Prom, second shooting a wedding and a few other model rep sessions mixed with family sessions. Time to catch up! Meet Mr. Cam, my male model from Sunset High School. I’ve gotten to know Cam and his family over the past year and love the warm and welcoming feeling I get whenever I’m around them and their extended family. They’re just down right good people. We tried out a few more creative things with lights in the studio but I’m looking forward to hopefully hooking Cam up with some DJ equipment and doing a fun mini shoot to show off his love for music. For now, here’s a sneak peek of his model session images and a few things you may or may not know about Cam….

What I love most about model reps is 1) getting the senior season started early in the spring, 2) getting an early start on meeting the soon to be Portland high school seniors and 3) having the opportunity to experiment with new photography techniques. This year we’re having fun playing in the studio. The other great thing that I love about model reps is their willingness to try new things too. I do try to mix it up with more ‘normal’ portraits too. I had a great time with Lisa and her sister when they came to the studio last week. Check out this sneak peek from her session!

Here are a few fun facts about Lisa:

3 words hat best describe you: funny, feisty, genuine

Your fave place to hang with your besties: The pool or each other’s houses

Favorite FOOD: RIBS

Favorite MOVIE: Whip It

I don’t know how to rollerskate

I hate walking/jogging up hills, I always have to sprint them.

I’m half Japanese and can speak it fluently.

I’m not afraid of heights, but I hate jumping off things.

I’m really really gullible.

I make the world’s best banana bread.

I was overwhelmed with the response that so many people wanted to participate. These moms and their cute kids contributed $460 towards the Japan Relief fund effort this past weekend. Everyone was so generous. I even had the opportunity to meet an ‘atomic refugee’ – apparently CNN’s dubbed term for Americans living in Japan that have been asked to evacuate due to the potential radiation from the nuclear plants. I always enjoy doing events like this because 1) I get to meet interested individuals (and their families), 2) contribute towards a good cause, and 3) have the opportunity to give back to those who contributed with images of relationships.

If you missed out on last weekend’s event, you have another opportunity to participate this Sunday, April 10th at Bethany Athletic Club in NW Portland – click here for details! Hope to see you there! Big kids, little kids, ALL are welcome!

I would only wager to guess that the entire Class of 2011 has definitely got a bad case of ’senioritis’ and the Class of 2012 is ready for the summer before their senior year to be here. Meet Alli – another Senior Model Rep from Westview HS. Alli brought a ton of clothes to choose from and I had a lot of fun picking out clothes from the closet of wardrobe that she brought, in addition to playing with lights in the studio. I was really happy that she brought her mom along (aka ‘my assistant’ ). She was a great sport and I always laugh because moms will ask, “What do you do if someone isn’t here to help?” To which I responded…”there is almost always someone that tags along because they want to watch…and if there’s not, I make do with what I have.” It’s just easier sometimes if someone is tagging along to give them something to do. However, I am grateful that you were there to help out Ginny! Alli told me that she was interested in fashion/make up design so I wanted to make sure that one of her images captured something that had to do with fashion. Beautiful, stylish and she knows what she wants! I’m looking forward to our senior session this summer with Alli and her besties!

Enjoy your sneak peek!

Some things you may or may not know about Alli:

3 WORDS that best describe ME: fun, friendly happy

Fave MOVIE: The Notebook

Fave get ready song(s): anything RIHANNA

Fave place to hang with your besties? Anywhere as long as I am with them.

One piece of technology I can’t live without: my cell phone

I am shy but I love to meet new people

My twi best friends I have known since I was 5!I love you guys!

I don’t have a favorite animal or color because it is too hard to choose!

I want to get a tattoo someday even though I am deathly afraid of needles

Before HS is over, I would love to go skydiving!

