I am only half-way through the first book, but it is already far and away the best book on the subject that I have seen.

I've read several others and I swear that half of them seem like bad rap videos where they spend the whole book telling me how rich they are, what cars they drive, how big their crib is and letting me know about all their bling. Those books are all flash with very little substance. That's not what attracts me and I suspect it does very little to attract solid investors into the business. I'm a husband and father of two that doesn't care so much about being filthy rich, but does care a great deal about being able to use investing to provide a good life for my family and be able to pass something solid on to my children. I suspect people that are attracted to the flashy books fail at a precipitous rate in the business.

I'm a university business teacher and have an MBA, and I've taught a number of introductory courses in business finance, including processes for sizing up general corporate investments. I'm also familiar with methods for valuing stocks and bonds. I'm also a bit new to the United States so the implications of U.S. tax laws aren't entirely second-nature for me. Before reading this book, I had also purchased a couple small, single family investment properties that have worked out satisfactorily so far, but wanted to refine my approach using terms and methods that are native to the real estate investment industry. As an educator, I not only expect authors to provide information, but also, to help you practice your skills. At this point, I have read through to page 439, and I must say it is a good book. Everyone seems to agree that it is one of the, if not the standard introductory textbook on real estate finance. So, overall, I have been very pleased.

However, I must say that the book has a number of errors in it. Most of them are no big deal...formatting issues, minor miscalculations, inconsistent assumptions throughout the example problems. But geez, didn't anyone edit this thing?
