1.	What is NEET?
	NEET stands for National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test. NEET has been proposed by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt, of India and Medical Council of India (MCI). NEET has been proposed for: Undergraduate (NEET-UG) Medical Courses like MBBS, BDS etc. Post Graduate (NEET-PG) Medical Courses like M.S., M.D. etc. NEET-UG will be the common entrance test for MBBS course across the country for almost all government and private medical Colleges/Universities.
2.	Why NEET?
	To create an umbrella or single entrance exam for all medical aspirants in India. Currently, India has 271 Medical Colleges (138 Govt. Colleges + 133 Private Colleges), offering a total of over 31000 MBBS seat. Till now admission to these seats was done through national level and state level entrance exams. There were over 25 such different Medical Entrance Examinations in India for admission into various Govt. & Pvt. Medical colleges. On an average a student appears in 7-9 entrance exams, thereby causing unnecessary stress on them as well as on parents. Additionally, giving so many exams creates lot of financial burden for the parents since each examination involves expenses like Application Fee & commuting to appear for the entrance test in various cities/at various test centres. So NEET will avoid unnecessary wastage of time, effort & money. Moreover, multiple exams also pose the challenge of preparing for different syllabi and patterns for students. This further increases the stress among students.
3.	Possible issues due to NEET
	NEET will be controlled by the central board; this would induce pressure into the minds of the students belonging to different State boards. Their state medical policies, syllabi and regulations may not be applicable under NEET NEET system does not include the management quota seats; it’s again a big hole in the system. People may doubt the merit listing of NEET. Earlier, the students had many opportunities of writing the entrance tests; on an average, a student would write around 8-10 entrance tests to finally get admitted in his/her dream/desirable medical colleges/universities. So, the chances of getting a seat were high; if a student lost in one entrance exam, then he/she could work and make it on the other, but those opportunities would not be possible in NEET system. It is a single medical entrance system, hence the chance is only one. Hence, if a student loses in this exam, it would end up in shattering his/her dreams on medical field The top notch medical colleges like AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) have not been include in the NEET list. Since it is a single medical entrance system for around 31, 000 medical seats, the consistent of quality and implementation of error-free system is highly questionable!
4.	NEET Pattern – Proposed
	NEET is proposed to be conducted in on 5th May 2013 (Sunday). The application forms shall be available in 2nd week of November 2012. A student will be able to apply offline or online, based on his/her convenience. Exam Pattern: Total Number of Questions: 180 Qs Physics: 45 Qs Chemistry: 45 Qs Botany: 45 Qs Zoology: 45 Qs Total Time: 3 hours (180 Minutes) 1/4th negative marking Exam Language/Medium: English and Hindi
5.	Impact of NEET
	NEET shall replace: All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT – the national level medical entrance test for MBBS courses), which till 2012 will be used for admissions into 15% seats of all government medical colleges except that of in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. All individual MBBS entrance exams, which are being organized individually by state or colleges themselves (e.g. AFMC, OJEE, EAMCET, D-PMT, UP-CPMT, U-PMT, R-PMT, HR-PMT, WB-JEE, JK-CET etc.) The government is yet to take a decision on adopting NEET for admission to other allied medical courses viz. veterinary, agriculture, horticulture, nursing courses etc.
6.	NEET Merit List & Rankings *– Proposed*
	NEET body (i.e. CBSE) shall provide: National as well as State level ranking or merit list will be prepared for all the appearing candidates Rank Usage for NEET qualified students: National Rank: A student can use National Rank to take admission in any of the NEET affiliated MBBS colleges in India. State Rank: A student can use State Rank to take admission in any of the affiliated colleges in the state from here he/she has done class XI & XII or holds a domicile. The NEET guidelines require that 85 per cent of the MBBS seats in the medical colleges across the state be reserved under the state quota. The remaining 15 per cent remain open to candidates from other states.
