Typhoon Survival 101

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A FLOOD

Put together a supply kit or your very own typhoon survival kit including:

Clear drinking WATER. Good enough for a week. Consider having at least 1 gallon per person. Consider: juices in packs, carbonated drinks, coffee.

FOOD Also good enough for a week. Consider:

Snacks that are ready0to-eat, easy to store and carry (biscuits, cookies)

Non-perishable canned food (corned beef, tuna, pork and beans, vienna sausage, etc.)
Candies to maintain sugar in body and keep acidity at bay
Bread that will last for a few days, for carbo load
Instant noodles, if you have the means to cook
IMPORTANT: food for babies and the elderly if you have some staying with you

food utensils (spoons,can opener,etc.)
first aid and medicines
sleeping bags or bedding
personal items you must have for health and safety
toiletries include toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap.
blankets, towels, comforters, pillows. You can put them in large garbage bags to keep from getting wet.
extra clothes and underwear. Put them in plastic bags to avoid from getting wet. If you can, pack something that will last you for a few days.
Jackets, sweaters, socks, caps, rain gear and warm clothing and anything else that will keep you warm and dry.
Emergency lights and flashlights
Fresh batteries, battery-powered flashlights and radio. Have reserves for batteries of different sizes, especially for radios and flashlights. Avoid candles.
Mobile phone. Make sure the battery is fully charge, and that you have a spare one, too, in case of emergency. Also consider walkie-talkies.
Cash. Banks and ATMs might not be available so make sure that you have cash with you.
Keys. Have copies of keys to the front door, back door, garage, car keys, etc.
Items for pets. Consider also having a leash, muzzle, cage and food for your pets.
Umbrellas and tents
Water pails and dippers
Floatation devices like life jackets, styrofoams, old tires, etc.
Rope

IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS TO PROTECT

Many people have died trying to go back for these things, so it’s important that you are well-prepared already at this point in time. Keep these documents in a water-proof container:

Birth certificates
Insurance records
Medical records
SSS, Pag-ibig and Philhealth records
Identification cards
Bank account numbers and records
Emergency contact numbers
Contact numbers of family, friends and loved ones

It is important that you have an ID with you wherever you go. Also, a list of people to contact in case something happens to you. If you can, put your emergency contacts on speed dial.

SAFETY during a typhoon

Stay indoors and keep calm. Secure your home. Keep roads clear for emergency vehicles. If your house is in a flood-prone area, go to the nearest designated evacuation center. Have a flashlight and radio handy, with fresh batteries, a first aid kit as well.

Do not use gas or elctrical appliances that have been flooded. If you do stay home, turn off and unplug electric appliances and equipment to avoid possible electrical shorts and fires. Make sure you have adequate protective rain gear to keep warm and dry in case you need to flee. If you are indoors during the storm, stay there. Going outside may expose u to fallen power lines, flying debris that is extremely dangerous.

In case of flooding, turn off the main sources of electricity, gas and water in your home. Unplug all equipment and appliances. Make sure that the main electrical power switch or circuit breaker is turned off. When you need to touch a switch and the floor is still wet, stand on dry board or carton or wear rubber sole boots.

Avoid low-lying areas, riverbanks, creeks and coastal areas, slopes, cliffs and foothills. Rains can trigger landslides, rockslides or mudslides.Avoid wading through flooded areas. Do not attempt to cross flowing streams. Do not operate any electrical equipment during a flood.

For people whose houses have been submerged:

1. Make sure you use CHLOROX or ZONROX for dirt and not just Lysol to kill molds. Then 2. Spray/Fumigate against mosquitoes, otherwise there will be an outbreak of dengue & cholera may follow.

Allow electrical wires, connectors and other wiring devices to dry completely. Drying may take days, depending on how wet the system is and on external temperature. When all electrical wires and accessories are dry and clean, the wiring system must be checked. The appliance itself must be completely dry, serviced or checked by a licensed electrician. Do not turn on damaged electrical appliances.

A new typhoon called Pepeng might become a super typhoon by the time it reaches Northern Luzon and has already left about 139 people stranded in ports and transportation terminals in Legazpi City.

The Bicol region has been put under Storm Signal No. 1 by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), but forecaster Mario Palafox warns that as it moves toward Northern Luzon, Pepeng could become a super typhoon with its strong winds, saying in Filipino, “Its winds are now 150 kph, near 180 kph, which is the minimum wind speed for it to be considered a super typhoon.”

It is estimated that Pepeng, which has winds that are twice as strong as Ondoy, will reach Manila by Saturday.

Prepare. Inform. Connect. Help. Remain calm. Pray. We can get through this storm.

PINOY vs. ONDOY

After Ondoy, there is still a lot of Filipinos who are devastated, frustrated and incredibly depressed because they lost everything. But when you see them, you still see them smiling albeit the ugly truth and reality that they already have nothing.

