If you like to use the thumbnail view, especially for browsing through photos and images you must know that it is possible to lower the thumbnail size and quality by editing the following registry keys.
Open the registry and navigate to :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft \ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer
Create a new DWORD value called ThumbnailSize, and set the value between 32 and 256.
Then create another DWORD value called ThumbnailQuality, and set the value between 50 and 100.

Using FTP – File Transport Protocol

Let’s assume:
- We have registered a domain name (for example domain.com or domain.net)
- We found a hosting server
- We built the site; the files are on our computer
The next step you need to take is uploading the site on the server, or in other words the transfer of the files that the site consists of on your computer on the web server.
FTP – File Transport Protocol is the used protocol for uploading and downloading the files from and on a server.
The upload can be made in three methods, using:
- Specific FTP commands, typed from the keyboard similar to the MS-DOS ones
- A specialized software named FTP client

- The administration webpage of the account, indicated by the server administrator
The first method, of using FTP commands is not very used because it implies knowing the commands unlike the other two where the operating mode is graphic. The FTP Client is a type of software that will open a FTP session (connection), on the 21 port, between the local computer and the FTP server.
In order to set the FTP client, the following data is used by the server administrator:
FTP Host Address – can be the name of the FTP server or its IP address
FTP Site Username – the name of the user for the authentication
FTP Site Password – the used password for the authentication
FTP Site Connection Port – the 21 port
Loging Type – Normal
Transfer Type – preferable Auto-detect
The FTP clients, no matter the producer, have a similar graphic interface with 5 distinct zones:
- The required parameters for the connection (zone 1)
- Local Panel (the files on the local computer – zone 2)
- Remote Panel (the files on the web server, in the directory properly arranged for our domain – zone 3)
- Log Panel (the list of the messages from the local computer and the replies from the FTP server – zone 4)
- Queue Panel (the list of the send and received files – zone 5)

Using this is easy, all you have to do is right click on the desired folder and select from the menu the operation you intent to do (for instance: upload, download).
FTP Clients examples: CuteFTP, SmartFTP or the free versions FileZilla si WS FTP LE.
In order to transfer the files using the account administration webpage press the File Manager. The files will upload directly into the public_html directory from the web server. This method is good when you transfer only few files because it implies some operations that run every file by itself.
But if you want to transfer several files or an entire website it’s strongly recommended using a FTP Client, because it allows you to simultaneously select and upload more files.

Transform Windows XP SP2 in XP SP3 without upgrading

You probably already know, Microsoft stopped the support for Windows XP SP2 in July last year (2010). That means that no matter what security or vulnerability problem that gets discovered on the Windows operating systems, from the XP versions only SP3 gets patches for those issues, which makes SP2 (and earlier versions) to be more risky. One choice can be upgrading to Windows XP SP3. But even if, this is the most recommended thing to do by all the computer specialists and of course Microsoft, this is not a good solution for all XP users. And that is because, XP Service Pack 3 has some real bugs in it, it actually gained the unstable SP title.

So, if you are still using XP SP2 and you don’t want to upgrade to SP3 (an extremely easy solution would be upgrading to Windows 7 ) because you had some bad times with that SP3, you can solve the problem of the support by convincing the SP2 that he is in fact SP3 (like this, the operating system will remain SP2, but it’ll be identified as being XP SP3) and all this with the help of a small registry hack.
How to transform XP SP2 in XP SP3 with the help of the system registries:
Open Registry Editor (open Run, type regedit and Enter) and look for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Windows
Key in the right panel and the right click on the following entry (DWORD) CSDVersion and select Modify from the displayed menu.
Then edit the hexadecimal value of the entry from 200 to 300 and click OK
Now close regedit and restart the PC to make sure the changes will take effects.
Note: Microsoft doesn’t recommend this method(obviously) because this means a change in the registry, make sure you have a back up of these registry before doing the thing from above.

First up a few definitions

Goto: The Goto Statement allows us to jump to a specific part of the script, like back to Start or the end.
[Place]: When we use the Goto Statement we need a target. The Target or Place is defined by a Colon and a name (:HOME).
Variables (or Var): Variables are small post-it notes that stores information (user input) for later use. In Batch Scripting we declare a variable with the SET command.
ECHO: This Command is used to hide or show feedback to the user. Turning it OFF will make sure everything we do is invisible to the user.
CLS: Clear Screen, empties the CMD-window
Pause: Inserting the PAUSE command will pause the script from running until the user press a key.
START or CALL: Commands used to trigger an event (a batch file, website etc)
Exit: This command ends the script from running

Onto the Script

This script will do many things (to show you it’s possible). Under normal circumstances you would create separate scripts for different functionality or tasks.
