Centimeter , hailing from Stockholm, was formed in 2004 and released their first album “Mellanrum” in 2006. Then they sang in Swedish, but now, tomorrow to be more specific, they released their second album “70″ with only English lyrics. A first taste of the album is available, the song “Motorhead”, a piece of pop/rock with a comfortable atmosphere, a little in the direction of Coldplay.

Here’s Rooni with their third single, the catchy “Ambulance”, a song in the same spirit as the earlier ones, with their own mix of indie pop and retro-vibing power pop. The best song so far I think.

In the Autumn I presented a couple of singles with the heartbreaking tones from the duo Sveket. This Spring they have released their third single, “På flykt från drömmen”, this time as a duo between Magnus Olsve from Sveket and Ivan Ljungdahl.

The five member strong band Alexandria, hailing from Stockholm, published this dreamy pop-track during Spring: “Whatever”, recorded in their rehearsal room.

Another band that has made an awaited comeback this Spring is the duo Club 8 with the new album “Above the City”. Quite pleasant electro pop indeed, represented by the three songs here below, which show some of the span on the record.

The Gloria Story invites us to a great rock’n'roll-party on their latest album “Born to Lose”. I hear a lot of retro vibes from the thirteen tracks, most of all from glam rock and hard rock from the seventies, but also with some doses of punk in the spirit of Ramones. Music for love, dreams, and warm summer nights, the band Dorena, hailing from Göteborg, write about their new album “Nuet” (“The Present”). And it does feel summery in this instrumental, beautiful post rock where they mix old and new sounds, peaceful contemplations and grand post rock explosions. Taste a couple of tracks here below.

It sounds like an old cassette tape demo recording from the seventies or eighties by an English garage- or punk band. Often I find it hard to hear the lyrics from the somewhat can-sounding vocals. It’s straight, simple rock riffs without detours and extravagance. A combination I probably wouldn’t have chosen for my music menu if it hadn’t jumped into my inbox. But it feels good listening to this, and my foot starts moving with the rough guitar rhytms. And when the bass starts pumping with a wavy sound and is followed by the catchy guitar figure in “Trees Passing”, it’s time to surrender. The band’s name is Georgia Barbershop, the album “It’s Alright, It’s Okay, It Only Took Seven Years” is their debut and they are now on their way working with their second album.

Douglas Unger released his second full length album this Spring, “Old News”, seven years after his debut in 2006. If we’re talking genre we land in country rock and American rock land, with representatives like Ryan Adams and Wilco, but I’m also reminded of other icons like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits and Bruce Cockburn. I think it’s a fine, fully enjoyable album where Douglas makes his personal mark in these well-trodden grounds. The sound is great: close, earthy and dirty, like if we we’re listening to him in a small club, and his voice, which has both ardour and authority, is like it’s made to live out in this music. Definitely one of the best efforts I’ve heard in the genre in the last years.

Emerald Park, hailing from Malmö, released the new EP “Black Box” last month. They continue on their path with their own brew of Magnetic Fields, Americana and indiepop, which we last heard on their album “Absolute Zero” last year. The band Alaska is based in Stockholm, have played together for two years and have so far published two EP:s. The latest one, “The Annie EP”, was released during Spring and contains two pieces of smooth pop songs with happy guitars, nice falsetto vocals and some summer retro vibes from the seventies. Well, both songs are just as good, så listen to both of them here below.

In 2009 I presented Dr. Sounds here on the blog and since then he’s been quite productive, to say the least. Counting the albums on Spotify I can find at least 11 of them only since 2010, with songs and albums of varying length; “Kobresia” from 2010, for example, contains 60 tracks with several hours of music. If you like to sink into chillout, different electronic sound atmospheres and ambient music, you have quite a gold mine here to find some inspiration from. The latest album is called “Cobresia III”, and the first song here below is taken from there. Below it you’ll find “Bengali” with some asian influences, which can often be found in his music.

Momofoko, hailing from Malmö, released their third album “Movement” during Spring. We heard the catchy single “We Know” already last year and now it’s in good company of another 8 tracks of dance-inspiring indie-disco-pop, alternately electronic and guitar-funky. Here’s a taste of it.

Misth, hailing from Stockholm, released a sparkling debut rock album during Spring, which is definitely worth checking out if you like the combination of metal, melodic hard rock and progressive rock. In front of a gang of brilliant musicians and scarred veterans, who come from the predecessor Mercury Fang, we find singer Maria Rådsten. Mostly known from before as a member of the group One More Time, it sounds like she’s really found her hunting grounds as she’s impressing with her register, dynamics and strength.

There’s a lot of candy here for one whose choosy with rock; everything from tight, progressive excursions, to ominous metal riffs to melodic choruses that explodes in a kind of hard rock party. Nostalgic as I am I get quite a few vibes from both the seventies and the eighties with Dio, Black Sabbath, Yngwie Malmsteen and the likes. Sometimes I just get a flashback from one of the many guitar sounds thats strewn across the record. An album where they don’t hesitate to squeeze out the very last from the songs where five of the ten songs run over 6 minutes, with the epic finishing track “Day of Retribution” as the grande finale. Tiger Forest Cat is Filip Sundberg’s (from Syket) solo project. During Spring he released this dreamy pop ballad, “Everybody’s Running”. Prefab Sprout and Bryan Ferry are mentioned in the press material as possible influences; to me it sounds a bit like Summer in the early Eighties and Steely Dan, maybe some more of Roxy Music and a bit of Toto. And why not some of Californiaman, whom I wrote about earlier this year.

The band Esther, hailing from Växjö, released their debut album “A South Province Letter” a month ago, and to give us a taste of the record they have put the song “Considerations” and a couple of songs more on display. And it tastes good from both the singles and the album; happy, uplifting indie in the borderland between pop and rock with catchy melodies.
