U17 team. Hopefully they can match the other U18 teams.

This will be the last tournament for Cagers 2010.
