3. Change Protocol to SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)

4. Type in your iPhone's IP Address in the Server area.

It was bound to happen. The iPhone's capabilities were often negated by the hordes of users looking to occupy their 3.5 inch screens with more provocative applications.

The wallpaper app from firmwares 1.1.X was littered with scantily clad females and youtube was overrun by overzealous instructional videos aptly named iPorn or how to get porn on your iPhone. Most videos were a wash to expose perverts or become "rick rolled".

iSteamy is an app that takes the pornographic material you scour the internet for and melds it into an organized, tabulated package for the iPhone. Categories include: pictures, audio, video and a steam room. Registration is required in some cases. The application also contains a vibrator function, a mobile pay-per-view, merchandise and community page.

The solution to what?
As many iPhone and iPod touch owners have discovered, Apple's iTunes App Store has many flaws which render it useless to the common user. Apple has chosen to allow a multitude of ridiculous, worthless, poorly-represented applications through its "strict" screening process, nearly all written by mediocre programmers with a dream of getting rich quick. Many of these programmers game the reviews system, misrepresent their application in the description, and generally try to swindle the honest buyer. Applications generally do not cost much, but small fees add up. The iPhone/iPod community has wasted so much money on these programs, an epidemic has taken hold where people have simply stopped buying apps they aren't certain of so they don't find themselves purchasing yet another waste of a program.

How does Appulo.us help that?
Apple could quite easily solve this problem by implementing a sort of trial period for each application, but they do not. The user is forced to buy blindly without ever getting to try the application first. Appulo.us is a collection of links to allow iPhone and iPod touch users the ability to try out full, unlimited versions of device software before making the decision to buy it.

Doesn't this hurt developers?
Many people have stopped buying applications by independent developers solely out of fear of wasting their money yet again. Even programs that are great are being undersold and pointedly hindered by Apple's allowance of programs like "I Am Rich" and the seventh Sudoku game submitted by a 14-year-old writing his first program. Developers are being hurt by the company they provide their content to.

Unlimited trials are easy to abuse, and there is no denying this fact. However, there is an impressive number of people in the community who do honestly pay developers for software they enjoy after trying it. Having the opportunity to review the sales statistics of a well-reviewed, independently-developed game, the developer experienced a great number of installations by people using the unlimited trial -- but over 99% of these installs were by people who statistically would not have purchased it regardless. A single digit of sales were lost to others who may have purchased the game, and with the trial resulting in purchases that would have otherwise not been made, the end result is strikingly positive.

I came across an article in TouchPodium** that related AppShare and Installous to theft. This was my response to a highly debatable topic, that has no concise answer:

In all fairness, I do believe the creators of the AppShare App released it with a “Try Before You Buy” mentality.

There are numerous instances of complaints regarding Apple’s quality control in regard to what makes it to the AppStore. Those who would pay for an App, only to find it bugged or broken or not what it seemed have no recourse whatsoever.

I am currently working on developing an iPhone App so I can see how this can be a complete disservice to the developers, then again maybe it levels the playing field so that consumers don’t feel shafted.

Regardless, all forms of media will find themselves on the net, freely distributed. Their only support will derive from those who are truly committed to donate or purchase an app they enjoyed and in turn help further development and put a warm meal in the developer’s stomach.

*I Am Rich sold for $999.99, the highest price you can list an app for in the AppStore. It's only function was to execute an easily programmable script that did nothing more than display a red gem on your screen. More than 7 people made this purchase, before one complained.

Apple has recently addressed reports that the lifeblood of the iPhone 3G, the power adapter, contains prongs that are prone to breaking off in your outlet, resulting in electric shock. Rather than downplay the issue as circumstantial, Apple has announced a worldwide recall of all iPhone 3G power adapters.

If you're looking for an iPhone, Craigslist is the best way to go. There's no waiting, it's constantly updated and less than the price of shopping on eBay.

Craigslist's average list price for a 1st Generation 8 GB iPhone is $280-350. The 16 GB receiving $365-$425.
Craigslist's average list price for a 2nd Generation 8 GB iPhone 3G is $499-650. The 16 GB receiving $600-$850.
eBay's prices are, on average, $50-200 higher than Craigslist prices.

Inflating the value of the iPhone cannot be more prevalent than in the online marketplace. There are an illicit majority of local adverts who are greedy, misled, or both.

How to Create Free Custom Ringtones for Your iPhone in 5 Easy Steps

"For iPhone and iPhone 3G Firmware 1.2.X Using Garageband on Mac OSX"

1. Drag the song you would like to use from iTunes* to your desktop

2. Open Garageband** (create a new project, name the file whatever you'd like)^

3. Drag the song from your desktop into the main window of Garageband.

4. Go to Share --> Send Ringtone to iTunes

If you receive a pop up window saying the file is too large, follow these steps:

A. Click Adjust
B. A new yellow bar will appear at the top of your song, showing the acceptable length (this can be adjusted)
C. Go to the Measures Window (the bottom middle blue highlighted area), Click the Down Arrow under the Note Shape, until a Clock Appears. Now you should be able to see the seconds (keep it under 40).

