I was crying after reading this.
Let us all choose life, choose happiness!

thanks to Joan Santiago of N@W
______________________

Nurse reveals the top 5 regrets people make on their deathbed

For many years I worked in palliative care. My patients were those who had gone home to die. Some incredibly special times were shared. I was with them for the last three to twelve weeks of their lives. People grow a lot when they are faced with their own mortality.
I learnt never to underestimate someone's capacity for growth. Some changes were phenomenal. Each experienced a variety of emotions, as expected, denial, fear, anger, remorse, more denial and eventually acceptance. Every single patient found their peace before they departed though, every one of them.

When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently, common themes surfaced again and again. Here are the most common five:

1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
This was the most common regret of all. When people realize that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.

It is very important to try and honour at least some of your dreams along the way. From the moment that you lose your health, it is too late. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.

2. I wish I didn't work so hard.
This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children's youth and their partner's companionship. Women also spoke of this regret. But as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.

By simplifying your lifestyle and making conscious choices along the way, it is possible to not need the income that you think you do. And by creating more space in your life, you become happier and more open to new opportunities, ones more suited to your new lifestyle.

3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.
Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a
result.

We cannot control the reactions of others. However, although people may initially react when you change the way you are by speaking honestly, in the end it raises the relationship to a whole new and healthier level. Either that or it releases the unhealthy relationship from your life. Either way, you win.

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying.

It is common for anyone in a busy lifestyle to let friendships slip. But when you are faced with your approaching death, the physical
details of life fall away. People do want to get their financial affairs in order if possible. But it is not money or status that holds the true importance for them. They want to get things in order more for the benefit of those they love. Usually though, they are too ill and weary to ever manage this task. It is all comes down to love and relationships in the end. That is all that remains in the final weeks, love and relationships.

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.
This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called `comfort' of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to themselves, that they were content. When deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again. When you are on your deathbed, what others think of you is a long way from your mind. How wonderful to be able to
let go and smile again, long before you are dying.

Life is a choice. It is YOUR life. Choose consciously, choose wisely, choose honestly. Choose happiness.

Source
http://www.ariseindiaforum.org/nurse-reveals-the-top-5-regrets-people-make-on-their-deathbed/

Footprints in the Snow

When my officemate Mike asked me,” How are you today?” I blurted out, “You know with this kind of weather, it’s not a good one for me! “ They were always asking me (because I’m commuting and walking) and my boss (who lives in Barrie) how we are if the snow is pouring hard like this. It’s nice of them to show their concern. But I had the worst today! The weather is nasty. Wind is gusty and snow is pouring hard…on my face…while walking around the block. I passed by 4 bus stops, you can just imagine how far it is and walked around the whole of the Brewery to get to my office. My usual route is shorter but the turnstile failed again and would not let me in. I was already thinking of going home when I saw the bus going Southbound on the way to the other entrance but I had to move on and go to work. I felt like crying after almost slipping twice (there were icy patches where I walked on) but I realized that my tears would also turn to ice so I just prayed and sang songs of praise. I felt pity for myself but I know that moment I had to think positive. I just think about the opportunity to talk to God who kept me warm and made me feel like I’m enjoying this weather…Strange but I started to like the feel of snow on my feet and like the color around me, it’s all white – clean and pure...the Friday the thirteenth jinx didn’t work on me and I thank God, my friend Jesus who walked with me all the way..I now remember the poem/song…footprints in the sand. I experienced it today. Snow storm, Blizzard? Bring it on…I’m ready for more..

Baby Carlisle is here

My nephew came a day earlier. May this year be the year you come to Canada. Happy Birthday to you Wendy and Welcome to our family Carlisle! It was a perfect opportunity to thank 2011 and welcome 2012. Well, I can still do that so I want to thank God for the many wonderful blessings last 2011. Most significant events in 2011 are acquiring our new home, my parent's visit here in Canada and my encounter retreat. Thank God for all these and other blessings. He gave us not only tangible things that we need but also the intangibles like good health, jobs and relationships.

