Sometimes, the shower will be very elegant, sometimes more casual, and sometimes, just downright fun. The theme of the shower should be a direct reflection on the expectant parents’ personalities and lifestyle. Therefore, when hosting, it is important that they have input into the final decisions.

Again, you can do anything you like, as long as it coordinates with what the couple wants. If you will be the host, take this opportunity to use your imagination, borrow ideas, and allow the creative juices to flow. You want the baby shower to be enjoyable, full of laughter, and a memorable occasional regardless of the theme. The following are a few popular recommendations:

SUPPERTIME

Typically, a baby shower consists of games, food, and presents. However, why not take the idea one-step further by including frozen dinners, preferably homemade. If the couple has room, have each guest bring something that can be frozen or is already frozen.

Whether the shower is before or after the birth of the baby, this means the couple does not have to spend tired nights trying to cook. Instead, they can simply pull out one of the frozen dinners, pop it in the oven or microwave, and in a short time, have a nutritious homemade meal.

You would be amazed at how much this sentiment is appreciated. Just be sure everyone labels the food with the name, date, and any cooking instructions. Finally, if possible, try to provide some meal ideas for guests so they know what types of food the couple enjoys. By offering a little guidance, this will also help reduce the chance of duplication.

IOU

This theme baby shower is not only fun but also a tremendous help to both the expectant mother and father. With this, every guest would bring a handwritten, signed, and dated IOU that would provide a service after the birth of the baby. Similar to task coupons, the mother can call upon the IOU when needed and the family member of friend complies. Some of the things you would expect to see include:

One home cooked dinner

One night of babysitting

Four hours of house cleaning

One week of laundry

One week of running errands

BEDRIDDEN

Unfortunately, pregnancy is not a breeze for every mother. Some women have complications that can keep her bedridden at home or even at the hospital. For the expectant mother, waiting for the birth of a child from bed is lousy. A baby shower can be customized around her situation to brighten her day, giving her hope while lifting her spirits.

Instead of waiting on the birth of the baby, go ahead and plan the shower with close family members and friends, bringing the shower to her. Remember, after the baby is born, a full-scale shower can always follow. However, for this type of shower, guests should create a miniature gift box or basket. Great ideas of what might be offered include:

Craft projects that can be worked on in bed are good choices. This might include cross-stitch, needlepoint, simple paintings, and even handmade ornaments.

Books are also excellent ideas but it is important to choose books that she likes. Ask her or her family what types of books she enjoys reading.

Puzzles are also a great way for the expectant mother to pass the time. This might include crossword puzzles, other puzzle books, or a flat tray with a small piece puzzle, perhaps of a baby.

Video tapes or DVDs are nice in that she can watch her favorite television shows or movies while still getting the rest needed.

A day spa certificate to include massage, facial, pedicure, and manicure for after her baby is born would provide her with something to look forward to but you might also go in with other people in having a reflexologist or masseuse come to her.

Care package for after the birth, again to help her think about the future. This could include a trip to the beauty parlor, dinner out with her husband or friend, housecleaning service for two to four weeks, three to six-month supply of diapers, and so on.

Body lotion, perfume, balloons, flowers, and other similar things are always nice to help brighten the room and put her in a better mood while waiting for her new bundle of joy to arrive.

8 Simple Tips for Taking Great Baby Photos

Taking pictures of your new baby is a great way to preserve life long memories.
Baby pictures can also make great postcards, keepsakes, or baby shower gifts.
Here are some simple tips to get great baby pictures:
1) Avoid bright light - Babies are especially sensitive to bright light including
harsh sunlight and flash photography. If possible, try to take photos during
the day when flash photography is not necessary. You can also use lamps to create
lighting.
2) Take pictures from different distances - Try to take pictures from different
distances. Most people like to take close-up pictures, but pictures that are
too close can be blurry and out of focus. By taking several pictures from different
distances, you can keep the ones that are the best.
3) Be aware of your baby's mood - Try not to start a photo session when your
baby is cranky or crying. If your baby is in a bad mood, then wait awhile until
he or she is better rested or calmed. You will get better pictures when your
baby is in good spirits.
4) Use a high quality camera and film - This tip may seem simple, but is worth
saying. Using high quality cameras and film can make a big difference in the
quality of the photo, especially if you are creating photo gifts or favors.

5) Get rid of any distractions - Make sure there are not too many distractions
when taking pictures. Anything that moves or makes noise, like the TV, should
be turned off is possible. Having too many people around can also be distracting
for the baby.
6) Take multiple shots - Taking different shots is a good idea for any type
of photography, particularly if you are making photo gifts. Sometimes it is
hard to tell if a shot will turn out good until it is actually produced, so
get those extra shots just in case.
7) Background - Make sure that there is not too much distracting stuff in the
background. The focus should be on the baby, so plain backgrounds usually work
best.
8) Other people - Try taking pictures of the baby with other people as well,
including you. A baby will interact with other people and these interactions
captured on film can make great keepsakes.
About the Author - Criss White is a professional web writer on baby and
new mother topics for baby and pregnancy websites. Sign language is a great way to communicate with pre-verbal babies and toddler. New moms everywhere are grabbing American Sign Language books and absorbing them feverishly. Pregnancy classes are full of moms teaching each other basic sign language and day care centers across the country are training their teachers in sign language.

Why would you do such a thing?

Some of the benefits of signing are:

Less frustration for baby - Imagine how it feels to grunt and point and not be able to ask for what you want. Put yourself in your baby's shoes. You're a baby. You've been playing and squealing and laughing and now your mouth is dry and you're really thirsty for milk. You grunt and point and whine for milk -- and your mother misunderstands and gives you a dry cracker instead, thinking you're hungry for a snack. You feel very frustrated and possibly angry. You might even throw the cracker back at your mother or hit her out of frustration. What if, instead, you could simply sign milk and get milk? Pure bliss!

Bonding with Parents - Babies who sign are able to interact and be acknowledged at a younger age. Picture you and your baby looking at a book about elephants. She can show you that she understands the story by signing "elephant" to you well before she could say the three syllable word "elephant". You know that your baby understands and is benefiting from the story and you can respond "yes, it is a big elephant", thereby rewarding her for her efforts.

Sibling bonding - Older siblings are given the tools to bond with their new brother or sister sooner, because the baby can sign, well before speech is possible. Not only is there a bond, but I've witnessed a sense of camaraderie because the older sibling can act as an interpreter for the baby in situations with non-signing adults.

How to start
You may, at this point, feel overwhelmed. After all, you are learning a second language -- with no one to teach you. Please don't worry. First of all, you only need to learn a few words to being signing with your baby.

Begin with 4-6 words -- choose a few words that are of importance to you (words that will make your life easier, like eat, milk, more, etc.) and also choose some that are of interest to your baby (for instance, airplane, ball, book, dog, cat, baby, etc.). This ensures that both of you are rewarded for your efforts.