In this hour of darkness and in the worst situation, Filipinos continue to show the world the true essence of being a Filipino. Pinoy can smile through all those troubles however daunting they may be. Filipinos always find humor even in the worst circumstances and we always turn every sad situation into something positive. Ganyan ang PINOY! Sa gitna ng TRAHEDYA, may NGITI pa rin tayo! BUO ANG LOOB at PUNO NG PAGASA!

I strongly agree.

Again, I strongly agree. One thing that is quite admirable with Filipinos is that, in the face of tragedy, we never turn our backs on our family. Family comes first. Period.

I thought I was one of those unfortunate ones but realized that you will never know how lucky you are until you see their situation and hear their stories...there is no rich and poor and these people lost almost everything.. some won't even have a place to come home to anymore and some of them even lost lives. But still, I'm proud to say that Filipinos are great people who not only help each other and find strength amidst every storm but can smile through our troubles however daunting they may be.

Caught on TV - Man rescued in a rubberboat asked, "28 na ba ngayon?" Cameraman: "Opo, 28." Man somberly replied, "Bday ko na pala." Rescuers who were paddling hard turned to him in surprise before slowly singing, ..."happy birthday to you..." Even in the midst of devastation the Filipino spirit never ceases to acknowledge and celebrate the gift of life.

I think that's what gives us hope, we value each other's lives and that we're still able to smile and laugh through tough times...tough times that makes us tougher and a wee bit stronger than we think. That makes us a winner...so who's losing now? :)

The RAINFALL we experienced in 6 hrs was equivalent to 30 days of rainfall. This broke the record rainfall dated 1967 .

Thousands of people homeless. Helpless, Desperate, Angry, In denial. Shocked.

People could not be saved all at the same time for lack of govt resources , manpower and sheer danger in the rescue efforts. Hence, the delay in the rescue.

This is nature’s wrath and man’s folly put together.

Now dat Peping is 3 days away & we dont know and cant tell for sure just how strong it will be this time, if u live in low lying areas or know pipol who do, some tips for disaster & calamity preparedness for the whole family :

1) LGUs & homeowners associations must quickly invest in rubber/motor boats- for quick response & immediate evacuation of residents in subdivisions. Unless we can all afford AGAIN to wait for help.

2) If possible, have presence of mind: DO NOT panic. EACH able membr of d family mst have his/her own bag with the essentials: H20. food. Clothes.blanket, raincoat, medicines, first –aid kit, flashlight, a whistle, milk, diaper etc. according to one’s most urgent needs. The backpack must contain emergency goods, good for at least 48hrs. MAKE SURE BAGS ARE WATERPROOF or - items wrapped in thick plastic bags for added protection.

3) Bring fully charged phones and extra batteries if possible- you need these when you have to climb on top of your roof again.

4) Bring a small radio with extra batteries to be informed. Bring a list of all important telephone numbers to call in times of emergency or store these numbers in ur celphone.

5) Wag magpakasiguro – use your instinct – lumikas na agad kaysa maiipit at matrap ulit.

Because – ONDOY will happen again … and u will never know when help & rescue will come. Self preservation is a must !

It was a major flood because places (like ours in Makati) that are not flood-prone experienced massive flooding and had our share of flood water that was neck-deep yesterday. Now, it's knee-deep outside and we obviously can't still go out.

She was rescued by her sister's bf using his jetski.

Well after a stressful months of preparing for my baby girl's christening party last December and her birthday party last week, I immediately googled a nice spa for some relaxing massage and voila! I found out the most unique spa, which is actually a spa theatre, and probably one of the biggest breakthroughs in the spa business and the first in the world! It's truly impressive and is indeed a nice idea coming from a brilliant mind to come up with such a nice and unique concept! It is a fact, well at least for me, that massage and movies are one of the greatest luxuries in life! So for guys like me who just loves being pampered and watching movies, this is definitely a good Valentine treat! I love the couples room and it's more than just sitting and relaxing because you get to watch your fave movie. So all you have to do is sit back, relax and watch a movie.

I'm really interested with this spa theater at this new Blue Water Day Spa that has just been opened along Ortigas Avenue.The remarkable uniqueness and coziness of the spa theater makes it a perfect place for special functions like birthdays, seminars, group parties,family reunions and bridal showers too! I just can't wait for my friends to throw a bridal shower party for me here since hubby and I are already planning for a church wedding early next year.I'm also planning for a prenuptial party here complete with our very own AVP as I call it my one last night of unadulterated independence. One last night of no obligations. One last night of fun and pampering with my girlfriends, no holds barred. I'm just not sure if a stripper or at least a movie with a sexy stripperis allowed here. LOL I'm also thinking that this can be a nice treat for my friends who are all pretty moms and fellow Girltakers who deserves a lot of pampering (like me! LOL) for our getos (get-together parties at that)! Oh well, the list can go on and it would surely stir up a lot of excitement knowing that it's a one of kind experience for stressed peeps like me! It will certainly give any sophisticated gathering an edge and will surely bring it to a whole new level of pampering with a twist!

