type="html">
As many of you know I have a brother with autism. This is probably the main reason I feel drawn to movies or books about autism and other disabilities. When given the chance to review the movie A Mile In His Shoes I jumped on it.

In this movie, Murph, the coach of a struggling semi-pro baseball team is on a recruiting trip when he happens to find Mickey, the son of a poor farmer. Murph discovers that Mickey has an amazing arm, but also that Mickey struggles with Asperger's Syndrome. Eventually Murph convinces Mickey to join his team and the entire cast changes as they get to know Mickey better, and come to understand Asperger's better.

Honestly, I struggled quite a bit throughout this movie. The way Mickey’s own father treats him angered me and broke my heart. I know full well that disabilities are misunderstood even within families of those who are disabled, but it still frustrated me to watch it on my screen. The ignorance of others on the team as far as how to treat Mickey also irked me. But, it was rewarding as a a viewer to watch the growth of all the characters as they come to accept Mickey for who he is, and to see Mickey eventually accept himself throughout the movie.

If you or someone you know struggles with the effects of a disability, this movie has a great message…one of hope and potential. This is also a great tool for parents and educators to spread awareness of disabilities; specifically Asperger’s.

“Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog.

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Avocados from Mexico for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I honestly am not totally in love with avocados, but I do LOVE what avocados can do for me...I know they have great health benefits and guacamole can make a fantastic addition to chips and salsa or other dips! I love that they are versatile enough to be used in a lot of different recipes. But, I would never sit and eat an avocado...just sayin'.

How about you? If you want to express your love for avocados, go to the I love avocados on Facebook page and click "like." When you do that you can download avocado related ring tones, or get fun wall papers or badges like the one I picked below:

To further express your love for avocados, you can connect with I LOVE Avocados on Twitter through @guacgrl and tweet your love of avocados by using the hashtag #iloveavocados.

Do you have a favorite use for avocados? Do you slice them up and add them to salad or do you have a favorite recipe that uses avocados. I must say the avocado slicers I see in the store look pretty cool and I've been a little tempted to get one just so I can try slicing Avocados from Mexico :).

When I saw Evie S’s earrings I knew I had to make my own version…heart shaped earrings from a paper clip. These are perfect for Valentine’s Day coming up or just for a fun accessory on a random day :)

The best part of these earrings? They are made from a paper clip and thread…things almost everyone has lying around!

Just take your paperclips, unfold them, trim the longer end and shape the paperclips into hearts…

Take a long piece of thread (as in like 3 feet long) and lay the end across where the two ends of the paper clip meet. If you run out of thread, just tie some more on and clip the ends close to the knot. When you have gone all the way around the paper clip put a dab of glue on the thread in the same spot where you began and let that dry. Take the remainder of the thread and wrap it around the paper clip heart randomly like below…

I took some Mod Podge and “painted it” around the paper clip to keep all of the random threads in place especially since my boys love touching my earrings. Since I’ve loved the dishwasher detergent packets (when I can find them on sale), I thought I would fall in love with the new Purex UltraPacks laundry detergent as well.

As far as convenience, it can’t be beat. You just throw the UltraPack in the washer with the rest of your clothes; I don’t even have to open the dispenser drawer on my front loader washer. As far as efficiency I am honestly disappointed. More than once I have pulled my clothes out of the dryer after using one of the UltraPacks only to find large, hard clumps of detergent on random clothing articles. It comes out the next time I wash it, but I expect my clothes to be clean of everything including soap when they come out of the washer.

I did accidentally put an UltraPack in my dispenser once and it dissolved just fine and the clothes came out clean. I think that in a top-loading washer this product may work better because it would be agitated differently and dissolve differently, but just keep in mind that if you have a front loader, you may have issues with the pack completely dissolving.

I will say that our clothes do seem to be clean other than the globs of detergent, and stains seem to come out just fine. I would rather have a product that gets everything out and hope to see how Purex improves this product.

Disclosure: I received a free product in exchange for this post. All opinions herein are mine.

I bought my frame from the dollar store and got to use the lace that my mother-in-law left in her sewing desk which I inherited when she passed away. Now I not only have a pretty piece in my bedroom, but it’s a fun little reminder of my mother-in-law.

All you need to do is take the back and glass out of the frame. Cut your lace to the width of the frame, pull it tight and hot glue it (without burning yourself) to the back inside of the frame:

I did have to glue the hanger to the top of my frame but made sure it was secure. I complain about how poorly they see or how sore they are but I forget to express my gratitude at the fact that I can see; at the fact that the problems with my vision can be so easily corrected through contacts or glasses.

Carl Zeiss Vision is one of the leading manufacturers of optometric products in the world, with millions of eyeglass wearers using Zeiss glasses. Carl Zeiss was 30 years old when began his optical workshop in November 1846 and has produced quality products such as microscopes used by Nobel Prize winners, glasses, lenses used by astronauts to take pictures of the moon, Google Earth camera lenses, and lenses used to film movies such as Lord of the Rings.

