Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi is a Malayalam road movie directed and co-produced by Sameer Thahir and written by Hashir Muhammad. The film features Dulquer Salmaan, Dhritiman Chatterjee and Sunny Wayne in the lead roles. The film began shooting in the north-eastern state of Nagaland in February 2013 and completed its shoot in June 2013. The film was shot at real locations in seven Indian states, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, West Bengal, Nagaland and Sikkim. The audio release was done on 28 July.The movie was released in theatres across Kerala on 9 August. The film revolves around two college students who go on a road trip to Nagaland from Kerala.

Gireesh Puthenchery

Gireesh Puthenchery (1961 – 10 February 2010) was a noted Malayalam lyricist and screenwriter. He also served as a governing council member of the Indian Performance Rights Society (IPRS). He won the Kerala State Film Award for the best Lyricist of the year seven times. He died on February 10, 2010 in Kozhikode.

Life and career

Gireesh was born to Pulikkal Krishna Panicker and Meenakshiyamma in Puthenchery near Ulliyeri village in Kozhikode district. His father was an Astrologer and Ayurvedic practitioner and his mother was a Carnatic musician.
Beginning his career in the 1988 film Chakravaalathinappuram, Girish went on to write lyrics for about 1556 songs in about 328 Malayalam films. His first popular hit songs were from the movie Johny Walker. During a career spanning over two decades, he had penned many hit songs in Malayalam cinema. He was also one of the most honoured lyricists, having won the State Award seven times including four in consecutive years from 2001 to 2004. Happy Husbands released on January 14, 2010 was his last film.
Besides writing lyrics for several hit songs, Girish had also written the Screenplay for the films Brahmarakshassu, Pallavoor Devanarayanan and Vadakkunnathan and story for Kinnaripuzhayoram and Melepparambil Aanveedu. He was scripting a film by the name of Raman Police in which Mohanlal was expected to play the lead role.

Death

Girish was admitted to a private Hospital in Kozhikode after he suffered a stroke on 6 February 2010.He was twice operated upon, but his condition did not improve and he suffered a brain haemorrhage and died at the hospital on February 10, 2010. He was survived by his wife Beena and two sons Jithin Krishnan and Dinanath.

V. Dakshinamoorthy (b. 22 Dec 1919) is a veteran carnatic musician and music director of Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi films, predominantly in Malayalam films. He has set scores for the songs in over 125 films. He is now retired from film music direction but is still active in classical music^[1]. He has to his credit as many as 859 songs composed over a a period of 50 years.In the year 2008, at 90 years he composed 4 songs for a Malayalam Movie Mizhikal Sakshi.
Biography
Dakshinamoorthy was born on 22 December 1919 as Venkateswaran Dakshinamoorthy, to D. Venkateswara Iyer and Parvathi Ammal in Alappuzha, Kerala, India. His interest in music was nurtured by his mother who taught him keerthanas of Thyagaraja Swamikal when he was still a child. After finishing S.S.L.C., he learned carnatic music form Venkatachalam Potty in Trivandrum.
He learned more about carnatic music and became an expert of it. He debuted in the film industry with Nalla Thanka, produced by Kunchacko and Koshy under the banner of K & K Productions. The hero of the film was Augustin Joseph, father of renowned singer K. J. Yesudas. The film also had songs sung by Augustin. Dakshinamoorthy went on to set scores for K. J. Yesudas and his son Vijay Yesudas (for the film Poomukhappadiyil Ninneym Kathu, directed by Bhadran) as well, thus achieving a rare treat.
He set the scores for many songs written by Sreekumaran Thampi, forming a famous musician-songwriter duo like the Vayalar Ramavarma - G. Devarajan and P. Bhaskaran - Baburaj duos. He had R. K. Shekhar, father of the music director A. R. Rahman as his assistant for a few films, who later became a musician in his own right. He went on to direct music for over 125 films including Navalokam, Seetha, Viyarppinte Vila, Sri Guruvayoorappan, Kadamattathachan and Indulekha.
His evergreen compositions include Swapnangal... Swapnangale ningal...(Kavyamela), Pattu padiyurakkan njan...(Seetha), Uthara swayamvaram...(Danger Biscuit), Kattile pazhmulam...(Vilaykku Vangiya Veena) and Vathil pazhuthilooden...(Idanazhiyil Oru Kalocha). He was guru of many singers and Music Directors including P. Leela, P. Susheela, Kalyani Menon and Ilaiyaraja. In 1971 he won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director.
In 2003, he received the coveted 'Sangeetha Saraswathi' Award from the hands of revered Poojya Sri Guruji Viswanath of Manava Seva Kendra, Bangalore.