Once you choose a few words, you can begin signing whenever you say those words. When your baby cries, you say "Do you want milk?" Then, sign milk at the baby's eye level so she will begin to associate the cause and effect and realize hands MEAN something!

At what age should you start? You can start from birth on. The earlier you start, the more time you, as the parent, will have to get comfortable signing. Babies 6 months and older will begin to watch your hand movements. Babies 8 months old may begin to make very rudimentary attempts to sign back to you. By one year, your baby will likely be signing regularly.

If you have an older baby or toddler who is having frustration issues or is a late talker, begin signing. Start today. Toddlers pick up signing very quickly.

Don't think you have to learn an entire language for this to work. Just learn one sign today and get started. Even though no one would realistically expect a new daddy-to-be to sit around with his closest buddies, opening baby shower gifts and playing party games while oohing and aahing over the imminent birth of his child. That doesn’t mean that Dad can’t have a baby shower-type celebration. Daddy deserves to celebrate the birth of his child, too!

Of course, the term baby shower does invoke visions of baby themed parties. Like the one described above when planning a baby shower. So perhaps “baby shower” is not an appropriate name for this get-together. Why limit yourself with a label, anyway? Call it a “celebrating-Jim’s-impending-fatherhood” party, if you want, instead of baby showers for dad.

Here are a few suggestions to make this type of party one for daddy-to-be to remember:

Play Games:

Well, not baby shower games. But you can play poker, horseshoes or even a game of shirts-n-skins football in the back yard.

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry:

Have tons of fattening and not-good-for-you foods. Make spareribs, cheese steaks, wings, and anything else you can eat with your hands and make a mess with. The wives won’t be there to complain and you can grunt all you want. Have some beers (or soda if you prefer) and barbecue.

Last Night Out:

Take the dad-to-be out for a night on the town to rival his bachelor party. Do some bar hopping, play some pool, shoot some darts, and don’t go home until you are kicked out of at least three places. Keep Dad safe, though, and designate someone to stay sober and make sure everyone gets home in one piece. You might also want to check with mom-to-be to make sure she is okay with this plan. She is, after all, pregnant and might not be all that amenable to the last-night-out-before-fatherhood party.

Gifts for Dad-To-Be:

Let the official baby shower take care of the baby necessities. Give Dad gifts for himself, or gifts that he would have chosen for the baby. Buy him a diaper tool kit, complete with goggles, rubber gloves, tongs, clothespin, and of course, diapering essentials, or a Daddy Gear Diaper Bag.

Gag gifts are fun, too. Or you could buy clothing for the new baby with Dad’s favorite sports team’s logo or matching Dad and Baby t-shirts. Think about necessities like batteries, too. Most likely they won’t be on Mom’s registry, but all parents know that batteries are a hot commodity in any house with children. Be creative.

And don’t forget that Dad might need some reading material to get himself up to date on the latest parenting trends. Consider getting him a book on fatherhood, funny or otherwise, or maybe a magazine subscription for daddy, such as American Baby Magazine.

Ask other new dads to think about what toys or objects were particularly helpful when their little ones were inconsolable, and either buy or recommend them for the times when dad-to-be is home alone with Junior.

Comfort Dad:

New Dads are usually pretty stressed out about what there life is going to be like after the new baby comes. Be prepared to have guests tell funny and helpful stories about their own experiences with becoming a daddy. Make it a point to reassure him that his wife is not really crazy, she is just hormonal and this, too, shall pass.

Remember, daddy baby showers don't have to be like the traditional shower, or even called a shower, but you can have one for dad just the same.

The Baby Stroller- How To Choose

You will need to begin gathering the things your baby will need, now that you got the news that you are expecting a bundle of joy. You may feel overwhelmed if this is your first baby with all the decisions that need to be made.

Deciding on the type of stroller you will use for your baby is one of the biggest decisions you will need to make. You need to determine your budget first before you begin choosing from among the many different types of strollers. The cost of strollers can range from $10 to $400 and higher.

The lower end strollers are generally the lightweight umbrella strollers. Easy folding and storage give these strollers an advantage. High prices for a stroller could indicate greater quality and better features. You should know which of the variety of features that come with strollers is important to you?

Which would you want a convertible travel system or a stroller and a car seat? A travel system has a stay in the car base, a stroller frame to which the infant carrier/ car safety seat is attached. These are wonderful especially for your newborn baby.

A play tray that has places for a bottle or juice cup come with strollers. Many strollers come with canopies that have vinyl windows to let you keep an eye on the baby. Easily applied foot brakes that are attached to both rear wheels and a wrist strap brake that can be used together are included on most strollers.

While you have the strap on it gives you extra safety while you are stopped because the stroller can't roll away. Strollers are now coming with a parent tray that fits over the handle bar as well as a large storage basket that fits under the seat(s). It has a holder for a cup of coffee or a soda, your cell phone, snack, and your keys.

Reversible handlebars that can be moved from front to rear or vice versa and are height adjustable are now on most strollers. The reversible handlebars can help you to see your baby while he rides if necessary and the height adjustable feature is a great back saver.

Next to be considered is the seat. Will the seat recline enough, if it reclines, to allow your newborn to lie almost flat? Will the seat be comfortable for your baby and well padded? Can the seat padding be removed so it can be washed? Blankets that can be attached with snaps to the seat come on most upper end strollers

Your baby's stroller becomes like a bunting on wheels with these blankets. Your baby is protected from wind and harsh sunlight with the use of these detachable rain hoods. Another twist comes with your decision about a baby stroller. You can have for free a stroller that is almost brand new from your friend. She promises to get the stroller ready for you and cleaned.

Is it a safe choice for your baby to have a used stroller? Before you place your baby in it you will need to look over some things and it could be a very good choice for you and your baby. No gaps, dents, or cracks should be found in the frame. Bolts and screws must all be in place.

If it were anything less your baby could be seriously hurt in an accident. Are there any sharp spots on the frame? Can your baby be cut by screws sticking out or are there loose screws? Is the frame and handle bar properly joined?

Do you need to look over the wheels for leaks in air pressure or are they solid?

The wheels; are they worn?

Do the wheels need replacement?

Are the wheels turning appropriately?

Are the axels crooked?

Are the brakes holding when applied and working properly?

No matter if the seat is in straight us position or reclining position, does the seat hold?

Your baby could be seriously hurt if the seat does not hold the position well. Is the seat lining fitting the frame properly and is it clean? Strollers have a variety of options, types, and styles. Multi-seated strollers are available for two children or more.

There is a variety of seating arrangements including tandem and side by seating as well as stadium seating which a variation of tandem seating where the rear seat is higher than the front allowing the second child to see more than just the back of a head.

Jogging strollers have a triangular wheelbase with one large one out in front and two in the rear. Jogging strollers also come with multiple seating. Used or new enjoy your outings with your baby or children.

