Gotterdamerung -Opportunity - men's chorus

Walter Thomson (Jubilo) has contacted us to say that he is looking to form a men's chorus for Philip Taylor's "sing-thro" weekend of Gotterdamerung on the weekend of 24/25 September with Edinburgh Players Opera Group. The chorus is likely to be involved on Saturday morning, and sunday afternoon. Walter will also arrange a "note learning" session for earlier in that week.

Yes, clothing is recommended for St Matthew Passion, as follows:-
Ladies - long sleeved black blouses or tops, UNadorned with glitter/sequins/decoration etc and full length black evening skirts or black evening trousers (NO jeans, NO leggings, NO jeggings etc)

Gentlemen- black trousers and either black long sleeved shirts or black long sleeved polo necked tops. NO ties. NO evening jackets.

ALL - NO jewelry (apart from wedding/engagement rings)

Rehearsals Dates and Venues for Haydn's Creation (concert 4.6.11)

These are the dates for April and May rehearsals for Haydn's 'Creation'. All rehearsals at 7.30pm unless indicated otherwise. All rehearsals at St. Cuthbert's will be in the main church (and there are no sleepovers!)

Rehearsal dates and times (St Matthew Passion)

To confirm:
There is no rehearsal next tuesday,March 8th.
Instead there will be a rehearsal on thursday March 10th at St Cuthberts.

The rehearsal on the day of the concert (Saturday 26 March) will start at 9 30 am., and should be concluded by 1 30 pm.

The performance begins at 6 30 pm.

Any questions or uncertainties or difficulties- please let one of us know.

Civic Reception -THIS FRIDAY - 25th February 2011, 7-8pm

Hi All

Can there ever be enough reminders? This Friday is our big event - the Civic Reception at City Chambers, Edinburgh from 7-8pm. The entrance to City Chambers is just opposite St Gile's Cathedral on the Royal Mile. There is no specific dress code but hopefully everyone will want to look smart for the occasion and dress appropriately for a relatively formal, if brief, evening function.

The Lord Provost of Edinburgh has bestowed the honour of a civic reception on Edinburgh Bach Choir to mark the Choir's centenary year (2010/2011). The reception will be held at City Chambers on Friday 25th February 2011, at 7pm for one hour. Hopefully as many choir members as possible will attend so please put this in your diary. Further information about the event will be made available nearer the time.

Reluctantly, Rehearsals 2nd December, 4th December and Concert 4th December - CANCELLED!

After much discussion and consideration of the options open to the choir and consequences of cancellation the committee has very reluctantly decided that the most responsible, practicable and sensible decision is to CANCEL the rehearsal's scheduled 2nd and 4th December and also the Concert itself scheduled for Saturday 4th December.

The next rehearsal is now Monday 13th December - unless you hear to the contrary, keep an eye out for further posts - for the St Matthew Passion.

We are obviously all going to be disappointed, but the committee feel the decision is in the best interests of the personal safety and welfare of choir, orchestra members, staff of St Cuthbert's and of course our loyal supporters.

Please could choir members advise any family and friends to whom you sold tickets to avoid those individuals turning up at St Cuthbert's for the concert!

NO REHEARSAL Tuesday 30th November, BUT the show must go on!

Due to terrible weather and deteriorating forecast the rehearsal scheduled for Tuesday 30th November is cancelled. However we are currently still planning to proceed with the Rehearsal on Thursday 2nd December, and rehearsal and concert Saturday 4th. If there is any change to the plans for Thursday a decision will be made on Wednesday evening so please keep an eye out for further posts. Take care and wrap up warm -being stuck indoors you should have plenty time to keep up the practice for the concert just 5 days to go! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

We surveyed choir members last April. A large majority promised to support a social event in the autumn,and wanted to be able to bring partners etc. We had some difficulty finding a venue that was reasonably priced and available, but are pleased with what we have found.

The plan is for an informal social evening, with buffet. Tickets (£15 per person including food and a drink) will be available from September at rehearsals. More info then and at AGM

Important-Changes of REHEARSAL VENUE FOR NEXT TERM

TO ALL CHOIR MEMBERS:
We have had to change the venue for our rehearsals for next term.

REHEARSALS WILL BE IN ST. CUTHBERTS, (not in Edinburgh Academy) from now until December

Two weeks ago (!) Edinburgh Academy advised us that the hall would not be available to us for rehearsals until the end of October,because it is being refurbished.
They offered the Robertson room as an alternative.The committee did not feel this would be satisfactory. Apart from its normal limitations, we have an AGM scheduled for 14 September; and (most important) an open rehearsal, which we hope will attract new singers, on 21st September.
After considering a number of alternatives, and checking out availability, Committee has decided to move the rehearsals for next term to St Cuthberts. Due to the inevitable uncertainty of any refurbishment programme, we have also decided it would be better to use St Cuthberts for the whole term, and then review the position.
I would have preferred to be able to consult you all about this problem and preferred options but there was not time. I do hope this will not cause undue inconvenience to anyone. Do let me know if there are particular problems - we may be able to help.
There will be further opportunity to discuss and clarify any issues at the AGM on 14 September