Ravi Shankar Sharma, better known by his first name Ravi, is an Indian music director, who has composed music for several Hindi and Malayalam films. After a successful career in Hindi films, he took a break from 1970s to 1984, and made a successful comeback as Bombay Ravi.

Biography

Ravi Sharma gave several hit songs and received Filmfare nominations for these films: Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960), Do Badan (1966), Humraaz (1967), Ankhen (1968), and Nikaah (1982). He won Filmfare awards for Gharana(1961) and Khandaan (1965).^[1] His other successful films include Waqt, Neel Kamal and Gumraah. His songs Aaj mere yaar ki shaadi hai, Babul ki duyaen leti ja and Doli chadh ke dulhan sasural chali became very popular in wedding celebrations. He was one of the music directors who shaped the career of Asha Bhosle with songs like Tora man darpan. He was also instrumental in making Mahendra Kapoor a popular singer in Bollywood. After a successful career in Hindi films during 1950s and 1960s, he took a long break after 1970 till 1982. In 1982, he gave music for the Hindi film Nikaah, and one of the film's songs Dil ke armaan aansooyon main beh gaye sung by Salma Agha won her the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award.

In 1980s, he made a comeback as a music director in Malayalam (and some Hindi) films as Bombay Ravi. During 1984, the famous Malayalam director Hariharan convinced him to start a second innings especially for his lovers in South India. The first movie was Panchagni. The songs saagarangaLE and aa raatri maanju poyi (sung by Yesudas and Chitra) were hits. All the songs from the malayalam movie "Vaisali" released in 1989 were super hits and Chithra won National Award for the song "Indupushpam Choodi Nilkum" from the same movie.Ravi released some albums thereafter. Ravi has composed for many films produced by South Indian banners - Ghoonghat, Gharana, Grihasti, Aurat, Samaj ko badal dalo (Gemini), Meherban, Do kaliyan (AVM) Bharosa, Khandaan (Vasu films). So his trips to Madras were frequent. In fact he mentions that he was close to the late Sivaji Ganesan.

M. G. Radhakrishnan is a senior music director in the South Indian film and music industries. He is a disciple of Sree Vidyadhiraja Hridayanjali, an Indian ascetic, and has composed music for ascetic's lyrics, was sung by his sister Dr. K Omanakutty, a Carnatic vocalist. He has also composed the poems of Kamala Das (also known as Kamala Suraiya), a famous Indian writer. Radhakrishnan introduced K. S. Chithra, a famous singer and a student of Omanakutty, to the film and music industry by employing her in the film Attahaasam. His brother M. G. Sreekumar is an Indian playback singer in Malayalam and Tamil cinema.

Vidyasagar (Tamil: வித்யசாகர்) is an Indian music director and music composer in the Tamil and Malayalam film industry. ^[1]His compositions include "Nee Katru", "Orey Manam","Appadi Podu" as well as classical numbers like "VaralManjal", "Anandam Anandam" or "Kana Kandenadi". Vidyasagar has lately been composing fast numbers for movies starring Tamil stars Vikram, Vijay, Ajith, and R. Madhavan.

Biography

Vidyasagar was born into a Telugu Brahmin family of musicians and brought up in Chennai. His father U. Ramachander was a musician who could play eight instruments^{[citation needed]} and his grandfather Varaha Narasimha Murthy was the court 'Vidhwan' for the king of Vijayanagaram Bobili in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Vidyasagar started learning vocal classical music and harmonium from his father at the age of four. When he was eight-years-old Vidyasagar joined Dhanraj Master. In fact both A. R. Rahman and Vidyasagar had joined on the same day. Vidyasagar learnt guitar for 3-4 years there, then the piano. Vidyasagar studied Western classical music at the Trinity College of Music, London.