Baby Strollers Tips and Advice

You have just learned that you are expecting a bundle of joy and now you need to begin getting the things your baby will need. If this is your first baby all the decisions you need to make may seem overwhelming at first.
One of the biggest purchases you will need to make is about the type of stroller you will use for your baby.

There are so many different types of strollers to choose from and one of the first things you need to do is determine your budget. There are strollers that can cost as little as $10.00 or as much as $400 and up. The lower end strollers are generally the very light weight umbrella strollers. The advantage to these strollers is the fold nicely and can store almost anywhere. As the price gets higher the features and quality of the stroller may increase.

Strollers can come with a variety of features. What is important to you? Do you want a convertible travel system or a stroller that is just that and a car seat? There are travel systems that include a stay in the car base, an infant carrier/car safety seat, and a stroller frame for the infant seat which it is attached. These are great especially when your baby is newly born.

Strollers have a play tray that has insets for a bottle or juice cup. Many have canopies with a vinyl window so you can keep an eye on the baby. The brake on most strollers now are attached to both rear wheels and is easily applied with your foot and some also have a wrist strap brake that is used in conjunction with the foot break. It gives extra safety when you are stopped and the stroller won't 'roll away' while you have the strap.

There is usually a large storage basket under the seat(s) of the strollers and many strollers now are coming with a parent tray that is place over the handle bar. It has a spot for a cup of coffee or a soda, a place for your cell phone, your keys and a place to hold a snack.

Handlebars are now height adjustable on most strollers and are reversible moving from either the front to back or vice versa. The height adjustable feature is a great saver on the back the reversible handle can help you see your baby while he rides if necessary.

The seat is the next consideration. Does the seat recline and if so will it recline enough so that your newborn can lie almost flat? Is the seat well padded and will it be comfortable for your baby? Is the seat padding removable for washing?

Most upper end strollers come with blankets that can attach to the seat with snaps. These blankets make your baby's stroller like a bunting on wheels. Rain hoods are also detachable and can be used to protect your baby from harsh sunlight and winds.

Here's another twist your decision about a baby stroller. Your friend has an almost brand new stroller that you can have for free. She agrees to have it cleaned and ready for you. Is a used baby stroller a safe choice for your baby? It can be a very good choice for you and your baby, however there are some things you really need to look over before you place your precious one in it.

The frame - there should be no dents, cracks, or gaps in the frame. All bolts and screws must be in place. Anything less could cause an accident and seriously hurt your baby. Are there sharp spots on the frame? Are there any screws loose or sticking out that could cut your baby? Is the handle bar joined properly to the frame?

The wheels - are they solid or do you need to look for leaks in air pressure in them? Are the wheels worn? Do they need replacing? Do the wheels turn, as they should? Are the axels straight? Does the brake operate properly; that is, do they hold when applied?

The seat - does the seat hold its position whether straight or in the reclining position? A seat that does not hold the position well could seriously injure your baby. Is the lining clean or does it fit the frame properly.

There are all kinds of options styles and types of strollers. There are multiple seat strollers for twins, or more children. There are a variety of seating arrangements side by side seating, tandem seating with one seat behind the other, and stadium seating (tandem seating with rear seat raised above the front) allowing the second child to be able to see more than the back of a head. There are jogging strollers (one wheel out in front and two rear wheels). The jogging strollers also come with multiple seating.

Used or new enjoy your outings with your baby or children.

Baby Shower Party Game Ideas to Keep Your Guests Entertained

Baby shower party game ideas??

This is the question which comes to every baby shower hostess’ mind when she has to plan a baby shower and also brainstorm her mind to come up with an innovative game idea. There is also so much to be done in so little time. You have to organize and prepare invitations, food, drinks, party favors, schedules, and activities. You don’t want your baby shower to be exactly like every other shower your guests have attended.

The challenge is to come up with new baby shower games and ideas that aren’t too complicated. You don’t want to spend half an hour explaining to everyone the rules of a five-minute game. You also want your games to be entertaining for your guests. When the guests start to lose interest, the game is basically over, whether it’s supposed to be or not.

Let the baby games begin!

The best baby shower party game ideas are games that make your guests interact with each other. People who attend baby showers all know the guest of honor, of course, but they don’t all necessarily know each other. There is a bit of awkwardness when the shower first begins. It’s a good idea to come up with baby shower games ideas to break the ice and let the guests get acquainted.

A great baby shower party game to play right off the bat is the Introduction Game. The hostess starts by introducing herself, then giving one descriptive detail about herself. This detail can be anything. It could be her favorite color, dog’s name, her middle name or even the last movie she saw or the book she’d read.

The next person in line has to add their name, a detail and repeat the name of the hostess and her detail. It goes on down the line, with the last person adding their name and detail. Then repeating the names and details of all the other guests. By the time the game is over, everyone will have had a few good laughs. And will have had a chance to talk to each other more.

Don’t discount classic baby shower game ideas for free. The Baby Food Game is always fun for everyone. Simply buy 5 different kinds of baby food. Remove the labels. Mark each one with a number instead (be sure to write down which number is which food). Prepare a paper plate for each baby shower guest. Write the numbers 1-5 on each plate. Have each guest put a little of the baby food from the jar with the corresponding number.

At this point, the tasting begins. Each player writes down their best guess as to what five baby foods they are eating. The player with the most correct guesses wins. Be sure not to buy meat flavors just in case any of your guests are vegetarians.

Baby Shower Invitation Cards

Baby Shower Invitation Cards are a time saver for the hostess. If you're not an art student, or an artist, or a professor of art, there's really only one thing you need to know about Postmodernism. It means that you can do whatever you want. Essentially, it is a melding of things that have come before, a new take on old things. What does this have to do with baby clothes? Anything you want it to.
Perhaps you're a young mother who is sick of the basic options of pink and blue, ruffled or hemmed with ribbon. Perhaps you're on your second or third child and frustrated that the styles for your baby haven't changed at and you're tired of looking at the same thing over and over again. Perhaps you just don't feel like shopping for baby clothes once every two weeks as your infant grows into the next size that they will rapidly outgrow. In any case, there is a solution to your frustration.

There are lots of things that are not baby clothes, but could be. Like what you ask? How about bandanas? That's right, your baby is tiny. If teeny bopper club girls can wear bandanas as shirts, imagine how much baby can fit into one! Bandanas are great for summer time as a shirt or a diaper cover, and that can be accomplished without a bit of sewing! With a little bit of snipping and stitching, there is plenty of material for an infant sized dress or pair of pants.

Baby doll t-shirts that are made for young women are ideal as dresses for older infants or even toddlers. Sure, some of the writing on them may not be so "babyish," but some of the more neutral styles would be much more dressy than you can find for the same price in baby dresses.

Taking your own worn out clothes, or just clothes you're sick of as material to make clothing for your baby is a great way to personalize their style through your once loved clothing. It will save money and give you a little bit more space in your closet. Do you have a t-shirt that you once loved, but that now is stretched in an unflattering manner, or perhaps has wear spots in a specific area? If so, you're not alone! Most of the material from the t-shirt can be salvaged and made into a whole outfit for your baby to play in with a simple pattern that can be purchased for less than two dollars.

