L'OREAL Magic BB cream review!

Recently I tried a new product by L'OREAL. I have been a fan of L'OREAL products for a while and I think they are one of the best drugstore brands out there. I was skeptical to try this BB cream since I haven't been a fan of BB creams in general in the past, but since they had a shade called "fair" and it was only around $8, I thought I would try it out!

This product is so different than anything I have tried! The product comes out almost white with a grainy, bead-like texture. When I applied the product, I was amazed at how much it evened out my skin! It covered redness and made my skin look great! I was happily surprised by this product. The color is great for my very fair and sensitive skin. I have not broken out from this product at all.

Since I purchased this product, I've used it pretty much every day! In fact, most days I just use this product with some concealer and that's it! I don't even need powder with this. I have combo/dry skin and though this product is matte, I don't feel dry or cakey wearing this.

This product claims to prime, perfect, hydrate and correct and I think it lives up to all those expectations! I've used this product on its own but also as a primer for foundation and I love it just as much. I even use less foundation when I use this product as a base since it covers so many imperfections on its own. I do feel like it perfects my skin as well, making it look healthy and clear. Like I mentioned, this product is matte, however it is not dry at all and does feel slightly hydrating. As for correcting, this is the main reason I love this product. It covers redness and acne scars for me wonderfully! I feel confident going out with just this product on if I am in a rush. I typically use two layers of this product just where I have darker scars and imperfections but otherwise one layer is enough!

I highly recommend this product and if you haven't tried it or are contemplating, go pick it up! :-)

Favorite Foundations!

This post is all about my 5 favorite foundations! These are the few that I've consistently used for a long time. I try out new ones occasionally, but I can usually tell right away if I like it or not. Here is a list of my Top 5 Foundations!

1. Glo Minerals Pressed Base

This foundation was recommended to me from my dermatologist. This make up is hypoallergenic and non comedogenic, which is ideal for acne prone skin. I have dry/combination skin and was skeptical at first to use a powder foundation, however, I really love this product! I use a Glo Minerals brush with this foundation and it applies very easily. Since it is a powder, it is easy to use the right amount of coverage needed, from light to heavy. I usually use Maybelline SuperStay 24 hour concealer first to cover redness, then lightly dust the powder all over my face. This foundation has great staying powder, however it might need minor touch ups to prevent a cakey look throughout the day.

2. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural

I LOVE the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural product! I can use it alone (with just some concealer to cover redness) or on top of a liquid or creme foundation. I use this product practically every day I wear make up. It is a very light coverage foundation if used alone, but works great as a setting powder on top of other foundations too. I even blend this in with my Glo Minerals powder when using that foundation for an even, natural look. I love the color selection of this product as well. This powder doesn't look cakey or powdery at all. It has a silky feeling and a natural appearance on the skin. I highly recommend this powder for everyday use!

3. Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation

This is my favorite full/heavy coverage foundation. A very little amount goes a long way with this product. I use a stippling brush or sometimes just my fingers to blend it in. It blends very easily into a natural appearance, but be careful to not use too much. It can look cakey or mask like is too much product is used. The staying power of this foundation is great! I can wear it for 6-10 hours and it still looks great! I use my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural over this (very light amount!) and it looks natural and all my imperfections are covered. I don't even need to use any concealer with this foundation, all my redness is covered! The finish of this foundation is natural/matte. It is a bit pricey, but the tube lasts for a very long time!

4. Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation

This is the newest foundation I've tried and loved! I was skeptical about the product because of the packaging and the fact that it is a creme product. I've tried other creme products on my dry skin and none of them have ever been good for me. I was pleasantly surprised with this product! It blends so easily into the skin and looks very natural. It looks like I don't have any product on, yet it evens out my skin and covers redness and blemishes. The finish of this foundation is natural, not matte but not dewy either. I need to use concealer with this product since it doesn't completely cover my dark acne scars, and sometimes I'll use the concealer beforehand so it blends better. I use my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural on top of this foundation too to control any shine and to set everything. The only thing I dislike about this product is the packaging. I am not a huge fan of the big jar and having to dip your fingers into the foundation every time, but it is only a slight annoyance and it's not enough for me to stop using the foundation! I highly recommend this product especially since it can be found at any drugstore for under $15!

5. Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation

I really like this foundation for everyday light to medium coverage. This foundation has a massive selection of color choices and has variations based on skin undertones. I apply this foundation with a damp beauty blender sponge and dab the product into my skin. This gives the most natural appearance in my opinion. I have to use a few layers of this to get an even coverage to my skin, but when I'm finished, it looks just like an enhanced version of my skin. The finish is natural and slightly dewy, which is great for my dry skin. I use some concealer to cover any redness and use MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural over it to set it. I recommend it for people that need light to medium coverage with a natural skin like finish.