7.	Benefits of NEET
	One common examination for admission into almost all of the MBBS colleges in India. No need to apply for several entrance examinations. The students will be free and relaxed after appearing in only one exam. Stress-level will be considerably reduced which otherwise used to be there due to various entrance examinations spread over a period of three months (April-May-June). Substantial financial savings for parents.
8.	NEET Controllers & Syllabus
	The NEET has been recommended by MHRD Medical Council of India (MCI) has accepted the recommendation and notified final syllabus for the upcoming NEET on its website. The notified syllabus for NEET- UG has been achieved after review of various State syllabi as well as those prepared by CBSE, NCERT and COBSE. The new syllabus will establish a uniformity across the country keeping in view the relevance of different areas in medical education. NEET will be conducted by CBSE.
9.	Eligibility Criteria for NEET – *Proposed*
	XII Academic Eligibility (Minimum percentage): 50% for General category student & 40% for SC/ST/OBC category student in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together (i.e. aggregate). Students must pass Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English subjects individually. Entrance Qualifying Criteria: Qualifying criterion has been changed from 50% of absolute marks in NEET to 50 percentile in NEET to ensure that no seat remains unfilled. Age Eligibility (Minimum percentage): Minimum 17 years at the time of admission Upper age limit relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST/OBC Number of Attempts: A maximum of three attempts
10.	NEET – Reservation Policies
	The Union health ministry has confirmed the state governments that: Their existing reservation policies would not be disturbed under the proposed scheme State wise eligibility merit lists will be prepared for the respective state authorities to admit students for admission in accordance with their admission criteria in the institutions located in the respective states.
11.	NEET – Expected Participation
	A minimum estimate is that 8 Lac plus students may appear in the first NEET to be held in May, 2013. The maximum figures could be somewhere between 10 - 11 Lac students.
12.	Preparation for NEET
	It is expected that a student should start preparing in the beginning of Class-XI and continue till Class-XII (for two years). Since, there will be stiff competition for admission in good institutions like AFMC, MAMC, JIPMER (to secure top ranks in NEET); many students may even start preparing right from Class-IX and X to Class-XII. Since the admission criteria does not include Board marks (apart from minimum eligibility), a student must prepare in a focused manner for NEET, from a reputed national level coaching institute.
13.	NEET Sample Papers
	No 'official' sample paper has been released so far. A Sample Paper may be expected by CBSE by Sept-Oct 2012. However, some private coaching institutes may make the sample papers available very soon.
14.	Role of Coaching for Success in NEET
	Since the NEET pattern is going to be a new pattern for all the students across India, they must bank on a national level PMT specialist to achieve their dream of becoming a doctor. The pattern analysis and preparing a student with the help of focused teaching, study material and test papers is what a reputed coaching institute can offer in the uncertain territory of NEET 2013. Since, NEET is going to be a national level exam, a country-wide network of a coaching institute can help a student gauge his/her performance viz-a-viz other students across India, who are preparing for NEET. 15.	Motions reported against NEET
	Among the states that were against the introduction of NEET in 2012 included West Bengal, Maharashtra, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Gujarat and Goa had showed readiness to join NEET from 2013-14 Andhra Pradesh had sought exemption for two years, saying it would join from 2014-15