At age of eleven, Vidyasagar knew how to play a dozen musical instruments and signed up to work as a regular musician for many music directors. Vidyasagar could play for all languages because then, most films had their recording at Chennai. Vidyasagar wanted to then compose his own tunes and have someone else play them. He had assisted various music directors and even done ghost music for some of them. So he had the experience and wanted to compose independently.

1989 to 1996

Vidyasagar became an independent music director with the song "En Anbe" in the 1989 Tamil movie 'Poomanam' directed by Rajasekhar (Robert). Though Vidyasagar started his music career with a Tamil film, recognition in Tamil music industry came to him much later. He shifted base to Telugu and from 1993 to 1996, Vidyasagar became the top music director in Telugu.

In 1994-95, Vidyasagar was picked up by Tamil actor-director Arjun, with whom he worked for many musically acclaimed films like 'Jai Hind', 'Karna', 'Subash' and 'Sengothai' though the movies themselves didn't do well. Vidyasagar composed some of his best music for Arjun's films with some melodic numbers like 'Malare', 'Bhoomiae', and 'Padu Padu' some of which went unnoticed. After a not so impressive start in Tamil film industry Vidyasagar was discovered by Malayalam film industry.

1996 to 2001

From 1996 to 2001 Vidyasagar mainly concentrated on Malayalam films where he became the top music director. In Malayalam right from his first film "Azhagiya Ravanan" to "Meesa Madhavan" he struck the right cord. He has created scores in which ragas and rhythms combined to a good melody, which even bagged him four Kerala State Awards. Vidyasagar's love for melody has made him turn to Malayalam film industry time and again, and the songs in hit films like Azhagiya Ravanan, Meesa Madhavan, Gramaphone, CID Moosa and Kilichundan Mambazham were all well received.

In his music he experienced all kinds of song situations and he explored his talent to the maximum in that period. His film 'Pranayavarnangal' is still considered by many one of the best albums ever cut in Malayalam industry^{[citation needed]}. Malayalee listeners still see Vidyasagar as their hot favourite after Ravindran. Undoubtedly the talented music director has given his best in malayalam film industry.

His career best was "Millennium Stars"(1999),in Malayalam, which was a WorldClass soundtrack.Some songs were Bilingual, and India's best singers,Dr. K.J. Yesudas and Hariharan sang together in these songs.Songs like "Parayan Nhaan Marannu" and "Shravan Gange" in this movie, were truly of the class of the world's top soundtracks.

During this period, Vidyasagar's song compositions in Tamil movies like 1998 Vijay starrer "Nilaave Vaa" and "Uyirodu Uyiraaga" starring Ajith did catch attention and became quite popular but still the bad patch in Tamil films continued for Vidyasagar during this period. Vidyasagar was probably the only composer in South India who has delivered many super hit songs during his early days but was not considered a success. Even today, some of Vidyasagar's prior songs composed for movies are sung by music troupes. But the total success of the film counts ultimately because the music director will be identified with the film.

2001 to Present

After a successful Malayalam career he made a come back into Tamil with "Dhill" and "Poovellam Un Vasam". Songs in both of these films were instant hits. Then came "Dhool" which opened new doors in Tamil songs with highly successful folk song 'Ithanadu Kara Kodumae', and great melody in 'Aasai Aasai'. With "Dhool" and "Dhill" under his belt, Vidyasagar was the talk of the town, for which he had to wait for 13 years. With a successful come back he then went on to give music to some of most successful films of the year 2002-2003 like "Anbe Sivam" and Madhavan's "Run" which was a huge musical hit as well as commercial hit. The music composed by Vidyasagar for movies released in 2003 "Iyarkai", "Thithukudhe", "Parthiban Kanavu" were highly popular in spite of the fact that some of these movies failed at the box office. Vijay's "Thirumalai" was another hit album.

