What is melanoma? Melanoma is the skin cancer. There are two types of melanoma- non-melanoma and malignant melanoma. The non-melanoma though is highly found problem in most of the individuals will rarely lead to the issues of lethal outcome. In other words to tell this type of skin cancer will rarely metastasizes. The second which is the malignant melanoma is very rare but is the most dangerous problem. So understand the damage that is caused with melanoma and diet that can substitute the damage should be well understood so that the individuals are not depressed about their problem.

The main cause for most of the skin problems is the exposure of the skin to the most powerful ultraviolet rays that are emitted from the sunlight. The study on melanoma and diet program will clearly let us know that the DNA of the cells present in the skin is damaged due to the exposure to these powerful UV rays. When the damage that is caused with the rays is not recovered properly it will result in melanoma and diet program that is most effective will not show the desired results once after the damage has completely penetrated deep into your skin.

Without necessary skin protection it is advisable that people should not move around, that too in cities where the layers of the atmosphere are damaged with heavy constructions. The melanoma and diet programs that are offered by several health agencies also explain the same that protection is better than prevention. Hence to recover from the damage it is mandatory that you understand the root cause for melanoma and diet composition that can prevent the heavy damage that is caused from the so mentioned root causes.

In reality though many of us assume that the diet habits will not affect the skin it is the caffeine content that will show a major impact on the skin. So changing eating habits will definitely help the individual to keep them away from melanoma and diet on their food intake so that they are not the victim of any type of skin diseases. While the external habits like applying sunscreen would definitely help you in providing the rich antioxidant to the skin the melanoma and diet theory should be definitely studies and understood by the individual. The reason is that the healthy fats and the plenty of sleep will definitely give major results on the skin glow that can be maintained by you.

People definitely show laziness in following the melanoma and diet program that is given on the internet sites they definitely will give best results that are never expected by you. With respect to the melanoma and diet program, the dieticians consider taking the beta-carotene that is available in vegetables along with the vitamin E, zinc as well antioxidants available material to be included in your regular diet. This will reduce the damage caused to the skin as they develop health protection layer against the UV rays and other pollutants in the air.

While everything that is said on the internet has very low acceptance from the viewers, seeing the melanoma survivor story about results by the potential customers who have already followed some of the tips and techniques will definitely alarm the people suffering with the similar problems. There would be two types of views that are expressed by the individuals through the survivor story. The first would be taking into consideration the time that is taken by the method they have followed to solve the melanoma problem. The second is with respect to the pain that they have suffered during the treatment period.

While both these are the dimensions of the problem that the individual has been facing with, the expressions through the melanoma survivor story will definitely have a major impact on the rest of the people who have been suffering with the minor and major problems that are created with the melanoma. It is the toughest times that an individual would like to be with the family members or friends. But when you have skin problems even the family members would treat you indifferent from the rest of the family members. This pain will clearly be expressed by the sufferers when giving their survivor stories.

Though the intention is not hurt you but to protect the rest of the family members it would one or the other way definitely affect your inner feelings. So when you are reading through the melanoma survivor story that you have come across it would be better to check if your circumstances are leading to the suspicion of the melanoma presence then it is better that you follow the same treatment that is mentioned by the customer. In case if you are not so particular about the details of the treatment and where to get you will get lot of information on internet. It is not that the survivor story is just a fairy tale.

Some of the customers would definitely provide their phone number while most of the customers would definitely provide their mail IDs so that you can contact them on the queries you have in your mind. The queries could be related to the severity of the problem they have faced before turning into a successful melanoma survivor story. The main source of information, the source of treatment, the treatment time, cost of the treatment etc would all be the most crucial information for all those who have been suffering with the problems caused by melanoma.

Among all the customers who have printed their survivor stories of melanoma would definitely talk about three main solutions for this problem as that of radiation therapy, chemotherapy and the Mohs surgery. Based on the doctor whom you are approaching for the treatment as well based on the proximity of the medical services available one can decide on the price of the treatment very easily. Based on the available information from the melanoma survivor story and the other information available on internet we can still rely on the techniques that are available for treating the melanoma skin cancers.

