Cosplay: Who will you be?

It’s just a week to our Cosplay event on August 4th, which means if you’re going, you don’t have long to tie down those costume ideas.

And it’s not just Firefly and Serenity we like to see. Dr Horrible, Dollhouse, Buffy, Angel, anything Whedonverse is encouraged!

You could even dress up as any one of the Avengers now that Joss is directing!

A Horrible costume, extremely well made!

Here are just some suggestions:

Find an army surplus coat, some boots, suspenders and tight pants – Instant Mal!
Hawaiian shirt over.. well, anything really – Instant Wash!
Put on any clothing at all – you’re Echo on an engagement!
Dress in a suit and have some blue gloves – Bring a Friend!
Get some Old West gear and be the Bad Horse Chorus – ambush others!

CSTS Launch Party Recap

The launch of our Season of Serenity took place on July 14th at Loop in Melbourne. We had a pretty good turnout with about 20 people there to watch Done The Impossible on a big screen.
We held an auction, with a signed photo of Alan Tudyk going home with a happy winner, and a raffle with prizes of Finding Serenity, Serenity Found, a handmade Jayne hat, the Jayne “Troublemaker” T-shirt, an Alliance money pack, and a “Curse Your Sudden but Inevitable Betrayal” T-shirt.

By all accounts it was a great night, and promises to be even better for the Cosplay Event on August 4th, where there will be more auctions, raffles, prizes and merch on sale, along with discounted tickets to our Main Event on August 28th.

I should also point out, the merchandise and prizes on offer at these smaller events are just a sample of what we have for you. We have lots of the QMx T-shirts available, as well as some unique designs from a very talented artist. And trust me, there will be some very nice items up for auction at Can’t Stop The Serenity 2010.

Joss Whedon in Melbourne and Sydney

As posted previously, Joss Whedon is going to be at the Sydney Opera House on Sunday, August 29th, with tickets for that going on sale on Friday, June 23rd to the general public. However, there is now a link to Register for Pre-sale tickets. If you’re in Sydney, you might want to look to that.

In other news, tickets are sold out for Joss Whedon’s Keynote address at the Melbourne Writer’s Festival on Friday, August 27th (they sold out very quickly I might add).

Now that just leaves Saturday 28th August. That’s one whole day in between those two events. What, I wonder, could Joss do with that time? See the galleries? Visit the museum? He might want to catch a movie…
But what movie? If only there was a screening of an old favourite on that weekend that he could attend…. Hang on… wait a minute… hold the phone! There is! There’s our event! Our Can’t Stop the Serenity 2010! The 5th anniversary of CSTS here in Melbourne! Joss could come to our screening!

Joss will be at the Sydney Opera House on August 29th (just one day after our CSTS Main Event!)

Joss Whedon will be appearing at the Melbourne Writers Festival at the keynote speaker on 27 August 2010.

In this keynote event, Joss will talk about his ongoing love affair with the popular, and his fascination with outsider heroes, strong women, and the uses and abuses of power. He will also discuss the creative ways he’s worked across a variety of media forms – in films from Toy Story to the forthcoming Avengers film, in TV series’ from Buffy through Firefly and Glee, and across a vast range of comics.

He will be speaking at the Melbourne Town Hall and tickets are just $55 (available through www.mwf.com.au. Pre-sales are available now and tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday 16 July at 11am.

Online ticket sales for this year’s shindig are now available. You can purchase your tickets to CSTS Melbourne 2010 from Dramatix for $18 (that’s including the booking fee).

A limited number of tickets to the August 28 feature event will also be available at the CSTS Launch Party – 14 July 2010 and the CSTS Cosplay Celebration – 4 August 2010 . These tickets are cash only, and will be sold at the shiny price of $17, so get in early!

Tickets will also be available at the venue, on the day. These tickets will be $20, and will be cash only.

Welcome to the new Melbourne Browncoats website!

Most everything is where it used to be, some stuff is new, some stuff is moved, but it should be easy to find. I don’t think anything important went into the secret smuggling hideaway near the stairs…

If you do happen to find anything broken, please comment here and I’ll get it fixed up ASAP.

Otherwise, you’re welcome to visit the dining area any time. Apart from that, I have to ask you to stay in the passenger dorm while we’re in the air. The bridge, the engine room and the cargo bay are off limits without an escort.