I had the privilege of photographing Dominique Keel from Westview High School. We send our Model Reps to get their make up done at Blush Beauty Bar and then they come hang out with me for a little bit to be photographed for their model rep portraits. The fun part for both of us is that I get to try new portrait techniques with my reps and they get to have fun being my model for the day! One of my favorite parts about photographing high school seniors is getting to know each individual personally and the challenge of trying to incorporate something creative that shows their personality, uniqueness and something important to them. Something that I felt strongly about for Dominique’s model shoot was having the opportunity to incorporate the presence of her father in her life. While we have never directly had a discussion about her father, I know that family is one of the most important things in her life and unfortunately, Dominique and her family lost this important man in their lives last year. The night before her model shoot, I asked Dominique to scan a few photos of her and her father to incorporate into her senior model shoot at the studio in Portland. For her last portraits, I projected the images of her and her father onto her white shirt and this is what we got. While you may not be able to recognize the snapshot, I hope in the process, I was able to create something meaningful and memorable for you D.

Here are a few fun facts about Dominique:

FAVORITE FOOD: Fried Chicken

She runs track for Westview HS and her PR for the 100m is 12:06 – pretty much smokes me!

Fave place to hang with my besties: Reina’s house or mine

FAVE TV SHOW: Grey’s Anatomy

The first 7 years of my life were consumed by bowling

I won state 3 years in a row for bowling

My MOM is definitely my best friend

Current FAVE get ready song: One Less Lonely Girl by Justin Bieber OR Speak Now by Taylor Swift

FAVE SAYING: “That’s outta control!”

3 words that best describe you… DRIVEN, GRATEFUL, OUTGOING

The 2010-2011 school year is nearly 2/3 of the way over which means more change to come over the next several months. Prom is just around the corner, kids applying to option/charter schools, high school seniors are still anxiously awaiting to hear their college acceptance letters, and high school seniors start to enter – if they’re not already there – the ‘checked’ out stage where SENIORitis is if full swing – especially after spring break! I’m always interested to hear what the next chapter in life has to hold for the high school seniors that come to our studio for their senior pictures.
As my Class of 2012 Model Reps start to come in for their scheduled model shoots for their senior portraits, it also puts me at a reflection point for the Class of 2011. I did a quick random selection today and wanted to pick a random Senior Model Rep to ‘spotlight’ before the end of the month.

Here are 5 things that you should know about Jem:

Jem intern’d at Nike Philippines last summer

3 words she would use to describe herself: fun, hardworking and energetic

3 words her friends would use to describe her: outgoing, friendly and a compassionate

Jem lived in the Philippines and Singapore moving to Oregon

Jem wants to major in Business with an emphasis in Marketing (at least – the last time she told me!)

As I’ve had the opportunity to get to know Jem more over the past year in the shorts spurts of time I’ve had with her, I would have to say that one word that comes to mind when I think if Jem is, she is ‘driven‘. She’s the kind of person that knows what she wants out of life at such a young age, and based on my experience with her, I know that she is going to go far and accomplish any goal or dream that she wants to accomplish.

With Prom just around the corner for my Westview HS clients, I’m going to throw a little special opportunity in here for Jem and her friends – ‘LIKE’ this post below & get 40 comments on this blog post & we’ll get you some killer prom pictures for this year’s prom season!

If you’re in the Class of 2011 and haven’t had your senior pictures taken yet, it’s not too late….and, if you’re in the Class of 2012, applications are still be accepted for Senior Models! Apply Today!

We’ve all seen the news and have watched from afar the destruction that has been caused by the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. As relief efforts are in full effect, there is still continued help and support needed for the people of Japan.

This year, we had planned on hosting a Mommy & Me event. We would like to offer the opportunity for you to have your annual Mother’s Day portrait take place now. In lieu of charging a session fee, we request a minimum suggested donation of $20 per child to Portland Mercy Corp’s Oregon Japan Relief Fund.

Portraits will be a white background. Jeans and complementary colors will photograph best. Little and small, big and tall – this portrait event is NOT limited to little kids.

Taylor made me work for her images during her newborn session. However, her brother was a total breeze! And it’s a good thing…because mom and dad are now 2 on 2 …. under the age of 2! Thanks guys for giving me the honor to continue to be part of your family. Enjoy your sneak peek!
