Pharmacy Technology Certification Program

For every student enrolling in this curriculum, the following benefits will be awarded:

Upon completion of the program, a total of 37 credits in pharmaceutical sciences have been acquired. Although these credits may or may not transfer towards a student’s degree plan, a student manifests great determination in oneself by successfully graduating from a pharmacy technology program.

It shows universities and employers that not only do you have the intellect to learn the material, but you want it bad enough to take on what lies outside the curriculum and grab some opportunities on your own.
There is a 100% passing score for students who take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam after finishing the program. Dr. Lim has not had any student fail this exam since the program has been created!
Intravenous Admixture Certification is incorporated into the pharmacy technology program. During the second semester, students will participate in 25 hours of laboratory training and take the IV Certification Exam in the classroom. Hence, when the program has been completed, the student meets the requirements to work in retail or institutional pharmacies.

**According to one of the institutional pharmacists that I interned with, JCHAO is becoming stricter about where and how pharmacy technicians are earning their IV Certificate. Though the company is permitted to certify the technician, it is now more preferable for the technician to obtain their Intravenous Certification outside of the institution.
A total of 320 internship hours have been earned by graduation of the program.

More advantageous, the student gains experience and training in both a retail pharmacy and an institutional pharmacy (160 hours per clinical).

VOLUNTEER TO EDUCATE THE YOUTH

Junior Achievement of Southeast Houston

My first encounter with Junior Achievement was back at Lowery Elementary School. The JA Program informed children about success in money management at a level compatible with each age group’s abilities. In fifth grade, one of the JA representatives asked us what we wanted to do a decade from now. I remember thinking about goals and created my first one ever, “In ten years, I want to be a teacher.”

1.) Taking Initiative

Visit your nearest JA Organization to ask for a Volunteer Registration Form. Also request to set an appointment with a volunteer specialist to get more information.

The program offers volunteer services for grades Kindergarten through High School. Decide on which grade level you would like to start off teaching.

One of the first questions they will ask you is, “Which school district are you interested in volunteering at?” Do some research ahead of time to see what school districts are in your surrounding area, and choose at least two locations that you’d like to confirm with during the interview.

The Operations Manager should contact you shortly after you submit your application. If more than two days have passed, contact the Junior Achievement’s Office to follow-up on any delays.

2.) The JA Volunteer Program

Operations Management will update you via the e-mail address you provided on you form. He/She will provide the information needed for an upcoming presentation:

-School name and location (physical address, phone number, etc.)
-Grade-level and training required prior to presenting
-Volunteer date and contact information for your area
-Presentation length and materials provided by the program

If you are available on that date, respond promptly and check your e-mail for confirmation.

The materials packet will arrive by UPS mail to the address you provided on your application form. If the packet has not arrived within 3 to 5 days, contact your JA Office immediately.

Welcome viewers! My name is Linda Nguyen, and I am an IV Certified Pharmacy Technician. I earned my certificates in Spring 2010 at the age of 21, but I have come to realized these were achievable at 18 years old. Preparation- I didn’t understand the role of it back then, but now, I learned: it is the seed of all success.

At the moment, this website is dedicated to sharing useful information for college students like me pursuing the pharmaceutical career path. I hope that one day, perhaps even years after finishing school, that Medical-Pharm will be able to become a source of in-depth information between medical and pharmaceutical discoveries, with support from entry-level students (like me, right now!) up to highly-respected members of the medical-health community.