^[4]The year 2004 saw Vidyasagar come up with "Ghilli" which was an instant hit with song 'Appadi Podu Podu' ruling the charts in Tamil music world. This was followed by other hits like "Madurey", "London" and "Ji" in 2004-05. In the year 2005 Vidyasagar received national award for the Telugu movie 'Swarabhishkam' by K. Vishwanath featuring carnatic classical music.^[5] Vidyasagar continued his success spree by composing music for Rajnikanth starrer 'Chandramukhi' (he mentions this as a call from God), which was the biggest hit of the year 2005 and a comeback movie for Rajnikanth. The audio of the movie was a best seller and the BGM (Back Ground Music) of the film was also released for the first time in the Indian music industry. He has composed music for the Hollywood movie "Beyond the Soul" directed by Rajeev Anchal. The 2004-05 year also saw him score music for the Hindi movie "Hulchul" from Priyadarshan. With Mozhi, Vidyasagar once again gave listeners some songs like "Katrin Mozhiye" and "Sevvanam Selaikatti" which were instant hits of 2007. In 2008 Vidyasagar came with chart topping songs for "Kuruvi" starring Vijay. "Kuruvi"'s music was well received by music critics and Vijay's fans. In 2008-2009, Vidyasagar gave multiple melodious hits for the movie 'Abhium Nanum'. The song 'Va Va En Dhevadhaye', which expresses the bond between a father and daughter is considered to be one of the best lilting melodies of the year.

Vidyasagar is now a well known figure in the Tamil film music, often for his hugely popular numbers composed for movies starring Tamil super stars Vijay and Vikram. As said by Vidyasagar in an interview about recognition for music, "When success eludes you, nobody is bothered about you, what you know and what you could do. That is why mediocrity succeeds. If you are successful, nobody questions your knowledge.".

Awards

He won Prestigious National Award for the best Music Director for the movie 'Swarabhishekam (Telugu)' in 2006.

MB Sreenivasan(1925 – 1988), or MBS, as he was popularly called, was a famous Malayalam music director.

Biography

Born Manamadurai Balakrishnan Srinivasan to an orthodox Brahmin family on September 11, 1925 in Chithoor, Andhra Pradesh. He had his schooling at P.S. High School, Chennai. During his college days at Madras Presidency College, he was attracted to communist ideals and joined the Madras Students Organisation. His acquaintance with Nimoy Ghosh, a Bengali director, paved his entry into films. His first film music score was written to the words of noted Tamil lyricist, Jayakanthan, for the Tamil film Pathaitheriyathpaar. He played a major part in the formation of Indian Peoples Theatre Association (IPTA). He had also acted in a Malayalam movie, Agraharathile Kazhutha.

He was married to Zahida Kitchlew, a Kashmiri Muslim. They had a son, Kabir. He died of a heart attack in the Lakshadweep islands on March 9, 1988.

Mohammad Sabir "Baburaj" (also known as M. S. Baburaj, Malayalam: ബാബുരാജ്‌) was a Malayalam music composer. He is often credited for the renaissance of Malayalam film music.
Early years
His early childhood was spent in destitution and poverty. His father, Jan Muhammed Khan, who was a Hindustani musician from Bengal who frequently held concerts in Kerala, deserted his Malayali mother when he was very young, and returned to his native Kolkata. Baburaj thus became a semi-orphan, often singing songs in trains to make a living. But as luck would have it, a policeman, Kunjahammed (he was called Kunjahammed Ka), an enthusiast of music, from his native town of Kozhikode, noticing the boy's vocal talents, decided to adopt him
Music career
One of his greatest achievements was the introduction Hindustani strains into Malayalam popular music. He successfully composed melodies based on Hindustani Ragas and blended Malayalam lyrics in them. Most of the lyrics were written by eminent poets of Kerala like P. Bhaskaran and Vayalar.
Baburaj though a successful composer, was never a careerist. He was known to be an alcoholic and finally died nearly a pauper. Today, various clubs and musical organisations conduct many stage programs in honor of Baburaj (Babuka to his own townspeople), and their earnings are handed over to his family. The Manorama Music company, chanced upon an old audio cassette of Baburaj rendering some of his own compositions. It was recorded during those heady musical evenings that Baburaj and his friends occasionally indulged in during the 1960s. The cassette was re-mixed and became an instant hit.

