[WEB] Marc Bernier – Folk Musician

Though I did this site about seven years ago, I still really like the look and feel of this site. It really captures his personality and work ethic.

Marc wanted a site that would showcase both his stage performances and CDs as well as his business making and selling bodhrans (a hand-held drum used primarily in Celtic/Irish folk music).

The underlying technology is a little outdated. It’s table-based static HTML with a dash of CSS to handle the typography. I’d love to redesign this site using WordPress.

[WEB] Healy Flute and Fife Company

We designed and wrote the copy for the Healy Flute & Fife Company’s first website. Healy makes and plays high quality wooden flutes and fifes intended primarily for folk music. This site was coded and positioned entirely with CSS styles and a dash of Flash. Just click here for a better view of this site’s front page.

He has since moved to another website designer, but we still like to showcase original design that we did for his company.

[PRINT] Quadrant Software’s “Looks Count”

This series of print pieces promote Quadrant Software’s series of document management solutions and application integrations. The audience for these pieces were IT professionals working with IBM’s iSeries 400 (AS/400) mid-range computer systems. Some of these pieces were mailed, but the majority of them were used as handouts at trade shows and user group conferences.

Copy and concept were done by us. Finished design was done by Mike Deluise.

Unfortunately, the fundraising event promoted in this flyer never actually occurred, but we still like the design and copy we created for the flyer.

This was one of the first pieces we did for an animal rescue league in the non-profit industry.

Document management isn’t one of the most scintillating subjects even if you are in the IT industry. Quadrant Software wanted something that would stand out in the mail pile that lands on the desk of the average IT manager. We decided to go with a theme that would be both unique and unexpected from a technology company. That said, we still had to effectively deliver their product message to the prospective customer. Quadrant Software enjoyed a very high response rate to this mailing campaign.

We came up with the design concept and copy. Finished design for this piece was done by Mike Deluise.

This 5.5 x 8.5, two-sided flyer design for the Varnum Continentals promotes the two facilities that they own, the Varnum House Museum and the Varnum Memorial Armory. This item is intended purely as handout or mail insert. We both designed and wrote the copy for this piece.

We both designed and wrote the copy for this piece. The Varnum Continentals own the Varnum House Museum and wanted a print piece to promote use of the museum grounds for weddings and other events. We decided on a postcard to make the piece easy to carry as handout and good for mailing.

[WEB] General Society of Colonial Wars

This project was completed in December 2009. The Rhode Island chapter of The General Society of Colonial Wars is a historical, genealogical, educational and social organization with constituent societies in 30 states as well as the District of Columbia and the British Isles. It was instituted to perpetuate the memory of those events in American colonial history which took place within the period May 13, 1607 to April 19, 1775.

The RI Society wanted a basic site without a lot of moving parts. At the same time, they wanted a clean, functional look that lends itself to their emphasis on U.S. history. Because content on the site rarely changes, they opted away from a content management system (like WordPress or Drupal). We used CSS to accomplish many of these goals.

[CASE STUDY] ExecuTime and Stillwater, OK

When it came to tracking and reporting employee work time, the City of Stillwater, OK, wasn’t radically different from a lot of city governments out there today. Though, to hear Lavicky talk about it, that wasn’t necessarily a bragging point…

“Our work week runs from Thursday midnight through Wednesday midnight,” explains Lavicky, Stillwater’s Vice President of Information Technology. “So, on Thursday morning, when payroll has to be turned in, it used to be a madhouse trying to get employees to sign their timesheet, trying to find the supervisors to sign off on their timesheets, trying to get everything arranged alphabetically for payroll and getting it down there by the deadline.”

The root cause of this weekly madhouse was a mixed system of antiquated time clocks (and the required accessories: paper cards, ribbons, etc.) and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. All of which required huge amounts of manual operation to enter, track, and report work hours for roughly 500 city employees operating out of city hall and ten remote locations. …

Based in Little Rock, Arkansas, Maverick operates a combined iSeries and Microsoft Windows shop managing roughly 275 office employees in addition to its driving fleet. Their staff spans nine locations across the United States.While their old time management software wasn’t quite as archaic as filling out and calculating paper time cards by hand, it still left a lot to be desired. …
