Opko Health promoted Adam Logal to Senior VP and CFO following the resignation of its top financial executive. The Miami-based biotech and pharmaceutical company (NYSE: OPK) led by billionaire entrepreneur Dr. Phillip Frost had a big day on Tuesday as it announced the nationwide launch of its 4Kscore blood test for prostate cancer. Its stock closed up 39 cents, or 4.2 percent, to $9.17. Logal replaces Juan F. However, aromatase inhibitors (AIs) used in postmenopausal women with breast cancer and androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT) used in men with prostate cancer contribute to substantial bone loss, thereby increasing the risk of osteoporotic fractures. Evidence-based guidelines, therefore, urge oncology practices to screen these patients for bone loss and, if needed, provide treatment to maintain bone health. In addition to lifestyle modification and calcium or vitamin D supplementation, bone protection strategies include treatment with bisphosphonates and denosumab, a monoclonal antibody against RANK ligand.