As such, Zeiss is committed to better vision for all of their patients. They provide everyone with educational tools where those thinking about seeing an eye doctor can learn about what to expect from their visit. Their website also explains how vision works, provides an understanding of a patient’s vision correction needs, and ensures that the patient gets the most out of their next eye exam and receives the best lenses to regain sharp vision.

According to Zeiss’ website, each eye is unique…just like our fingerprints.

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Before writing this post I had never heard about Express Script, but apparently members of Express Script were greatly affected at the beginning of the year when Walgreens and Express Script were unable to negotiate, and their contract expired. Because the contract has been terminated, members can no longer fill their prescriptions at Walgreens which often means they have to drive further to find a pharmacy that works with Express Script, and members are seeing no decrease in cost in their medication while dealing with this and other related hassles such as inconvenient hours at the patients' new pharmacies.

Walgreens is working to make the transition as smooth as possible for all of those affected by Express Script. During the month of January, they are offering a discount on their Walgreens Prescription Savings ClubWalgreens Prescription Savings Club.which is currently $5 per individual or $10 per family for a membership. Normally priced at $20 per individual and $35 per family, this club offers savings on more than 8,000 brand name and all generic medications. The Savings Club also offers discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and diabetic supplies.

To see if you are affected, look at the back of your prescription insurance card. If "Express Script" is written on your card, talk to your pharmacist to see how you will be affected.

Stay updated with Walgreens on Twitter and Walgreens on Facebook.

Unless we are in a military family, however, we will never know how truly hard it is for those service men and women to be away from family for extended periods while putting their lives on the line. Nor will we ever know the struggles that their families go through, parenting alone, or not having mom or dad around. Not only do these families struggle while their loved one is away, but everyone in the family struggles greatly when their military hero returns...the adjustment is hard and since 2001, the divorce rate of military families has increased 42%.
It is so important to teach kids good financial habits while they are young so they can grow to be wise with their money and avoid debt.

Products like the Money Savvy Pig help us as parents do just that. This pig isn’t your ordinary piggy bank-it has four sections to help kids learn to manage their money. Those sections are Save, Spend, Donate and Invest. Each of the pig’s feet grants access to one of the above mentioned sections.

I want my children to learn how to find gratification from saving their money and sharing their money with a good cause, but also from earning enough to buy something for themselves to enjoy. This pig helps me as a mom feel better about letting my kids go buy something they want because I can see how much they have allocated to other sections of the pig, as can they.

The Money Savvy Pig is well designed and helps children learn a valuable life lesson. If you are looking for a fun way to teach your child money management skills, I highly encourage you to look into the Money Savvy Pig. One lucky reader will win their own pig here…just follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter form below.
Every single time it’s just painful to spend that much on books! Thankfully this is his last semester and I can’t wait to have the cost of school and textbooks behind us.

If you or someone you love is going to college right now, they can probably commiserate quite well with me on this matter. Who knew forks could look so pretty?!

Anyhow, I wanted one of my own and decided to try making a fork bracelet…turns out it’s not terribly hard, though I admit I am lacking in all of the tools that could make my bracelet as pretty as the one that inspired it.

I took a regular fork (that obviously wouldn’t be too hard to bend), and used a hammer and pliers to pound the fork around a sturdy metal pole. However, after reading so many positive reviews, and the claims that these pens are super comfortable, I really wanted to test the UGLee Pens out for myself.

I was excited when the folks at UGLee Pen agreed to let me review their products. As soon as I took the pens out of the packaging I noticed how squishy and sticky the grip on this ergonomic pen is. This initially threw me off but as soon as I started writing with the UGLee Pen I could tell why the grip is so squishy. The pen literally grips your fingers so your fingers don’t have to work so hard and your hand is less strained while writing.
For me, the two true tests for these pens would be if they worked for those of us who are left-handed and if they truly helped young children hold the pens better as is claimed on the UGLee Pen website.

As for those of us who are left-handed, these pens write wonderfully! The ink flows smoothly and dries relatively quickly so my hand isn’t totally covered in ink by the time I’m done writing.

And as for whether these pens help children grip better, I had my 4 year old write with an UGLee Pen. Because of the grip, his hand was naturally positioned a lot better than it is with normal pens. I will definitely be interested to see how he does with these pens over time.

Now, I have the chance to offer a giveaway to YOU! One lucky winner will receive their own UGLee pen, comfort pen 3 pack to try out. To enter, follow the Rafflecopter instructions below.
I was able to make two drums from one juice canister.

Have your kids decorate their drums with paint, markers, glitter, etc.

Punch two holes in the sides of the drum and cut a hole to put the stick through the bottom.

This post brought to you by American Baby Magazine. All opinions are 100% mine.