Johnson is a two time National Award winning Indian composer of film scores who has given music to some of the most important motion pictures of Malayalam cinema. He is noted for his lyrical and expressive melodies together with simple but rich tonal compositions of thematic music. Johnson is the only composer of Malayalee origin who has won a National Award for the best composition.

Biography

Johnson was born in Thrissur, Kerala in South India to a Christian ("Nasrani") family. His parents were Antony and Mary. Johnson completed his B. Com degree from Saint Thomas College, Thrissur. While young, he learned to play the violin and studied basic elements of European classical music. In his youth he was involved with a music group called 'Voice of Trichur', of which he was the music composer. The group used to perform music throughout Thrissur and neighbouring regions in Kerala. This brought him in contact with a music director of Malayalam cinema, G Devarajan. Devarajan offered him assignments in the film industry as an assistant music composer. Later, Johnson got his first major assignment as main composer for the film 'Aaravam' (1978).

He came to prominence through his collaboration with the great Malayalam director Padmarajan. This productive collaboration saw the detailed screenplay and cinematography of Padmarajan become a fertile ground for expressive musical narration and thematic scores for Johnson. This is seen in some of the greatest motion pictures of Malayalam cinema, like Namukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukal (1986), Oru minnaaminungintaey nurunguvettam (1987), Nombarathipoovu (1987) and Perumthachan (1990). He is also noted for his collaboration with the Malayalam lyricist Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri. Johnson is affectionately called as the 'John Williams' of Malayalam cinema, after the legendary Hollywood composer John Williams. Johnson won National awards for two consecutive years. He won his first National Award in 1994 for the motion picture Ponthan Mada (1993). The next year he got his second award for best background music (Sukrutham)

His skilful integration of textual rhythm of the lyrics together with rich tonal arrangement, redefined songwriting in Malayalam cinema, since the late 1980s. In his film scores, Johnson combines native South Indian melodic patterns with the harmonic structure of European classical music and this has attained an expressive form of narration through film score.

Off late, he is working as a jury member of the reality show Gandharva Sangeetham in Kairali TV, a Malayalam television channel.

Pulloottupadathu Bhaskaran Nair better known as P. Bhaskaran (April 21, 1924 - February 25, 2007) was a famous Malayalam poet and lyricist of Malayalam film songs. He penned about 3000 songs for close to 250 films. He also had directed and acted in several Malayalam films. He was a journalist and an All India Radio employee before becoming active in the film industry. He was well-known for simple but beautiful use of the language in his songs.

Early life

P. Bhaskaran was born on April 21, 1924 in Kodungallur, Thrissur. His father, Nandyelathu Padmanabha Menon was a poet, lawyer, journalist and Indian freedom fighter. His mother was Pulloottupadathu Ammalu Amma. Having inherited his father’s talent, he started to write poems when he was studying in 7^th standard. He fell in love with literature and communism when he was studying in Maharajas College, Eranakulam. He used to write poems in a local magazine. For taking part in the August Struggle, he was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment. After getting released, he went to Kozhikode and joined Deshabhimani Weekly.

Non-Film Career

P. Bhaskaran started to write songs for communist stage performers. His powerful songs gave headaches to the rulers and anti-communists and were banned in the (then) State of Travancore. His first poem collection was released in the title Villali. During the Communist Rebellion in Punnapra-Vayalar, he wrote a song titled Vayalar Garjikkunnu (Vayalar roaring) in the penname Ravi. The song, starting with the lines Uyarum Njan Nadake... rose to legendary stature in the days to come, during which the song was banned and he was expatriated from the (then) State of Travancore as per the orders of Dewan Sir C. P. Ramaswami Iyer. Then he went to Chennai (then Madras) to join the editorial board of the Jayakeralam daily. He used to write songs for Akashavani and that helped him to secure a job in Kozhikode Akashavani. In 1950’s, he got associated with the film industry. He quit his job in Akashavani and went to Chennai to start full-time film career.

