Also popular throughout North Africa, the snaphaunce musket is often highly ornate with gold, silver,brass, glass, beads, and precious stones. They are also distinguisable by their oddly shaped buttstocks which provide more stability for a user mounted on a camel. I have seen some of these pieces before in museum. They take me to another time in mystical places such as Marakesh, Casablanca, and Timbuktu.
