Sikkim Manipal distance (SMUDE) online exams & the word untrustworthy

SMU, DE exams for MBA were supposed to be held in January 2012. Last week of December they postpone it to mid February 2012. Later in January I came to know the exam was preponed to 10th Jan 2012 and will be held in online form. Nice of them to let me choose date and time with a couple of flexibility.

On 9th Feb 2012 at night got an sms alert ‘Due to technical glitch the exams on 10th will not be held”. Alright these things happen.

My next exam was on 13th. After a day another sms “Technical problem continues. Exam cancelled till 15th”. Thanks for alerting.

Then again the same and all exams till 18th are cancelled.

On 18th there website reads ‘All problems have been resolved’ and exams will conducted as per schedule from 19th onwards and new schedule for cancelled exams will be published shortly.

On 19th I went to exam center where I managed to find a single person inside a hidden house like school. Who informed that all online exams at this center have been cancelled and now offline exams will be taken.

Why can’t they simply write on their website the correct information. Rather than wasting my time and money. The website says all online exams will be held as per schedule from 19th and here I find the opposite.

I understand problem occurs once, twice, not everyday. I always found the SMU good and recommended it to others. But they proved themselves down and untrustworthy.

Either they appointed some lazy fellows to organize or were afraid to tell the truth that they can’t upgrade.

Its time they understand there are working people who mostly prefer distance education and cant afford to change schedule the way SMU thinks.

In between these changes, I had to cancel two trips, multiple reservations and a month got wasted.

Tata Docomo Chat support synonym for f*ck off

I am facing problems with a Tata Indicom fixed wireless terminal which was switched off for months. It’s in grace period. Incoming working fine. Balance nil and can’t recharge.

Went to local dealer. He said Tata Indicom is dead. It’s rebranded to Tata Docomo. Ok Fine!.

Tried recharging with multiple amounts. All failed. Dealer got no idea. Suggested me to call customer care.

Calling 121 sounds continuous ‘network busy’ like the number is banned from customer care service.

Checked their website. Happy to see online chat support.

Clicked on live chat option. Inputted my name and number and here comes an error. Their live chat does not support my browser (firefox 9). In fact they don’t support any new browser like Firefox 9 & Internet Explorer 9. But do support browsers that no more exists. Amazingly a telecom company want’s me to degrade to access their live chat support.

Found a solution. Changed default user agent in firefox to ie6 and it worked. Greeted by a guy within 2 minutes. I am impressed!. Told him the problem. And guess what! the reply was like icing on cake.

Sir chat support is only for GSM services. Plz contact customer care at 121. The only word in mind is ‘fu*kers why can’t you mention it when I clicked on live chat’. You had me click on a big disclaimer but forgot to mention what’s needed. Nice waste of my precious time.

Lastly I have emailed the customer care. Hope they address the problem.

The International universities in US have already reserved their matching .xxx domain names to keep themselves safe from embarrassment of being used in an adult .xxx web site.

The Indians are yet to take step on safeguarding their colleges and universities names.

Irctc.co.in certificate error; do not panic

Indian Railway’s online reservation web site “irctc.co.in” is showing some certificate errors.

There is a problem with this website's security certificate.

The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address.
Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

Is it concerning. No..

What are certificates?

-> Certificates or say Digital certificates are authentication, proof that the website you have opened is genuine. These are issued by authorized companies. These certificates contains the details of the organization.

Why is this error shown?

Look at these two site names.

www.sushantgarg.com

Do you notice any difference. Second one has ‘www’ in it. In internet terms, these two are different sites.

Irctc.co.in has its digital certificate registered for “www.irctc.co.in” only and once you open “irctc.co.in” without www, your browser detects it as threat.

Normally a website manager will redirect ‘sushantgarg.com’ to ‘www.sushantgarg.com’. Type ‘sushantgarg.com’ in browser and see it redirects to ‘www.sushantgarg.com’.

Sooner or later the guys at IRCTC.CO.IN will make changes.

What should you do?

Simple, just type www.irctc.co.in in the browser and use it without the certificate errors.

An idea = 1 domain . Lots of ideas = 100’s of domains. Save money on renewals.