So freaking mad!!!

I am just one of those unlucky people having problems with withdrawing money from Paypal to my Unionbank EON card account. I withdrawn money to my EON card last September 10 and September 18 respectively and my PayPal Account Withdrawal Status is already “Completed” after 24 hours. I expected that in a matter of 5 days all things will be cleared and the money will have to be in my EON account. Today is September 27, 2008 but still I am not seeing any trace of my hard-earned money in my EON aaccount, not even one of the two withdrawals I made. I called Unionbank EON a couple of times already and I even went to 2 different branches of Unionbank in Ayala but unfortunately, they are unhelpful with the situation. And from what I understood from the operator, it is on the Paypal’s end and not from them. When I emailed Paypal about it, they said the status of my withdrawal is 'Completed', which means it has completed through the PayPal system and they have no control over the length of time it takes the CreditCard Issuer to post the credits, and they do not receive confirmation when my credit has been received by my issuing bank which s Unionbank! I feel like I'm a ball being tossed back and forth! Now it's obviously causing a lot of inconvenience for me after I paid the $5 transaction fees for each transaction and this is what I got?? How much longer am I going to wait??

Paypal then asked me to email them again after 14 business days so they can initiate to trace my card... and on September 30, I'll be requesting for a card trace and hopefully I can have something to smile about...

So far, there are no responses from EON to any emails that I have sent. I'm thinking of adding BPI account coz I've heard they haven't got any problem withdrawing money from Paypal to their BPI bank account.

Whew! I'm so freakin mad and frustrated!

I just hope I can get my money ...pronto!

I can peel it! sawang sawa na ko't sukang suka sa punyemas na Spam na yan! nakakapagod din kaya magbura ng Spam! try mo kaya! at alam mo ba?? napautot din ako ng bonggang bongga sa mga kopongkopong jokes dito hehe kaaliw talaga basahin mga kalokohang pinopost nya! Watching Cinderella, A Magical Experience

Some months ago, the time when they were just starting to make a buzz about Lea Salonga as Cinderella here in Manila by Rodgers & Hammerstein, I was already giddy and so excited about it. Needless to say, I'm a huge Lea Salonga fan! So I waited until I see the ads about it and as soon as I knew the first showing date, I got the tickets pronto. I wanted to be one of the first lucky peeps to watch it and now I wanna be the first to blog about it. To begin with, the tickets are a bit pricey but I think it's worth it for such a royalty, magnificent show and excellent performance. For me, it's priceless. I also bought the original soundtrack of Lea Salonga's Cinderella and other souvenir program during the intermission. Now, I'm broke. Lol

Oh well, Lea is just as beautiful as ever and I really love her heavenly voice. Her Prince, played by Peter Saiden, is undeniably handsome and charming. He is truly crush-worthy. Their songs are beautifully and flawlessly sang together, for a while I thought their music was like a lullaby. I'm sure if I brought my baby with me, she'll be enjoying it too and I don't have to worry on putting her to sleep. I can't wait for that time when my Maia Chanelle will finally grow up so I can bring her with me to watch it. I admire Lea's talents and her unsurpassed ability to perform well in this musical with her grueling schedule of motherhood with her pretty baby Nicole. I also love the wicked step mother and step sisters' performances. But my favorite part was of course the magical and enchanting transformation from rags to riches in Scene 4 wherein the Fairy Godmother turns the pumpkin into a enchanted carriage, the little mice into horses, and Cinderella into a beautiful princess. I should've brought binoculars though.

I have watched videos of her other performances or musicals in YouTube especially those times when I was pregnant and I wanted my baby to hear beautiful music. Most of them I really really love to watch and listen over and over again and there are also those videos that are dull and so-so to watch. But watching Cinderella is another story. For me, it's a magical experience that I'll truly cherish for life. I hope you guys can watch it too so you can appreciate the music, the grand show and lavish costume of the Cinderella show. You still have a month to go to watch Cinderella. They will play in the Philippines from July 29 to August 24, 2008 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The tour will also play in mainland China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Be Proud to be Pinoy!

My Baby Maia Chanelle, Grand Prize Winner of Ai-non Cutest Baby Contest

I just received a call from Ainon telling me that my baby Maia Chanelle is one of the Grand Prize Winners of Ai-non Cutest Baby Photo Contest!

She is the Grand Prize Winner for the category of 0-5 months. I'm just so proud of her and when I told her about it, she just laughed. Lolz =) So in behalf of my baby girl, I want to say thanks to Ainon and thanks to tita Kim, my fellow girltalker who told me about it and sent me the link! Now, lemme translate and interpret my baby's speech for all of you.