If itchiness becomes too difficult to handle, chances are it’s a melanoma symptoms of itching which should be treated immediately for it not to spread to your other body parts.

Hidden melanoma is types of melanoma that does not occur in exposed areas of the skin. Typically these types develop in concealed area of the body like the eyes, the scalp, the genitals, the anus, the urinary tract, and the esophagus. Never disregard melanoma symptom itchiness because it may soon be too late for you to have it treated.

Hidden Melanoma of the Eye

Yes, melanoma may indeed develop in your eyes, particularly in your eyelid or the choroids of your eyeball. The main sign of these is melanoma symptoms itchiness under the eyelid or dark spot on your eyeballs.

Typically, this condition is diagnosed after an eye examination. Unfortunately very few of us undergo regular eye examination, and in most case we only undergo one the moment we reach adulthood or when we feel the need to wear eyeglasses for clearer vision. Unfortunately, early detection hidden melanoma in the eye is absolutely necessary since it can easily spread to other parts of the body. If you suspect any ocular melanoma then you should consult your ophthalmologist about it.

Hidden Melanoma of the Female Genitals

Your genitals is one of the most sensitive part of your body and even if only a very small percentage of the population may experience melanoma of the female genitals, it is still best for you to know the symptoms of these condition. Itchiness in the external portion of the female genitals signals irritation but if it the itchiness stays for a long period of time, then it may not be a simple itch but melanoma symptoms itchiness. It is best that you consult your gynecologist about this so he or she can do a thorough check-up of your genitals.

Seldom is pain experienced by melanoma patients but if in case you do feel melanoma symptoms pain on your skin, chances are you have what they call as hidden melanoma.

Typically, melanoma develops on the skin but in some instances it may occur on other body parts like the eye, inside of the nose or the mouth. These are what we call as hidden melanomas.

Kinds of Melanoma with Melanoma Symptoms Pain

If you experience pain or inflammation in any of your body parts coupled with slight changes in the skin color of the infected part, chances are you do have hidden melanoma. Here are a few of the types of hidden melanoma with symptoms of pain.

Female Genitals

Women who suffer from melanoma in their female genitals experience melanoma symptoms pain especially in the labia minora or labia majora. Typical signs which go hand in hand with the pain are vaginal discharge, bleeding and itching. During the advanced stages of the melanoma, you may eventually experience foul odor, vaginal pain, more vaginal discharge and vaginal bleeding. So it is always best to consult your gynecologist the moment you notice any abnormalities in the functioning or appearance of your genitals.

Anus

This type will definitely experience melanoma symptoms pain which is often mistaken to be hemorrhoid because of the similarity of the pain experienced by the patient. Nevertheless, whether or not it is a case of hemorrhoid pain you should still consult a specialist if you feel any abnormalities in one of your body parts.

Urinary Tract

You may also experience melanoma symptoms pain when urinating if your melanoma suddenly developed in your urinary tract. It is couple with frequent urination and blood in the urine. Again, others may thinks of this as signs of urinary tract infection so it is best to have a specialist diagnose your case before you start doing self medication.

There are several clinics which offer melanoma treatment options to thousands of patients. Some of the typical options which they provide include the following:

Mohs Surgery

This type of melanoma treatment option is used to help cure lentigo maligna that are found in the patients neck and head as long as it has not yet spread to other areas of the body. The surgical process involves removing the cancer tissue layer by layer while minimizing the removal of other healthy tissues of the skin before finally removing the entire tumor. Every layer of skin that is removed is stained with immunohistochemical staining which helps the surgeon visualize the cancer cells. Most of the time, the removed tissue is examined under a microscope by a Mohs surgeon for confirmation that the entire cancer tissue has indeed been removed.