Whenever an idea comes into mind a domain name is registered. Lots of failure ideas and my portfolio crossed 200 domains. Its only this week I came to know that I own these many domains.

I have been carelessly managing the domains all spread through various registrars, most on auto-renewal.

Here’s what I used to do when I had to register a domain name and save money on renewals

Google search for best offers, jump to some middle page like 5 or 6 to get best offers. The top search results mostly have some terms and conditions.

Its easier to find big registrars and their discount coupons on social networks.

But the smaller sites are ones that saves me money in long term. Its just a trust thing with them, I like them though!

Domains don’t need much management. Nowadays every site offers free DNS management, free email and other tools to manage your domain.

Once you find the best offer, try twitter and search for a lower value than your current offer. Use #hash #tags for quick results. It has always worked for me. Many sites come forward with such limited time offers.

Satisfy yourself with fact that you got the best price this industry can offer.

When renewal came I again repeated the above steps, this time searching for best domain transfer offers.

About to expire.

Lately one of my domain or should I say a valuable domain was not on auto-renewal and it got expired. Thankfully I noticed it while it was in ‘Pending Delete’ status. Didn’t want to take a risk, Signed up for backorder and yes it was back in my box. Costed me some heavy bucks.

Its time to get organized.

So I decided to create a list of domains I own. Surfing through dozens of control panels, my spread sheet was ready with over 200 domains. The first thing that came in my mind was, Fuck! I am wasting so much money on these domains.

Unlocking BSNL EVDO AC8700 usb modem

I have been using BSNL EVDO since a year. Many people have asked me on how to use BSNL EVDO data card (AC8700) with other CDMA operators.

The below content applies to BSNL EVDO data card model AC8700 manufactured by ZTE only. I have tried to put details, still may have missed as I am in a hurry to leave for somewhere.

First of all almost all BSNL EVDO data cards are unlocked. However you may face an issue of not detecting the T-SIM card.

To solve this:

Time Needed: 10 minutes max.

1. Download the DFS software from http://www.cdmatool.com/Download.aspx (Its free)

2. Install the software, its basic install. Do not start the software now. If the software is on you can close it.

3. Connect your BSNL EVDO modem AC8700 and start the DFS software now.

4. Click on ‘Ports’ on top left.

Look for ‘ZTE Service Port FFFE (Com??)’. Double click on it.

Your modem should be listed as in above image. If not try double click again on the ‘ZTE Service Port FFFE (Com??)’.

Close the ports screen and get back to main screen. It should be like in the image below:

5. Check the second line on top left. The Icon before the Port name on top left is green or not and the ‘ZTE Service Port FFFE’ should be listed.

Important: Don’t change anything else than what is mentioned here.

The SPC box by default has ‘000000’. If not put ‘000000’ in it. And then click on SPC button.

You will see ‘DEVICE Unlocked’ in the bottom screen.

In case it shows ‘BAD SPC VALUE UNLOCK FAILED’. Double check that SPC is ‘000000’ i.e 6 zeroes. Still its shows error means SPC is different and needs to be hacked. Which is easy and I will write about it later. My guess is you wont stuck here.

6. Now go to ‘Programming Tab’. by default it shows the “General sub tab’

In the Config Box on right side click Read. It should display current settings in the respective boxes.

In the ‘Ruim Config’ box select ‘Ruim Pref’ and click on write.

By selecting Ruim Pref, now when you insert a T-SIM in the modem, it will start using the SIM and once you remove it, it starts using the inbuilt settings of your home operator. Here BSNL.

7. Click Reset on the right top side on software. Close the software.

8. Test it and let me know if this worked for you. Do ask if you face any problem.

Till today I haven’t received the products. Neither have they replied to any of my emails or messages sent thru their site. I had sent dozens of them. Xkey 360 was a pre-order and by the end of october it was available at almost every online and offline store.

I paid them using alertpay.com and now plan to file complaint against them. Their no reply attitude clearly shows their website is fraud.

I got cheated and hope you don’t. Its definitely a scam site.