Welcome 2012 - We went to Neil and Keli's place near Square One for the countdown. We had dinner prepared by Kelly, some Brazilian dishes, the Salmon dish she copied from me and we had fun with the Brazilian traditions that Kelly taught us while eating the lentil dish. We witnessed the very short fireworks display at the Mississauga City Hall in front of their condo. The kids played video games with Neil and stayed very late. I think we left their place after 2:00 am. Boxing Day like the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, in the U.S. is THE big shopping day in Canada. Stores, malls and most retailers are open and generally continue till New Year's. it's the day that shopaholics like me look forward to grab great deals.

When I first came to Canada, I thought that boxing day meant boxing your way to the shops in lining up to the door before it opens, or when getting the items and lining up for the cashiers. The crowded shops meant rubbing elbows with other shoppers, and literally boxing them to be the first to grab the deals. LOL! Advantage sa mga Pinoys yun because of Pacquiao'sFame, right? But I found out it has a different meaning. Several theories exist on how Boxing Day got its name. It may come from a tradition in the U.K. in which household employers boxed gifts for their servants. One thing is for certain, the name comes from storage boxes, not the sport.

So what did I get from Boxing Day? Ikea Frames for my 3D artwork and crosstitch which we got for 50% off..I didn't brave the crowds at the shops but wanted to try shopping online. I later decided not to because when I shopped online at http://www.bootlegger.com last week, the deals I got were already good only to find out that the prices went down on the boxing day/week. I got disappointed hahaha. Anyway, some deals are valid for a week, I might head to the shops later on, who knows?

On boxing day, after IKEA, the whole family headed to CINEPLEX ODEON to watch Alvin and the chipmunks - chip wrecked.

Merry Christmas! I enjoyed the parties, food and being with friends and family. There were a few gatherings in the Philippines that I was able to join virtually thru webcam and skype; Boy,I am so glad to see my family back home. I miss them actually.

Today, I prepared Christmas dinner as early as 6 am to brine the turkey. I think I was standing the whole day and busied myself in the kitchen. The Mabini kids arrived before dinner and we had a Bible Study to honor the celebrant - Jesus Christ. Anyway, it's been a while since we had a bible study with these kids; it was at their place in Rochefort where we all started with their mom - Regina facilitating and guiding us with God's words.

We had fun starting because we can't decide on the Praise and Worship song, whether it's with Christmas theme or just plain worship songs, we had a couple then we started reading in 2 Kings 4:8-37. I was so happy that after reading my son Aloysius asked questions. That means he listened intently and I hope he was blessed. The story of the Shunemite Woman and God's faithfulness will forever be etched in our hearts. We were blessed on Christmas Eve.

Of course, the celebration is not complete without food. So after feeding our minds with God's words, we feast on the Turkey, Sotanghon, Potatoes, Pasta and Salad plus sweets. They all loved the turkey..the recipe is in here if you want to try it. This time, I used cooked rice stuffing with chopped pimiento, carrots, bacon bits sprinkled with salt and pepper and butter. They said, my version is delicious, not bland or malansa.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r1AcOC5CLxQ/Tve6IgT8LLI/AAAAAAAAB_o/DnYgK6EnPwk/s320/DSC_0101.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5690221309481200818" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cLk4OUa-5YM/Tve9on2yxrI/AAAAAAAACAA/zjfxamozOaU/s320/DSC_0102.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5690225159797130930" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JXmzM42jX-M/Tve75uLy6WI/AAAAAAAAB_0/gigXgtbwVQk/s320/DSC_0108.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5690223254530353506" />