She said, "Aaah..ah-goo..gooo...atah-tah tah...aaaaah...maaaaaaaaa.. ma...dah!"

Oh well...it only means.."Thank you sooooo much!". Lol

I happened to reach zaldydalisay's blog while bloghopping. I'm not sure how I got there but it was surely one good hop which I got myself into. He is currently running a $100 blogging contest for his 3 years in blogging... and I thought that maybe I should give it a try.

...I'm back! LOL been VERY busy and not having the time nor energy to blog so lemme say sorry for that( mommy juls and to all my bloggurls so sorry for not visiting your blogs guys for these past few days or weeks?!? hihi So sorry this update took so loooong... things have been pretty busy lately! So here's the latest updates..

as you can see, here's my lil tigger..my bouncing baby buchi, I treat her like my gucci! teehee... she's turning 4 months old on june 6 :)

hmmm.. Recently I kept my self busy with work, my homebased jobs and looking after my baby girl, my favorite lil person in the world, my Maia Chanelle! xoxo I bought a lot of items though.. so after a month of working, I still haven't saved much LOL But I got a new pair of shoes..oh I mean 2! I also bought lots of bags LOL and lots of cute lil dresses for mi bebe and ordered a SuperGirl costume which I haven't received yet hihi excited??! hell yeah!! Here's the pix of some of the things I bought few days ago... so much for being an uber impulsive buyer! tenenenen tenen...

Yay! Oh well...I have heard many, many, many great reviews on the newest Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler that I had to see what all the fuss was about! Also, I lurve eyelash curlers. Over the years I have tried and owned lots of them ... cheap ones, scary looking ones that eventually hurt and pinch me, plastic ones, tiny ones, heated ones, I have owned them all except for the very pricey ones like Shu. It has always been on my wish list but the price is making me hesitant to buy it! haha So just for the love of it, I finally bought one to see if it really works wonders. It's a bit steep in price though but I think it's worth a try for this "holy grail" eyelash curler if I wanna get dolled up and want to have pretty pretty lashes. I'm not sure if it was the right thing to do or if it is a real good investment. Maybe it was just the hype?! Argh! The last eyelash curler, and of course it's one of the cheaper ones is a major DISASTER! All I get is crunchy looking lashes, gave me the terrible L-shape, pinched me (Ouch!) and even some of my lashes fell off. I debate over buying something more expensive to see if it is the cheapness that is keeping me from beautiful lashes. Oh well.. that's all. I just have to wait for the delivery of my new eyelash curler..shipment arriving soon.. and I'm gonna check it out if it's really worth it! I'll keep you posted and I might give a short review about it soon. Be safe now... tats for now.

Tips to Have a Brilliant Baby

My baby is already 2.5 months old now and so far, she can stare at an object for a sustained period of time. She can make sounds like open vowel sounds ("ah", "oh") or coo or babble. She always sleep all day and wakes up at night. She smiles and laughs but she can get really fussy and cranky at times. She hates it when her nappies get wet so we have a huge stock of nappies. She enjoys being held, cuddled, soothed and rocked than lie on her crib and stare at the ceiling. She also hates it when she has hiccups. She gets really mad of it sometimes. She loves gazing at her daddy's eyes. She spits up a lot but she's not colicky now. (Thank God! Hallelujah!) Ohh..but she still loves to fart and it's getting louder. LOL She loves taking a milk bath. She's able to lift her head while laying on her back and hold it for several minutes. She loves to kick and it's getting stronger each day. Oooopss...she's crying now. Time check: 1:15 a.m. Now here comes the tips to have a brilliant lil one...

Hearing

At about 2 months old, babies can distinguish different voices, qualities, and tone. Try varying your voice from high pitched to low, fast speech to slow, and other vocal sound you can produce. You can also crumple or tear a paper, knock on door or floor, turn on the faucet, turn on the washing machine, let the dog bark, clear your throat, etc.

Language
They are more likely to make sounds if mother or caretaker is speaking to them. If baby is vocalizing, you should keep quite and pause, just look and listen to baby, then smile and clap your hands and hug her after the baby’s cooing. Repeat also baby’s cooing, but take turn. Let baby finish the cooing then take your turn. This vocal (cooing) interaction will encourage your baby to interact more with you. It will give her a sense of having an impact on events.

Muscle and Eye Coordination

While lying on her back, put a "Sesame Street Gym Activity Center." Place it in such a way that she will be successful in swiping or reaching for Big Bird. At first get her right arm and with your help, let her touch or reach for Big Bird. She will show delight doing this. Then let her try this reaching maneuver by herself. Smile, be happy, and kiss her with each successful "swiping" or "reaching" for Big Bird.