There are lots of other household items that can be used to tend to your baby. A normal sized bath towel, for example, can, in a matter of minutes be converted into a robe for your baby to wear at the beach or when just out of the bath. When the baby is an infant, just adding some accents and a hood to the towel will make a cheaper alternative to designer robes, and is a one of a kind statement that you simply can't buy at a department store. Let your creative mind wander before you throw out those never used scraps of material and old clothes. Your wallet and your baby will thank you.

Using Music To Calm Your Baby

Music is a wonderful way for you to calm and soothe your baby, especially during the first year. How many times have your heard parents say that there was nothing that they could do with their crying, fussing baby until they tried music. This is because music does indeed soothe the savage beast, or in this case, the baby.

There are certain distinct sounds that have been proven to calm even fussy babies: the sounds of nature, white noise, and music. Even if your baby isn’t fussing or crying you may want to use music as often as you can to encourage that feeling of calm and peacefulness. All it takes is a few minutes every day and before you know it your baby will be looking forward to hearing that certain song emanating from the CD player.

There is nothing complicated or mysterious about introducing your baby to music from day one. You don’t need to search for the perfect song or a certain type of music. All you have to do is start by having your baby listen to your favorite songs and music. If jazz is on the top of your list, let your baby listen to the sounds of John Coltrane as he sits in his baby seat watching you in the kitchen. It doesn’t matter if you play the schmaltzy songs of the eighties or some wicked African beat, your baby is going to listen and his mood is going to be altered by any musical sound that he hears.

Besides the music that you yourself can introduce your baby to, there are hundreds of CDs on the market today that are filled with baby songs and lullabies. At the end of the day you may want to play a CD of quiet baby songs that have a slower beat. There are so many CDs for you to choose from that you will have a hard time making up your mind. Choose something that interests you. Many baby CDs will have lullabies and faster beat songs on the same CD.

Playing music has other benefits besides soothing your fussy, crying baby. These benefits include:

Babies are introduced to musical sounds.

Music enhances your baby’s behavior and cognitive skills.

Relieves stress for the entire family.

Will stimulate curiosity and an interest in music.

Take time to find a variety of music CDs for your baby to listen to. You’ll soon notice which music your baby is most drawn to and can use that music when he is particularly fussy or is crying.

Baby Clothes You Can Use All Year

Few things seem more important at a baby shower than duckies, monkeys and theme colors. Once you get the baby home though, the most important thing about baby clothes is how well they protect your baby. Depending on the time of year that your baby is born, and the type of climate you live in, there are a variety of concerns to take into consideration for your baby's very sensitive nature.

For summer babies, or babies in warm climates, overheating is not the only concern. A baby's skin is incredibly sensitive to light, especially with the increasingly less protective o-zone layer. Sunscreen is not the only necessity for baby's sensitive skin. Keeping a towel or blanket over the baby's carriage or bassinet during summer play is a great way to keep the sun from harming your baby. Umbrellas and pop up tents are also great for beach days. Make sure there is plenty of ventilation but little to no sun—that way your baby won’t get sunburned or have to squint at the bright sun rays.

For daily summer wear, onesies that are made of a lightweight cotton are a great alternative to pants and shirts. In addition to being comfortable, they will easily fit in a small bag or purse that you can bring along in extra in case of a spill or accident. Another bonus of your baby being born in the summer is that it will keep shoe costs down, since a baby in a stroller in seventy five to eighty degree weather does not really need to wear shoes! Keeping a blanket in the stroller is important, especially if you're in air conditioned buildings a lot, since babies are a lot more sensitive to the change in air temperature.

For winter wear, bundling babies in layers is a good way to combat the difference between heated buildings and the outside. Avoiding long stretches of being outside in colder temperatures is probably a good idea, but for short walks or trips between cars and buildings, warm bundling is vital. If you live in a climate that has a lot of snow, the danger of sun burn is even more prevalent than in the summer, since it attacks from all angles. Warm socks, mittens, and hats will do a good deal to keep most of the baby's body heat in. Buntings that button down the front are a great way to let the baby escape from the heat a little bit when you are inside without too much effort for you or discomfort for the baby.

Layers work in almost every weather. As any New Englander will tell you, the ability to put on a layer or take it off is the key to combating shifting climates. This is particularly important for your baby, who is much more sensitive than you to slight changes in temperature or outside conditions. So keeping an extra sweater around, or putting an onesie underneath warmer clothing is a great way to prepare for anything that Mother Nature has in store. She likes to keep new mothers on their toes!

White Noise for Baby Stops Colic Crying Fast

It’s true. Colic is MUCH harder on the parent than the infant. My daughter survived six months of colic unscathed. My husband and I are a different story. We have deep psychological scars that send us scurrying for the nearest exist every time we hear a baby cry.

As parents, we were newbies. We had never even changed a diaper when we brought our bundle of joy home from the hospital. I had heard a few horror stories about babies with colic, but never thought in a million years I would be the proud owner of a colic baby. So, imagine our horror, when on about our third week of parenting, our daughter started screaming every day around dinnertime. And, I’m talking blood-curdling, “I’m-in-severe-pain” sort of screaming. Screaming that lasted four hours and drove everyone in the household to tears.

We thought for sure something was horribly wrong.

A doctor appointment later, I was assured that my daughter was fine, and she probably just had “a little colic.” Not to worry, that the colic would pass within a “couple of months”.

Yeah, right. Define a “couple of months”.

Those of you who have a baby with “a little colic” know there is no such thing. Experiencing a colic episode is extremely traumatic. You feel helpless, angry and frustrated when everything you try to stop the crying fails miserably. You feel like you’re a bad parent or that your baby hates you. But, don’t despair. Empower yourself! There are tons of strategies, tricks and products out there to help you deal with a colicky baby.

A guaranteed colic-buster we used time and time again was white noise. “What is white noise?” you might ask. Good question. Here goes.

White noise is the full spectrum of sound frequencies a human ear can hear combined together all at once. Huh?

Okay, again in layman’s terms. Have you ever been in a crowd full of people, for example, at a sporting event? Everyone is talking at the same time. You can’t decipher every single conversation, but you do hear the roar of the crowd (it happens to make me sleepy). That is white noise. Oh, yeah, I get it now!

Now, do me a favor. Put your hands over your ears and listen. Do you hear a roaring? What you are hearing is the white noise your own body produces within. The same noise your baby heard for 40 weeks or so while in the womb.

So, for a second, imagine you are a baby in the womb. You’ve spent most of your existence in a place warm and dark, where you were well fed and had no distracting noises, lights or outside stimuli. Then suddenly, you burst on the scene and have a whole big world to absorb. The stimuli eventually stresses you out, and since you can’t communicate very well, the only way you know how to blow off steam is to cry and cry and cry some more. This is the latest scientific explanation of the cause of colic. Your baby is over-stimulated throughout the course of the day. To relieve stress, they cry uncontrollably for several hours. Oh, man.

