The Kansas City Chiefs released star running back Larry Johnson after the athlete repeatedly slammed coaches and fans on Twitter. Due to the incident, Johnson, who had recently been suspended for misconduct, is no longer apart of the organization and currently searching for a new home. Aside from causing problems in the locker room and on Twitter, Johnson also used the service to make homophobic remarks at a user responding to Johnson’s claims that the Chiefs’ coach was not up to par.

News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch wants to block content from the Wall Street Journal and other News Corp publications from Google. Murdoch plans to couple the Google block with his decision to charge for all News Corp online content.

Beginning today, Yahoo will provide free Wi-Fi to the Times Square area. Through a deal with the Times Square Alliance, Yahoo hopes to bring the estimated half a million visitors Times Square receives daily the ability to get on the web. Yahoo says the move is “is the latest literal expression of Yahoo!’s promise to be at the center of people’s online lives.”

Sony will allow consumers to purchase Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs on Blu-ray and through web connected televisions before DVD. The move, which the company has experimented with in the past, finds Sony experimenting with various release strategies, while also trying to bolster the sale of Blu-ray discs, which the company manufactures. The film will be available for an entire month on Internet connected Bravia’s and Blu-ray before it is available on DVD.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will hit stores tomorrow. Due to high demand and overwhelming pre-order sales, Barnes & Noble has pushed back the market date of its new Nook eReader. The new device, which will retail for $259, will ship over December 11th for new customers. While Barnes & Noble has pushed back shipping dates for new customers, Nook’s originally scheduled to ship on November 30th will ship as planned.

A man using numerous online pseudonyms to comment on blogs is being prosecuted for doing just that. Raphael Haim Golb, a Dead Sea Scroll scholar, is accused of using the names of his academic rivals to reinforce his own arguments on the famous scrolls. Golb could be charged with as much as many as three crimes, including impersonation, identity theft and aggravated harassment.

Zynga, one of the biggest social gaming companies, will remove ads placed inside games. The in game offers have plagued the games, creating a “bad user experience,” says Zynga CEO Mark Pincus. Oprah announced that she will exclusively air her flagship program on the Oprah Winfrey Network beginning 2011. The move finds Oprah walking away from her massive syndication deals, in an attempt to flesh out the programming of her new venture with Discovery. If Oprah does not move the Oprah show to the OWN network, Discovery may take the network away from the superstar.

Samsung is set to begin bundling internet with 23 different new TV’s and three Blu-ray players. While other companies like LG, Sony and Sharp have also manufactured lines with similar connectivity, only 12% of flat screen televisions sold in September were outfitted with an Internet connection. With Samsung making the push, and increased streaming services from Netflix and Blockbuster, streaming the web through your television may finally be a viable way to access entertainment.

Verizon is now offering customers the chance to purchase prepaid data plans. However, while users will be able to pay for a prepaid amount of data, they will be subject to a hefty convenience charge. Users looking to buy data seperately from their wireless plan will have the option of a daily ($15 for 75 mb), weekly ($30 for 250 mb) or monthly ($50 for 500 mb) plan.

Best Buy announced that it will install mobile applications on Google Android based smart phones purchased at its store. The free in-store mobile application set up is one way Best Buy hopes to lure in potential Android customers. The goal is to show customers “what is available to them and how they can bring it to life on their device.”

Walmart and Hewlett-Packard have teamed for a $300 computer. The computer, which is priced like a netbook but built like a full-fledged laptop, features a 250GB hard drive, 3 GB of RAM, a DVD burner, a 15.6 inch screen and is powered by Microsoft’s Windows 7. Designed exclusively for Walmart, the computer could be a major victory for shoppers looking for the power of bigger laptop for the price of a netbook.

Leaked photo’s of Microsoft’s Courier hit the web yesterday. The booklet, which is rumored to be similar to Apple’s secret tablet, features two 7-inch multi-touch screens, which fold together like a book. The Courier also features a built-in camera and Wi-Fi connection and may be key player in the burgeoning tablet business.

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo filed an anti-trust lawsuit against Intel, noting that the chip manufacturer made illegal bribes to computer manufacturers in order to get placement of its chips on their machines. The suit is similar to one brought upon Intel in Europe, in which the EU ruled against Intel and required the company to pay a fine of $1.45 billion.