My first born is now 10 years old

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jF7q-ZO8No8/TvfBA1rnM_I/AAAAAAAACAY/IwqxQAsuhWE/s320/DSC_0106.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5690228874360075250" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8tyxJy_js18/Tve_ZimMQLI/AAAAAAAACAM/05jSWuXhB10/s320/DSC_0105.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5690227099710537906" />
10yrs ago on my way to buy food for noche buena, my water broke and then after 6 hours, my first child was born and celebrated my first Christmas as a mom in the hospital..Happy Birthday to my son Aloysius Miguel. We even tried asking for Irvin and Faye to buy for us in the US but to no avail. They got the Apple iPad 2 and we were green eyes when they were showing it on chat. On Lito’s birthday, we went to Best Buy just to look around and the kids were glued to the Apple iPad station trying on the games – Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja. Kyle and Aloysius were even fighting and want to be first. While there were no available demo iPads to use, (there were lots of people trying it too) we went to the Samsung Galaxy Tab demo unit and let Aloysius play there. The 2 tablets were almost the same and the gap on the price tag is not that substantial. Samsung Galaxy is priced at $ 449 while the 16GB Apple iPad 2 costs $519.

Lito left us to check out other sections and when he came back, the four of us are already occupying the whole Apple station, using all the demo units including Lex who sat on the table and were busy with his artwork using the Drawing Pad. He asked all of us to stop what we’re doing and leave the place but the kids are not moving. I heard Lex said “I want the big iPod” (he is using an old iPod Touch for his games at home) and the 2 older boys agreed so it was not a long time for us to decide and consent to the idea. We came home with our new toy as our All-in-one Gift this year (Birthday, Christmas and Anniversary) and everyone is happy. Lex turned out to be the most addicted because he slept while holding the iPad and while I was trying the apps when they were all sleeping, he suddenly woke up in the middle of the night and asked me “Mom, where is the big iPod?” then went back to sleep. Imagine, my 3-yr-old talking in his sleep about the iPad, he probably dreams about it too LOL!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KOmsD0acp_M/TuytTu_dGVI/AAAAAAAAB-4/KIRKjoyNMvU/s320/PC110058x.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687110984005392722" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-88NbAkdQ10s/TuytwEZuIaI/AAAAAAAAB_E/vb5v3Rmm7DA/s320/PC110060x.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687111470789042594" />

The Gift by Jim Brickman

Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to my dear husband. Kelly was so good and even Tita Lorna danced to the salsa tunes. The following weekend, I tried it myself and I was sweating hard after just finishing the Calypso lessons. Zumba is a combination of Salsa dance, Belly dancing and exercise all in one. Since I am using Xbox 360 Kinect, I needed to follow the instructions and movements to the detail in order for me to win or finish the game.
I took the next lessons in the following days and by doing it for 30 minutes a day I think I lost pounds through all the sweat coming out of my body after the workout. This is timely because I will be eating a lot in all the holiday parties and get-togethers. Oh, by the way, this game makes me fart a lot so I think even the toxic gases are coming out of my body too. They discovered new favorites like Star Wars and the Time Cop but still they spent more time in the Air Raid booth. I was surprised that Lex knows how to aim and fire. He even tried the gun games where Aloysius spent more time in. Lito and I didn’t buy them toy guns before because we didn’t want them to play violent games but I guess we can’t control it. It’s sad but this world uses not only the toys but also movies and games in all sorts of devices that even the little ones were exposed to guns and war games at their young age.
After the free hours, we used our playing cards at the ticket games like Spin a Win, Bowling and Shoot and Drop Coins. We decided not to exchange the tickets because the prizes for the value of their tickets were not too cool for them. After eating and meeting Santa Claus for Photo Opps, the kids claimed their gifts (more guns haha!), we headed home. What a day! Thanks Molson Coors!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LLyqHhYxdVo/Tuyv2W-bGlI/AAAAAAAAB_Q/wuMcEZqoc08/s320/PC040022x.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687113777877293650" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8VgFNQWcHEg/Tuyv_SEpI7I/AAAAAAAAB_c/OmLWRVJtlPc/s320/PC040036x.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687113931180024754" />