So what can you do as a parent?

Recreate for your baby the feeling of being in the womb. Lower lights, reduce visual stimuli, swaddle the baby and turn on some white noise. Babies seem to be positively effected by the noise frequency of a hair dryer, clothes dryer and vacuum cleaner.

Unbelievably enough, this works! When I first heard about this theory, I was extremely skeptical. But out of desperation one day, I pulled out the vacuum cleaner and plugged it in. It was like turning off a water faucet. Immediately, our baby quit screaming. If you unplugged the vacuum, she started screaming again. It was weird. But, it worked.

Wait, though! Don’t just plug in your vacuum cleaner and run it for several hours. The noise decibels will damage your baby’s hearing. You need to be able to control the volume of the white noise your baby is hearing.

White noise downloads and white noise CD’s are available for purchase almost everywhere. Just go on Yahoo! or MSN and do a search for “white noise baby”. For just a few dollars, your baby can have the comfort of white noise, and you can have your sanity back.

Baby Shower Checklist for Planning a Baby Shower

A Baby shower checklist is a great way to ensure that you stay on track. Planning a baby shower can be a hard work. With a complete checklist you can organize everything you need to do. Without a checklist of some sort you may forget some important details.

Most shower checklists will suggest you start planning approximately four weeks before the intended shower date. This will give you enough time to do everything you need to without feeling rushed. The most important task is to pick a date! You should confirm this with the new mom and her immediate family as well. You don’t want anyone to feel left out.

The baby shower invitations should be sent out approximately three weeks before the baby shower date. Be sure to include RSVPs or request people to phone you by a certain date. You want to have a final number by the second week.

This is important for ordering food and planning your menu. If you don’t receive all your RSVPs don’t by shy about calling people up and asking if they plan to attend.

If you are planning a large baby shower you should consider asking for help. Ask best friends, sisters, and anyone else you think might enjoy helping out. Be sure to let the new mom know who lent a hand in planning the baby shower. Everyone should feel appreciated.

If you are ordering food. Be sure to check with local catering companies. Best to check about two to three weeks before the baby shower. You don’t want to find that everyone is booked solid. If you are ordering a cake this is best ordered at least two weeks before the baby shower.

Most baby shower checklists will remind you to buy some baby shower decorations. You don’t have to be extravagant if you’re on a budget. You can find some adorable baby shower decorations that will liven up the party space. But really all you need are perhaps some streamers, and a banner.

Planning party games is another important task on your baby shower checklist that must not be forgotten. Be sure to take some time deciding on the games you wish to play. If you think it sounds boring, it probably is. Trust your instinct when looking for fun baby shower games.

With all that’s going on, don’t forget to wrap the gifts! You may also want to wrap gifts such as party favors or prizes for the baby shower guests. If you want to do a good job try and not leave this until the last minute.

The above are just a few of the many things found on a baby shower checklist. Planning a baby shower is a lot of work, a checklist can help to make things that much easier.

Baby Clothes for Your Baby Shower Gift

Baby clothes are one of the most popular types of gifts for new and expectant parents at a baby shower. Shopping for baby apparel and baby stuff is something a lot of people especially new parents enjoy.

Baby boutique clothing is one of the most popular baby shower gifts you can buy. If you live in a larger town or city. There is bound to be many baby boutiques in your area. Baby boutique clothing is an especially nice gift when you purchase a fancy little outfit. The parents might not normally choose to buy this for their baby.

There are many different types of baby clothes that you can buy for a baby shower gift. There are also different shops and boutiques where you can find baby apparel. Try to find something unique as the new parents will probably have more sleepers than they will know what to do with.

Baby boutiques offer designer infant clothing which may seem somewhat extravagant and unnecessary to some. But baby boutique clothing really does make a wonderful baby shower gift. Little dresses for baby girls and overalls for baby boys make especially adorable gifts.

Online infant clothing gives you pretty good deals:
Baby clothing shopping can take you all over your local mall. But some of the best baby clothes can be found online. There are literally hundreds of online baby clothes shops. And you can find some excellent deals.

If you are unable to attend a baby shower that you have been invited to you can always purchase something on the Internet. Then have it sent directly to the new parent’s door. This is especially convenient if you live out of town. Department stores also have great baby clothes sections. They offer a wide variety of styles, sizes, and brand names.

The most popular type of infant clothing to give at a baby shower seems to be sleepers and pajamas. And why not add a tiny little hat to the whole ensemble. Baby clothes are one type of gift that you can pretty much guarantee the parents will get much use out of.

Baby clothes can be fancy and expensive, or simple and frugal. New parents will always appreciate getting gifts for their little one that they can use. Keep in mind what the parents tastes are, because normally they often they dress their baby in a similar fashion.

Budgeting for Baby

If you are expecting an addition to your family, or just planning on having a baby in the future, you need to start thinking about how you are going to budget for your little one.

Many first-time parents are shocked when they realize how much having a baby can cost. And I am not just talking about the doctor bills. It's all the little things, such as diapers, clothes, formula, baby food, and toys, that add up to cost big bucks!

When my wife and I had our first child, we learned a lot about what we really needed and what was a waste of money. So now that we are seasoned veterans and expecting our second baby, we feel confident that we can avoid the same wasteful mistakes we made the first time around.

Here is a list of 6 things that your baby can live without, followed by 4 things that we could not have lived without:

Baby Wipe Warmer - An unnecessary waste. My daughter never fussed when we used baby wipes that were room temperature. Baby wipe warmers are just an attempt to get parents to spend more money on something they really do not need.

Expensive Clothes - You are going to find that your little one will grow out of his or her clothes incredibly fast. It's one thing to spend a little extra for a nice dress or outfit for a holiday or special occasion. But it doesn't make sense to spend a fortune on clothes that will be worn only once or twice. Instead, choose the lower priced items (as long as the quality is satisfactory), especially for little onesies and sleepers.

Another tip: don't remove the tags from baby’s clothes until they are ready to be worn. We have outfits that my daughter grew out of before she even had a chance to wear them. Since we had already removed the tags we were not able to exchange them for a bigger size.

Brand Name Goods - Using generic items instead of brand names can save you hundreds of dollars per month. We used the brand name baby formulas for the first few months and then switched to the generic brand after we realized it cost 60% less. Not only did our little girl not mind the change, she actually seemed to prefer it. The generic brand seemed to give her less gas.

Toddler Foods - When our baby was first learning to eat solid foods, we tried dozens of different flavors of baby food. We thought it was important for her to adjust to the new foods and to try a variety of flavors.

But as soon as she got used to the new texture, we started making our own baby food. Carrots and sweet potatoes worked especially well when mixed in the food processor.

