When we got word that Bossip and 24wired.tv were interested in interviewing Mekka Don, we were a little weary at first, despite the obvious potential visibility it provided. Knowing the reputation the site had for tabloid journalism, we were wondering if they were just looking to make fun of Mekka's story of going from corporate law to becoming a rapper. However, as we got more information about the interview, the people to be conducting the interview, and the platform it would provide the weariness quickly turned to enthusiasm. Woke up this morning to find out that we were chosen for their "Fresh Fridays" segment and that the interview had created a nice buzz on twitter, facebook, and on their sites. Of course the internet gangsters came out to a degree to hate, but we also gained a lot of new supporters. Shout out to both 24wired.tv and Bossip.com for the opportunity,and a thank you for the exposure it's created. I had such a blast in Nigeria with my family this past year. I had my first major performance in Nigeria, shopped and negotiated at the markets, went to parties, relaxed and ate well! NFL Draft Weekend

NFL Draft week was a whirlwind with a number of exclusive NFL Draft Events. I was fortunate enough to attend events for Esquire Magazine, ESPN, Beyond the Burroughs/Hope Africa Foundations, as well as a finale post-draft event at 40/40. I met so many new people including Justin Blackmon (#5 overall pick), Michael Smith of ESPN, Ray Rice of the Ravens, and even Wale. I also was able to catch up with some old faces including legend Eddie George, Will Allen of the Steelers, James Ihedigbo of the Patriots, Darrelle Revis of the Jets, and many others. 2012 has been great so far!

What a great weekend at Ohio State. So many events and meetings helped renew my pride in the University at its great prospects! From meeting with President Gee to speaking with Archie Griffin and Diana Sabau to having a field pass at Urban Meyer's debut spring game, we definitely stayed busy! Also, my sister Dr. Nwando Olayiwola was named one of the "Top 100 Buckeyes to Know" - a major accomplishment! Big things in the works with Mekka Don and OSU collaborations!

MEKKA DON WINS MTVU FRESHMAN/WEEK IN LANDSLIDE

Mekka Don won this week's MTVu Freshman of the week competition,in true David vs. Goliath fashion. Mekka Don proved that nothing beats a strong grassroots campaign of loyal fans, as he beat out several artists signed to major labels, with major features, in a landslide, taking 88% of the total vote. The MTVu competition pitted artists MTV selected to be on the lookout for against each other in a one week voting contest. The winner receved a spot on MTVu's video rotation permanently. Following the competition MTV published an article stating "Mekka Don ruled this Freshman Godfather Style, " and that he went all "Don Corleone on the competition." In response Mekka Don said "I'm glad those weren't my words, I might have had issues with La Cosa Nostra ha. On a serious note, I'm extremely humbled by my fans support and the response the video received. As an artist there's no greater reward than people embracing and liking your music whole heartedly. I couldn't have done this without my fans and I'm extremely thankful to MTVu for giving us the opportunity. "

It's been a long time coming. This week, Mekka Don (@MekkaDonMusic on twitter) has been named an "MTVu FRESHMAN" as a result of his new smash single and video "Dirty", which is currently available on iTunes. Mekka Don has been pitted against four other major artists in a competition for additional airplay. Voting begins Monday (3/5) at 11 am and ends Friday (3/9) at 2 pm.

Wow. Last night's show at the Candy Lounge in Houston took a major turn when J. Prince of Rap-A-Lot Records - a legend in Hip-Hop - showed up specifically to see Mekka Don perform! After the show he told Mekka Don that he thought the music was hot, and he and his crew (of 8000! lol) left as soon as Mekka Don left the stage. Also major shout out to Derrick Ward of the Houston Texans in the building! Major shout outs to V, Chris, and Nelly Fab for holding me down too.