Radiation Therapy

This is another popular melanoma treatment option which is used to help fight aggressive melanoma tumors. This is initially treated with surgery that is soon followed by radiation treatments wherein high dosages of targeted radiation are delivered directly to the tumor cells. Those who administer this treatment give their best not to expose surrounding healthy skin tissues to radiation because it may lead to non-melanoma skin cancers.

Chemotherapy

There are different types of chemotherapy melanoma treatment options but one which is highly recommended by doctors is the hyperthermic isolated limb perfusion or HILP. In this process, the affected leg or arm is connected to a lung-heart bypass machine and chemotherapy is directly administered through the machine towards the infected leg or arm. This preferred by physicians because it guaranteed high doses of chemotherapy only to the targeted region without affecting the healthy tissues of the body.

There are other experimental melanoma treatment options that are being tried and tested by different clinics and pharmaceutical companies. But for the meantime, it is best that you stick to these safe and effective melanoma treatment options.

Some melanoma treatment breakthrough was revealed to the public last year. Two of the most popular melanoma treatment breakthroughs were that which involves the drug called as PLX4032 and Ipilimumab.

Ipilimumab

Ipilimumab is a type of human monoclonal antibody which targets CTLA-4, a key negative regulator of the immune response system of the body against the spread of tumor cells. By increasing the amount of ipilimumab in the body through immunotherapy, more antibodies can combat the spread of these tumor cells in the body. Thus, it may not only result to treatment for melanoma but also to other variety of advanced cancers.

Ipilimumab is a very promising melanoma treatment breakthrough of Bristol-Myers Squibb and was formally presented to the public during the 2010 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology held in Chicago. The results of these melanoma treatment breakthrough was published on the 5th of June in the New England Journal of Medicine wherein it showed improved health conditions of patients with late stage melanoma.

PLX4032

This drug is another melanoma treatment breakthrough which was co-developed by Roche Pharmaceuticals and Plexxicon. The result of this experimental drug was also published in New England Journal of Medicine in its August 26, 2010 edition through the initiative of its lead author Dr. Keith Flaherty of Massachussets General Hospital in Boston.

This melanoma treatment breakthrough extends aid to survival patients of patients who are dying of advance melanoma. In their study, 81% of melanoma patients that has BRAF-gene have positively responded to the PLX4032. This positive response lasted for two to eighteen months but is yet to be improved for it becomes a cure against advanced stages of melanoma.

There may be other alternative melanoma treatment breakthrough that have are yet to be tested by different pharmaceutical companies. The public still awaits its formal revelation but patients of advance melanoma are always hopeful that the wonder drug which will help them cure this disease will soon be discovered.

Melanoma is a malignant tumor predominantly found in the skin but can be found elsewhere, especially the eye. The vast majority of melanomas originate in the skin. Melanomas are the most lethal form of skin cancer. As with most forms of cancer, earlier detection gives patients a better chance of survival.

Epidemiologic studies from Australia suggest that exposure to ultraviolet radiation is one of the major contributors to the development of melanoma. Occasional extreme sun exposure resulting in a sunburn is causally related to melanoma. Those with more chronic long term exposure (outdoor workers) may develop protective mechanisms. Melanoma is most common on the back in men and on legs in women (areas of intermittent sun exposure) and is more common in indoor workers than outdoor workers (in a British study). Other factors are mutations in or total loss of tumor suppressor genes. Use of sunbeds with deeply penetrating UVA rays has been linked to the development of skin cancers, including melanoma.

Possible significant elements in determining risk include the intensity and duration of sun exposure, the age at which sun exposure occurs, and the degree of skin pigmentation. Exposure during childhood is a more important risk factor than exposure in adulthood. This is seen in migration studies in Australia where people tend to retain the risk profile of their country of birth if they migrate to Australia as an adult. Individuals with blistering or peeling sunburns especially in the first twenty years of life have a significantly greater risk for melanoma.

Fair and red-headed people are at greater risk for developing melanoma. A person with multiple atypical nevi or dysplastic nevi are at a significant risk. Persons born with giant congenital naevi are at increased risk.