Flores and Castillo Reunion

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gv87F-a3YH4/TuwydCzWhhI/AAAAAAAAB-s/q4TuWoL-wkk/s320/PC030014.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5686975904011945490" />
We had a small get together with the Flores Family for Lex' late and Lito’s advanced birthday celebration. Uncle Nilo, Tita Lorna, Neil and Kelly went to our new home for the first time and I prepared dinner for them. We had a nice chat and I’m glad they enjoyed the sumptuous meal. We had Baked Salmon, Potato wedges roasted in garlic, Roasted Herb Chicken from Flavorwave and Salad. The cheesecake squares from Costco was also a hit. Since it was also a chat day for the Castillo’s, they were able to see those in the Philippines and New York in webcam and Uncle had a chance to chat with nanay as well.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

When I was in grade school, we always have a project called Paper Poinsettia before Christmas. We used red crepe paper cut in the shape of each petal. Then we paste 2 pieces together with thin wire and tied 5-6 petals with yellow 'nectar' to form one flower. The last step is to wrap the stem with green crepe paper to complete the project. We need at least 3 flowers to submit to the teacher. It was fun doing it but sometimes when the red and green color of the crepe paper stays in my hand even after washing them, I wished I could just buy a real poinsettia to bring to school.

Now that we have our own home and Christmas is just around the corner, I thought of the poinsettia. I wanted a real Poinsettia on our foyer to welcome guests and remind them that Christmas is here. We saw pots of them on sale here and we didn't have second thoughts on buying it. Here's how it looked on our console table:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YsCeDRbKm04/TtL9hRkQ19I/AAAAAAAAB98/351_QQDl3A4/s320/pic2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5679880828160628690" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GXZ-JNtBWhc/TtL_ON-_TLI/AAAAAAAAB-I/1_j0Odi_BOU/s320/DSC_0013.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5679882699804724402" />

We have put up our Christmas tree and assembled the Christmas village in our living room. Lito and the kids wanted to include Thomas the Train so the village was completed with rail tracks. Our holiday has started, celebration of the kids and Lito's birthday and Christmas parties to come. It's going to be a busy season.

"All I need to see standing by my Christmas tree"
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ewwRi_z6PyQ/TtMA1cNInFI/AAAAAAAAB-U/FzvX_TsO1wM/s320/pic3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5679884473148677202" />

Happy 3rd Birthday Lex!

My youngest son is no longer a baby. He just turned 3 and since we didn't have a big party on his first birthday, we threw one this year with his friends and playmates. I prepared spaghetti, cupcakes, shepherd's pie, Chicken Sopas, Chicken Wings and hotdogs but what the kids enjoyed most are the games they played at the basement. All of them were shrieking and excited to get the prizes. Lex had fun because his bestfriend Lucas (and Kyle's classmate) was there, also Sophia, Jeremiah, the twins, AJ and Violet's grandsons. To top it all off, he was happy singing his birthday song:

Doing Turkey Right The First Time

This is my very late Thanksgiving post and my only entry for the month of October. My parents returned home that's why I didn't have the time to do my online stuff. Anyway, I wanted to share here what I did to make our First Thanksgiving in our new home a very special one. My turkey turned out to be very delish according to our guests...here's how I did it:

First, I researched from the internet, asked around and prayed that my first bird will be a success. I combined all I got from google, and took the advice of my officemates to make my turkey moist and kilig to the bones tasty hahaha.

1. Brine - while the bird is being thawed (a day before you intend to roast it), prepare a brine - Put 1/2 cup salt in 8 to 10 cups water with slices of carrots, celery, onions and thyme (I used dried because that's only what I have but fresh thyme is better). Soak the bird for at least 2 hours but overnight is recommended.

2. Prepare the Turkey - Rinse in running water for 1 minute. Wipe with paper towel to remove excess water. Brush with Butter or Herb Paste (see recipe below) inside and outside the turkey. Put the bird in a roast pan with rack and include the carrots, celery and onions under the rack. Put the stuffer inside the Turkey. I used Stove Top Turkey stuffing. Tuck the wings and tie the legs to keep it intact and perfectly formed. Cover with aluminum foil.

