RA to track RSS market through Fall (Philadelphia)

I am a professor at a business school studying entrepreneurship. I am looking at the way in which the sunsetting of Google Reader is creating an opportunity for new ventures. Observing what pops up, and when, and what business models they follow, will be both interesting and help us answer some important questions about how new players enter the market and how markets are segmented.

So, I want to find an RA or two who would want to help me put together a list of companies/products in the RSS space, when they enter, what features they have, etc. and to track the space through the fall. We can go through details, but it will essentially be keeping up a spreadsheet on the subject. I would like to find people who care about the space, or about the products in it, and who are up to speed on the RSS world.

This would likely take a few hours a week, every week, through Fall. I have research funds available to pay at hourly rates (RA funds, so better than Starbucks, but not by that much), and I hope that I could also make the research useful and interesting for those interested in academia or, potentially, an MBA.

I have a cheap Dell laptop (Studio series). The screen recently broke while I was in another city. In the process of replacing it, one of the wires connecting the power button became brittle and broke. The tech didn't have time to order a new button (I was flying out the next day) but said it should be fairly simple for someone to replace.

I'm trying to squeeze a few more months out of this laptop as I can't afford a new one right now. (And the 30 minute time limit on the Brooklyn public library computers is killing me!)

I need a personal/portfolio site (anywhere)

Hi, I work as a writer and editor and 'm looking to get a website built so potential employers can see my work and resume/CV.

A little more information: I don't need my site to be real fancy, just clean, professional and easy for people to see what I have done.

I would need a homepage that connects to downloadable CV access (click here for) and three other areas/pages: one for journalism work samples, one for corporate/technical samples and one for ecommerce samples. I would need for those files to be downloadable, too.

I am not a designer, but a thought that the samples pages might have to have short descriptions of the work samples (that I would write) and small images that can be clicked on so visitors can read and download the things I have written. In my line of work, it is essential that people be able to download the files.

I'd be grateful if people could let me know what they think, share estimates of time and costs and if possible, access to their portfolios. Thanks! Oh, I have no idea what would be reasonable to pay for something like this, hope you can let me know.

Driver/chaperone from hospital (Wedgwood to UW and back)

I am participating in a study at UW. I will be getting an upper endoscopy, and will be sedated. I will not be able to participate without having a driver. I need to be at the hospital by 8:30 am on May 22nd, and they say I will be there for 2-3 hours. I just need someone to take me to the hospital, wait there, and then take me home.

There will be no real hospital care, and last time I had one, my wife was available for the ride. I walked myself to the car afterwards, proceeded to pass in and out of consciousness, but still helped give her directions home, and walked myself inside without being carried. This should be a pretty stress free way to grab a few extra bucks for not much work. I will pay for any parking fees associated as well.

Also, I am in the process of trying to reschedule. If I can, I will not need any assistance, but I wont know until I hear back. Over the past two years, a Django programmer and I have built a pretty great Web site that I think has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, neither of us have design skills to speak of.

The programmer has pulled back from the project due to health issues, and I'm left with a great idea, a butt-ugly site, and neither the skill to design a better version, or to implement that design in a Django environment. So I'm looking for 80% designer, 20% Django-savvy person.

I've got a great handle on what's needed, and a very detailed set of needs and parameters -- clarity won't be an issue. It would take a 10-minute Skype session to tour the site and show the designer what's needed, however -- many of the site elements that need work can only be seen/experienced through use.

2-5 hours of statistics (multinomial logistic regressions using R) tutoring over Skype (or UK phone) (over Skype audio or UK telephone)

I am a sociolinguist working on a quantitative analysis of language preferences by MeFites for my PhD dissertation. I've been using Andy Field's book Discovering Statistics Using R, to learn about multinomial logistic regressions. I could use a few hours of statistics help (~2 hours initially and more over the next two weeks) in answering some very specific questions about my data and these statistical tests, as well as my interpretations of the results (or the errors I'm getting instead of results).

You would not be doing my work for me in any way...I cannot stress that enough! This is guidance towards understanding statistics better and a sanity check on how I'm proposing to go about (or have gone about) things. I have done a lot of reading on statistics and have made several attempts in logistic regressions -- I'm more than willing to do any additional work on my own, as I really want to understand this stuff! I'm at a bit of an impasse right now though, and could use to talk it through and listen to some fresh ideas, advice, etc.

I am advertising this on MetaFilter because you have all helped me in the past in so many ways, and a MeFite would be well familiar with MetaFilter which makes it easier to understand the project and focus on the stats. TriplePundit, a media platform for the conversation on sustainability in business, is seeking an experienced online course builder to create a platform for offering online courses to sustainability practitioners. Courses will include sustainability reporting, sustainable marketing, carbon markets and other courses TBD (but you don't need to have knowledge of these topics to be the successful candidate).

Platform should include space for:
- Self-directed study through PDF with weekly assignments
- Q&A forum with teachers and other students
- Live and recorded webinars and youtube videos (software TBD)

Stray Boots is hiring a front-end web developer at our urban games / mobile-guided exploration startup -- a modern-day coder who strikes the balance between Getting It Pixel-Perfect and Getting it Done. And if you're also a talented designer, even better!

You'll maintain and develop the interfaces for our gameplay, e-commerce website, and content-management system. We're developing new features (such as a user account panel), making our existing site responsive, and bringing our mobile web gameplay interface up to closer parity with our iPhone app -- so there's plenty to do and no shortage of variety. There's even a full site redesign in the works in the foreseeable future. You'll be just the fourth member of our web team, and you'll have tons of say in how we build our website and the mobile web interface to our games.

Skills & Requirements
- HTML and CSS
- Concise, semantic, and maintainable markup and selectors
- Progressive enhancement
- Responsive layouts
- Javascript, especially w/ jQuery
- Able to handle cross-browser compatibility in major desktop and mobile browsers
- Ability to integrate with a server-side templating system (in this case, Django's)
Bonus Points for:
- Mad design skillz
- HTML5, CSS3
- Experience with LESS or other CSS frameworks
- Experience with CoffeeScript
- Experience with a client-side state management framework such as Backbone.js
- Experience with Comet/WebSockets/Reverse AJAX
- Not intimidated by Python