EMI will begin selling instantly recorded live concerts at its artists shows. The largest recorded music company in the world hopes its new Abbey Road Live series will allow fans to purchase a live recording of a concert immediately following the show on either CD, DVD, USB or through a digital download. While the service has been around for years, EMI hopes a widespread push in North America and Europe will help the label recoup low album sales.

Best Buy currently offers Netflix streaming through Best Buy branded Blu-ray players, however, bringing an online streaming service to market accomplishes one of the company’s biggest goals. “To have broad availability in the marketplace, across multiple devices.”

Twitter is expanding its language services and finally making the service available in Spanish. While users have been able to write in their own languages, Twitter in Spanish translates the entire site to the language, which the company hopes will make the service more attractive to Spanish speaking users worldwide. The company plans on readying the French, German and Italian languages for use shortly.

The T-Mobile USA network experienced a massive outage yesterday. Customers trying to access the mobile web and send calls endured great pains while the network was down. It is estimated that the outage began around 5:29 pm and lasted for eight hours.

According to many reports, Apple is currently working on a subscription television service for iTunes. Apple is currently shopping the deal, which would cost consumers an estimated $30 a month, with all major networks. While details are slim, a subscription offer could be similar to “TV Everywhere,” while also being the first major TV subscription service available on the web.

Paramount is getting into the memory card game and will release Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on a USB drive. While studios and record companies have flirted with the medium over the years, usually in limited quantities, a deal between Paramount and Kingstone, a USB drive manufacturer, could make the format more popular, with additional titles coming in the future. The real question is will consumers pay $30 for a jump drive they cannot directly hook up to their television?

eBay is increasing PayPal’s functionality through the new PayPal X software. The new feature will allow users to make purchases with PayPal inside of applications and games without having to sign in separately. The company hopes to integrate the software with video games, social networks, mobile applications and other services, to make PayPal “easier for you to use.”

Apple is thwarting hackers and netbook afficiandos by upgrading its Snow Leopard operating system. Netbook users often hack the Snow Leopard operating system in order to run it on netbooks, making the small machines run like Mac’s rather than factory mini-computers. While the upgrade will render Snow Leopard useless on netbooks, older versions of the operating system will still run on netbooks.

Marvell, the chip maker not the entertainment company, announced that it is set to enter the eReader world. the company will market new digital content platforms that work with E-Ink, the electronic paper company who helped develop Amazon’s Kindle. Three offerings, including the enTourage Edge, which blends the features of an eReader with a netbook, will hit retail stores in early 2010.

After introducing a new Lists feature to select users last week, Twitter has now made Lists available to all Twitter users. Lists give Twitter users the ability to organize tweets into different categories, helping to ease the following and viewing process. Users will also be able to share lists openly, which will benefit followers by giving them filtered access to the best Twitter accounts to follow.

HTC’s Droid Eris, the manufacturer’s first Google Android phone for Verizon Wireless, will retail reportedly retail for $99, after a $100 mail in rebate. The 8GB smart phone is powered by Android 1.5, an updated version of the operating system, and features a built-in video camera, amongst other popular features. Droid Eris and the Droid from Motorola will both hit Verizon stores this coming Friday and will give consumers a new option in purchasing a quality smart phone.

Sony’s new slim 250GB PS3 has already hit Best Buy warehouses and will be available for purchase tomorrow. The new console is essentially the same as the 120 GB and will retail for $349.99. For fifty dollars more than the 120GB, customers will have the ability to store more than twice the amount of data, films, games and other applications and downloads on the console.

According to a recent filing with the FCC, Flip is set to bring a new product called Flipshare TV to market. While details haven’t been announced, the new device is expected to wirelessly feed video uploaded to a computer directly to a connected television. The product could be a great equalizer for users looking to watch home made video on their television simply, giving another reason to purchase its signature handheld Flip HD video cameras.