3. Bake at 350F for 3-4 hours depending on the weight of the turkey. Baste every now and then. Basting means getting the juices and pouring it again on the turkey. On the last hour, remove the aluminum foil to make the skin golden brown until done. To test if the turkey is done, use a thermometer or check the meat by inserting a bbq stick or fork on the leg part. If the stick comes out clean and is not sticky, the turkey is done.

4. Prepare the Gravy - While the turkey is roasting, boil the neck, heart and liver in 4 cups of water with salt, peppercorn, bay leaf, onion and garlic. Simmer for 3-45 minutes then cool. Strain the broth. Puree the insides in food processor. Next, melt 1/2 cup of butter in a sauce pan and added 6 tbsp of flour, stirring to remove lumps. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes or until the mixture turns light brown. Pour the broth little by little, stir continuously. Add water little by little until thick. Season with salt, pepper then add the pureed giblets and simmer for 5 minutes. Set aside.

5. After the turkey is done. transfer to a serving platter and serve with gravy.

Herb Paste Recipe
3/4 cup butter
3 tbsp minced garlic
2 tbsp rosemary
1 tbsp basil
1 tbsp sage
1 tbsp thyme
1 tbsp italian seasoning
1 tsp ground black pepper
salt

Pictures coming soon.

Salmon Migration in Port Hope

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 260px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Jwb9G9IzVek/TpJfxAgTGeI/AAAAAAAAB9U/TnqFxChhyjo/s400/5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5661692977111833058" />
Salmons are amazing fish that live in fresh water during their early life, mature in salt water, and then return to fresh water to breed. Before reaching the area to lay their eggs they have to make an effort to jump and make it across a strong opposing current. This is a challenge for them but after moving up, there is a calm water waiting for them then they will lay their eggs and die. The eggs they laid will start a new life and the cycle goes on.

We went to Port Hope, Ontario (a town east of Toronto) to witness Salmon run last September 22. It was a long drive from Toronto but the trip going there was worthwhile because we started to see the fall colors. We got excited upon seeing the fishes jumping up the stream. Before heading to the beach for our picnic lunch, we checked out Canada Firefighters Museum and saw old firetrucks. Our lunch was superb not only because of the food but also because of the view - blue skies, calm lake and seagulls everywhere. Here are some of our pictures:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fnz24Rrbsck/TpJe7hzPEkI/AAAAAAAAB80/87Jnjtn5pjc/s400/1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5661692058336694850" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XFa88T1se3g/TpJfHkzrMeI/AAAAAAAAB88/ikrXNJ8QNEk/s400/2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5661692265302274530" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 312px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kgDj5nIJ_Bo/TpJfUFlWasI/AAAAAAAAB9E/RyAWWQDl8Bo/s400/3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5661692480258992834" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 289px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JkA3kEsKrJY/TpJf-1qepqI/AAAAAAAAB9c/u8ycJf-Smdg/s400/4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5661693214719911586" />

Epic Apple Picking

As soon as we found out that Henry and family will go to Brampton to do some apple picking, we got excited. We attended a morning service at The Queensway Church, had a short tour at Ikea then headed to Carl Laidlaw Orchards for our early fall adventure - Apple Picking.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VhylS0guUtY/TnflOA-CDRI/AAAAAAAAB8M/lG7Y5j1z7T0/s320/P9180274.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654239886128057618" />
Our tour guide Ray chose Carl Laidlaw Orchards because of the attractions for the kids. They were tasting wagon, a hay barn, a barn beam walk, a grainery and a labyrinth. The kids had fun at these attractions. But it was only icing on the cake. The real fun is seeing the apple trees and picking the apples and of course, eating all the apples our tummys can hold.

