Katrina Kaif in Mehrunissa?

Earlier UTV Motion Pictures was to produce the magnum opus of Sudhir Mishra hence it wanted to cast A-list actress for the same. But now when UTV is not producing the film, DAR Motion Pictures is producing it. Nikhil Advani, the producer of Mehrunissa has joined hands with DAR Pictures and the film will feature Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor in male leads.

However, the film has not got the female protagonist and the hunt is still on. There had been fallout between Nikhil Advani and UTV Pictures. A source however claims, “Though we don’t know the real reason but there is definitely no fallout. Nikhil is producing another film with them.”

Adding further he says, “There was a divided opinion on who to cast as Mehrunisa. UTV was insisting to cast Katrina Kaif but Nikhil and Sudhir were not convinced. We wonder if that is the reason for Nikhil opting out and collaborating with other producer because he wanted more creative freedom.”

It is also revealed that the rumors that Sudhir Mishra’s favorite Chitrangada Singh is playing the main lead is also untrue.
Mehrunissa marks a legendary comeback of two ace actors, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor, together on screen after 28 years.

The same source informs, “‘Mehrunissa’ is a much classier version of ‘Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan’ with the same humor but a lot of nawabi romance thrown into it.”

Nikhil Advani also reveal, “Mehrunissa is very close to our hearts. Being one of the most interesting and challenging films coming out of our banner this year meant that it was essential that our partner’s sensibilities, vision, values, etc. were completely in sync with Sudhir and us. Our decision to partner with DAR was in this very spirit.”

However Nikhil kept mum when asked about not to work with UTV.

Amitabh Bachchan finally agreed to act in Sudhir Mishra's Mehrunissa

Yes guys, the seasoned actor of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan has agreed to do Sudhir Mishra’s dream project ‘Mehrunissa’. He would be reportedly featuring in Nikhil Advani’s produced and Sudhir Mishra’s directorial venture ‘Mehrunissa’.

Everything else was almost finalized for the movie except the approval of Big B for the role. But now, when finally when the megastar of the millennium, has nodded in yes hopefully everything else will fall in place eventually.

The reports further suggest that to find an approval of Amitabh Bachchan was not a cake’s walk. It turned to be a herculean task because it implied to give up collaboration with UTV Pictures. Why? Remember the ‘Heroine’ incident where Aishwarya had to return the signing amount to the production house for hiding her pregnancy. Post this incident Bachchans have decided to stay from the production house.

Well, now when DAR Pictures is making the film there is no question of any controversy or hard feelings.
Besides Amitabh Bachchan, another great superstar of the industry will be seen in Sudhir Mishra’s next, he is none other than Rishi Kapoor.

While the male leads are now confirmed the speculations are on for the female lead. The buzz is that Vidya Balan, Katrina Kaif and Chitrangada Singh are being considered for the lead role.

Chitrangada Singh in lead role for Mehrunissa

If rumors are to believe, UTV Motion Pictures is desirous to have Chitrangada Singh in the lead role of Mehrunissa, the dream project of Sudhir Mishra.

The reports even suggest that Katrina Kaif was the choice of the production house. But this did not go well with Sudhir. He wanted his favorite Chitrangda to play Mehrunnisa, the story of a girl who drives a wedge in the 50-year old friendship between two friends essayed by Amitabh Bahchcan and Rishi Kapoor.

Is this all true and Sudhir rubbishes off the rumors, “It’s all false news. It’s just people’s over active fertile imagination at work. There is no talk of Mehrunnisa just now. Even the script is not completely ready so how can I or UTV be considering the cast? Atleast I don’t like to function in such a haphazard way. I first get my script straight and only then approach people for the role. Till now we haven’t even asked people if they would be interested in acting in the film, leave alone casting them in the role. So how can I be upset about Chitrangada Singh being there or not in the film? It’s all rubbish,” he urges.

These days Sudhir is occupied with shooting another film with Chitrangada Singh and Arjun Rampal along with Lucknow boy Asheesh Kapur.

Deepika Padukone to play Mehrunissa

Sudhir Mishra’s Mehrunissa is without an actress for last 15 years. But it seems now the actress is finalized.

While Sudhir has not disclosed the actress’ name, the sources however inform that Deepika Padukone may be the leading lady in the movie. In terms of budget, the film which spans 45 years from Partition to contemporary times, it can be estimated to go up to Rs 100 crore.

Katrina Kaif to star in Mehrunissa

No, finally it is not Chitrangada Singh for Sudhir Mishra’s upcoming film Mehrunissa. She is not the muse this time. The makers of the film UTV Pictures are not keen as sudhir was to cast Ms. Singh in the lead role. They are planning an A-list actress instead. It was earlier Vidya Balan and now Katrina Kaif for the lead role.

If reports are to believe, the production house plans on approaching Katrina Kaif for a detailed narration of the script. The source explained, “UTV and Nikhil Advani are co-producing Mehrunissa. While Nikhil has maintained a non-committal stance as far as casting goes, UTV are keen on getting Katrina to essay the lead role. Considering that the film is about a girl who drives a wedge in the 50-year old friendship between two friends essayed by Big B and Rishi Kapoor, the production house feels that the youth market can only be won over by an actress like Katrina.”

But interestingly enough, neither Big B nor rishi Kapoor will actually be sharing screen space with the actress. It is so because the story of the film would be told in flashbacks when the characters were young. These characters would be played by newcomers where they would be courting the girl.

Previously, it was Vidya, who was offered the role of this unattainable girl. “Vidya was considered due to her connection with the film’s producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, but she was not so excited about the script,” added our source.

When inquired, Advani was uninformed about the decision to cast Katrina, UTV chose not to retort. As for Sudhir Mishra, he maintained that he has never met the actress. Katrina remained unavailable for comment.

Amitabh Bachchan's nod awaits Mehrunissa

Everything else except Big B’s approval is in place for Sudhir Mishra’s dream project Mehrunissa. If reports are to believe, UTV Pictures is producing the film and the shooting of the movie will begin in March at Lucknow.

Mehrunissa is an epic story which happens to be a Hindu-Muslim love story. Rishi Kapoor plays a Hindu lawyer and Amitabh Bachchan will play a Muslim police commissioner. If it is true, Rishi and Amitabh would be coming together after a gap of 28 years.

They last worked together in Coolie (1983). “I want to work with Amitji. Now it all depends on him,” says Kapoor.