5. You can Adjust*** (or not^^) the part of the song you would like to fit into the new yellow part, then repeat step 4 to Send Ringtone to iTunes.

You can now go to iTunes and see your new ringtone there. Rename it (if you'd like) and Sync to your iPhone.

Photo Steps

Step 1: Dragging from iTunes to Desktop

Step 2: Opening Garageband

Step 3: Drag Song to Garageband

(it's not necessary, but you can delete the default piano track, by highlighting it, then going to track --> delete track)

Step 4: Sharing Ringtone with iTunes

(Step 4c: change the measures window [blue numbers in the bottom center of garageband] to depict time by clicking the down arrow under the "note" symbol, then go to the top and adjust the yellow bar to be under 40 seconds)

Step 5 Beyond: Advanced Adjusting Steps

(double-click song, then highlight area you would like to keep or delete in the new window)

(double-click the highlighted section and it will break your song into two parts)

(delete the part you don't want, make sure you the remaining section is moved to the beginning)

(repeat as necessary)

^ This only needs to be done once, you do NOT need to create a new file for every ringtone.

FuriouSim claims to have a working sim-based unlock for the iPhone.

A large slew of sim-altering devices flooded the market soon after the original iPhone was released. It was only a matter of time before they resurfaced to exploit the carrier locked iPhone 3G.

FuriouSim works by "tricking" your iPhone into believing you are using an AT&T sim card. This "unlocks" the iPhone, allowing you to make calls on your own network.*

Sim-unlocks have notoriously claimed to be impervious to iPhone firmware updates, yet, a relatively unheard of FuriouSim becomes first on the scene with a (claimed) "working" carrier unlock for the iPhone 3G.

The Turbo SIM (also known as TurboSIM) is considered the forerunner of a large family of "Dual SIM" devices (HyperCard, HyperSIM, China3GPP, StealthSim, MagicSIMetc.) that piggyback on a telephone SIM card to alter its normal operation.

More specifically, the Turbo SIM can be used to spoof the IMSI number and authentication key (Ki) supplied by the SIM card to the network, allowing network-locked phones (such as the Apple iPhone[2][3], and more recently NTT DoCoMo and SoftBank phones) to be used on mobile networks for which they were not originally designed or permitted.

1. It is currently available only for Mac OS
2. It jailbreaks all iterations of the iPhone (including 3G*) and iPod Touch
3. You must update to firmware 2.0 (1.2.0) and iTunes 7.7

*it does not currently unlock the iPhone 3G for carrier choice, but does
unlock earlier iPhones that have upgraded to the newer firmware.

Apple friendly in 3G

T-mobile prepares the release of it's iPhone Friendly 3G Data Network.

Much like the critically maligned Playstation 3 Home concept, the overly scrutinied and impetuously anticipated T-mobile 3G network may finally be nearing nationwide launch.

The launch may conveniently coincide with the rumored iPhone 3G price drop in September.

With Apple and AT&T's contract renegotiations in place, there exists the possibility of seeing the iPhone distributed to other carriers (earlier than the subjugated AT&T 5 year term), especially since it is evident that stock holders* have lost faith in Apple's new strategy with AT&T.

*The release of the first iPhone was met with skyrocketing stock values. Apple stocks jumped from $84 (when the first photo was released) and continued to climb until they peaked at $200.

After the "fear-of-recession" crash in the market (around March 2008), the stock dipped to $119, went back to $186 and has now tottered between $150 and $160 (despite the release of the new iPhone 3G, which speculators presumed would have bolstered stock values over the $200 mark).

Apple will not reach it's projected earnings at the end of this quarter. It may be time for a new strategy "sans" AT&T.

It slowly evolved adding a scroll wheel, a miniaturized version, color screen, pictures, an even more miniaturized version, video, wifi, and a fully capable touch screen.

While the iPod was developing in black and white, many clones emerged with color screens, when it had photos, clones had videos, when it only played only a few formats, their clones played many, while it linked only to one itunes capable computer, clones linked to any. Apple makes innovation deliberately slow (such as Classic Nintendo; an article to elaborate coming soon). They keep their features at a minimum, spreading them out across many generations of their product. "Just enough to look good, not enough to fall behind" is the formula that keeps them resilient and innovative.

Apple not including Video Record or MMS as a stock feature on the iPhone doesn't insinuate that they lack the ability of these much in demand features, but denotes the sincere cash incentive to not include them.

Money does indeed talk and it is leading Apple straight to the bank.

Does anyone else get bored with all the hype? Being forced to watch 30 second infomercials for the Samsung Instinct on NBC.com, in-between episodes of 30 rock, is practically trivial on the basis that the likely hood of an "iPhone Killer" or comparable is far from being created.

A year ago, Verizon claimed to have an iPhone killer in the works with their bland LG Voyager "Yawn" touchscreen bust; it quickly faded. Even with the LG Prada KE "Nerd" 850 project, Verizon is far from closing the gap.

(I bet every failed "iPhone killer" must make that wound of being Apple's first choice as an iPhone distributor sting a little more. Don't beat yourself up Verizon, Apple will most likely hunger to have their iPhone take on the Blackberry on all carriers, sooner rather than later.)
