Just a quick reminder that the next Melbourne Cocoaheads meetup will be held on May 10th. I’ve also pushed the June meetup back a week (now June 21st) because WWDC falls on the second week of the month, and I figure we’ll all want to hear what went on at the conference from the Cocoaheads contingent when they get back (without breaking NDA’s of course).

April 12th Meetup

For our April meetup Rob Caporetto will be covering the ins & outs of the Core Motion framework. He’ll present an introduction to reading motion events in your iOS applications, along with some advice on how best to avoid potential pitfalls you might run into.

Oliver Jones will also give a quick review and demonstration of AppCode, the Objective-C IDE from JetBrains.

March 15th Meetup

For our March meetup Chaise Hocking from Shine Technologies will present his experiences using CouchDB on iOS. CouchDB is a document-oriented database that can be queried and indexed using JavaScript in a MapReduce fashion. CouchDB also offers incremental replication with bi-directional conflict detection and resolution, which is particularly handy in disconnected mobile environments.

In his presentaiton, Chaise will cover:

Background of the problem he had to solve
What CouchDB promised & why it was selected
What CouchDB did well
What CouchDB didn’t do well
Overcoming these problems
Would he use it again?

We’ll also have Chris Miles demonstrating his CMTraerPhysics library and the usual ‘Made in Melbourne’ app showcases.

Given the large turnout last month and the limited space, I’ve set up registration through Eventbrite for the meetups going forward. I’ve allocated 80 tickets (all free) on a first come first served basis. It’ll also help to know the numbers for catering purposes.