And we never even bothered with the 'toddler foods'. They are an expensive waste. Look on the supermarket shelf and you will see the jars of diced fruits and vegetables 'just for baby'. But you know what? You can cut up a pear or a green bean yourself. It will save you money and you will know that the food is fresh.

Large and Expensive Toys - When my daughter was born we spent several hundred dollars on toys for her to play with, plus we received many more as gifts. We got her all sorts of giant stuffed animals and high tech toys that danced or played music.

Do you know what her favorite toy is? A squeaky bath toy shaped like a crab. It cost $1.49. She regularly pushes aside all of the fantastic toys we bought her for that inexpensive little crab.

Now I'm certainly not telling you not to buy your little one anything expensive or fancy. Just keep in mind that she may just push it out of her way so she can play with the box.

Baby Walkers - You hardly see these in stores anymore, but they can be found. Skip it. They are dangerous. Stick a baby in one of these and they can wheel themselves into trouble before you know it. There have been horrible incidents of children rolling down a flight of stairs or running into a table and knocking something down on top of themselves.

The 4 BEST purchases we made.
An ExerSaucer - An exersaucer looks very similar to a walker with one major difference...it doesn't move. The exersaucer stays firmly planted on the ground and allows the baby to 'stand' and play with all sorts of toys that are attached to it, plus any other toys you give to him.

My daughter absolutely loved being in her exersaucer and it gave us a chance to get something done around the house while she was occupied. We knew she couldn't get into any trouble and we constantly changed the toys so she would not get bored.

But be warned. Once baby becomes mobile he likely won't want to use it anymore. He can have a lot more fun crawling around getting into all sorts of trouble!

The Best Car Seat You Can Afford - Keeping your baby safe is no joke. Having a quality car seat is vital in case you get into an accident. Be sure you read the manual and secure baby tightly each time you take her out.

Also, contact your local police station and ask them if they offer free car seat installations and inspections. Most towns have a few officers who have received special training on installing car seats. If your town doesn't offer this service they can get you in touch with a neighboring town that does. Even the best car seat is useless if it is not installed correctly.

Bundle Me - Unless you live in a climate that is warm all year-round, a Bundle Me is a great timesaver. It is basically a cozy blanket that fits into a car seat or stroller. Rather than bundling baby up in a snowsuit and blankets, just place her in the car seat and zip it up. You'll be surprised how warm she stays.

It is especially handy when you have the type of car seat in which the base stays in the car and the seat pops out so you can carry it around. You can have baby all snuggled up inside rather than struggling to do it in the cold.

Shopping Cart Cover - You've probably seen them in the supermarket. It's just a cloth or vinyl cover that goes over the top section of a shopping cart. The baby sits in it and it prevents her from touching the shopping cart with her hands or mouth.

Many people will argue that this is unnecessary, but I see it as a valuable safety device. Countless numbers of hands have touched those shopping carts and who knows what kinds of germs they left behind. Keeping my little girl healthy is more than worth the $20 expense.

Baby Showers For Adopted Children

ADOPTED CHILDREN

Couples around the world have opened their hearts and homes to children through the adoption process. Just as with a biological baby, parents are just as eager to celebrate the life of their newly adopted baby. In fact, a baby shower for an adopted baby is ideal not only for the parent’s sake but it also begins the process of bonding for the baby.

With this type of baby shower, timing is crucial. If you were the host, you would need to work with the expectant parents to organize the shower around the time the child would be arriving. The parents may choose to wait a month or so after bringing the child home, allowing him or her to become acclimated to this new life. Therefore, always be respectful of the parent’s wish.

Another thing to consider with an adopted baby shower is that because the mother is not or has not been pregnant, the types of games chosen would be very different from those played at traditional baby showers. However, that does not mean you cannot use some of the games used in this guide.

Additionally, the adopted child may be older than a newborn. In this case, you can simply have a shower, still celebrating the child’s life while modifying activities slightly. The key is to work closely with the adoptive parents!

SECOND/THIRD CHILD

Typically, a baby shower is thrown for the first-born but today, we see baby showers for second, third, and even fourth children. In truth, there is no right or wrong, simply what you want to do. After all, the second baby’s life is just as wonderful as the first baby’s life.

While this type of baby shower is not as common, if someone offers to host a shower for you, accept and be gracious. If you have other children, then you know how quickly clothing and toys can wear out. Therefore, if the children are spaced several years apart, chances are new items are needed and would be appreciated.

Another possible scenario is that the couple has a second or third child more than six, seven, or eight years apart. In this case, technology and baby items have changed significantly so for fun and safety purposes, a second or third shower may be needed to replace outdated items.

While there remains, many unanswered questions about the history of baby showers we do know this is a beautiful time of life and celebration. For this reason, it is unlikely that baby showers will ever stop being an important part of our culture.

Baby Shower Decorations

When decoration for a baby shower, there are a few key aspects that should be considered:

1) Will your baby shower adhere to a theme?

Visit our baby shower theme for ideas about selecting a theme. If you are using a theme, then it is good to be consistent. People are most often impressed when decorating follows a selected theme. However, note that it doesn't have to be as specific as just rubber ducks. You can use baby items as a general theme and mix it up if desired.

2) Plates, cups and napkins.

If you are serving food, like most baby showers do, then baby themed tableware is often appropriate. If possible, try to make sure that the plates, cups, and napkins all match. Some places also have baby themed table cloths that are great for showers.

3) Confetti, banners, and streamers

The most common banners and streamers are "It's a Boy or Girl" streamers and can be attached around the walls. These decorations are usually very affordable and an easy way to decorate. Confetti can come in shapes like rocking horses, ducks, or bears. It usually takes more time to clean up confetti, but it may be worth it for some parties.

4) Yard signs

Yard signs, particularly the popular stork yard sign, is a good way to announce a new baby and also let your neighbors know about your baby shower. Another benefit is that guests will be able to easily locate the house that the shower is being held at.

5) Centerpieces and placecard holders

A baby shower cake is the most common centerpiece for a shower. Other ideas include floral arrangements, baskets, and bouquets.

Themed placecard holders are commonly available for purchase online. You can also make your own by purchasing a regular placecard holder and attaching a clip-on stuffed bear for example. Flower shops often carry such items.

Decorating can be a challenging, but fun task and carefully selected decorations can really set the atmosphere for your baby shower party.

Note: If you find this article useful, you may reprint it on your website, e-zine, or in your newsletter as long as the credits and resource box remain in tact and the hyperlinks are active.

Baby Shower Centerpieces That Double as a Gift!

Here you will learn how to make and where to purchase your baby shower centerpieces. As the centerpiece is the focal point of the baby shower, it is very important for you to design or purchase the right one.

You need to place them above eye level at the table to keep from blocking the view of the and the guest of honor from seeing each other at the table. There are many different types of baby shower centerpieces to choose from. One very popular type of centerpiece which doubles as your baby shower gift is a baby diaper cake.