Film career

Interestingly, P. Bhaskaran’s debut as a lyricist was for a Tamil film. He wrote the Malayalam lines for a multi-linguistic song in film Apurva Sahodarangal (1949)^[1]. The first Malayalam film song for which he wrote lyrics was Madhumadhuri... for the film Chandrika (1950)^[2]. In 1954, Bhaskaran along with Ramu Kariat directed the film Neelakkuyil^[3]. The movie is regarded as ushering in social realism in Malayalam cinema. It got the President's Silver Medal, first ever national recognition for a Malayalam film. Bhaskaran's 'Neelakkuyil' lyrics are cherished to this day. He was also a renowned film director. His films Adyakiranangal (1964)^[4], Irruttinde Athmavu (1969)^[5], and Thurakkatha Vathil (1971) ^[6] went on to win National Film Awards for various categories. He also acted in several films including Neelakkuyil. His most vibrant acting was arguably in the film Manoradham (1978), as a strict family head who has deep faith in astrology. He also directed several documentaries including the award winning Vallathol.

K. Raghavan (Malayalam: കെ. രാഘവന്‍) is a Malayalam music composer. Along with Baburaj, Raghavan is often credited for the renaissance of Malayalam film music.
Raghavan set a new trend in Malayalam film music with the release of the 1954 movie neelakkuyil. Renowned lyricist and Raghavan's friend P. Bhaskaran had penned the songs in Neelakkuyil'. Raghavan himself has rendered his voice for one of the songs in neelakkuyil. This song Kayalarikathu valayerinjappol went on to become an instant hit
Music career
In a career spanning over four decades, he has scored music for more than sixty Malayalam films and many of his compositions remain ever green classics in Malayalam. Raghavan infused the folk element into Malayalam film music and his rustic melodies replaced the then prevailing trend of imitations of popular Hindi tunes of the day

Paravoor Govindan Devarajan (Malayalam: പറവൂര്‍ ഗോവിന്ദന്‍ ദേവരാജന്‍), popularly known as G. Devarajan or Devarajan master, was a noted Malayalam music composer, died on March 14, 2006 in Chennai, at the age of 79.

He has scored music for more than three hundred Malayalam films, many dramas, twenty Tamil and four Kannada movies. Many of his compositions remain ever green classics in Malayalam. Besides, his music in the Tamil film 'Annai Velankanni' has received many accolades. Devarajan received Kerala Government's Best Music Director award for five times, among other honours.

Early life

Born at Paravur, near Kollam in Kerala, Devarajan rendered his first classical concert at the age of 18. He was soon attracted to the Communist movement and decided to dedicate his creative energy for popular music. He joined the once famous drama troupe of Kerala, the Kerala People's Arts Club (KPAC). The work that brought him to limelight was the drama song titled Ponnarivaal ambiliye kanneriyunnoole. KPAC and its members had a distinctive leaning towards the communist ideology, and their dramas did play a role in spreading the ideology among the Keralite masses. Through his compositions, Devarajan could cast an indelible imprint in the Malayali theatre arena, especially after the famous KPAC drama Ningalenne Communistaakki written by Thoppil Bhasi in 1952.

Film career

The first movie for which he composed music was Kaalam Maarunnu (1955). He teamed up with poet-lyricist Vayalar Ramavarma in Chathurangam in 1959. His third movie - and the second with Vayalar - Bharya (1962) became a huge hit and made them a popular combination. His captivating music earned him pride of place among those who had relentlessly strived to earn a dignified status for film songs. His combination with Vayalar produced the golden era of Malayalam film music. Devarajan is remembered by legendary singers in Malayalam like K. J. Yesudas and Jayachandran as their Godfather. In fact, it was the magical compositions by him that brought laurels to the main singers of that age.

