Me and my Nokia C3

Network no longer available. WLAN not working now?

I keep receiving this message from my phone when I try to connect to my home network. My situation may be different from yours, so there is no suresafe way to recover from this bad problem.

1. Is your phone software the latest?

My previous version was 04.4.5 RM-614 , 04-08-10. Yu can check yours by selecting Settings/Phone/Phone Updates from the Main Menu.
Now it outputs

If you have not done so, install the latest Nokia-Suite on your Windows OS. Google for Nokia_Suite_webinstaller.ALL. The current version is at 3.848.

After installing the Nokia Suite software, first be sure to full charge your phone! Attach a microusb cable to phone and computer. Then from Nokia Suite, select Tools/Software updates. The updating may take a lot of time as it will try to save or backup your messages, photos, contacts etc. then will update your phone software.

AVOID turning off or on your phone during this process and ignore any Windows warning about disconnection of phone. Your phone screen may go blank during this process more than once. Be patient, it may take more than 30 minutes for the whole backup and software updating process.

After Nokia_suite tells you it has finished, then it is SAFE to remove the USB cable from phone and computer. Turn on your phone
and it will feel perceptably faster. However I still get Network no longer available when trying to connect to the WLAN. Do not get mad at this stage.

Upgraded to the newest Ovi Store?

I opened my Store app today in my C3 and was surprised that it was asking me to replace the 3.22.0 version with version 3.30.2! I pressed Yes and I got a warning "Application Source differs from original. Continue?", I pressed Yes again and my phone was downloading store app in under a minute.

Opening the app and going to Applications took a long time, I even forgot my password. I will be back again, but it really pays off to upgrade to the latest stable version. Some people simply use Nokia to avoid the insecurities in the larger Store App market for android phones!

Dont panic when your contact lists are gone!

It happened NOT to my C3 but to my new cheap C2 dual-simmed phone. The contact lists were gone, or was emptied and were not displayed on the screen.

What happens usually is that the battery is almost totally drained. Almost since you can still access the phone screen. Remove the battery at the back, and place it back again. Then fully recharge it before use. The contact lists will be back. So don not panic, like resorting to actually removing the sim cards.

The Nokia C2-00 is a basic phone with the VGA camera, bluetooth communications and dual-sim capability as the major features. However the model I got has no external card slot which should be able to accomodate 32 Gbytes micro SD cards, in contrast to published information from online sites! grrr.

I got mine at the SM Annex at SM City for 2350 pesos. I thought I could use an external micro SDHC card. NOt! Anyway my purpose was to use my two SIM cards, Sun and Globe which were rendered useless by my broken glass iTouch (there goes my P4,000!) phone.

It has this nifty feature to record FM station broadcasts, which is missing in the C3! Of course this is not an overwhelming reason to buy the phone!

How to determine the IMEI number of your Nokia phone

I just bought a new C2-00 basic phone for P2350 at SM Annex at SM City, Quezon City. The guy was helpful enough to show me when asked how to get the IMEI number, handy in case you lose your phone and want to block its use by the one who found it. Not that the C2-00 is worth stealing, it is relatively cheap, but it is Nokia branded.

The numbers are also imprinted just below the battery compartment, but the numbers are too small to see.

Type *#06# on you cellphone. It should automatically display the results!
but I am wondering why I got 2 numbers, then realized that it has two SIM cards.

There is no relation between the IMEI numbers with your SIM cards.

IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity number and supposedly identifies your phone on the GSM, WCDMA, and iDEN mobile , as well as some satellite phone networks.

You can use it to tell your carrier to block the phone in case you lose it, rendering it useless, but criminals have learned and have the tools to change the IMEI numbers! But better save it for future use.

Basic C3 model still going strong surprisingly in the Philippines!!

I bought the original C3 at P5,700 pesos at SM Annex. Now you can get the C3 for 1000 pesos less. The greater affordibility translates to more buyers of this basic QWERTY keyboard input mobile phone from Nokia. the C3 is rather top heavy, but comnes with wifi, bluetooth connectivity. Unlike the two touchscreen phones (at 4000 pesos) each which died on me(screen cracked), the C3 has survived many times it was accidentally dropped.