Once you have picked your theme you need to keep it featured around that theme. If making your own baby shower centerpiece, many of the supplies needed will be available locally. However, going online will add to the variety of baby shower centerpieces you have to choose from.

Many baby shower centerpieces will be made with candles surrounding them. Such as floral centerpieces, using fresh or artificial flowers. Fresh flowers will be more economical if you choose flowers that are in season. When choosing artificial flowers, you can go with silk, chocolate flowers such as roses, plastic flowers, or light-up roses.

Use a wicker basket and fill it with baby items. You could put a cloth diaper, diaper pins, baby bottles, bibs, baby socks, pacifiers and other small baby items. Surround the basket with small candles or put a couple of helium balloons tied to the handle.

If using a beach theme, use a beach bucket and place a flower arrangement inside, with candles around the outside. Or put small tools for the beach inside the bucket.

Fill a small goldfish bowl with water and fill it with floating candles and flower buds. Or you might even add a goldfish to the water.

Use votive holders and candles that match your theme. They will provide a soft type of illumination to the event.

Go to a craft section or a craft store and purchase small pink and blue gemstones. You could place these in votive holders, or small glass vases of different sizes. Add shredded tissue to the mix and you will have another lovely baby shower centerpiece.

You could get different glass figurines of a stork, swan, castle, teddy bear, or whatever would fit with the theme. Put them in a box filled with colored shredded paper and put the figurine on top. Any of these would be a great addition to your baby shower.

Hang an umbrella from the ceiling filled with stuffed animals. Or you could put flowers inside and add balloons, dolls and/or ribbons.

Fill a bucket, bowl, or basket with candy, small stuffed animals, or flowers.

If the baby shower is in the fall or winter. Use small pumpkins, headstones, or leaves of different colors. Pumpkins could be made of tissue, or small figures of pumpkins.

Tropical Themes could use many different items to make your baby shower center piece. Pineapples, tiki lights, small palm trees, hula dancer center piece, or a flamingo.

Nautical themes could use small boats, ships, sailboats, anchors, or a treasure chest.

Spring themes could include items such as hearts, leprechauns, or bunnies.

Western themes could use straw, cowboy hats, cowboy boots, western badges and rope.

These are just some ideas to choose from. Think about them, mix and match, or add your own ideas to make baby shower centerpieces that perfectly match your theme. You and your guests and guest of honor will have a fun day. They will be getting away from reality for a short time to rest and enjoy themselves.

Baby is Coming, Are you ready?

Baby is Coming, Are you ready?

It has been a long pregnancy. You are probably tired and feeling worn more often then not. But, are you prepared for baby's arrival? Do you have all the baby clothes, baby furniture and bedding that you need? Perhaps you aren't even sure what you need to have? Not to worry, even if you didn't have a baby shower to help you prepare, you can find all the items you need for baby right under your nose!

One of the biggest worries when a mom to be is preparing for baby is the baby's room. Having the proper baby furniture and bedding is essential. But, what do you need and what isn't necessary? Sure, it's nice to have a whole room designed to a nursery theme with crib, rocker, bassinet, and changing table. But, all of those products aren't necessary and in fact, baby isn't going to care what she gets her diaper changed on. Changing tables are one thing that can be eliminated as well as the bassinet. Cribs and baby bedding are made to support any size baby from a newborn to a toddler. So, while these products are great to have, don't worry if you don't have them.

As for baby clothing, you will want to pamper baby for sure with cute outfits, little booties, and hats. But, the truth of the matter is, during the beginning months of baby's life, he or she won't have too many big outings to go to. In fact, mom and baby will probably spend a lot of their time resting up for the next feeding in the middle of the night. Again, yes it is great to have a dresser full of cuteness, but reality is, a few cute outfits will do just as well. Now, you should not short yourself on onesies and sleepers. Baby will spend most of his or her day in these and will more then likely need a few per day depending on how much baby decides to spit up. Don't forget the diapers! Having several burping clothes and blankets will also help.

Does all this discourage you? Every parent wants to give their child the best every step of the way. But, having the best furniture and clothing isn't going to help baby in any way. If you really want to find some or all of these items but don't have a large budget to work with, you do have other options. The most obvious of these is to ask family and friends for hand me downs. More then likely, they will be happy to lend you the items they no longer need. Or, if someone is asking you what you need, don't be afraid to tell them what you would like to have. Also, search around garage sales and thrift shops. You can clean and repaint just about anything you find. Saving money this way will help with the ever demanding diaper fund you will have to have!

Baby Clothes For All Seasons

Few things seem more important at a baby shower than duckies, monkeys and theme colors. Once you get the baby home though, the most important thing about baby clothes is how well they protect your baby.Depending on the time of year that your baby is born, and the type of climate you live in, there are a variety of concerns to take into consideration for your baby's very sensitive nature.

Make sure there is plenty of ventilation but little to no sun--that way your baby won't get sunburned or have to squint at the bright sun rays.

Buying Gently Used Baby Clothing

Remember that adorable outfit you bought for your newborn - the one that cost you nearly $40, and got worn three times before it no longer fit? For such tiny things, baby clothing is expensive - and as fast as babies grow, they seldom see much wear. For parents on a budget, those are potent arguments for cutting costs where you can when dressing baby.

Designer duds for baby DO make sense though - and by designer, I mean the elite in the baby design field: OshKosh and Baby B'Gosh, Carters, Sweat Pea and other top-of-the-line baby clothing manufacturers. They concentrate on the little details that cheap clothing manufacturers skimp on - little details that make a major difference in fit, appearance and comfort. You want to take advantage of nice, flat seams that don't irritate, and nylon snaps that don't scratch or pull through fabric. But you don't want to pay $30 for a sleeper!

The answer is shopping around for gently worn using baby clothes and checking with friends and relatives for outgrown hand-me-downs. Yard sales are a great source in the spring and summer months. You'll often find great clothes that are barely worn in sizes for the next couple of years. Check the newspaper for upcoming yard sales - baby clothes are often one of the advertised items.

Another great place to buy designer baby clothes at rock-bottom prices is a good consignment shop. Strike up a relationship with the owner, and she may even put aside items that she knows you'll love and give you a call to let you know what she's got. In addition, you can often sell the same baby clothes BACK, or trade them in on the next size up when baby outgrows them.

How about a place to get gently used baby clothing for the cost of the gas to go pick them up? Freecycle.org is a national movement of community bulletin boards who are committed to the concept of 'one man's junk'. Check http://www.freecycle.org to see if there's a chapter near you, and join up. Seldom a day goes by that someone doesn't offer a few bags of baby and children's clothing in various sizes. The quality varies, but the younger the baby, the more likely that the clothing is still in excellent shape.

Don't overlook church and community thrift shops as sources of good, well-cared for baby clothing. If there's a Junior League thrift shop in your city, you'll find beautiful clothing for baby at bargain basement prices.