We were all smiles when we boarded the wagon going to the picking area but the kids were screaming Epic Apples when we came to a spot where the trees were full of red apples. I believe those were Royal Gala, my kids favorite so we started munching on them as we move from tree to tree. Even Lex picked his own apple and ate them.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I550mWjnJ9s/Tnfj3QmSGuI/AAAAAAAAB70/dHxSo3tCu5A/s320/P9180254.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654238395674794722"/>
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lcDeSYSCxvw/TnfkSE7QCOI/AAAAAAAAB78/mRUSDcLgcGU/s320/P9180265.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654238856397981922" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BaDRglIBlzs/Tnfk0dgk82I/AAAAAAAAB8E/TXfdQDmuA4k/s320/P9180269.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654239447112545122" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NskRsqtHeWk/TnfmgzovIyI/AAAAAAAAB8c/3r177Bei9Ks/s320/P9180283.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654241308478219042" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eRlZYQ2UeDU/TnfnDlWncZI/AAAAAAAAB8k/18poQXfkBrI/s320/P9180322.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654241905939542418" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xdt5ICD7Aw8/Tnfng7amurI/AAAAAAAAB8s/idKM0BCEkVI/s320/P9180325.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654242410078059186" />

Meet my gardeners

We started to fix the garden. We bought a manual reel lawn mower and we were excited to try it this morning. Even the kids wanted to push the mower, good thing it was not heavy but we still need to help them because it is dangerous for kids - they might trip on it. Just looking at the different tools and gadgets in the flyers we received for gardening, we found ourselves overwhelmed and too scared to spend. These gadgets cost a lot, we need to research before buying anything because they are considered investments.

Here are my new gardeners in their first attempt at mowing the lawn:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hD0diPsiodI/Tm1pbDNp8iI/AAAAAAAAB7s/4gEKNqCUgWk/s320/P9100191s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5651289020859806242" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4ZqF4Z9WHmg/Tm1ovunhL4I/AAAAAAAAB7c/D2ECGfYuMuA/s320/P9100193s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5651288276596764546" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RjH-pG0_JSA/Tm1pP4gleQI/AAAAAAAAB7k/f1DidXOI5nY/s320/P9100192s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5651288829007853826" />

Sharing our East Canada tour photobook

It's been a year since our trip to Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City and 1000 Islands and it's about time I post our photobook. Enjoy viewing!

Last Summer Hirit at Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-lake

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OlFqTItmPKM/TmMPL4yAT6I/AAAAAAAAB5s/v6RD4h5n31Y/s320/DSC_0077s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648375054547832738" />
It will only be 2 months before my mom and dad go back to the Philippines. Their stay here is not complete without them seeing Canada's most loved attraction - Niagara Falls. We headed to Niagara early this morning to spend the start of Labour Day weekend at the falls.