To set all my make up, I use this setting spray to enhance the wear and longevity of the products I use!

Hair Care Routine!

This post is all about my hair care routine!

Just some info about my hair: I have medium/long length, thick hair. Its naturally wavy and can hold curl well. I usually wash my hair every other day, but sometimes I wash every 2 days.

Products:
(list of where to buy these products at the end of this post)
For shampoo and conditioner I use Jason's brand in "Sea Kelp." I use a deep conditioner, Aussie 3 Minute Miracle, once a week. I also use Jane Carter Solution Revitalizing Leave-in Conditioner and Macadamia oil after I shower when my hair is damp. My favorite hair spray is Got 2 Be Smooth Operator.

Washing:
On days I wash my hair, I usually shampoo my hair twice. Once to get oils, dirt and any product I used (hairspray, gel, etc) out. The second time is a more deep clean and I massage my scalp. When I shampoo I focus on my scalp - its important to not shampoo your ends too much to avoid dryness - and I just run my hands through my ends once with whatever shampoo is left. Here is a video to check out for good hair washing tips. After I shampoo, I use conditioner only on my ends. A tip: grab your hair as if you are making a pony tail and only use conditioner from where your hair is gathered down to the ends. Again, check out this video for more tips and a visual demonstration. I leave the conditioner in my hair for the duration of my shower or to at least until I wash my face (the last step in my shower routine). Once a week I use a deep conditioner (after my regular shampoo and conditioner) and follow the same steps as I do for regular conditioner.

On days I don't wash my hair, I clip my hair up, use a shower cap and shower normally.

Drying:
When I'm done with my shower, I towel dry my hair by patting and squeezing excess water out. I try not to rub too much as it can cause breakage. Then I wrap my hair in my "Turbie Twist" and leave it in for 5-10 mins. After that, I spray my leave-in conditioner in (focusing on my ends) and use a wide tooth comb to comb it in (don't use a brush on wet hair!). I then rub a dime size (or less) of the macadamia oil in my hands and smooth it through my ends (again, same way as I apply conditioner). Then I just part my hair and comb through one more time.

I usually let my hair air dry overnight. Sometimes I put it in a french or dutch braid to dry and wake up with waves or I put it up in a messy bun.

When I blow dry my hair I just use my Tresemme Heat Tamer spray beforehand. I only use my hair dryer until my hair about 80% dry.

Styling:
I usually don't do too much to style my hair since I don't have a lot of time in the morning. I just brush through it and pin my bangs back or put it half up with a cute clip. If I have time, I like to curl it and make soft, bouncy waves (I follow this tutorial).

Spring Cleaning!

Every now and then I get the urge to clean and organize! I have always been a pretty organized person and have always kept my room clean and tidy. About twice a year I go through all my clothing items and figure out what I want to donate or throw away. I also like to go through old knick knacks in my closet or drawers in my room to get rid of some clutter.

Recently, I went through my closet and accessories to get rid of old things (just in time for spring cleaning!). I always make sure to have a pile set aside to donate to Goodwill (anything that is in good condition and appropriate to donate!). Old jewelry pieces I try to sell online on ebay or also donate. It always feels good to get rid of old junk!

Take the time to go through old things in your room. You'll find things you didn't know you still had and may even find some hidden gems! It's nice to keep your room organized because it's easier to maintain (remember to dust & vacuum regularly!) and it also looks fresh and new! :-)

I have always been in love with perfume. Every time I go in a store that sells fragrances, I have to smell pretty much every one. Over the years I've developed a rather large fragrance collection but I do, however, have 5 stand out favorites!

DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom

I am normally not a fan of floral scents and I was apprehensive to try this one at first. The scent of this perfume is described as (via Sephora): DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom is a radiant new fragrance that marries freshness, vibrancy, and femininity. A blend of sparkling grapefruit, cassis, and sunkissed apricot meets a blooming floral heart of sheer muguet and petally rose wrapped in luminous jasmine. A base of juicy apple, mingled with lingering blond woods and smooth skin accord, completes the irresistibly sensual experience of the essence. The notes are Grapefruit, Cassis, Apricot, Muguet, Rose, Jasmine, Apple, Blond Woods, Smooth Skin Accord and the scent style is bright, alluring, & sophisticated.

