Linux programmer for MRI medical software (Key West, FL)

This is more like a "fix".

Here's the scenario:
Philips Marconi Eclipse 1.5 running Red Hat distribution.

Using VIA 2.0 Scan Suite/2.04 ECD.

Here's the challenge:
Want to burn CDs DIRECTLY from the workstation.

Presently, unable to burn CDs directly from scan workstation.

As it stands, the only option would be for MRI scans to exported to a second machine running eFilm, where CDs would be burnt.

But then in order for patients to view their own files/scans, on a THIRD machine the CD would have to be used to create a second CD and a copy of eFilm lite.

Looking for someone familiar with the medical softwares and technologies involved to enable the Marconi workstation to burn CDs, preferably that patients can then view on their own.

I'm looking for someone competent with drupal to make some cosmetic (not functional) mods to a website. It is an old web site which I recently had converted to drupal. The developer is a friend. He stays covered up. For a variety of reasons, he is unwilling to work for me for pay, but at the same time, has bigger clients that demand all of his available time. Rather than pester him to death, I thought I'd investigate finding someone to complete what he started.

He migrated my klunky HTML mess to drupal, with an integral blog. The site works just fine, but requires cosmetic mods. I have two .pdf documents which I will provide that show the desired end product and a stock photo that these are based upon. The playground people have been building playgrounds for 2 years now. Initially one person, the Playground People has grown into a full time playground building organization with 14 playgrounds already finished with another 10 to be built in the second half of the year. We are now in a new phase of our growth where we need someone to continue this work with the project manager but specifically to document ‘who we are’,‘where we have come from’ and to share this with stakeholders, funders and most importantly other groups around the world.

Using local sustainable materials the Playground People is a community based organization (soon to join with world education consortium) that designs and builds creative and fun playgrounds in the migrant schools surrounding Mae Sot on the Thai-Burma border. The Playground People are an energetic, non-hierarchical, creative team that works hard to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget without losing quality or creativity. The Playground People comprise of a coordinator, a construction manager, local workers and lots of energetic international volunteers. We work closely with other organizations to ensure our work is fair and caters to the needs of the schools and most importantly, the children. The Playground People believe in the power of a good education, playgrounds encourage learning for children in many areas that are left out in a standard curriculum such as creative thinking, communication, problem solving and conflict resolution. The Playground People are looking for an energetic person for a 7 month position (extendable) to document and maintain the playground building program starting in June 2009. This role requires a confident, self motivated person to work closely with the construction manager to continue to produce excellent playgrounds and although this role would require a large portion of time committed to actually planning designing and building playgrounds, the focus of this role is documentation. The position will involve bringing all the learnings and knowledge we have gained together into an efficient, organized package. This will include producing a fun and engaging playground people manual (in English), monthly reports/ newsletter, adding news and stories to the website for funders stakeholders and the public.

I'm an individual looking for a Rails developer to implement my vision for a web application with small amounts of AJAX. The spec is written and the XHTML templates are complete. A lot of the Rails infrastructure is already in place, as is the Postgres db the app will be using.

You'll be doing the part of the application that provides the core end-user experience; all user authentication, billing, administrative back-end, etc., is being done separately.

Typesetting/Copyediting/Proofreading (InDesign CS2) (Internet)

We need someone to take multiple badly-formatted Word files and lay them out to make 6-8 24-page InDesign documents, for both print and online PDF distribution.

We have examples of previous ID documents to use as templates but no formal style sheet. (There will likely be several iterations as we hammer out a formal style sheet.) The work is mostly text with some placement of dingbats/borders. We will provide all necessary fonts.

You should be someone who is comfortable working independently and who is willing to take initiative. You must have significant experience with InDesign and superior English-language skills. Being a nitpicky grammar nerd is a plus, as is familiarity with other Englishes (British, Australian). You should also be comfortable setting work with lots of special characters.

This is a key engineering position that requires the ability to problem solve and communicate clearly in a highly creative and sometimes intense working/learning environment. Your primary activity will be to provide support to the Banff New Media Institute's Advanced Research Technology (ART) Mobile Lab in its ongoing research activities. This position reports directly to the Director/Executive Producer of BNMI, but receives daily direction from the Senior Mobile Researcher. You will act as the technical lead for the ART Mobile Lab in all areas, including in-house software development projects, collaborations with external artists and partners, research of emerging technologies and platforms, usability research, technical evaluation, proposal writing and dissemination. In particular, you will be responsible for developing software applications for a variety of mobile devices using GPS, wireless internet, cellular network and sensor input to drive creation and playback of rich-media content, cross-platform user experiences, and other mobile and location-based interactive installations. This is a 10 month term position starting June 1, 2009 with the possibility of extending.

Responsibilities

* Accountable for the technical aspects of mobile and locative media research and development and coproduction activity of the BNMI’s ART Mobile Lab.
* Work as the primary engineer on a mixed-discipline team, and facilitate the specification of the technical development process. Accountable for the Open Source development of the Mobile Experience Engine (MEE)
* Manage ongoing unit-testing, bug-tracking, feature-tracking and build system
* Prepare new applications for large-scale beta tests including installation, documentation and training of users
* Code library façade elements in Java, C++
* Develop and test platform-neutral facades into platform-specific APIs and code libraries
* Translate application designs into XML
* Develop XML schema and XSL stylesheets for converting designer-friendly specifications in XML into XML meeting the Mobile Experience Engine (MEE) schema
* Develop XSL stylesheets for generating SVG-based visualisations of applications for review
* Responsible for managing a Linux (Gentoo) web server, Samba file sharing and performing regular system backups. Work outdoors setting up and testing mobile and location-based applications and installations in all mountain conditions – rain, shine, or snow.
* Provide consulting services and advice to visiting artists, designers and project collaborators with variable levels of technical knowledge.

Qualifications

* Bachelor of Science or better in Computer Science or Engineering is required
* 5+ years of experience working with Java programming, Web programming including PHP
* Must have good knowledge of Java, JavaME, C, C++, Linux server administration and management skills, platform knowledge with Netbeans and Websphere, Python, C#, JavaScript, PHP. Knowledge of Symbian and competence with XML, XSL and XML Schema would be an asset Previous experience developing mobile applications involving Bluetooth and Wireless connectivity. Knowledge of JavaME (CLDC and MIDP2) is essential. High level of competence with embedded programming or small device programming.

Needed: PHP/CSS/JavaScript/MySQL tinkerer to turn some off-the-shelf WordPress applications into a unified thing of beauty. Immediately.

We're launching a web site for people to discuss and analyze some legal documents that have been in the news. No, not the AIG bonuses, but something that dense and that ought to be of the same public interest. There are a few people who understand how things fit together, and we want to turn them into a real community. The new site will bring them all together in one place on the web, have them share knowledge, mark up the legal documents with close commentary, and make it all explicable to the general public.

We're building the site around WordPress plugins. CommentPress lets users have threaded discussions about individual paragraphs within a post. bbPress supplies us with discussion forums. We'll also have some blogs and static pages. We'd like a wiki. And, oh yeah, the site needs to launch within a couple of weeks.

Right now, things are functional . . . but they also feel functional, rather than welcoming. There are unwanted scrollbars and ungainly, misshapen text-entry fields. The CommentPress and bbPress sections look nothing like each other. The different login interfaces aren't all integrated. You get the picture. There are a bunch of little things that are getting in the way of usability, and the site has zero personality. We've got a graphic designer working on a logo and basic branding, but we also need someone to do the web monkeying.

Could that someone be you? It might well be if you . . .
