Calling All Young Padawans . . .

I can't tell you how excited my three padawans were when we were invited to come to a special media screening of the new LEGO Star Wars Miniland Model. This exhibit is a large-scale, interactive model, clearly made of LEGOs.

I have to admit that it was pretty impressive. The Millenium Falcon actually rises from the depths of the Tattoine. There are special features tucked away in nooks and crannies just waiting for the kids to find them. My oldest son was the most thrilled with the interactive game that allowed him to join in on the fascinating scene before him. (The only negative is that there is ONE and only ONE of these games in the entire building so when it's busy that's going to be a battle waiting to happen.)

This feature is only going to be at the Legoland Discovery Center in Grapevine for a limited time, so if you have kids who are as Star Wars nuts as mine are, you'll want to get out there soon.

If you have toddlers (4 & under) you can go on Toddler Tuesdays where you pay $14 for a special package with one adult and two toddler tickets. The Villain in Me Comes Out

So . . . if you hadn't heard . . . we're going on a cruise in October. A Disney cruise. And my best friend is a little bit nuts and talked me into having a theme at every meal where we dressed like different Disney characters.

In the process of planning, I lobbied for a "Villain Night" and she gave in because she loves me like that. Over the last couple of months I have been on the search for the perfect outfit - dressy with a splash of evil. Something different, a bit edgy. Something that will be bold and look good at the same time.

I plan to wear it as a dress with a belt. No tights like the model in the picture, but maybe some tall spiky boots to complete the villain feeling.

One of the cool things is that the packages arrive as they were prepared in the foreign country that they are from. I love the way this looks, and I think it would be a great way to send a unique and special gift to someone.

I've complained and shared before about post-baby weight, stretch marks, and extra skin.

Last year, I lost 30 lbs. and was still frustrated with all of the stretched out skin around my middle. No matter what I ate or how hard I worked out, I couldn't get it to go away.

This shirt arrived in the mail from Resurrecting Vintage this week. While our whole crew is planning Disney outfits, my husband has been the sole hold out. He isn't dying to plaster Disney all over himself, and yet he doesn't want to be the only party pooper either.

So when I saw this shirt I knew this might be a perfect solution. Sold on Etsy by Resurrecting Vintage this is a red and black vintage Mickey shirt originally sold by Disneyland in the USA.

This is actually a picture of him in the shirt and he loved the softness, the relaxed broken in look and the not-so-glaring look. I'm actually excited that it won't shrink or distort in proportion when I wash and dry it.

Now if I can just find about 6 more just like this . . .

There haven't been many personal posts from me in quite some time. I find I can't schedule them; I simply have to wait until it comes pouring from my emotions through my brain and into my fingertips.

Apparently today, I have something to say.

I've been reading a really challenging book with an unusual title. Brace yourself - it's God and Boobs by Angie Schuller-Wyatt. Yep, Schuller, as in Robert Schuller of the Crystal Cathedral. It's written by his granddaughter. I was a little wary when I received a copy to review. Honestly I was afraid it was going to be irreverent at best and unbiblical at worst. But I haven't found that to be true. In fact, I've been very surprised to find it challenging and encouraging of me as a believer and as a woman - fully and completely, a woman.

One of the things that it mentioned is how often we misinterpret the verse "Guard your heart for out of it are all the issues of life." Growing up this verse was used regularly to explain to us that we should not freely give our hearts away or we would have nothing left to give when the time was important. (In reality it is a warning of WHO we give our heart to. It echoes the sentiment, "Do not cast your pearls before swine.")

I learned just as early in life that I didn't possess this capability. I could guard my heart, sure enough, I could choose those that I gave my heart to, but I failed miserably at containing my heart. I couldn't figure out how to love with part of me or in a good, steady measure. When I was in, I was ALL in. But, you know, time and wisdom have taught me that regardless of how much of your heart you give, in the end EVERYONE you give your heart to will break it. We are all infallible, imperfect people who make mistakes. We're going to let down the people we love. We're going to fall, flat on our faces at times. But if you could figure out a way to completely avoid being hurt, you would ultimately find you had also discovered how to completely avoid being truly, deeply loved as well.

This is truly how I approach life. I don't see any reason to settle for "ordinary" - I want everything to be big, deep, strong, passionate, dramatic, sometimes overwhelming, but always meaningful and important. Unfortunately, because apparently that approach to life is not typical, all kinds of motives have been assigned to my actions. It's a struggle when people don't get it or can't get comfortable with the way I express my feelings, but it doesn't make it wrong. I feel as if I'm called to be honest, vulnerable, transparent and to love with everything in me.

When it gets confusing and hurtful and tiring, I remember that one day our lives, our world, our love will no longer be tainted by sin and our broken human nature. One day we will all love with abandon. Oh how I long for that day . . .

Exciting Things Coming . . .

So, my blog has definitely taken a back seat for the last few months or so and it's time for that to change.

We are completely, ridiculously, overwhelmingly planning for our upcoming Disney cruise with our kids. Personally, I think I feel like I should keep myself busy so I don't have time to wonder about how vacation and kids can go in the same sentence . . . but it's been fun and we have found great deals along the way, as well as some unique, handmade items that might not be quite bargains.

Chi-mendous Kid's Activity!

This week I had the privilege of taking my boys along with one of their best friends to see the premiere of the new 4D movie of Lego Legends of Chima now showing at Legoland in Grapevine.

It was super fun. Of course my boys being on the cutting edge of Lego-everything have been talking about Chima for weeks now. When I surprised them and picked them up from school to go straight to the premiere they were AMAZINGLY excited.

We had popcorn and cokes from the snack bar and took them in with us to the movie. All of the boys - even the youngest at 2 - was captivated. **Spoiler Warning** Part of the 4D elements in the movie will get you wet. If you want to get the least amount wet sit on the far edges of the theater.

After the movie, we were able to enjoy all of the additional features that Legoland has to offer. We rode the City Lego cars, the Harry Potter ride, the shooting ride, raced our customized lego cars and let the kids played in the climbing/play area.

Can't wait until the next time we get back to Legoland. "Chi" you there!

DISNEY!

We've been wanting to take our kids to Disney and, more recently, trying to plan a vacation. Then when we found a special $799 pp price, we decided to combine those desires and take our oldest two boys on a Disney cruise out of Galveston.

Mickey called to tell the boys that we would be going, and I can't tell you how adorable their reactions were. They are incredibly excited and I have no doubt Disney will not disappoint.

While we are veteran cruisers, we are totally novice Disney peeps so if you have any great tips, please share them.

I had the opportunity recently to review Double Blind by Brandilyn Collins. Over the last several years, I've gotten more and more book submissions for me to review. And as much as I love books, sometimes they're just plain hard to read, hard to follow or flat out boring.

But Double Blind had captured my attention after the first page. The premise is that a brain chip has been invented that will eliminate depression if you have it implanted directly into your brain. The main character - Lisa Newberry - finds herself accepted into the trial stage of this new product.

Unfortunately, the products works but brings with it horrific visions that take her to the edge of insanity. Can she convince the proper authorities that something is wrong? Or is it really all in her head?