Devarajan was the one who used maximum number of raaga's in Malayalam film music. His music embraced different styles with the Carnatic and Hindusthani melody lines meeting folk idioms and western harmony. Despite being an atheist, he composed brilliant devotional songs like Guruvayoor ambalanadayil,Chethi mandaram thulasi ,Nithya vishudhayam kanya mariyame etc. which are considered as classics in that genre. Also, he is particularly noted for his remarkable ability to blend the words of the lyrics with the mood of the situation, in his film song compositions. His compositions like Sanghupushpam, Sanyasini, Sanghamam, Chandrakalabham to name a few, surely come in the best and most popular songs in the Malayalam film music till now. Most of his hit songs were written by Vayalar Ramavarma and the combination of Vayalar-Devarajan was synonymous with beautiful songs. The Vayalar-Devarajan combine proved the most successful team till the death of Vayalar in the mid 1970s. Hundreds of songs contributed by the team are still part of Malayalis' nostalgia. Apart from Vayalar, he has also given tunes to the lyrics by other eminent poets and song writers like O. N. V. Kurup, P. Bhaskaran etc.

The name Devarajan master is remembered by Malayalam music lovers all over the world as the composer of deva raagas - divine melodies.

Devarajan master died of a heart attack at his residence in Chennai on March 14, 2006 at the age of 78. He was cremated with state honours in Paravur.

M. Raveendran (also known as "Raveendran master") was a popular Malayalam and South Indian music composer. He was always referred to as the aristocratic music director of Malayalam who had a distinctive style of his own.
He composed more than 150 films primarily for the Malayalam and Tamil film industries. He also composed a few albums including Vasantha Geethangal. He died in Chennai following a cardiac arrest. He was also suffering from cancer.

Early life

Born in Kulathupuzha in Kollam in 1943, Raveendran joined The Swathy Thirunnal Sangeetha College, Thiruvananthapuram after completing his formal schooling. He learned music along with noted singer K.J. Yesudas. Poverty in the family did not present him any ‘colourful’ days in his childhood. But he took those ‘dismal days’ positively and as a stepping stone for the 'hard' days ahead in his career as a sing
er and musician.
Kulathoopuzha Ravi (before changing his name to Raveendran) earlier had tested his vocal cords for 30 odd songs under various noted music directors including Baburaj. But he could not go on with the singer tag for long. Lack of opportunities in the field made him a dubbing artist and a singer in an orchestra troop. Then he turned to scoring music.
He has composed many soulful melodies. He started h
is career as a playback singer in the 1970s and evolved as one of the foremost music directors in South India, composing about 1,500 songs in 450 films, in addition to a number of light music and devotional albums.

Musical career

The famous playback signer K. J. Yesudas, a former classmate, altered the course of
Raveendran's life by persuading him to compose songs and thus he become a music director.
Director J.Sasikumar, commissioned Raveendran to score the music for "Choola"(1979). The song "Tharake Mizhiyithalil Kannerumayi…"], sung by Yesudas, became a superhit. Ever since that time, Raveendran ruled the roost of Malayalam film music with several super-hit songs.
Melody incorporated with the aspects of Carnatic music were the hallmark of his songs. By the release of Thenum Vayambum (1981), Raveendran made his mark in the film field. The songs, "Thenum Vayambum…", "Ottakambi naadham…" are still highly sought-after songs for Malayalees.
A few among Raveendran’s best songs were in films like ‘Thenum Vayambum’, ‘Amaram’, ‘His Highness Abdullah’, ‘Ayal Kathaezhuthuthukayanu’, ‘Nandanam’ 'Rajashilpi', 'Bharatham', 'Aaramthampuran'. Especially the song 'pramadavanam veendum' of the movie 'His Highness Abdullah' was one of the most adored songs of that time.He shared a close relationship with famous actor Mohanlal.
Raveendran has composed many soulful melodies in the 1970s and evolved as one of the foremost music directors in the South India, composing about 800 songs in 150 films, in addition to a number of light music and devotional albums.

He was married to Shobha and has three sons. His eldest son Naveen Madhav is a playback singer in Tamil film and twin sons Rajan Madhav, a film director and Sajan Madhav, a music composer in the Telugu film industry.

Allah Rakha Rahman
born on January 6, 1966 as A. S. Dileep Kumar in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, is a composer, record producer and musician.