When you do pick up used clothing for baby, launder it as soon as you get it home. Pretreat stains if there are any, and wash with a gentle laundry soap meant for baby. Add borax to the water for extra whitening power, and be sure to rinse at least twice if you use bleach. By the time you're done, you'll have one of the best-dressed babies in town - without breaking your piggy bank.

Baby Shower Favors to Spice up Your Baby Shower

Baby Shower Favors should be at every baby shower for its guests. It will be good to be prepared with extra party favors, just in case.

You can give out the party favors as the guests arrive. This is the time to thank each guest for coming to the baby shower. And to thank them for giving the baby shower guest of honor a gift.

You could also choose to have baby shower favors you can make yourself. One suggestion would be to personalize your favors. Check out baby shower favors crafts at any crafts store and let your imagination run wild. Your baby shower guests will love the idea of having baby shower favors homemade by the hostess. Talk about being unique!

Many different kinds of local stores carry items you can use to make party favors. Making for a very enjoyable experience for yourself, your baby shower guests, and your guest of honor.

How to deal with a baby that has colic

Colic is still a mystery to Doctors. They still do not know what cause colic in babies. They will tell you that
there is no known cure for colic. I have always heard of colic, and heard from mothers that have dealt with this problem. I have never had to deal with a colicky baby, until my fourth child Nicholas was born. Colic is hard not just for the mother, it is hard on the whole family.

There is no tried and true method to dealing with a baby who has colic. A crying baby is the hardest thing a parent has to deal with. The crying will stop eventually. There are some things that you can do to help with these crying spells your baby is going through. Here are some things you can try that I have found that works with my son Nicholas.

1) Try walking with your baby. This can be tiresome ,but it may be the only thing that works for your baby. Hold your baby with his/her tummy against your tummy. My son tends to have gas while he is screaming, and I have found that this helps with his gas, as well as his crying. Sometimes he even stops crying for a little while.

2) Push your baby in a stroller. Sometimes this helps with my son. Take a short walk and see if it helps your baby to stop crying. It may not work, but it's worth a try anyway.

3) Rock your baby. I have a rocking chair my baby's bedroom, and when I rock him he stops crying and most of the time falls asleep. I think it is the closeness he feels when I rock him.

4) Put your baby in his/her car seat and take a drive somewhere. I have done this many times. This option may not be an option if you do not have a car, or it could become a habit. Look at it this way; which would you rather do; hear a screaming baby, or drive for awhile?

5)I have not tried this and do not recommend this unless the baby is supervised by an adult. Many mothers I have talked to say this worked for them. Place your child in his/her car seat on top of the dishwasher or washing machine and turn it on for a cycle or two.

6) Try singing to your child, or turning a radio or a tv on to music. It may or may not stop your baby from crying, but it could calm him/her down a little bit. My son calms down when I put country music on.

7) Have your spouse take the baby for awhile. If you are the only person your baby will let hold him/her, try to away for a little while. Have a friend or relative help by watching your child for you.

Make sure you get some sleep whenever possible. I often have my sister come to my house and watch my kids while I take a nap. This way you won't be so tired when dealing with a screaming baby all night. My husband also takes the baby when he does not have to go to work. It helps when you are not so tired.

Remember the crying will not last forever. Even if nothing works for you, there is an end insight . Before you know it all the crying that your baby has done will be replaced with smiling, gurgling, and he/she will be a happy baby. My son is now 3 months old and he is not crying as much as he did two weeks ago.

If you feel you could use some support in dealing with your colicky baby. here is an online support group for parents, family & friends of colicky babies.

Baby Shower for Twins (Or More) Peas in a Pod

Baby shower for twins or multiples can be given when the mother-to-be is expecting twins or more. Having twins is twice as nice. But it’s also twice as much work and twice as expensive. Fortunately for Moms expecting twins or multiples, there is usually someone willing to throw a baby shower to help ease the strain on the wallet.

Two of the most popular themes for a baby shower for twins or more are “Noah’s Ark” (two by two), or Peas in a Pod, which can be for any amount of children. For your twins baby shower, Amazon.com has a book on themed baby showers which will give you many ideas on different themes for your baby shower for twins.

Noah’s Ark baby shower party supplies and gifts are easy to find. Not only is this a popular theme for a baby shower for twins, but it is a popular theme for single births as well. Search for ‘Noah’s Ark nursery’ on your favorite search engine. You will find an overwhelming number of choices. Decorations for Noah’s ark themed baby showers are in abundance. You shouldn’t have any trouble decorations for the twins baby shower.

Many families choose to decorate the nursery with tons of colorful animals. If you know that the nursery theme is going to be Noah’s Ark, then you can use some of the themed gifts as decorations. Most toy makers sell a Noah’s ark toy or two. These will make lovely decorations as well as gifts for the baby shower for twins.

Most baby retailers carry lines of bed linens in this style, as well. Check with the mom-to-be, though, to see which design she is going with. Because it is a popular theme, there are many different Noah’s Ark designs out there that don’t coordinate with one another. Guests who want to buy Noah’s Ark gifts should check with Mom’s registry, if she has one, to compare the styles.

Many upscale giftware retailers, like Lenox and Swarovski, make Noah’s Ark frames, banks, clocks, hardware, and trinkets of all shapes and sizes. Stationery stores carry Noah’s Ark invitations and thank you cards. If you are purchasing Noah's Ark invitations, you might want to purchase the coordinating thank you cards to put in the wishing well.

You can have all of your guests fill out the envelopes with their addresses so Mom has less work to do when she is sending thank you notes. You can also use these pre-filled envelopes to draw for a door prize.

“Peas in a Pod” is another popular theme. This is one that goes with twins, triplets, or even more. Just change the number: two peas in a pod, three peas in a pod, and so on. And this is another theme that has a lot of coordinating party supplies.

You can use twin baby shower invitations from a printer, or as an alternative, you can hand print invitations and attach them to packets of pea seeds. You could also use pea seeds as party favors.

Remember the game “guess how many jelly beans”? You can do a variation on this with “guess how many peas”. Prizes can be frozen or canned peas. Sounds silly, but everyone can use some extra veggies!

Decorations in green can include green balloons tied in bundles according to the number of babies. Many online retailers sell “peas in a pod” apparel. That can be personalized with the babies’ names for baby showers for twins.

So what are some appropriate gifts for a baby shower for twins or multiples? Diapers. Need we say more? Twins can go through almost 20 diapers a day! Buy the smallest size available, usually newborn, as they are likely to fit into them for a while. Another possibility would be giving a supply of baby cloth diapers and plastic pants.

Moms of multiples can always use an extra hand. You can either give her one of yours by offering to baby-sit or help out around the house, or you can buy her a bouncy seat to keep one of the little ones occupied while she tends to the other. If you offer your services to Mom, make sure that you follow up on that offer. Don’t make her ask for help because she may not feel comfortable doing so.

Purchasing more expensive items for the baby shower for twins will help parents a great deal, since they will need two or more of everything. Several people could get together and make one larger purchase, like a double stroller.