A family history of melanoma greatly increases a person’s risk. Certain ‘melanoma families’ display features of mendelian inheritance of cancer causing genes. It is critical that individuals with family members who have been diagnosed with melanoma be checked regularly for skin cancer. Patients with a history of one melanoma are at increased risk of developing a second primary tumour.

Do you suspect that you may have Melanoma?

Any mole that is irregular in color or shape should be examined by a doctor to determine if it is a malignant melanoma, the most serious and life-threatening form of skin cancer. Following a visual examination and a dermatoscopic exam (an instrument that illuminates a mole, revealing its underlying pigment and vascular network structure), the doctor may biopsy the suspicious mole. If it is malignant, the mole and an area around it needs excision by a surgeon or dermatologist.

The diagnosis of melanoma requires experience, as early stages may look identical to harmless moles or not have any color at all. Where any doubt exists, the patient will be referred to a specialist dermatologist.

How to Prevent Melanoma

Minimize exposure to sources of ultraviolet radiation (the sun and sunbeds).

Wearing long-sleeved shirts, long trousers, and broad-brimmed hats offers the best protection.

Use a sunscreen with an SPF rating of 30 or better on exposed areas.

Simple Preventive Measures to Avoid the Melanoma Cancer

Melanoma cancer is best prevented if people will refrain from getting exposed to UVA and UVB rays which is at its peak during 10 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon. It is best to apply a sunscreen with a broad-spectrum, typically that which contains SPF of 15 or higher before going out during this period of the day. Other ingredients found in sunscreens that are also beneficial include salicylates, sulisobenzone, cinnametes, benzophenones, ecamsule and avobenzone. But for persons with sensitive types of skin, it is best to use chemical free-sunblocks which contains either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
If you will stay too long under the sun, especially during the summer months is it advised that you reapply sunscreen lotion every two hours.

Wear protective clothing especially when driving using your motorcycle or walking near the beach or at the park. Wear wide-brimmed hats, long sleeved shirt, long pants and sunglasses to protect not only your skin but your eyes as well.

Avoid going to reflective surfaces like snow, water and sand because it can reflect up to eighty five percent of the damaging rays from the sun.

Avoid application of tanning solution because most of these products are rejected by the FDA due to it carcinogenic contents.

Apply lip balm which has sunscreen of SPF fifteen or higher to protect your lips from the sun’s rays.

Educate your children to refrain exposure from the sun during the above mentioned hours because studies show that excessive exposure under the sun during the first eighteen years of a person’s life is crucial in the development of melanoma.

There are several treatments for melanoma but the best treatment depends on the stage of cancer that you have.

Common Procedures for Melanoma Treatment

Surgery

You may wish to have your affected lymph nodes removed through surgery. This is necessary especially after your surgeon realizes that it has spread to your lymph nodes. Of course, additional treatments may be recommended to further assure the fast treatment of your melanoma.

Chemotherapy

This is a very strong drug that is used to destroy cancer cells. It can be administered intravenously or in pill form. Nevertheless, the most common form of administration is through the veins of the arm or in the legs through isolated limb perfusion. During this treatment, the blood in the leg or the arm isn’t allowed to travel to other areas of the body for a particular period of time so the chemotherapy drug will directly travel to around the infected area.

Radiation Therapy

This kind of treatment employs a high-powered energy beam, like those which are used in x-rays, to help kill cancer cells. It is preferred as treatment for symptoms of melanoma that has spread to other organs. Nevertheless, patients who will undergo these treatment procedures should prepare to experience fatigue because of the extreme amount of energy which your body will utilize while undergoing surgery.

Biological Therapy or Immunotherapy

This will help boost your immune system that is essential in helping the body fight cancer. It is composed of substances that are naturally produced by the body but are manufactured in laboratories. Side effects that are associated with this treatment include chill, fever, headache, fatigue, and muscle aches.

There are other experimental melanoma treatments which are being researched and observed by scientists and researchers. And we still await the success and effectiveness of these procedures.
