California law allows that every year, you can change your Medicare Supplement policy on your birthday. This is like having an open enrollment every year!

Topeka – Kansans with Medicare supplement plans will see more plans and offering some modern plans June 1 says Sandy Praeger, Commissioner of Insurance.

Two new Medicare supplement plans (called Medigap plans) are available on June 1st, and four plans will no longer be offered. There are 12 types of plans currently, Plans A through Plan L.

“The charges will provide lower out-of-pocket expenses to consumers and give some additional benefits in the ongoing plans,” Commission Praeger said.

Medicare supplement plans are offered by private insurance companies to cover the benefits not covered by Medicare. Medicare is a federal program, not regulated by The Insurance Department of Kansas (KID). The KID however, does have the authority to regulate medicare supplement plans.

“Medigap plans available in Kansas must abide by all federal and state laws that are designed to protect consumers,” said Praeger. “However, because these plans are sold through private insurers, prices for the same plan may vary from company to company.”