Perhaps the sane mobile phone buyer in the Philippines is not impressed by the newer Android powered mobile phones?Some would rather buy an N8 with its high quality camera. The Android phones are just out of reach or are too expensive to buy at the moment.

I only wished a newer C3 upgrade should have dual SIMS.In fact I am planning to buy a basic dual sim phone to have access to more than one service provider,.

I am still looking for a replacement scientific calculator for my warm old Nokia C3. Perusing the Nokia Ovi Store I got the following listed softwares:

3. BMI Calculator Free

There is no advanced scientific calculator for my Nokia C3. Come on, it is ridiculous that I still have to lug along my TI-89 or HP-50g graphing calculator with me. :(

Lost your wifi functionality? It may be battery related.

I was wondering why my Nokia C3 indicates full charge in only a few minutes after I connected it to my charger and how fast it drained after use. It also affected my wifi connectivity.

But recently the lithium battery recovered, and is now properly charged. It now lasts longer than one day and I have my wifi connection back.

If you are impatient you can buy an extra battery to test the functionalities of your phone. I am just happy that I have the battery working properly again and the wifi functionality back to normal.

Are you able to install the Nokia Browser?

I was trying to install the Nokia Browser from Ovi for my C3 phone. Unfortunately, I got the message

Unable to complete installation. Download file again.

I did this 3 times and still I got the same install error. My microSD card is a whopping 8Gbytes! Wonder if someone successfully installed this browser?

January 2, 2012: It is now installed and successfully launched. The version is at 1.8.0.50.5

November 18, 2011. I am currently updating my OVI store from version 2.40 to 2.18.0! Will tell more after the update.

As usual I have forgotten my password and the password change/notification program is not that error free. The Nokia C3 failed to accept my new password! Well, I will try again some other day.

The call logs are hidden inside the Contacts icon so press Menu/Contacts/Log

Under this Logs we have

All calls

Missed calls
Received calls-phone numbers (if available from the network) of received calls .
Dialled numbers - view the most frequently dialed numbers.
Message recepients - view phone numbers of recepients of sent messages.
Clear log lists - clear log lists , CAUTION in using this feature.
Call Duration-duration of all recent, received, dialled and all calls calls.
Data Counter - number of bytes of sent, received latest sessions and connections.
Packet data timer- duration of packet data connections and lets you reset the timers.
Message log - [sent|received] [texts |MMS] messages
Positioning - adjust positioning settings, view positioning requests.
Sync log-details on synchronization events

So who just called us? choose received and missed calls.

And whom did you call recently? choose dialled numbers.

How do I create Notes in the Nokia C3?

This phone has five types of notes apps with calendar integration, namely,

Reminder
Meeting
Call
Birthday
Anniversary

These are all available in the calendar application by pressing Option/Make a note.
When the date/time arrives the user will be automatically informed or alerted by the phone that
a note has been triggered.

But what if you just want to write a note like a file wihthout calendar integration, i.e,
notification? No problem! Click on Apps, select Notes (You need to scroll down to see it), it is
after the To-do list.

Here are some menu selections under the Apps/Notes menu:

Make a note	create a new note
Delete	delete current active note
Edit	edit the current note
Use detail	copies Number\|Mail address\|Web address for later pasting.
send note	send as messgae or send via bluetooth
delete all note	this is dangerous, so use with caution.
memory status	why it is in Apps/Notes is anybody's guess.

From the 1 hour commute in the school van to the events in the school, each day offers a varied experience.

We are fortunate that we have modern digital cameras, even the ultra-portable phones like the Nokia-C3. Photography as a hobby is now at almost no cost, it still requires a little dedication and a little sensitivity to take meaningful photos.

Rather than pressing Options/View photos after shooting with the phone camera, a more efficient way to view immediately the photo just taken would be to click on camera mode, Options/Settings/Photo Preview Time to "End Manually", the other settings being "no preview", 3, 5, 10 seconds.

If you want to take the next shot, Just press New. This is more efficient.

Will the Nokia C3 be upgraded?

The C3 seems to be a winner for Nokia. It has gained a wide following around the world as it is one of the few affordable branded cellphones with Wifi capabilities. I just hope Nokis will upgrade the hardware, especially its camera. It should have a flash and have more pixels. Here is one photo taken with my C3.