I started driving scooters when I was like 15. Advancing from scooters to commuter motorbikes. It was in class 11 when I reached the full throttle. Every day after school me and my friends drove to an unknown destination nearby. We just didn't care about the roads or where it will lead to. I drove Hero Honda CD-Dawn and my friend had a Splendor. 2 bikes 4 persons and destination unknown. We visited almost every land in a 100km radius. We climbed hills, crossed rivers, covered long stretch.

We had seen things people call as freaky. Snake eating people to the extremist hidden in deep forests. Many times we had glimpse of wild animals. We crossed by taboo like temples. Still in this era there are places ; small ones where people are afraid to go and as the locals call them "its forbidden, its cursed".
Amazingly we always balanced the gap between religion and reality.
Time to join college and here comes the panditji who brings bad news of my future claiming me to die in a motor accident. Fuck motorcycle, fuck cars because the pandit says so. The same pandit who when something bad haapens claims its god's will. And at the same time shows ways to alter the future.
My days of motorbikes takes a big break. Had to join a college in another city. For a person like me addicted to motorbiking, surviving without any vehicle was hard. And so it happened. A year and a half travelling in busses, auto rickshawas was more painful than being in an accident. I quit the college in second year.
Back to home.
It was during class 11 itself I got my hands cleared on cars. Since the motorbike is out of reach , I hoped on to car. Not so boring but still missing the fresh beat of a motorcycle my life continues.
Till today I am on a car waiting for Panditji's curse to end and return to the world of motorcycling.

In between these times the hopes and wishes to enter the motorsport gets crushed. May I get chance later.

Reservation at lower levels ~ Rich vs poor

We have been talking about Aarakashan (Reservation) in colleges, politics, jobs this week. Prakash Jha has definitely brought a hot topic in his film.
Amazingly most of my friends have different opinions. I stand for reservation at lower levels and completely remove it from upper levels like in college, elections, jobs. Why not give the lower and underprivileged casts and communities an opportunity to send their children to schools basically elementary and upto 10th with certain benefits. Putting reservation at college level sucks. In my city the MLA seat is reserved for Dalit. How does one anticipate that the Dalit can do more good to us specially to Dalits than a general category person.

A common saying that rich people don't understand the poor's life. Isn't the opposite the very same. Poor would never understand the rich's life. Problems are in both life. The way we frame reservation its like the general category people are rich and all Schedule casts/tribe and OBC are poor.

Not all is wrong. Like the age limits for SC's and ST's are little higher. Let it be. Mostly people from villages and smaller areas join schools, colleges late than most of us have.

The song 'We dont need no education ' just came in to my mind. The next part of the song was to save the earth. Similarly we dont need no reservation to make India great.

Let everyone have a chance to show their talent, show what they deserve.
Let people decide who should be elected rather than kicking out competitors as they are not ST or SC.
Let colleges have a single system of intake.
Let jobs be open to all.

Put reservation at lower level in schools.
BTW I am categorized as OBC by Govt. Still I prefer not to entertain the benefits of being OBC.

Psychological slave: Beg & pray

Past few days I have been filling quite a lot of forms related to local and central government. I feel pity to see the words like “beg” & “pray” used in forms & applications. This shows that the forms were made in slave era. Why would I beg or pray to any government agency to do what their job this. Amazingly few lawyers still use these words in their crappy applications.

Stop using such fucking words. No one needs to be begged or prayed to do their job for which they are already paid for. A simple word like ‘request’ is suffice. The words beg and pray have quite a strong meaning. Both the words should be kept aside to be used when a life is at stake or incident of similar circumstance.

Angrez chale gaye still their Psychological impact remains intact and our Indian minds are unable to make those bloddy rules and feelings extinct.

It may not be right on legal view. Still I modified those bloddy forms and erased the fucking words “beg” & “pray”. Hopefully someone point out the changes I made and then I can appeal on humanity grounds and make this change permanent. I wouldnt dare to appeal directly since these govt. employees posses too much power and I am already on the hit list for my regular RTI & questions posing threat to their job security.

Another issue added to my long list of changes to be made. We are a psychological slave.