Every time we go to a tourist attraction, we make it a point to go to a Travel /Tourist Information desk to get some maps and some pointers on where to get the best parking place, stores and other attractions that I missed seeing in the internet. So after going to the Ontario Tourist desk in Niagara, we headed straight to the Skylon Tower parking, passed through the shortcut and voila, we arrived at mouth of The Falls.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Q355V-Wx5Xs/TmMN0PZRbvI/AAAAAAAAB5E/XSQHXVUCZpE/s320/DSC_0005s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648373548789624562" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WaoXYVfs2uY/TmMNuA60-1I/AAAAAAAAB48/a7ATS6krK6k/s320/DSC_0004s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648373441824619346" />
It was still early (around 8:00 am) so we had the falls to ourselves and some early birds too (mostly Filipinos). Although it was my 3rd time to see the Falls, it always give that special aura to keep tourists like me returning. This time is special because I'm sharing this aura with my mom and dad. Our pictures tell them all.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kCohyXMvPXc/TmMOCPZbKNI/AAAAAAAAB5M/hWJVMnWEruw/s320/DSC_0015s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648373789308430546" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-c47ZMKUiylg/TmMSdvC4xRI/AAAAAAAAB6E/c9x4O2tp1FI/s320/DSC_0060s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648378659706815762" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yD12PUhDltQ/TmMOoQOUaHI/AAAAAAAAB5k/dXaqIoDw5Jk/s320/DSC_0048s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648374442365315186" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3moihY2gcTA/TmMOV6BExXI/AAAAAAAAB5c/-lmXRK1Jbgs/s320/DSC_0021s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648374127166539122" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 306px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GwqIMyYOru8/TmMQr1GQTdI/AAAAAAAAB50/dkqcxgqUFH4/s320/DSC_0047s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648376702826466770" />
The trip will not be complete without going to where the action is and see the attractions at Falls Avenue. We went to the Hershey's Store, Guinness Museum, Wax Museum and enjoyed seeing the biggest ferris wheel called Skywheel. We also had the opportunity to see Dinosaurs in another park, Lex cried at the sight. It was so humid we rested and took coffee break at Tim Horton's.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eCcf7YKkC5U/TmMRdesCEfI/AAAAAAAAB58/cCiIjtdFNzI/s320/DSC_0086s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648377555804361202" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 192px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ahGKsUwqWmU/TmMV0exs-XI/AAAAAAAAB6M/Kx_GLQ-sww0/s320/DSC_0088s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648382349011646834" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GAtqe8DgLq0/TmMZ-gO_ZkI/AAAAAAAAB6U/ApqOu8cixWI/s320/DSC_0100s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648386919248127554" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SvAzjYL363E/TmMaM30qM0I/AAAAAAAAB6c/8raEgajLa50/s320/DSC_0138s.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648387166098305858" />
On our way back to where we parked, we saw the Floral Showcase - the small rose garden we liked very much. Some old houses were converted to Bed and Breakfasts and it was so nice to see an old town. There were so many tourists on Queen Street (Main street) so we stayed at the Queen's Royal Park and took advantage of the lovely view and the cool breeze from the lake. Our stay there was made more memorable when we met Tony - an Organito (Italian accordion) player who entertained us with his music and stories about being in Canada. We had a wonderful time at the lakeside park seeing the US Fort Niagara across the lake and resting on our picnic mat. The kids had a great time playing (or removing the centuries-old trees' bark). We had lovely time seeing the wineries on our way home, although we experienced some great thunderstorm on the road. All in all, we had a terrific summer-ending. Next time, Marineland and wine tasting hehehe.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LBxMCVupjx0/TmMkQVRffDI/AAAAAAAAB7E/BYl5E4k0qxE/s320/DSC_0251.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648398220659751986" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XcUAXAd5XBw/TmMkdk3PuYI/AAAAAAAAB7M/GP1mhuRmvwo/s320/DSC_0257.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648398448182933890" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 318px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AGmZF_UbFWU/TmMlYOE4wdI/AAAAAAAAB7U/uVfkDw208YE/s320/DSC_0274.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648399455678415314" />

Gardening 101

It's almost the end of summer and good thing, I really don't need to maintain our garden in the backyard and front yard. Just thinking about it, my head aches. I'm clueless at the types of plants and how to start with the vast varieties of plants here. Ang masaklap pa nito, you have to buy everything, di tulad sa pinas, hingi ka lang sa kapitbahay, haay. Everything here is to be purchased even the cultivator and grass cutters. Different styles pa rin yun while I remember back at my mom's garden, we just used "itak" or bolo. I realized that lawn mower have different types: cordless, gas-operated, electric and manual. The cut grass is either captured in the attached bag or you have to buy again a blower and retrieve the grass using a rake.

Even the fertilizer is seasonal. There is a grass fertilizer for Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. Goodluck talaga sa gastos hahaha. I have to maintain our grass because we have a whole corner covered with grass and most of the backyard where my kids play. I'm glad that right now they want to water the grass and sometimes play the sprinkler to keep it healthy and green. Now my problem is they have started to grow and it now needs some mowing hahaha.

Our next door neighbor's garden is fab. It has 2 awards - 2003 Garden of the Year and 2009 3rd runner up for Toronto Environmental awards. I don't have plans of competing but I just want my garden to be nice or even neat and not too bushy or something. So I'm doing some research, asking around and found out that there are ways to have a maintenance free garden. I have to choose the perennial type of plants which will last every season. I am thinking of putting fruit trees in the backyard and flowers, some ferns in front. I just hope that some of the existing plants are perennial.

I am going to be a busy gardener and I hope my green thumb will be put to use soon. But spending is far from my plans, maybe I'll start next spring. Can you dig it? haha