Netflix wll begin offering its Watch Instantly service through Nintendo’s Wii. While rumors have been circulating, especially after Netflix reached a deal with Sony to include Watch Instantly with the PS3, sources say the Wii could be packaged with the service before the holiday shopping season begins. Making Watch Instantly available on all three major gaming consoles could not only help Netflix increase subscribers, but it may also give consumers more content, as Netflix is constantly working on increasing the amount of content on its instant streaming service.

Apple unveiled a software update for Apple TV that it hopes will improve its functionality. The update includes a new interface for the product, as well as support for Apple’s new iTunes LP format. While Apple TV has yet to catch on with consumers for a number of reasons, Apple hopes that making the service as easily navigable as iTunes and adding more content will make Apple TV more attractive to consumers.

The NBA is set to allow fans to stream games on mobile phones for $40 a year. The move by the National Basketball Association, which is similar to the MLB’s mobile streaming service, will allow fans to stream up to 40 games a week. The service, which will be available for the iPhone and on both T-Mobile and Verizon’s Android handsets, will also give users the ability to rewind 30 seconds while streaming, letting users manually control instant replay.

Two new companies are allowing people to pay for products with their cell phone numbers. Zong and Obopay give users the ability to link their credit cards to their mobile phone number through their website, through which customers can pay simply by entering their phone number. While both companies are hoping their simplified version of checking out will be attractive to users, its still too early to tell whether or not customers will gravitate towards such a service.

Google will allow Android phone users the ability to get turn-by-turn directions when using Google Maps on their phone. The feature update to the application also includes voice-powered search and will be exclusively available on phones running Android. The turn-by-turn feature is enabled by GPS, which is packaged with the new Droid phone, which will be available next Friday on the Verizon Wireless network.

Google’s new music search service is now live. As predicted, when searching for a song through Google, the search results will pull small links from Lala, iLike, Rhapsoy and Pandora before regular search results. In most cases, when a user clicks on the searched song, a pop up window player will appear with the song available for free listening.

Peek is reportedly bringing a Twitter-only handheld device to market. The TwitterPeek, which includes coverage and doesn’t need or offer Wi-Fi, is currently available for pre-sale on Amazon, with a price of $199. The real question is, Will users flock to a device for Twitter only, even though they can accomplish the same tasks on their phone?

Pandora is now giving users the chance to share songs and stations with friends on social networks. The streaming music sight will also allow its users the chance to gift stations to friends on Facebook and other Pandora users. Pandora hopes that sharing stations and songs on Twitter and Facebook will turn potential users onto new music, while also exposing potential users to Pandora.

Google is also working on its Google Voice service. The search giant will limit the number of phone numbers blocked by the Internet phone service. The decision comes during an FCC review of Google Voice, which found that the service was prone to blocking calls to certain number. The FCC wants Google’s service, like land line and mobile phone plans, to be able to access all intact numbers seamlessly, in order to ensure quality of product for consumers.

The US Government is scared that a swine flu epidemic could crash the countries broadband infrastructure. A report released by the US Accountability Office said that if 40% of employees and students were at home sick, there is a high likely hood they will be on the Internet, hence causing broadband congestion. While 40% of the workforce being affected by H1N1 may seem ludicrous, the government agency suggests precautions, like slowing data transfers in order to fuel financial markets and security networks, may be necessary if such a scenario were to happen.

Tesla’s electric Roadster broke the record for most miles by an electric vehicle. The Roadster cruised 313 miles through the Australian outback on a single charge before running out of power. The car broke Tesla’s previous record of 241 miles on a single charges, which shows gigantic growth for the life and power of electric car batteries.

Roku, the company who produces set-top boxes for Netflix compatibility, unveiled new HD model boxes. Both the SD, which will retail for $79.99, and the HD-XR ($129.9) include built-in wireless connection, which founder Anthony woods believes will make “it easier and more reliable to start enjoying movies, TV shows, sports and the best online content available, all on the living room TV.” Roku’s new systems, which will also feature a store will thousands of titles from Netflix and Amazon VOD, comes as Netflix is bolstering its Watch Instantly service through deals with video game console manufacturers.

Verizon reveal its new Google Android phones today. The Droid and the Droid Eris will both be available at retail stores November 6th. Verizon hopes the phone will keep current customers from switching to AT&T for the popular iPhone.