I bought the rollerball version of this, which was a duo to the DKNY Be Delicious perfume. At first, I only wore the Be Delicious side but decided give the pink side a try. To my surprise, I loved the scent! It is one of those scents that smells better as the day goes on and it is very long wearing. I love the rollerball application because it seems to give the perfect amount. Unfortunately I am almost all out of the rollerball size and duo of the Be Delicious and the Fresh Blossom is no longer sold (DKNY now only sells the Be Delicious and Golden Delicious duo). However, I love this fragrance so much that I went ahead and purchased a whole bottle! I really enjoy the original Be Delicious scent and the new Golden Delicious scent as well.

Philosophy "Falling in Love"

This is my newest scent! I actually just purchased this last week and it is already one of my favorites! This scent is so feminine and sweet and very light and easy to wear. The Philosophy website describes this scent as: a delicious, sparkling berry scent, falling in love spray fragrance is a sensual fragrance created to embrace a woman's romantic side. I don't personally noticed the "berry" scent right away. Initially, this fragrance smells a bit floral and smells better on my skin and the longer I wear it. I don't think this scent is as long wearing as the DKNY one, but it still wears pretty well. This also conveniently comes in a rollerball size as well as a mini spray, which makes it easy to carry in your purse!

Victoria's Secret PINK: Fruity & Bright

This is one of my all time favorite scents! Unfortunately, Victoria's Secret does not carry this specific fragrance anymore but I know it can still be found online on Ebay or Amazon. Since I had a feeling this fragrance would be discontinued, I bought two (2) large bottles online even though I still have a half bottle left! I also purchased a mini version when it was still sold in stores that I always carry in my purse! I use it sparingly because I never want to run out!! This is a body spray so it is very light and does not wear as long as a perfume. Since the website does not have this scent, I do not have the description of this fragrance or the specific notes. The only way to describe this scent is by its moniker: fruity and bright! It resembles the Philosophy scent mentioned before but only when worn on my skin. From the bottles, its not a true match, but when I wear both, the scents are very similar (in my opinion!).

Vera Wang Princess

Scott (my fiance) actually bought me this perfume for Christmas one year. I loved the purple bottle and name right away! ;-) I've heard this scent described as so many things but the Vera Wang Princess website describes it as this: Created for the modern day Princess, this sheer, fruity floral fragrance is definitely born to rule! The scent sparkles with the captivating, sweet, tart aroma of delicate lady apples and the coveted tahitian tiare flower and finishes with a tasty vanilla chiffon - a treat fit for royalty. To me, I mainly smell vanilla and slight berry scents in this perfume. I like to wear this as a date night perfume or for special occasions. In the fall and winter time I do wear this as a day to day perfume, but for spring and summer, I prefer the first 3 I mentioned since they are lighter and more fresh.

Bath & Body Works Berry Vanilla Fragrance Mist

I love this scent for summer! It smells just like the name says, berry vanilla! This mist is light and fresh and is always a go to scent. I also have this scent in a body lotion and body wash!

Those are my top 5 favorite fragrances! They all have similar notes and styles: fresh, fruity, and feminine!

Wedding Planning - June 2012 update

Here is a short wedding update!

Background info:
My fiance and I have been together for almost 5 years! Last year, after 4 years together, we got engaged on our anniversary (July 1) :-) We are in no rush to get married and want to take our time planning our special day!

Planning:
So far we've only discussed basic things like dates, location, etc. I have always wanted an outdoor summer wedding and a tropical honeymoon, which thankfully, Scott does too :-) We would love to get married on July 1 (of some year, 2013 or 2014) since that is our anniversary but we are open to dates as well. As far as location goes, we've discussed a destination wedding and locations like the Broadmoor but haven't made a final decision yet.

Thanks to Pinterest, I have discovered which colors I would like for our wedding. I really like coral, blush, cream and gray as main colors and I think purple and yellow details would mix well with those. I put together a rough idea of colors below from Polyvore.

I've looked at many dresses online (again, thanks to Pinterest!) and know what style, cut and fabrics I like. You can check out my wedding planning board here to see some of the dresses I've pinned.

I will update more on our wedding planning as it comes!

Spring Obsessions!

Obsessions!

Jason Mraz! He is one my favorite singers, though recently I'm obsessed with his song "I Won't Give Up." He is truly an amazing artist and every time I hear his music I fall in love. Listen to his recent performance of his single "I Won't Give Up" on Ellen here! I can't wait until April 17 when his new album is released!
Delta Sigma Pi! I recently went to the Western LEAD conference in San Diego and it really taught me so much about myself as well as ideas on how I can better my chapter. I'm so glad I went and I'm even more excited to attend more events in the near future! I love my brothers and am so glad I made the decision to join such a wonderful organization.
TV! What else is new!? Well in particular, Jane by Design, One Tree Hill, New Girl, and Revenge.

