EYWC Wrestled Areas at Corry this past weekend. The top two wrestlers in each weight class advance to the PJW State Championships in Wilkes Barre PA. next Friday and Saturday . The top 22 wrestlers in the state will battle for a gold medal. EYWC advance 11 wrestlers to represent our AREA VIII and here they are.

Hadley Harrison pinned his way to the finals of the National Collegiate Open this past weekend and secured his 100th career win in the process. Harrison took runnerup honors, losing only to Penn State’s David Taylor in the finals. Hadley came in to the tournament ranked 15th (up two spots from last week).

Hadley also scored a 10-2 major decision over Seth Creasy in Friday’s 33-9 dual meet win over Lock Haven. Good luck to Hadley Harrison at EWL’s and Nationals.

Clarion University senior 157-pound wrestler Hadley Harrison (McKean - General McLane) was named today as the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) and EWL (Eastern Wrestling League) “Wrestler of the Week” for his performances last week for the Golden Eagles.

Harrison, rated #17 in the country, had an impressive 3-0 week which raised his season record to 31-7, while pushing his career win total to 95, just five wins short of the coveted 100-win plateau. His wins also helped Clarion to impressive wins over North Carolina (25-19) and Cleveland State (49-0) on Saturday night, along with a 28-8 loss to #18 rated Pitt on Thursday.

With our success this season we have been chosen to compete in the District 10 Dual meet championships at Edinboro’s McComb Fieldhouse on Tuesday (2/2/10). Wrestling will begin at 5:00 with the semifinals pitting us against Prep and McDowell against Corry. the winners will wrestle in the finals at 7:00 with a trip to the PIAA state duals on the line. This is a great opportunity to support the team locally in a very important event.

• 4:00-wrestling begins.

Friday’s wrestling will consist of only pigtail rounds and preliminary rounds of the championship bracket (winner of Prelims is done for the evening). Consolations will be ran through the round of 16 on Friday night

Saturday 1/30/10

• 7:00-Team departs from hotel
• 7;30-Weigh ins
• 9:00-Wrestling begins
• 6:00-Finals begin

Saturday’s wrestling will begin with both, Quarter Finals and the continuation of the Consolations followed by the Semifinals and the rest of the consolations.

It has been a while so I have a few season happenings to catch up on. Sorry to those who check the blog often.

Prior to the Clearfield duals Dalton Lester was named as our Third Team captain. Congratulation on a well deserved honor. Some things are worth the work and Dalton has worked for this.

The team finished the Clearfield Duals in 4th place and saw many outstanding efforts. Tim Wheeling and Dalton Lester went undefeated on the weekend at 5-0. Matt Campbell once again wrestled great in a backup role and earned a 4-1 record. Dalton, Tim and Travis Bryant all avenged previous losses, Travis’ win over Clearfield’s Andre Buck was a rematch of a loss Travis suffered at last year’s regional tournament. First year starters Parker McDermott and Kyle Kuntz both showed that they are ready to compete at the varsity level posting 2 solid wins each. Zac Baumgartner, who was nursing a severely sore shoulder, chipped in with a win and solid leadership in the two matches that he wrestled to fill in one of the three forfeits that we were suffering do to various injuries. Caleb Baker was impressive on the weekend, even in his loss to his state ranked opponent from Greenville, opening up on offense and pushing an aggressive pace on his opponents. This style will translate into many postseason wins.

A very solid and inspiring 36-26 team victory was earned against McDowell on Wednesday (1/27/10). It may have been the first time that our lineup has wrestled that well from top to bottom. The team Expected More for themselves and the received it. Congratulations.

Congratulations to Coach Cook for posting his 75th Head Coaching win against Bradford at last weekend’s Clearfield Bison Duals. After Wednesday’s exciting 36-26 win on the road against McDowell, he now has 76.

Coach Cook now stands as the fourth winningest head wrestling coach in McLane history. Only three McLane head wrestling coaches have more career wins.

1. Coach Steve Samol (1965-75/100 Wins)
2. Coach Tim Mulholland (1986-88 and 1994-2004/137 Wins)
3. Coach Gil Troutman (1979-86/80 Wins)

Coach Cook’s teams have averaged 12.66 wins per season since he took over the helm in in 2004-2005 (the highest per season wins average in GM history).

The magic, #100 is not far off.