When I was pregnant for the first time and had my little boy, it was like I had entered a whole new world. I was overwhelmed with all of the information and was constantly looking up stuff from runny noses to monthly developmental milestones. I could regularly be found reading books about babies and magazines such as American Baby and I was so grateful to have that resource mailed to me monthly.

Not only did it provide information as far as what to expect, but the stories from other new moms gave me great comfort as I read of their struggles and mistakes, as well as their accomplishments. I had other mothers to relate to and knew there were other women who understood what I was going through at the time. American Baby was like an invisible support network.

I LOVE receiving mail...to the point that I couldn't understand why my mom complained about junk mail growing up. Receiving my American Baby magazine was no exception. If you or a friend are expecting a baby or have just had a baby, order this free years subscription to American Baby Magazine. Order one for yourself too! I truly did receive this magazine for free for the first year after both of my children were born and highly recommend you order it. :)

Now, you get to read all about our experience with the challenge :).

We were sent several products from Listerine and Reach for the purposes of this challenge. Some of those products were: floss, mouthwash and toothbrushes.

Since my boys are both too young to use any of the mouthwash products available, we focused on brushing and flossing every day with them. To make flossing easier, my husband and I used floss picks which made flossing between each of those little teeth a breeze and both boys were excited to practice flossing on their own. Every day they got to put stickers on their charts we got from Listerine and both of my boys did better at reminding me to help them brush and floss than I did at remembering! The stickers were a great incentive for them to want to brush and floss.

My husband and I did a fair job at remembering to brush, floss and rinse twice a day but once we got closer to the holidays I think we both just forgot to do the whole routine every morning. We did notice however that on days we didn’t brush, floss or rinse in the morning, our teeth felt considerably grosser at night! Now that we are home from traveling, we are going to try harder to get back into that routine.

I think that after doing this challenge, my entire family has been able to see the benefits of consistent oral care and I do hope that we will be able to make brushing, flossing and rinsing twice a day a good habit. I know that as long as we keep a sticker chart, my boys will be wonderful at reminding us to not only take care of their teeth but to take care of our own as well!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Listerine and received a sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Whether he did a good job politically is beyond any sort of discussion I want to have on this blog, but as a person, I think Bush is a good man.

That being said, my interest was piqued when given the chance to read his book Decision Points. In the first few chapters, I gained a greater understanding of George W Bush’s background and why he is the man he is today.

I also found it fascinating to read his side of the story in relation to events such as September 11th, Hurricane Katrina and the drama involved in his election. At times I was shocked by how different his side of the story is from the media’s or from my own memory of the events he discussed.

I found the political aspects of his book to be somewhat interesting, though it eventually felt like the book had become a long justification for everything that went wrong, while being sure to point out everything that went right while he was in office. My father is very open about his political viewpoints and I couldn’t help but feel his influence as someone who no longer thinks very highly of Bush or the role he played in office and I’m sure that played a large role in how I viewed this book.

All in all, I enjoyed the chance to get to know President Bush a little better by seeing his presidency through his own perspective, though, at times it did feel like he was trying too hard to prove his point and to validate every decision he made as president.

This experience has made me want to read memoirs of other presidents to gain a greater understanding of the men who led our country and the experiences they had while doing so.

I received this book from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for the purposes of this review.

This post brought to you by PartyLite Simple Pleasures Holiday Sweepstakes. All opinions are 100% mine.

My husband and I are both huge fans of candles...the scent is rarely overpowering but is perfect to freshen up a room. And there are so many different scents that everyone is happy!

PartyLite is the world's #1 direct seller of premium candles. People can host a PartyLite party where they can earn free products by selling their products to family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, etc. Even better, hosting one of these parties is a great excuse to have friends over and just enjoy being together. Apparently 60,000 people worldwide sell PartyLite products and more than 12 million people host parties each year.

If you really love candles or other scented products and love having a variety for every season or occasion, PartyLite may be just what you need. Party hosts can earn scented candles, candle warmers, home decor accessories, reed diffusers and more.

PartyLite's Winter/Spring 2012 Catalog launches on December 16th if you are interested in learning more about their company. You can also check out the PartyLite Facebook page.

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Zenni Optical for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have worn glasses since 1st grade and though I've only ever had one pair at a time, I think it would be so fun to have several different pairs so that I could accessorize with my glasses and have them match my outfits. But, that dream is for another day with a slightly looser budget.

Lately, buying glasses online seems to be all the rage and one such site that you can buy cheap eyeglasses online is at Zenni Optical. They have some super cute and stylish glasses for extremely affordable prices...just the sort of place one might go if they wanted to accessorize with their eyeglasses.

You can even get in the holiday spirit with festive red or green glasses like these:

If I were in need of glasses and found that I could save oodles of money by shopping at Zenni Optical (therefore freeing up my holiday budget) I would probably go spend money on my kids. It is so much fun shopping for my boys now that they are old enough to enjoy the holidays and you can bet I would spend any extra money on them :).

What frames would you choose to get you in the holiday spirit?
