The Medical and Life Sciences industry in San Antonio (SA) is not new, and the history reflects a consistent example of successful public-private partnerships, particularly reflecting the strong military presence. This brief treatise describes SA history from more than a century of medical, life sciences, and convergent technology industries and entities. SA has had a recorded history from the St. Anthony day mass in 1691 through numerous immigrations, its selection as the Texas state capital in 1773, opening the first school in 1789, Battle of the Alamo in 1836, Bexar County organized and city incorporation 1836-37, and a long history of medicine and health. In 1853 the Bexar County Medical Society (BCMS) in San Antonio was the first county medical society formed in the state of Texas and had 93 members in a city a population of 12,000 (BCMS now has over 4000 members and is the 8th largest in the US). In addition to medicine and life sciences, other convergent technology industries include aerospace, information technology, telecommunications technologies, “ArtsMedia”, and manufacturing.