Jane by Design. Surprisingly I love the new ABC Family show Jane by Design! I honestly had little interest when I first saw the promo, but I decided to watch an episode and see what I thought. At first I wasn't that impressed but decided to keep watching. The more I watched, I fell in love! The show became so addicting! Now I'm sad that the spring finale is airing tonight :-(
One Tree Hill. This final season of One Tree Hill has been amazing so far!! Honestly the last few seasons haven't been very good so I was not overly excited for the upcoming season. One Tree Hill is one of my all time favorite shows and I'm sad to see it end. This season has kept my interest, made my laugh, made me think, and has just the right pace for all the story lines. Very impressed so far. Now it will be even harder to accept that the show is ending!
New Girl. The first few episodes of New Girl were good and I enjoyed them but I wasn't too impressed. Two episodes have made me laugh all the way through (Jess and Julia & Injured). Truly amazing writing and a whole lotta humor! Great Show!
Revenge. Wow. If you haven't seen this show, what are you waiting for!??! It's one of the best shows in a while. A great concept (read about it here), great cast, and great story lines. Awesome awesome awesome.

Nail Polish. Well, when isn't this an obsession?? Ha! The new China Glaze Hunger Games collection was just released and I bought a few colors from 8ty8beauty (only $3 per polish!) Not much else to say except, I love nail polish! :-)
Pinterest! This website is so addicting! There are so many awesome ideas to re-pin. I have so many boards and hundreds of pins already. It's a great way to plan a wedding too! I love pinning ideas, colors, styles, etc. I like to remember for later :-)

Dislikes

Rude/mean people. I think this is a given, but it makes me sad to see people be so hateful about things, people, ideas that they aren't even familiar with. Yes, we all judge, but please educate yourself on the things you "hate" before you say mean things. Also, it would be nice if more people were just more respectful in general...
School. Simply, I am just tired of school. I'm over the homework, assignments, team projects, tests, readings, etc. I still have 1 year left of college and it can't go by quick enough... I try not to be a complainer (my philosophy: whiners are wieners! ;-)), but I'm really ready to be done with school forever!

I just want to post this blog about the recent "nude pic" incident with AnnaLynne McCord.

I want to clarify the story. Many news sources are saying AnnaLynne posted a picture to me on twitter that was uncensored. This is not the case. The original uncensored photo was posted by her as a status. I was on twitter at the time and saw the tweet show up on my timeline seconds after she posted it. I immediately @replied her saying "beautiful picture...but are you naked?" (which I then deleted the tweet promptly after she removed the nude photo since I thought no one would notice or know about the incident). She then sent me a private direct message saying "Omg I tried to delete is it still up?" and I was unable to reply since she was not following me (on twitter, to DM, both parties need to follow each other) so I tweeted her instead saying "I can't reply in a message since you don't follow me, but yes its gone!! I wasn't sure if you noticed it when you posted." I got an e-mail notification saying she started following me on twitter (pause for my excitement!) so I was able to send her a direct message back. She then cropped the photo and re-posted it with the caption "This is for you @meganraee You rock! Xxx A." This tweet featured the cropped photo and a message to me as a thank you.

Many news sources are getting this tweet confused. Again, she DID NOT tweet this message to me with the uncensored photo - she posted this, mentioning me, AFTER as a thank you with the cropped photo. I then tweeted "<333 ahh thanks! you are so sweet! and thats definitely a great picture!" for gratitude and compliments. I am a huge fan of hers, especially for her role as Naomi on 90210.

I only wanted to make this blog post to clarify the incident. Some news sources are twisting it to make it seem weird and inappropriate that she sent the nude photo to me. Not the case.

I hope this clears up the misunderstandings. Unfortunately the uncensored photo is out there, but at least AnnaLynne has a sense of humor about it. She is a lovely person and very kind.

Thanksgiving Inspired Nails!

Here is a simple nail look I did to celebrate Thanksgiving! I am not that proficient with drawing designs freehand, such as a turkey or leaves, and didn't have any stencil stickers with those designs either so I just decided to do a unique fall french manicure! I picked a fall mauve/red color for the base, and did a french tip using a taupe color and sparkly gold. Here is a few pictures of my manicure:

Instructions and products used:
1. I filed, buffed, and applied cuticle cream to my nails.
2. I applied Orly Nail Defense as a base coat.
3. I applied a Mauve/Red color - Zoya "Marcella"
4. After that dried, I used Essie "Mochacino" to do a thin french tip.
5. I applied a thin gold line using a Gold Nail Art thin brush.
6. I used Posche top coat (dries in 1-5 mins!)

Done!