Which phone * Why I dont like iPhone & Android OS

Its time to change my mobile phone. From last few years I have been degrading the mobile status. From windows mobile to symbian to cheap old nokia; it kinda sucks now.

Asking around what mobile to buy. People highly recommended two phones.

1. Apple iPhone 4

2. Samsung Galaxy S II

I have seen and handled both the phones from my friends and not at all impressed me. iPhone 4 is too expensive for its worth. Galaxy S has a nice touch screen but the android os limits you too much. In both the phones one is limited to a few customizations only.

I was using Galaxy Tab and what the hell. One pays 30k INR for they knows why? For reading e-books, watching movies or surfing internet. Dont say you got a phone too. hahaha. Better get a aftermarket Chinese android devices for 6k INR or their windows 7 device for 15k INR. Even it runs for a year it is better than the Tabs & worth value. One good thing of Galaxy Tab is you can load full linux distro like Ubuntu on it.

Yes we hear about lakhs of iPhone & android apps. Seriously that is all I want. No way.

I remember having HTC Prophet some 5 years back running windows mobile 5. That phone did had a low processor and ram if compared to todays, still I couldn’t find these android and iPhone to be as customizable as windows mobile 5.

It was 5 years back I had wifi hotspot facility, I used to download watch movies, music, play multiplayer java and windows mobile games, had mobile office on the go. i had it loaded with all the course structure, a complete dictionary, some cool maths applications. I could customize the greater part of the OS, make additions, keep the good ones. It was like a mini laptop to me. Today you can find these facilities in the ads of these phones, like they are providing you with such a great phone. Its a big hoax. A small piece of free & opensource software can do greater things. These companies just put their brand and suck you deep for it.

The only reason companies like Nokia, Samsung & Apple can suck your money is because of no Consumer Awareness. Teach a consumer only what is profitable for us. This motto sucks. These companies put different output ports in every mobile. So you have to buy different cords & connectors. Why cant they put universally accepted connectors like USB, Stadard LAn ports, 3.5mm audio connectors, standar HDMI port. Go to the market and check the prices of original cables, 1500 bucks, 2000 bucks. Do consumers look like chutiyas or what. I remember buying hdmi ver 1.3b cable for 200 bucks in early 2010. Some of my friends got it for above 1000 bucks saying their quality is superior. What’s the difference in both. I use it to connect my laptop to LCD and it runs at current full HD standard 1080p. I use it almost everyday since bought. The cable is absolutely fine and happily works with HD contents.

The current case of windows mobile is a bit different from then. They too have posed much restriction on their latest windows mobile versions. The only improvement is good UI (User Interface). Still looking for a tab go for a full windows/full linux version , no android or iOS.

So I lost track from my phone buying mission to cursing the ones who fooling around with consumers.

With todays scenario I will wait for some time to check any new phone releases or lastly go with Windows Mobile, absolutely HTC.

Business: Adding new VAT 5% & 14% in Tally 7.2 & 9

A little business accounting problem to deal with. I am still using unsupported tally 7.2 last updated some 3 years back. No idea what Tally is? then skip this post.

Problem: My state government changed some VAT rates applicable from existing 4% to 5% & 12.5% to 14%. The old tally 7.2 and earlier version of tally 9 silver editions don’t have any option to add new vat classes. Tally guys want me to upgrade to tally.erp 9. Dammit another 5400 bucks on line. So I first contacted one tally freelancer expert who quoted 1000 bucks to add new vat classes. Not worth it!.

A little R&d and I finally found an easy way to add new vat classes & yes whatever VAT rates I want to I can enter into tally now.

Steps: (Tested on Tally 7.2 & Tally 9 Silver editions)

First of all take a backup of tally data and folder. Incase anything goes wrong.

Lets say you need to enter Output VAT @ 14% to Tally. Just replace the value 5 with 14.

Now the files are ready. Its time to put them into Tally.

