Sideshow Collectibles runs a “12 Days of Sideshow” feature every year that starts on December 25 and concludes on January 5. Each day of their event, they reveal a new product, announce a new license, host a big giveaway, or get their fans excited in some other creative way. Today’s feature for New Year’s Day is especially cool, because it gives us our first official detailed photos of the company’s upcoming line of 1/6 scale DC Comics action figures after their announcement at the 2012 Comic-Con in San Diego. You can find the full 12 Days event on Sideshow’s website, and here’s a look at the upcoming Superman, Batman, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Joker figures. Release dates and pricing have yet to be announced.

Quantum Mechanix has turned out some awesome and geeky collectibles, ranging from adorable Firefly figurines to detailed Battlestar Galactica replicas. Now their sights are set on the Syfy hit series Warehouse 13, and they’re giving it the animated treatment with a brand new statue, hopefully the first of a series. The inaugural piece in the collection features Claudia Donovan (played by Allison Scagliotti), the Warehouse’s fan-favorite tech geek. She’ll be limited to 1000 pieces and is scheduled for a first quarter 2012 release. Check out the pics below, and she’s already up for preorder here.

As a fan of both creativity and toy collecting, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I checked out a couple of videos that Hong Kong toymakers Hot Toys linked on their Facebook this week. They spotlighted Patrick Boivin, a French Canadian filmmaker who has been gaining a steady following through his brilliant short films. Featuring an uncanny knack for camera angles, lighting, and believable animation, many of Boivin’s films feature stop motion adventures for recognizable pop culture icons as action figures. You can see his full library on his YouTube profile, but here are a few of my favorites, all making use of action figures made by top tier companies like Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles.

This was another set for which I had been waiting a long time, in part because it was a new version of Boba Fett’s ship, but also for the unique, new minifigures. To start off with, there is a new sculpt of Boba Fett. Instead of a black head with a one-piece helmet/jetpack element, this Boba has a separate helmet, a separate jetpack, and a little shoulder-cape. His head actually looks like a person underneath the helmet, and the helmet itself has an antenna similar to the one for Clone Wars clone commander minifigures.

This is a great set, but if you're on the fence about buying it, you may want to save your money, as it is around $110. For the diehards, though, this is must-own, especially for the 30th anniversary. I don't regret getting it, and it looks pretty cool with the rest of my Hoth sets. Now if I could just recreate the battle itself...

This set has its good and bad qualities. For one thing, LEGO seems to have done away with numbered bags that help keep the individual elements from taking over a workspace. My table went back to being covered in pieces from all of the bags, which is a bit confusing when you’re looking for “that one friggin’ piece.” Also, it does not have the larger upper leg joint covers that the previous two sets had, nor do the covers have a printed joint image on them. Lastly, this set does not move on its own power like its motorized counterpart, but it is poseable and the main housing isn’t taken up with a motor, but has a control station for General Veers and two snowtroopers.

In the wake of last weekend’s Star Wars Celebration V convention, Sideshow Collectibles has unveiled an image gallery of their upcoming Commander Cody 12″ action figure. Like the other troopers in Sideshow’s Star Wars series, Commander Cody will come in a standard edition as well as in an exclusive one that includes a special, character specific display base. Additionally, Cody comes with a removable helmet feature and a miniature hologram of Darth Sidious to help you throw him full-tilt into Order 66. Both versions of Cody are priced at $124.99 and will be available for preorder this Thursday, August 19. You can check out the full image gallery on Sideshow’s website.

Quantum Mechanix has made some truly awesome collectibles over the past few years, and one of their most popular developments is the “little”fying of popular sci fi characters from properties like Battlestar Galactica and Firefly. Their chibified BSG series launched with animated-style versions of Starbuck and a Cylon Centurion, and now they’re going old school for the next piece in the line.

Hot Toys has done it again. The Hong Kong-based action figure company is known for producing uncanny likenesses of celebrities as 1/6-scale action figures, and this time their focus is on Jessica Biel as Abigail Whistler from Blade: Trinity. The 12″ figure is scheduled for release later this year but already is available for preorder online. She comes with loads of accessories from extra swap-out hands to two different bows (one of them the UV bow from the movie) to her knife-wielding forearm gauntlet.