He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Indian film composers ever, and his career is considered a turning point in the history of Indian film music.
Many credit him with having single-handedly revolutionized the standards of film music composition in India.
He is also credited with re-energizing the popularity of Indian film music the world over.

In a career spanning over a decade, Rahman, by 2003, had sold more than one hundred million records of his film scores and soundtracks world-wide,[1] and sold over 200 million cassettes[2] making him one of the world's top 10 all-time top selling recording artists; he is one of the only Asians on the list alongside Freddie Mercury.
His first venture was Malayalam movie "YODHA" which was before "ROJA". His soundtrack, "Roja" turned out to be the world's 10th best soundtrack ever, as rated by Time Magazine, USA.
He will compose two Mongolian songs one Japanese song for his upcoming Malayalam/Japanese Multi-Lingual movie Nairsan starring Jackie Chan & Mohanlal & also traditional songs.

In 1991, Rahman began his own music recording and mixing studio, attached to backyard of his house, called the Panchathan Record Inn. He initially composed music jingles for advertisements, Indian Television channels and music scores in documentaries, among other projects. In 1992, he was approached by film director Mani Ratnam to compose the score and soundtrack for Ratnam's Tamil film Roja. The debut led Rahman to receive the Rajat Kamal award for Best Music Director at the National Film Awards, the first time ever by a first-time film composer. Rahman has since then gone on to win the award three more times (for his scores for Minsaara Kanavu (Electric Dreams, Tamil) in 1997, Lagaan (Tax, Hindi) in 2002, Kannathil Muthamittal (If Kissed on the Cheek, Tamil) in 2003), the most ever by any composer.[5]

Roja's score met with high sales and acclaim, in its original and dubbed versions, bringing about an effective transformation in film music at the time, and Rahman followed this with scores for films including, among others, Bombay, Kadhalan, Indira, Minsaara Kanavu, Muthu and Love Birds, which gained him notice. His soundtracks gained him recognition in the Tamil film industry and across the country for his versatality in classical, folk, jazz, reggae, soft rock and other styles in his pieces. Rangeela, directed by Ram Gopal Varma, marked Rahman's debut in Hindi films. Many popular and superhit scores for films including Dil Se and Taal followed. The sales of these albums prompted several film producers to take film music more seriously.

Rahman's work is also unique in the fact that his collaborations with some film directors have always resulted in successful soundtracks. In particular, he has worked with Mani Ratnam on ten films until 2006, all of which have been musical hits. Also notable is his collaboration with the director S. Shankar in the films Gentleman, Kadhalan, Indian, Jeans, Mudhalvan, Nayak, Boys and Sivaji.

In 2005, a newly developed recording studio, attached to the Inn called A.M. Studios was opened. It is considered to be the most developed, equipped and high tech studio of Asia. In 2006, Rahman launched his own music label, KM Musiq. It's first release was his soundtrack to the film Sillunu Oru Kaadhal which it released worldwide, in August 2006. His latest work includes Saathiya,Rang De Basanti, Sillunu Oru Kaadhal, Guru, Varalaru - The History of the Godfather, Sivaji: The Boss, Azhagiya Tamil Magan,Jodhaa Akbar,Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and ADA: A Way of Life . Rahman has scored the movie Provoked, co-scored Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and is working on Chamki Chameli to be released in 2008 and Hindi version of Tamil blockbuster Ghajini. He is a recipient of the Padma Shri.

Ilaiyaraaja (born June 2, 1943 as Gnanadesikan) is an Indian music composer, singer, and lyricist. He has composed over 4,000 songs and provided film scores for more than 800 Indian films in various languages in a career spanning more than 30 years.
Ilaiyaraaja was a prominent composer of film music in South Indian cinema during the late 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s.His work integrated Tamil folk lyricism and introduced broader Western musical sensibilities into the South Indian musical mainstream. He has thrice won the Indian National Film Award for best film scoring.[4]
In the 2000s, he composed a range of non-film music, including religious and devotional songs, an oratorio, and world music. He is married to Jeeva, and the couple's two sons (Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja) and daughter (Bhavatharini) are music composers and singers