For Tally 7.2 users:
Open Tally –> Select company –> Gateway of Tally –> Import Masters –>

Enter the correct location to ‘input.xml’ file. Rest settings as in above picture.
Click enter and hurray Input VAT has been entered.
Repeat the procedure for entering the ‘output.xml’

Tv: End of Smallville era; Superman is finally a man

Smallville after a long running of ten years is finally over. I started watching it since last year. Must have seen the first 9 seasons in a month. It was full of crap the Lana Lang shit and loads of fucking smallville. The only things that kept me watching are when will the blur will become superman, hot sexy Louise Lane and those cool groups from future and the superman army.

Clark Kent had trust issues. Lex Luthor was always a good a good friend and would have done anything to save his ass but no. Theres not even a single cut where you can see Clark not cursing Lex.

I must say the whole series was good but it was one sided self centric in favour of Clark Kent. Anything wrong about the Kal-el was simply blurred and blamed on the Luthors.

Superman was the Mahatma Gandhi of his era. Hit me, fuck me, kill the humans, destroy the world, No matter what you do I wont kill you rather give you more chances to fuck the world again.

This gives me a thought on how these fictional characters provide quite a impression of the real world to kids. A facebook wall update:

How do you expect kids to listen to their parents... Tarzan lives half naked, Cinderella comes back home at midnight, Pinocchio lies all the time, Aladdin is the king of thieves, Batman drives at 320 KM/h, Sleeping beauty is lazy, and Snow white lives with 7 guys. We shouldn’t be surprised when kids misbehave! They get it from their story books.

Whoever wrote it was quite write and I am not at all against it. Let this be the way to keep them exposed to the originalities of humanity.

Back to Smallville. The finale episode sucked a bit. I was looking for a physical fight as well as the will power they showed. Kal-el realized his inner potentials, lifted up a planet to save the earth. There should have been more like a physical fight. Darkseid from his arrival was shown as a very powerful dark side of humans. Kal-el pushed a planet away and the darkness was gone. ‘Maja nahi aaya or kuch jama nahi’.

Anyways thanks to smallville team for such hard work and keep entertaining us for a decade. Special thanks to Louise Lane for amazing performance and wearing sexy outfits. I remember Zatana the sexy magician. Lana I always hated her. Chloe was always a sweetheart. The Luthors were actual heroes. Martha Kent for being a great mom. Jonathan Kent for always showing the right way to Clark. Oliver for firing his green arrows at time. Tess Mercer for keeping herself from Luthor still being sexy and supportive. Zod for one handsome villain character. Kara for sexy guest appearance. Dr. Emil for keeping the fighters alive. And to all characters I missed Thank you guys.

India will be China in Internet censorship if the proposed amendments to IT Law comes into effect.

Wikileaks, lokpal bill issue and we bloggers have already shown what Internet is capable of. This scares the hell out of our dear politicians who are exposed using Internet.

In past many attempts had been made to block various websites like ‘blogspot.com’, ‘religious sites’. I am glad all have failed at some time.

Now they are back again with as many rules as possible to block content on internet.

Freedom on internet will be history if the rules are passed. We wont let that happen.

Early in the morning I hear a loud voice of a man shouting near my window. A minute after it some three more loudspeakers come active speaking a different tone. The first one stops after some minutes and irritating the hell out of me. The later keeps quaking my ears till everyone gets awake. These + many more things have converted me into Atheist.

Now is a marriage season going on and just after 12 at night one can view a live programme with lots of drunkards dancing through whole city celebrating. Why cant they go dance in a closed area. You have got a big marriage place. Call some DJ’s, bhangra guys or a KathakKali dancer. Just dont do on roads. Let others sleep in peace. You need privacy and so do we all. Enjoy as much as you can. be confined to you, your family and friends. Not the whole society.Major metros and cities have implemented strict pollution and norms to control these wandering souls; not the city I live in.

Fire crackers are like birth rights here. I wont be shocked that a day will come its Taliban outside my house and I wont have a clue; thinking it must be those solid ‘chocolate bombs & 7 stars’. Not to forget the rocket that almost blowed my whole place down & parachutes with big ball of fire ready to land anywhere.

An original fact: I love these all but my conscious don't permit.

2 years back I registered this domain matching my name with a thought of publishing my day-to-day journal. The day starts today. Not the journal, its time taking and seriously why care to write so much. So just some stuffs nobody appreciates or worth mentioning.