Accordingly, the Central Board of Secondary Education will conduct the National Entrance Test for admission to MBBS / BDS Course 05th May, 2013.

Admission to MBBS and BDS Courses in the institutions approved by the Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India are subject to merit position of candidates in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (Under-Graduate), 2013.

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test NEET This system is expected to be amended from the year 2011 onwards. Before its inception itself, the system has won several opinions; both positive and negative! Pros and Cons of the Medical Entrance – NEET Though the system is been designed with positive objectives, expecting favorable medical consequences; it has surrounded with people’s perception about the system implementation; some voting for advantages and others were serious about their thoughts of its disadvantages! Pros: It would definitely demolish the jeopardy happened due to the countless entrance exams that were conducted by every colleges/universities for medical admissions. This single system for medical entrance would solve the stress due to the complexities of numerous entrance tests! It would save time, energy and money of the students. The students would have spent a lot every time, while applying for the entrance exams; such costs would be saved from now onwards! This system is certainly a positive growth towards the quality enhancements of the medical education standards in India. In fact, the MCI has designed the system very strictly that all the admissions would be made merit based and even, it is insisting the same standard for management quota too. The students’ sufferings due to multiple entrance exams are not negligible! The fact that at the end of every academics, there were numerous students running to the Supreme Court requesting justice on the cases, where they were treated worst due to the biased admissions; flawed questions, etc… could not be forgotten! The efforts and consideration of MCI on these issues are really appreciable and the thought of single medical entrance test is awe-inspiring and it is definitely would be a perfect solution to these problems! Cons: Now, the medical competition has become an open ground, as it would be the common entrance medical test and it would be controlled by the central board; this would further induce pressure into the minds of the students. When the entrance exam is implemented nationwide, the State level policies and regulations wouldn’t be taken care of! The system didn’t include the management quota seats; it’s again a big hole in the system. Having created a standard quality system based on merits, but creating a loop hole to management based seats would not complete the purpose of its creation. Earlier, the students had many opportunities of writing the entrance tests; according to a survey, on an average, a student writes around 10 entrance tests to finally get admitted in his/her dream/desirable medical colleges/universities. So, the chances of getting a seat were high; if a student loses in one entrance exam, then he/she could work and make it on the other, but those opportunities would not be possible in this system. It is a single medical entrance system, hence the chance is only one; really meager! Hence, if a student loses in this exam, it would end up in shattering his/her dreams on medical field! The AIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) has been the top medical educational provider from its inception in the year 1956. But, the NEET didn’t include institutions like, AIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences); which is a dream to any medical student. Since it is a single medical entrance system for around 30, 000 medical seats, the consistent of quality and implementation of error-free system is highly questionable! All India Medical Entrance Exam For MBBS The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) will allow class XII students to sit in a single entrance examination to get admission to almost all medical colleges in India, including private medical colleges, from 2011 academic year. A single merit list will be created for close to 35,000 MBBS seats across the country, which will show state, minorities and SC/ST quotas. Management quota candidates should come from the national merit list. The objective was to set up a standard for basic medical education. Under-graduate courses at the AIIMS in New Delhi and Post-graduate Institute for Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh may be outside the NEET’s purview as these two institutes were set up by separate laws, which need to be amended in Parliament to introduce the new system. What is NEET?

There is a major change in medical entrance exam, all exam will be combine and it will be NEET. The first country-wide common entrance examination for 42,000 seats will be conducted by CBSE in 2013.

About NEET:

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to MBBS (NEET-UG) and Postgraduate Courses (NEET-PG) will be prepared by the National Council of Education, Research and Training (NCERT), The NEET will be the only entry route in nearly 42,000 MBBS seats in private and government medical colleges, adding that the mammoth examination would be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. The modalities for NEET-PG (MD/MS) for 20,600 seats are also being worked out. The admissions through NEET are applicable from the academic year commencing from 2013-14.

In every possibility, the prospered NEET is likely to be an extension of AIPMT. With NEET turning to be a single entrance for medical admissions, the number taking this examination is likely to go up as compared to those taking AIPMT. So a two stage examinations itself may be doubtful. But these are all speculations. Only an official announcement can clarify this aspect.

The fate of admissions to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi; Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puthussery, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, Varanasi etc., which are National Institutions, is also uncertain at this stage. AIIMS, JIPMER etc had been having their own entrances for MBBS admissions. BHU used to have two sources of admission with 15 % seats being filled through the CBSE AIPMT Counseling and the remaining through the two stage entrance of BHU itself. The big question before medical aspirants is whether these institutions will also come under the purview of the NEET. Being Government institutions, it is expected that Government would not take a decision otherwise.

Why NEET :

Because of the countless entrance exams that were conducted by every colleges/universities for medical admissions a single medical entrance exam is been planed. This single entrance exam system will reduce the stress on students.

As per the amendment made by Govt. of India on Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations on December 21, 2010, for entrance into Post Graduate Medical Courses (MD/MS/Diploma), single eligibility cum entrance examination namely National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) becomes compulsory with effect from 2013-2014 academic session.

Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India authorised National Board of Examination (NBE) to conduct the NEET-PG exam. NBE will conduct NEET-PG, 2012 through Computer Based Test (CBT) from November 23 to December 6, 2012 at 33 centres in different cities of India. The In-service candidates, who go through NEET-PG, will be called for seat allotment from their respective State quota in order of merit at RIMS Imphal. Open candidates will also undergo the same process. The candidates must have passed MBBS Course from recognized Medical College/ Institution, and after compulsory rotary internship they must have full registration from either Medical Council of India or State Medical Councils. Subject-wise nomination will not be allowed.

Counselling for Seat allocation will be given to successful candidates in order of merit in the NEET-PG exam. This means that candidates shall be given counselling according to their performance; the highest mark scorer will have the option to choose any subject he or she likes and so accordingly. The guidelines prepared for merit-based selection by Supreme Court will be followed. Online Registration is being opened from October 4 -November 12, 2012.
